- Meshuggah live at Tampere, Finland, 19th of April, 2013. I was standing near the mixingtable and noticed this guy "playing" the lights in the rhythm of the music. I just watched this guy maybe one quarter of the show. Took this video during the last song. The lights he made were amazing, fitted perfectly to the music and made half of the atmosphere.
didnt know meshuggah had another band member

I saw a video of him during Bleed, the guy literally does all the bass drum patterns with 1 or 2 fingers, ON ONE HAND
The unknown member of the band
@@sund3r don't always need to do everything the exact same way as the bass drum. can sometimes make it more interesting
@@sund3r actually he was using both of his fingers on different parts of the lights to give the effect of following the bass. Basically something along the lines of left index playing 16ths, and when the right index depresses the button, keep the lights at whatever state they’re at when the button is pressed (ie, turn off the left hand button).
Something to that effect at least
I could play the drum kick pattern with one hand, Tomas Haake only has 2 legs, i have 4 fingers...on one hand.
@@mick4316 dude it shouldn't be a big problem to play the kick parts of almost any M song with 2 fingers on one hand, at least from a physical point of view. getting them down in memory is something else lol
When you are in a Meshuggah live show and you record something else instead of Meshuggah, that something must be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. And it's impressive
definitely the best light show I've ever seen, no contest.
This guy is part of the band as far as I’m concerned
You have to appreciate it in the sense that he could as well play keyboard for the band.
His got his own channel. Does lots of things for messhuggah. Editing and some filming also i think
he's*
can you share it?
Dream job right there
I had this very same in Helsinki, Finland @ Nosturi-venue for Meshuggah´s Catch 33 -tour: I was above Mr. Hansson on balcony floor and literally followed his light console playing for all of gig. Respect maximum for dedication!
ALSO... EPIC BEARD TO THE LEFT 1:43
That's really incredible to me for some reason....just looks fun
That dude in the back slowly realizing that's the light guy is the mood of 2020.
That is ljudas, the FOH Engineer
Not all heroes wear capes.
Respect
I would love to have that job💯💯
The unsung hero of the shows
Imagine how well you have to know all their songs.. that’s just unreal, dedication right there
Insane right!
I need to find a track they put before their gig in Italy... it was composed of kiss live intros by Paul Stanley... ASTONISHING!!!
Very good jab🎆
It's nice of the crowd to cheer him at 1:58.
Its like a professional finger tapper
Ah! Evard!

Olipa kyl ihan helvetin hienot valot. Yks hienoimmista mitä on vastaan tullu :)
ain't that the truth
Anybody know if he's got a channel or not I'd like to follow
which song is this? Shazam won't let me know
Philipp Müller-Litz 'In Death Is Life/In Death Is Death'...off the 'Catch 33' album.
thanks, another song in my wishlist, I'm new to those guys 🤘
Does any one know the equipment or the name of that console?
MA Lighting GrandMA2light
The fact that he’s on the floor in close proximity of drunks with beer spilling everywhere gives me anxiety.
Is he wearing a Periphery shirt?
High as f... :))
My money's on molly
You can get really good at doing this by playing stepmania
oh thought the lights were programmable to sync with the click?
Någon Hemlig Uhh, what do you mean? I use timecode for some of the concerts I do lighting for, almost every major tour uses timecode.
@Någon Hemlig as a drummer myself, i can just relate to that all too well. In the end i think it's best to just have a band that doesn't need a click because they can stay in time sufficiently. this gives you way more groove and also you can influence your actual music much better, make the slow parts a bit more slow, the fast ones a bit more hectic, etc.
That being sad, it's very difficult to stay in time, especially with all that polyrhythm sutff going on so I understand why most bands play to a click nowadays. Though I wouldn't dare to sync some lights, tracks or anything else for that matter to the click. As you said, it WILL go to shit at some point. Even for seasoned musicians, much less the non seasoned ones haha
@@hazardeur I’m a drummer too. I play with clicks that usually go to a track. For the most part it works out. What we do is, either me (drummer) or another band member controls the track and/or click on stage. If we get off or are having technical difficulties with it, we just shut it off and keep going without it. Rarely do we get off anymore, now that we are all pretty comfortable with it. You learn to groove with it. At first it felt very rigid and unnatural, but once you stop fighting with it and just jam along with the click it becomes second nature. I think like it or not, if you want to be a professional musician these days you better be able and willing to play with a click live. Just my .02
@@184ktmdm playing to a click wouldn't be much of a problem to me since I am playing 2/3 of my time on my ekit, recoding stuff for myself, always to a click. so it should already be 2nd nature for me. However, even though you can groove with it, you will never be able to do the things i mentioned (play the slow parts a tad more slower, fast parts bit faster, rush a fill into a fast part to give it more tension etc in the same way that I will never be able to play as exact as with a click. It's all trade offs in the end, I just think that I wouldn't want to lose that "looseness" and replace it with more time security (but also more rigidness). It's personal preference of what your sound should be in the end I guess
@@hazardeur yeah I hear you, there are restrictions with clicks and tracks for sure. I'm honestly fine with minor tempo fluctuations. Within reason obviously. Some cats I play with will have a heart attack, and give me dirty looks if I so much as slow down 1bpm so for then it's easier to just use a click. Keeps them happy. I'm only human, not a metronome. I honestly try my best. However, there are some cool apps that let you change the songs on the fly while playing live. It's pretty cool. We use one called Prime. Change tempos, change keys, loop a section, remove a part of the track etc. All mid set, while on stage! You are right though, it's preference. At the end of the day if you are good with a click, and good without one, then you should be alright.
would not be easiest just having a midi track for the lights or something like that?
Only if the song is played to a click otherwise it wouldn't stay synchronized
With all these polyrhythms and complex beat structure it'll be such a disaster if either the drummer or the lighting guy messes up the timing. So it's better to do it all manually
They actually play on a click since years now. And yes, the lights are sadly programmed now. You can check the process out on Edvard Hansson's channel.
Yeah but would also be easier to use a drum machine
Polyrythms on the light switch be like
His my uncle
Oy Veh this guy's on drugs!
His girlfriend is in trouble
So he has to be a pro drummer right? How else??
You just need to turn off-on the lights with these polyrythmic beats
