I am a former Nissan Tech. You are wrong about them not having a vent. It is to the right of the center housing above the brake line. Everyone I have ever worked on had one. The problem is they would get clogged because it is a poor design. Anytime I had one on the lift I would spin the vent cap to loosen the dirt/crud in it so it could breath. You are right in the fact that this issue causes the axle seals to leak. Another issue is the front diff axle seals like to leak a bit to often and when people get it fixed, they don't replace the cir clip that holds the axle in. Then the axle likes to pop out and destroy the diff. Also as one mentioned already. Mode door actuator. The A/C fan right behind the front bumper goes bad. The fuel pump relay has a recall that no one ever gets replaced till they have an issue.
Do you know which Nissan's the fuel pump relay had a recall for? I did a vin lookup on a website to see if my truck had any recalls and it said I did not. I just wanted to make sure. I have an '06 Titan SE.
I had a 2007 Titan Texas Edition and didn't have any of these problems. Only cosmetic. Sold it after 150,000 miles for a new Titan pro4x. Love these Titans.
I bought my 2007 Nissan Titan with 6k miles on it in 2008 when stationed out in Camp Pendleton. It’s 2023 and I still have my 2007 Nissan Titan. Dropped about 15k in aftermarket and a custom paint job in 2009. I love it to death, only now is it on bonus time. It was totaled out in 2019 and I bought it back and used the insurance money to fix it. I also have a 2004 4 door SE Nissan and Titan 2016 Nissan Armada Platinum. I will always be firm supporter in Nissan and especially the Titan. I’ve had brand New GMC denalis 2012-2014..Jeeps and Fords. And plenty others. I do not own any of those vehicles now. Except a 2105 Jeep Rubicon. Maintenance is ridiculous. Titans and Nissan are the best and I can vouch for them 100%
I had a 2004 Nissan Titan crew cab 4x4, I loved that truck, I never had any issues out of it, only had 160k miles on it, I was on my way home from work and was t boned by a lady who ran a red light. Totaled my baby, I miss that truck so much
I have 05 and my wife has been in 2 accidents in it and it's been hit while parked but it's still looking good n running like new. This beast is a real truck
@@Rcerullo May I ask what you have replaced so far and at what mileage? I have an 05 with 117k mi so what shall I do other than spark plugs? Btw my ac condenser has a hole :(
My 2007 Titan has 190k. I bought it used in '08. So far I have replaced the radiator due to cracking at about 150K. I replaced all upper and lower control arms, ball joints and bearing units. Recently the valve covers, AC compressor. All brakes and rotors. Power window actuators, drive shaft support bracket and it runs like a beast still. The good news is these trucks are fairly easy to work on yourself if you have the time and patience. Love my big red.
My 2007, built in 11/2006, owned by me since 2009, has only had one issue you spoke of, the axle seal on one side. Just last year. I had the seal replaced and I installed a axle breather tube setup myself, totally agree on that. I can't believe you didn't mention exhaust manifold failure!
Thanks lost my 2019 Ram 1500 due to texting driver. I ended up buying a 05 Titan and I love it honestly more than the Ram Thanks I will have my mechanic look at every one of these potential issues.
The transmission cooler problem was fixed after 2009. Aside from that, and a few weird HVAC issues, they’re solid trucks that can be as reliable as a Toyota Tundra. Never knew anyone with a negative comment about them. Even knew someone that drove one around with a leaking thermostat housing for a long time and it never broke down on em, even when it was overheating.
You can avoid blowing out your axle seals by adding a vent breather tube. its like a $40 mod. You also left out one of the biggest issues these trucks have and that being the OEM exhaust manifolds. They are guaranteed from the factory to fail. Most people upgrade to performance headers to avoid it permanently. because it is not an issue that goes away once. its a guarantee to happen every time with OEM style manifolds
I was going to say manifold. I have had my truck for 4 years and they have cracked 3 times. All under warranty until now. So long tube headers it is Cajun b pipes
I'm the original owner and my 2007 luckily has none of these issues. It's never been to a shop except for tires. I do the general maintenance as required and I do the simple transmission drain and fill ever 20k miles. The K56 motor is great. I will definitely buy another Titan.
Just bought a used one ( unknown history) and has that 1000 code right now. Also, SLIP light comes on and off and when breaks applied it seems like ABS engage sporadically ( weird noise when it does)
@FAKETAXI SRT4 Disagree, flushes can hurt it and drain and fills give you almost 5 quarts out of the 11. You can also do it multiple times but highly suggest avoiding a true flush from the dealer.
I feel like the the blend door actuators are a top five problem. In the forums, seems like most people have it after a while. Granted, they don't render the vehicle inoperable, but replacing them is very difficult. So we're normally just stuck with annoying clicking for 3-28 minutes when we move the blend door from feet to face... Also, the brake booster... Other than all these problems, love my Armada.
The first gens have a vent nipple on the rear axle and I saw it right above your head in the video, a cost saving idea for Nissan but it gets dirty and no longer vents. I went with a fuel line hose and brought it up to the brake light housing.
Wish I could say the same thing. I had an intermittent issue where every couple of weeks or so it would crank but not start. Most of the time it would eventually start but twice it did not causing me 2 tow bills. Nothing ever fixed it...new fuel pump, new ipdm, ecu, relays....3k an still nobody could fix it. It even sat one time at a dealership for 2 weeks with them trying to recreate the problem. It happened once, but as soon as they turned the key the next time, it started. Ended up getting rid of it. Otherwise, loved the truck.
@@jeffs8330 For the crank/no start problem, I saw a Nissan bulletin where the camshaft position sensors ( 3 on the front of engine ) or the crankshaft position sensor ( 1 on the bellhousing of the tranny ) was the common problem. Hope it helps someone. BTW, they all look the same but are not. The 3 camshaft position sensors DO NOT have a white circle on the top of the sensor but the single crankshaft one does. Camshaft OEM part # 237314M50B Quantity 3 ( No white circle on the sensor ) Also has SGIB000 stamped on top Crankshaft OEM part # 23731AL61A Quantity 1 ( Has the white circle on the sensor ) Also has SGVB004 stamped on top
4:57 you can actually do a rear axle vent mod where you replace that dreaded axle vent with a Barb fitting and run some fuel line to just under the bed of the truck. Be sure you add a fuel filter at the end of the fuel line. It is important to have the outlet of the fuel line higher up from the axle to keep water out of the axle much easier. My Titan blew an axle seal recently and I had it replaced along with the axle vent (updated to the aforementioned breather tube) and It has worked wonders for me so far.
Is it still doing good? I'm looking to get a Nissan Titan 2011 and trying to do some homework on it. If there is anything else I should do to it to keep problems at pls let me know.🙏😖
Hahah right, I'm in the market for a nice 3 front seat titan SV first gen for me and my 2 daughters (old school road trips ahead). It's literally the ONLY ok pick up out there not yet completely overpriced like tacomas, 4runners, frontiers, xterras and even the newer dodges, ford and chevys now (you have to be a broke ass or mechanic to even tackle a 10+ yrs old american truck breaking appart). It's completely dumb to pay soooo much mark up on hype just because you're afraid to do a few fixes (which you will end up doing anyways if you actually use your truck no matter the brand). The thing with trucks now is that whole "survivalist" hype and the fact most of people know absoluely nothing about cars or trucks. So they all collectively make stories about eternal trucks that don't need nothing but a super high mark up price. Meanwhile, you can get a titan now for half the price of a frontier. If these "problems" where so common of unfixable like she said there is absolutely no way in hell Titan's first gen would rank in the highest millage trucks. Period. They are very good trucks, slightly bigger than a frontier, superb engine and extremely sturdy full box frame. Just right there we lost half of the totoya crowd like we're speaking chinese. Means it's one of the last real old school workhose platform and it feels sturdy, doesnt flex crazy. And honestly, even has for looks, this soon 10 yrs old truck im looking at looks better than anything out there trying too hard. It's just a beast. haha have a good one
You are absolutely correct about the vent. Did the mod to vent up to rear tail light and my years of axle seal replacements went away. That mod is detailed well on Titantalk forum.
I have all the lights on my 2004 titan... Had it since it came out.. Over 550k miles... It's on its last leg now.. But by the grace of God and Jesus it's still running.. That you lord for your grace..
I never had any of these issues in my 2013 and I put over 100k miles before I got rid of it I currently own a 2021 titan have 15k miles already and love it
Original ‘04 Titan owner. Still driving it hard as a construction work truck. 146k miles. Looks great due to annually detailing and runs excellent. No issues except for #4 and 5 on her list. Would by another but Nissan needs to design a longer bed with crew cab for us contractors.
I have a 2007 that I bought brand new. 154000 miles on it. I have not seen even one of the issues listed here. Most reliable, best running vehicle I've ever owned. A/C blend door actuator, as many others mentioned - how is that not #1? At least put it on the list in place of "the interior plastic wears out"...
2004 Titan King Cab 1st of the 1st Generation....Still going strong with 180K on it!!! Gonna change my radiator ASAP. It's the original and I don't want any coolant going into tranny. AWESOME VIDEO!!
Have a 07 titan, love it, sadly had to replace all the catalytic converters. That’s the only problem I’ve had besides the sun spots and warn paint. I bought it about a year and a half ago besides that she’s amazing. 190,000 and running good.
What did you replace so far? I have a 05 with 117k mi but think about replacing the radiator worried about the mixing of the coolant with trans fluid. Also I have a leak on the ac condenser :(
I disagree with your axle prognosis to keep replacing seals. Just vent the axle by drilling a hole in the top of either side and either use a brass barb and a piece of hose. Run the hose up the filler neck and zip tie it. My 08 has a vent, but it plugs up. In my case pressure pushed the GL out the pinion seal. I caught it, topped off the pumpkin and cleaned the vent. The "clock spring" aka spiral coupling is an easy cheap fix if you buy the aftermarket replacement. However later models with a steering angle sensor you have to buy the Nissan part which is $420. The radiator problem seems to be on early models up to 05, so if it has high mileage, it obviously hasn't failed. I have 230k miles on an 08 Titan, and 175K on my Armada. Power trains have been bombproof. All I do is maintenance per the owners manual. Climate control actuators, cheap interior plastics, evap sensors, cracked exhaust manifolds and thin paint are my only complaints. Both get lousy fuel mileage, but that is the price for the power. I tow with both vehicles and neither of them break a sweat.
How do you replace the climate control actuator? Mine has been tapping forever but I don’t know if it can be fixed without removing the dash and that seems daunting.
Ya agree. I'm in Texas and my entire hood clear coat is gone. Looks like crap but she still tows all a ask with out complaint. Reg service helps sure. I Use synthetics
On my 05 Titan Xe with 117k mi I am still on the original radiator and have no issues yet but should I change the radiator just incase the coolant mixes with the trans fluid?
You state the axle doesn't have a vent. My `06 has a factory vent on the righthand axle tube. It did get plugged and blew out the seal, but it does exist and a Ford vent plug threads right in.
I have a 2008 Titan, bought it new, and haven't had any problems yet. The only thing I had to replace is the radiator cap and the brakes/rotors. Other than that, I'm running everything that they put on it. Now, this spring, I'll be doing extensive maintenance on it since I haven't done anything to it....ever. Like shocks & struts, change both diff fluids, spark plugs etc. I'll be happy if I get 5 more years out of it. It's been an excellent truck for me. If I had a complaint, it'd be the paint peeling/wearing of of the roof in the spot where there's no insulation (middle front), top of hood and top of both front fenders. I'm going to look into a full body LineX/Rhino spray job so I dont have to worry about the paint/clearcoat.
I have always liked nissan trucks, The first main issue when the truck was released in 2004 was the front brake rotors warped due to excessive heat by design. I owned one. It took nissan 6 mos to finally make a formal recall and replace them. Good thing since not doing so on a braking issue would be a very bad safety lawsuit.
I had that too..the left side exhaust manifold cracked giving a harsh throaty sound especially on cold starts ..it would go away after the engine warms up..but I had it welded but it seem to be cracked again..so im just going to replace it. Did you replace yours or repair it?
Saving this for sure. Need to upgrade from my Tacoma but not sold on a Tundra but wanna keep reliability and tho grew up in a Chevy family, totally not convinced its the way I wanna go for a daily driver AND pulling my small 17 foot, 3500 pound clipper camper.
OEM Trans/Radiator hoses under the front end also develop cracks and leak fluids, something to look for every couple of years for the cold/warm climates! Might save someone from being broken down like I was. Thought for sure this would be top 5. 09 Titan
Happened to my 2007. I was driving and all of a sudden had a cloud of smoke behind me. I pulled off to find a hose spraying transmission fluid everywhere.
Thanks for this. Going to look at an 05 Titan a nd now I have a couple more things to look at. Love the personality of the presenter, knowledge and humor is great.
I bought a 2006 LE big tow, off the showroom floor, that truck was a beast.............sadly after 2 rear ends within 2 years and the final straw for me was trans cooler and tranny failure that did it for me to trade it in. all recommended maintence was done by the dealer, all was covered under warranty but the issues kept coming so I got rid of it.
I have an 08 Titan SE,the problem I had was the little section of flex hose that connects the transmission cooling line to the radiator sprung a bad leak and all the fluid leaked out,I immediately pulled over and had it towed, I had the line fixed it ran fine for a week then the transmission failed, had to be rebuilt $4,000.00, transmission shop told me when all the fluid leaks out that's what happens, I suggest that if you have 100k plus miles on yours "check that hose",this is a design flaw since that little section of hose can't be seen since it is hidden by that shield, still a great truck !!!! Oh I almost forgot "how about the starter under the the intake manifold"??????
I bought my 04 new. Nissan replaced the metal dif cover with an 05 aluminum on for me early on. Had axle seal leakes about 12 years in. There is ABSOLUTELY A VENT! I just went out and double checked. Not sure which year wouldn't have one as mine has a manufacture date of 12/2003
I also have an 09 titan just hit about 203000 miles. Everything is excellent on it. Just done oil changes brakes, and tires. Replaced the radiator myself. Other than that it's good.
07 Armada that I just purchased. I installed a separate trans cooler in the 1st month. No longer connected to the radiator. Working good with summer driving with trans temp normal. It was an easy job to install and cost less than $50. Cheap insurance.
My '06 had the axle shaft seal problem. There was a vent...but a very small one that had gotten plugged. Replaced it with a modification I saw on youtube and already mentioned in this comment thread...brass fitting with a hose attached to vent pressure, etc etc. Replaced the axle seal myself...which also requires a wheel bearing change as well. Back on the road with 260,000 miles...still going strong but is starting to show age elsewhere. Left front wheel bearing went out two weeks later. Simple repair on a 2wd !!
Dad gave me his 08 when I turned 16 when got a new truck loved it. Only problem had was transmission failed because it had a small leak we didn’t catch
I have about 400K on my titan and have experienced most of these. As another mentioned, the exhaust manifolds will fail that should have been mentioned Headers are the way to go. I have lost 2 radiators over the years, neither leaked into the trans. One fuel pump. Yup, the rear axle is a nightmare. I actually installed a used Nv3500 - AAM 14 bolt axle. I changed the interior to the 2015 model after the paint wore off on everything and the env controls unit went bad. I think soda was spilled on it. Went thorough a clockspring as well. The steering wheel was nasty and I installed the 2nd gen titan steering wheel. Still has the original trans and engine. Once they go. Im going with the second gen engine and 9 speed.
"I actually installed a used Nv3500 - AAM 14 bolt axle" I have an 07 titan and have had many issues with the real axle and still do today. Many times I wondered how feasible it would be to swap in the Titan XD or nv3500 axle onto my titan. Can you tell me how difficult your swap was? Was there a lot of modification needed to make the nv3500 axle fit onto your titan? I am really curious!
@@przemeksledziewski1973 I had to splice the ABS sensors. You need the NV or XD u-bolts and hangers. Had to muscle the springs a little and that was it. Everything bolted up. Even the driveshaft which I thought would require modification. Truck drives heavy now. Not like a Titan. Prob more like an XD.
@@omorin34 That is so cool! I've always liked the idea of making the Titan into a stout little HD truck. Especially when the rear axle is continuously giving me trouble. If I could please bother you a little more with some more questions, as I am new to this. "I had to splice the ABS sensors" 1. Meaning you used the existing titan connectors but fused them to the NV ABS wires, correct? No dash lights? "Had to muscle the springs a little" 2. Does this mean you used the Titan's leaf springs or the NV's leaf springs? "Everything bolted up" 3. So no need to modify the NV's spring perches, correct? "Even the driveshaft which I thought would require modification" 4. So no need to worry about the pinion angle, correct? 5. So NV hubs fit right in to the Titan's front knuckles? Then just do the same wire splicing? If so which spacers specifically did you use? 6. What year is your Titan? 4wd or 2wd? I hate to ask so many questions but I would be grateful if you told me more.
I have a 2012 titan with 140000 miles on it and haven’t had any of these issues. But the issues I have had is the notorious blend door actuator, low air pressure light want turn off on dash cluster and the drivers side rear half door has problems opening. I have to pull the handle like 10-15 times before it will open most times. Other than that it has been a solid truck. I also bought it new.
Great Video, I have none of this problems on my 2005 Titan. I will pay attention to these areas, and am sure it will make it to 20 Years with nothing but a muffler and brake pads, and tires. Thanks again. I would have made a mistake trading this in on a new one, but I cannot find a King Cab in a Higher trim level unless I want a 5.5 ft bed and that defeats the purpose of a truck, at least for myself.
The plastic tube connector on the firewall for the heater core. I snipped it and bypassed it my 2011 titan was trooper. Ran it hard trying to get a new engine on warranty, but it was bulletproof. I took really good care of it instead and sold it with almost 200k miles. I still see it around town and I miss it.
My 06 Titan had a check valve vent. And I did the tube mod . Put barbed fitting in place of and ran tube up passenger rear fender with filter on end. No more axle seal leaks
The only correction I have for the items you noted, was the rear axle vent. It does actually have one! The design is flawed though, it will rust closed very easily and create the exact symptoms you mentioned. These, and all Nissan trucks are also hard on lower ball joints - I see this often enough to mention. Due to the suspension design most DIY'ers will miss these when checking over their suspension
I bought my 2006 Titan new (currently April 2021) and there are more 2 items to add to the list. 1. The exhaust manifolds crack on the 5.6 engines. The Armada and the Infiniti also have the same problem. The fix is to install performance headers . 2. The rotors warped very easily on the 1st gens. IMO they are way too small for the truck. The fix, install performance brakes and rotors.
There is a vent tube on first gen Titan, when it starts blowing out seals it’s because it’s clogged, the oem vent tube which is just a little nub on the top right of the axle, if you have this issue google axle vent mod for these trucks, it’s a life saver and did it on mine.
I have a 2005 pro 4. Having done all my own mechanics and maintenance myself. My truck has been a pleasure to own and I have 230 + thousand miles . bought it with 78,090 . Still going, and drives better than most new 4x4s . And you can put a 4x4 sheet of plywood in rear seating area ! How many trucks do that.? Drives better than my 2018 Dodge ram quad cab 4x4 . Have yet to drive a stock crew cab 4x4 that drives as good, turns as sharp,as quiet and efficient as my Titan. I've been driving Nissan Datsun trucks since the 80s,. I still drive a 1986.5 hardbody Nissan pickup that has help feed our family for over 30 years. Thanks Nissan! Canada,, Mississippi, and america companies that have made it possible.. No,, Really thanks.
2009 Nissan Titan XE base over 300k miles none of these issues thank god. These are good trucks the only thing that sucks is the gas mileage. 15 city/18 hwy
I had a 2007 nissan titan xe I found out to tap the rear end extend a hose with small filter at end to tail light to help breath the rear end. After two seal replacements I did it and never had a problem took that baby to 170k and found out still running strong. Also vent actuators are a key problem remove whole dash to fix the issue and they suck.
Guess I was very lucky. I had a 2005 Titan LE crew cab and never had an issue. I traded it in with 165,000 miles on it, for a 2017 Titan XD because I liked my LE. Love my XD. I needed a more powerful tow vehicle for my 27 foot trailer.
Where are the exhaust manifold issues and the blend door actuators that every Titan has issues with? I've never heard of Smod issues, fuel pump issues, or clock spring issues in the Titan.
Still have my 2004, first year made. Recalled for front brake warping (?) warranty repair. One coil pack bad at 70k, $20 and 5 minutes to replace. Heat blend motor bad, $40 and 3 hour to replace. Broken wire on column shifter manual switch, solder bypass wire, no cost, 2 hour to fix. Tail pipe rusted fell off, new SS cat back $500, 3 hours. Replaced radiator with aluminum one because of horror stories, $350 and 5 hours. Front struts at 70k, $220, 4 hours. If I didn't do it myself I can see how people would be pissed and justified, But if you think they are bad, buy one of the big three especially Dudge. Love this truck, made the Big three hustle to catch up because they were obsolete. Nissan should have fixed everything and advertised more and immediately changed production to address issues. They blew it. As usual.
I can tell you more about the interior, specifically the dash components, they become a brittle as potato chips. I had to replace my instrument cluster piece (not sure exact name) but over the speedo fell apart in my hands taking it out. The other is the whole part around the radio bezel that has the two center vents, and goes up and over the dash, also fell apart in my hands trying to take it out to replace. Frankly the interior, although looked good in the beginning, of course, did not hold up much past 10 years. The paint, holy cow, worst paint ever, and I kept my truck spotless, waxed and detailed. Didn’t matter, oxidation started setting in and never could fix it. Now it just needs a whole new paint job and has surface rust starting along the rain channels. Too bad, may definitely affect whether I get another.
I have a 2010 titan and I luv my trk...I had to put a new engine in my trk after a year having it cause whoever had my trk first never took care of it and they put that cheap oil the trk...after putting my engine in with only 7700 miles on the engine now I really luv my trk will never get rid of it...GO NISSAN TITANS
First Titan 2003 put 384000 miles on it (hard miles) never ANY issue, Second Titan bought used also a 2003 and put 290000 miles on it and never ANY issue. On my 3rd Titan a 2004 also used and at 248000 miles and except of a stater no issues. Always TITAN for me.
On my 08 I had both my front and rear diff go out on me back to back years, as well as my radiator along with the front differential. But at this point it’s better to bite the bullet and get it fixed than by a new one.
I’ve got an 04 I bought brand new that’s semi retired now with just under 100k on it. No mechanical issues (a huge plus) but it has the typical Nissan paint fade that started years ago and the poor quality interior materials are cracking badly. My 04 GMC pickup is cosmetically superior to the Nissan Titan by a long shot!
Still better than 5.4 Ford, 5.3 GM, AND Anything Ram puts out especially with FIAT at the helm. Only good v8 half ton truck engines are 5.7/4.7/4.6 toyota, 5.6 nissan, 4.6/5.0 Ford, 5.7/6.0 GM, 4.7 Dodge.
I bought my 2008 Nissan Titan February of 2009 with 24k miles on it. I now have 136k miles on it and it's been the best vehicle I've ever owned. A couple of the items you mentioned have happened but I think you missed a big one. Here is my list from personal experience. 1. Biggest repair so far - Blend actuator doors which cost $1700 as the entire dash had to be taken out and several days at the dealer because no mechanic wanted to touch it. It also had to take a trip back when one of those actuators failed after a couple of months. REPLACE THEM ALL IF YOU REPLACE EVEN ONE! They can't deny warranty when all were replaced. 2. The trim inside is GARBAGE so you were spot on there. My entire top part has been ripped out after it cracked so I can literally touch the metal roof. 3. Clockspring wiring but you forgot to mention the wiring to the gear change (if you have it on the steering wheel) as the wiring after putting in park to drive to reverse to drive, etc, etc, eventually wears out the wiring and you can't manually shift which is nice if towing. So if you replace the clock spring which isn't too hard, make sure you check that wiring! 4. I had an issue with the exhaust manifold gasket and to avoid the engine light coming on would use higher grade fuel to avoid it, eventually needed a new starter so replaced gasket while doing that and all good now but that egg smell was brutal! 5. Transmission cooler hose has been replaced twice so keep an eye on that. For reference I do put Mobil 1 full synthetic oil in my truck and change every 5k miles or once a year. Now that I live in the country it's every 5k miles. I love this truck and hoping for another 4 years or so as I really want to get it to 200k miles. Then I want a 2020-2021 Tundra with NO TURBOS! With trim issues and other plastic part failures like actuator doors I'm ready for a different kind of truck and I love the Tundras before they went away from the V8. Have a great day.
Glad I saw this! Was going to look at one and the dealer actually told me that it was having some minor shifting problems. Now I know it’s prob from the coolant leak. I’ll stay away.
For the crank/no start problem, I saw a Nissan bulletin where the camshaft position sensors ( 3 on the front of engine ) or the crankshaft position sensor ( 1 on the bellhousing of the tranny ) was the common problem.
Looking at a 2007 nissan titan le with 140k miles , one owner. Florida driven, great condition new tires . Guy wants $8,300. How do you feel about the price ?
The other major failure which occurs in these trucks is the air mixing valve motors under the dashboard. Many will call it the "endless clicking" under/behind the dashboard and down by the driver's right foot. You can find 'countless' how to videos on line which many a person has tried to show the "easy" way to fix the valves - there is no easy way. The dash has to come out. This "failure" of the truck should absolutely be noted and recognized.
Also the clicking starter (which is UNDER the intake…) which could be the starter switch, or the battery, or the wires, or the ECU. AND the windows that roll down by themselves
I have an 04 with 210k miles and I have not had any of these issues yet except of course the interior paint fading on the buttons and mine didn’t come with the toolbox and I always keep it washed so the rust isn’t bad
What did you replace so far? I have a 05 with 117k mi but think about replacing the radiator worried about the mixing of the coolant with trans fluid. Also I have a leak on the ac condenser :(
08 Titan with 358,000 miles / none of these issues. Replaced the exhaust manifolds 3 times, very few issues other than wear and tear. Replaced the OEM alternator at 350,000.
She's absolutely right on point I had to replace the whole transmission and the differential because of that stupid ass radiator leak. She also failed to mention that you need to put in external cooler on the radiator so that problem never happens again. Also the valve seals leak after a hundred thousand miles. Other than that yes build quality on the interior isn't great and it rattles but that's a lot of cars in the early 2000s
My 2015 titan starting to slip after an accident a year ago. Thinking body shop didnt put back together right and ever since things are starting to happen at 98k; what did your transmission cost if you don’t mind me asking?
There is a vent. You nearly pointed to in on the passenger side top of axle tube. No tube but there is a vent on them. I strongly recommend removing the sorta little PCV type vent. Install a threaded hose barb and run a tube to keep the metal cap from clogging.
Still got my 04 none of these problems except cosmetics and axle seals but I have a vent.My list; lemon law on brakes n rotors, ac/heat blender doors shot n clicking, evap solenoid constantly clogged, exhaust manifold cracked and the worst 1 yet they whole rear frame rotted out n fixed still going strong
Don't know about older models I have a 2015 titan but it does have a axle vent valve not a tube... so it does have somewhat of a vent but they do get clogged...
I’ve learned that another issue is over time there are some random starting issues . Still not 💯 on what the cause is after reading all the people with this issue but apparently is a common issue
Currently have a '93 Toyota pick up that might be dead :( Looking into a 1st gen Tundra or a 1st gen Titan both in 4wd as my next pick up truck. Still not sure what to do. Very informative, thanks for posting!
The only problem I've heard about with my 2017 S.L. 5 ltr. Cummins Turbo 4×4 diesel with tow package is the 6 speed Isen transmission. 40k and no problems. Knock on wood. Very happy with my 53k investment. Average m.p.g. is over 10 for my 7.2k Lance 2375.
Something that was not mentioned is when the lean condition makes your intake manifolds crack and when this goes on for long enough your catalytic converters fail and the motor sucks up the catalytic converter pieces and grenades your motor. I don't see this happen too much, but it definitely happens. Cheers!
At 157,000 miles, I replaced the electronic fuel body for $300 in my 2004 Nissan Armada. It was stalling on the highway. Rule this out before replacing the catalytic converters.

Lies my 05 titan has a vent tube on the rear end from the factory
Totaled my baby, I miss that truck so much
Get you another one life is too short
I have 05 and my wife has been in 2 accidents in it and it's been hit while parked but it's still looking good n running like new. This beast is a real truck
The date is 6/15/2021 and my 2004 Nissan Titan with original engine and trans has 423k ans still kicking ass!! I love this truck
@@Rcerullo May I ask what you have replaced so far and at what mileage?
I have an 05 with 117k mi so what shall I do other than spark plugs? Btw my ac condenser has a hole :(
Great trucks zero mechanic problems
You missed one of the biggest ones, AC/heat blend door.
+Spartan Patriot Thanks for the feedback!
That ones a given!
Click' click'click'click'click"😡
Omg thats sooo true I had one replaced and another go bad . Damn cheap plastic piece
Yep
I have a 2007 Titan 153,256 miles on it, till now zero issues engine feels strong 💪
I have a 2015 Titan and it has been the most durable and comfortable trucks I've owned
Bug, I’m Looking at a used 2015 now, any updates ?
Very good post. This issue is a major repair for a customer.
This should have been on the list! For sure some of her complaints are BS
I was going to say manifold. I have had my truck for 4 years and they have cracked 3 times. All under warranty until now. So long tube headers it is Cajun b pipes
I replaced my manifolds recently and may I just say, it was a serious design error by Nissan with these manifolds.
Sounds like a pass! Not like they were in the late 80s 90s. No wonder Toyota Trucks are so over priced.
I'm the original owner and my 2007 luckily has none of these issues. It's never been to a shop except for tires. I do the general maintenance as required and I do the simple transmission drain and fill ever 20k miles. The K56 motor is great. I will definitely buy another Titan.
+Motor Down Thanks for the feedback!
how many km do u have on urs
My clicking for the air vent blend doors goes max for like 1-2 mins and it sounds like plastic.
yes mine does this too lol
The first gens have a vent nipple on the rear axle and I saw it right above your head in the video, a cost saving idea for Nissan but it gets dirty and no longer vents. I went with a fuel line hose and brought it up to the brake light housing.
I had a 2008 Titan with almost 200k on it. Only replace the starter, was a good truck. Drove it pretty hard on and off-road, never left me stranded.
Camshaft OEM part # 237314M50B Quantity 3 ( No white circle on the sensor ) Also has SGIB000 stamped on top
Crankshaft OEM part # 23731AL61A Quantity 1 ( Has the white circle on the sensor ) Also has SGVB004 stamped on top
My 2008 have cracked exhaust manifolds. 3k plus to have them replace at the dealer.
+Alex Barnes Thanks for the feedback!
Is it still doing good?
I'm looking to get a Nissan Titan 2011 and trying to do some homework on it. If there is anything else I should do to it to keep problems at pls let me know.🙏😖
@@1AAuto why didn't you point to the breather on top of the axle? It's there.
Thanks for this video. Armada, QX56, and Titans are so reliable. But many people sleep on them
Hahah right, I'm in the market for a nice 3 front seat titan SV first gen for me and my 2 daughters (old school road trips ahead).
All titans have a rear diff vent, right above your head when you said they don't. The issue is they get clogged with dirt and debris
U need to do a mod.to vent the tube up away from axle. its very easy
I never had any of these issues in my 2013 and I put over 100k miles before I got rid of it I currently own a 2021 titan have 15k miles already and love it
Are the new current Titans 2017-21 made by Nissan? 5.6 Nissan engine is bulletproof. I own a 2015 Titan and I'm never selling her.
Original ‘04 Titan owner. Still driving it hard as a construction work truck. 146k miles. Looks great due to annually detailing and runs excellent. No issues except for #4 and 5 on her list. Would by another but Nissan needs to design a longer bed with crew cab for us contractors.
And all I do is change the fluids. Never had a “tune up”.
I have an o8 long bed 8ft. Hard to find now 79000 love it had to have it strong rig!
I'm tempted to buy a 2005 Nissan Titan with 160k Miles for 6k. I don't know much about trucks. Is it a good deal?
@@Tonatiuh27 same. Im tempted on buying one for 5k.
My 04 has 463k and is still rockin!! I love her
I have a 2007 that I bought brand new.
+Donnie Alexander Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Great idea..
How do you replace the climate control actuator? Mine has been tapping forever but I don’t know if it can be fixed without removing the dash and that seems daunting.
@@colbycarroll7746 really easy. right under the dash near the foot area. should be a blend door actuator video here
2004 Extra cab, 2nd owner, 160K, no issues except cab leak, drivers side. Great truck and powerplant....
+Orion3 Thanks for the feedback!
One of the best videos I have seen of this kind, and she was clear, precise and very layman elementary. Excellent 👌👍👏
I love my Titian thank you for this now I know what to look for
You missed the one issue every titan on the planet will eventually get. Cracked exhaust manifolds.
yup, i have an 08 and im looking to get mine replaced
Every vehicle on earth will "eventually" get anything...state your source for this info?
I had that too..the left side exhaust manifold cracked giving a harsh throaty sound especially on cold starts ..it would go away after the engine warms up..but I had it welded but it seem to be cracked again..so im just going to replace it. Did you replace yours or repair it?
I had that problem on my 04 Pathfinder Armada (about 25k). I have a 15 Titan(about 70k) with no issue though.
@@timsgta every Titan owner ever..
Thought for sure this would be top 5. 09 Titan
This happend to me and luckily i caught it on time. Less than $10 replaced that hose from the auto parts store
Happened to my 2007. I was driving and all of a sudden had a cloud of smoke behind me. I pulled off to find a hose spraying transmission fluid everywhere.
Same here. All the transmission cooler lines have failed once at one time or other. Guess it's just age and wear and tear.
Not sure which year wouldn't have one as mine has a manufacture date of 12/2003
I can honestly say the 09 I had didn't have any of these issues
Good to hear because I own an ‘09 with 65300 miles on it. great truck!
"I actually installed a used Nv3500 - AAM 14 bolt axle"
I have an 07 titan and have had many issues with the real axle and still do today.
Almost forgot. You will need new rims and spacers for the front.
@@omorin34
That is so cool! I've always liked the idea of making the Titan into a stout little HD truck. Especially when the rear axle is continuously giving me trouble.
If I could please bother you a little more with some more questions, as I am new to this.
"I had to splice the ABS sensors"
1. Meaning you used the existing titan connectors but fused them to the NV ABS wires, correct? No dash lights?
"Had to muscle the springs a little"
2. Does this mean you used the Titan's leaf springs or the NV's leaf springs?
"Everything bolted up"
3. So no need to modify the NV's spring perches, correct?
"Even the driveshaft which I thought would require modification"
I have a 2007 Nissan titan with over 192000 miles . never had any major issues except for the regular maintenance.. Still runs like new..
My 07 is doing great!!
Never heard of one titan mixing coolant into transmission
Only heard of the frontiers doing that
My 06 Titan had a check valve vent. And I did the tube mod . Put barbed fitting in place of and ran tube up passenger rear fender with filter on end. No more axle seal leaks
Ive got a first generation Titan Ive had it for 8 years. Great trucks !!!
+Stuygym Thanks for the feedback!
Manifolds should have been #1
There is a vent tube on first gen Titan, when it starts blowing out seals it’s because it’s clogged, the oem vent tube which is just a little nub on the top right of the axle, if you have this issue google axle vent mod for these trucks, it’s a life saver and did it on mine.
Mine spent the night submerged in a water hole about 3-4ft deep. Changed all fluids a few times and still going fine 4 years later
It does. Mine has that code as I type. Also, the abs seems to engage when breaks applied( weird noise) and SLIP light comes and goes.
I bought my 2005 titan new, now I have 250,000 miles on it the biggest thing that went wrong so far is the fuel pump quit at 165,000.
As usual.
very cool informative video. I've always liked these Titan trucks....something different.
Great in depth video. Keeping it for later when I look at a titan
Seems you and I have the same truck!😄
One can always put an external transmission cooler to avoid coolant leaking into the transmission.
Nissan 4.0 is also a great engine.
The ol' amc/jeep inline 4.0 is hard to beat too...
4.7 are no good lol check out wizard he will explaine them motors are junk im fine with 4.6 ford and 5.0 them are best
Just bought a 2011 Titan SV, very low mileage. I'll definitely keep an eye on these things moving forward. Great video!
+TexasBTC Thanks for the feedback!
WOW!!!! THANKS, VERY MUCH, FOR ALL OF THIS INCREDIBLY VITAL INFO!!! I WISH I HAD SEEN THIS SOONER!!!..
I feel proud when a woman steps up to a job that most of us guys do. Its pretty cool.

Hope it helps someone. BTW, they all look the same but are not. The 3 camshaft position sensors DO NOT have a white circle on the top of the sensor but the single crankshaft one does.
Looking at a 2007 nissan titan le with 140k miles , one owner. Florida driven, great condition new tires . Guy wants $8,300. How do you feel about the price ?
I got a 06 Titan with about 115k for 10k. Similar trucks can be double that I like mine.

+Christopher Davala Thanks for the feedback!
My 2015 Titan started this clicking a month ago when I crank or turn off engine. Someone told me it was heater inlet control valve gears?
Absolutely loved your video!!! Great call outs!!!
Also the clicking starter (which is UNDER the intake…) which could be the starter switch, or the battery, or the wires, or the ECU. AND the windows that roll down by themselves
+Paul Hoffmann Thanks for the feedback!
Also I have a leak on the ac condenser :(
Gary LEE I’ve replaced the starter, wheel bearings, transmission cooler line, throttle body and the exhaust system but I went aftermarket that’s why
08 Titan with 358,000 miles / none of these issues. Replaced the exhaust manifolds 3 times, very few issues other than wear and tear. Replaced the OEM alternator at 350,000.
Did you replace the radiator? If so at what date/mileage ?

I have an 07' and there is a vent on the axle, You just need to do what Real Clean Cobalt said about the add on. No more axle seal leaks.
Great top 5. Very informative 👍
Very helpful, and all things considered a very manageable set of quirks.
My 2007 has an axle vent. Also I'm at 140,000 miles with none of these issues.
Cheers!
Lady's make the best tech/ diagnostic experts..
At 157,000 miles, I replaced the electronic fuel body for $300 in my 2004 Nissan Armada. It was stalling on the highway. Rule this out before replacing the catalytic converters.
