i just ordered the deepmind 6 instead of the roland ju06 because of this beautifull pad you just created! very reminiscent of the yamaha cs80 blade runner pad!
This is so great to find someone who builds things from the ground up rather than just tossing out random stuff. Looking forward to viewing the rest in this series. Behringer should pay you for this ... it seems like any basic-level synth maker would have an incredible advantage by presenting a set of tutorials.

That's great! A lot of this "let's build" is more about the fine tuning and playability of the patch than the sound. I think I that a lot of the stuff I demonstrate in this one can really help to polish a patch. Have fun going back and reconnecting with your patches!

I’ve used VST’s for years... but these just sound so HUGE!!!

Jokke Mursula - I do... it sounds really good, and has a good amount of functionality packed into it. I need to spend more time exploring it before I’d comment strongly... but, so far- I’m impressed and think it has a unique character, with a good amount of depth.

Thanks! The Deepmind has been sold now - the opsix replaced it for the types of stuff I was using it for (which was not conventional sounds) - I made plenty of videos about it before I let it go though!

Just a thing i learned building the pad...its easier to hear whats going on with the attack of the vca envelope if you progressively increase the amount of its release instead of starting from top to bottom.

+Slenterende Beer I take a perverse pleasure in knowing that while helping people understand these instruments a little better, I'm also probably responsible for feeding a load of GAS! Have I mentioned that the arpeggiator and sequencer on this thing are pretty amazing?.. Not that you'd be interested in how well it'd integrate into a live jamming rig or anything...

+Slenterende Beer regarding 6 vs. 12 - money primarily, followed closely by space and not being a good enough keys player to justify the bigger keyboard. Besides... You can poly-chain them... So if I need more polyphony, there's always the desktop version...
+Slenterende Beer not the next video (which is already recorded), but soon I will. (actually I do at least use the arpeggiator in the next video).
The sequencer and arp are actually very deep so they might even get separate videos. Some of the stuff you can do with the arpeggiator patterns is... Bonkers. But I need to dig into it some more myself before I'll feel confident about presenting it.
This Pad 5:45 is sounding a lot like Vangelis "Charoites of Fire"

Sorry to shout, but PLEASE DO MORE VIDEOS ON THIS SYNTH!!! I desperately love it's ability to do these pad sounds I crave, but I am interested to see if it can do some more "moogish" mono warm lead lines with portomento and cutoff fiddling. If so, it is definitely my next purchase! Awesome video!

Played with it tonight for the first time and boy howdy! Every bit as good as any Vintage Poly you care to mention. An absolute tour de force from Behringer and it didn't cost me $12k 👌
I just bought Deepmind 6 and it is my first synth poly keyboard. Thanks for the tutorial videos. Definitely overwhelmed with the features. Think i will take months to get to used to it. Can you create guide on how to create sound like Tame Impala and Pink Floyd (Shine on you crazy diamond)?
For the lead sound: Use a sawtooth wave, try mixing in the square a little, see how it works. Put the filter resonance up about 1/3. Put the filter cutoff about 1/3 down from top (you can play with that while you play). Most important part of that lead is setting it to mono mode (only 1 note) and put on some glide/portamento. The envelope, back off the attack about 5-10 percent from fast. Release, about 20 percent from fast. Play with all these settings to get closer to your ideal.
Epic sounding patch , my DM6 is coming in a few days and i cant wait to follow along with this video to create something similar also, i would love to see some tangerine dream type lead sounds to go with this lovely pad patch , mabey a few different examples like lead guitarish , trumpetish , sexysax. @@OscillatorSink I have my DM6 now :) time to follow along now , i should let you know that the top down view of the synth and zoom are great but start with all sliders down , now time to PROG+COMPARE and get rid of all the patches i don't like , probably about 80% and modify the rest that i like

I do think to get the Behringer DM but thinking between 6 or 12
If this would be my only one synth I would go with 12 - but I’m thinking to use it as for gigs (6 would be more compact) I also have the Prophet REV2 and Moog SUB 37.
Wanted to ask your opinion, do you think DM12 would be so much better ? I’m also thinking that the Roland Juno has also 6 voices.

If you have a keyboard controller you like, then I'd highly recommend getting the 12D - it'll give you a lot more flexibility with unison patches.

Loved this video as a helpful "how to" because you showed what some of the setting do (This is my first and only synth so far) but the pad you created sounded damn near the same from beginning to end. like 4% difference lol.
The basic tonality was perhaps, but there's a huge difference between how it feels to play, how it responds across the keyboard. A lot of this tutorial was about refining the 'playability' of the patch.

Great tutorial, thinking of getting this synth mainly for pads, but have seen some say the DP12 would be better because of the extra voices for pads, what do you think?
If you have the cash and the space, I'd go for more voices. If you have a controller you like then the 12d is the best deal.

Both great choices - the XD's hybrid approach makes it very flexible. I'd also look at the Opsix - I've been enjoying that a lot!
A Decent tutorial cheers. I think that the Deepmind 6 though in some ways is going to have an effect on many people like the DSI Mopho did. In respect to the thought of `Yeah I have a DeepMind 6 now and it` great but wish I`d spent a little more and got the Deepmind 12 or Deepmind 12D ( I have the 12D ) in the same respect many DSI Mopho box owners really wished that they had got a DSI Tetra instead ( that happened to me and eventually I got a Tetra too )
I'm happy with my 6 for the moment... But if I ever get the hankering a 12D in poly-chain mode to make a great big DeepMind18 would be nice!
@@OscillatorSink The 12 is amazing. Just the complete control of the voices make the 12 worth it. You can stack the voices in two or three voices per key press... and then when you use the detune the sound is so, so fat. I've had a bunch of small analog synths, minilogue, monologue, bass station II, as well as some digital polys like kingkorg... but this deepmind 12 is hands down my favorite. so easy to program but so complex at the same time. but it can get nasty sounding really quick too, especially cranking the reso too far. but super impressed with behringer. the neutron is so, so fun to play with also. VCOs and semi-modular.

I have a young child so speakers aren't really an option, but I tend to listen on Audiotechnica M50x headphones and my audio interface is an Arturia Audiofuse Studio.
Very informative OS. Is the DeepMind capable of recreating the famous Vox Humana sound from the Polymoog?
I should think you can get pretty close - and you can add a phaser in the effects engine to get fully Numan-y!
Oscillator Sink yes, from what I understand it’s 1 sawtooth oscillator and a PW oscillator being modulated by 2 lfo,s / sine waves using a slow and faster rate.

Just curious, can the DM6 be used to create say, the lead sound in Valerie (by Steve Winwood)? I'm a huge Winwood fan!
I think he's using a combination of Prophet and Multimoog in that era so the basic tonality around the oscillators and the filter is going to be quite different, no matter which way you cut it. That being said, the DM is pretty flexible so it could give it a stab and likely come out similar conceptually, if not exactly authentic.
@@OscillatorSink, sounds good to me! And yeah, I do know that Winwood utilized the Prophet, and many of his solos were done with the Multimoog (man, if I had the money, I'd buy one of them things! Then again, maybe more worthwhile to invest in the Deep Mind...)

Hello ! How do you get the deepmind 6 to play One voice per note ? I just bought mine and i'm struggling playing chords because it allows me only to play three notes then all the voices are taken ..
When i want to record midi with my mpc1000 it's quite a problem so if you have any answer that would really help !

Look in the "Poly" menu for the unison/voicing settings. Poly-2 means polyphonic, with 2 stacked voices. You want normal Poly. This setting is set per patch.
@@OscillatorSink I tried to do that But i don't see Poly 2 , i only see Poly when i open up the voice parameters and by default when i press a note it goes by 2 voices

So in the Poly Menu the "Polyphony" setting is just "Poly"? But two voices are lighting up every time you play? Does changing that setting change this? Is is the same on every patch?

Yes that's the problem .. it's the same in every patch i tried so far , i set it to poly and yet 2 voices light up the leds / Unison2 = 4 voices .. Could it be because of the firmware ? shall i update it to the latest version or is it something else you think ?
I'd update the firmware and run calibration.
Oh, two other thoughts: is chord mode enabled?
Do you have any midi or USB cables plugged in - if so, remove those. You could have a midi loop-back issue (eg. your DAW could be echoing the key you're playing back into the unit and double triggering the note).
Seriously considering getting one of these, but have heard some negative stories about reliability. Any experiences here?
No issues at all with mine. From what I can see from the stories - they either arrive already dodgy or they're rock solid. Seems to be more about quality control than build quality if you know what I mean.
If they made a Deepmind 12 in this form factor id buy one today

From the manual:
7.4 WRITE (Write Menu)
To write a program to memory press the WRITE switch to open the WRITE
PROGRAM menu.
The WRITE PROGRAM menu will then appear:
In this menu you can use the -NO/+YES switches to navigate through the
sections. The selected section will be highlighted by an inverted character (white
on black).
The fi rst section is the program location the current program will be saved.
You can use the UP/DOWN switches, the rotary knob, or the fader to select the
required BANK (A-H) and PROGRAM NUMBER (1-128).
The second section is the CATEGORY to select any of the available categories.
Again you can use the UP/DOWN switches, the rotary knob, or the fader to select
the required CATEGORY.
The third section is REPLACED BY which allows you to name the program to be
written. You can use the -NO/+YES switches to step through each character of the
name and use the UP/DOWN switches, the rotary knob, or the faders to change
the character.
There are also two short-cuts for selecting characters indicated by text above the
FX and GLOBAL switches:
a-A-0 - Pressing the FX switch will cycle between lower-case, upper-case and
numbers.
DEL - Pressing the GLOBAL switch will delete the currently selected character.
Note: These short-cuts only appear when you are editing the name of the
REPLACED BY program.
(so to summarise, press "write", select the patch you want to overwrite, press "write" again).
(there is no "favourites" feature).

Noted! I do still enjoy it but I have to admit that with my time a bit more limited right now, I tend to gravitate towards jamming on the Digitone at the moment. Hope those videos are still interesting to you!
I like the deepmind 6 because his size. But some patchs are allowed only 3 voices. Should I go for a DM12?
The 12d is probably the best deal if you have a keyboard already.
How do you save patch, and where do you go to find all your patches?
On the front panel there is a button called "Write". Use that to name your patch and to choose which bank and program you want to store it in.
This process is detailed in sections 4.8 to 4.9 on page 13 of the manual.

Damn. Sounds better than any of the presets. I only know cuz I had to have gone through at least 300 of them and they all sound like s*** just about. the only reason I've kept my deepmind 12 is because every patch I make gets better and better every time.
I think the Deepmind is a wonderful instrument to design sounds on. There are some gems in the presets but maybe the err a little on the side of showing off the effects at times maybe?
@@OscillatorSink yeah there are some good ones. my favorites are tines EP and warm strings. But making the patches is definitely where this thing shines. I'm trying to get 10 patches together to share. It'd be awesome if you tried them out

i noticed the deepmind 6 has transparent wheels... while the dm12 has black /transparent wheels :( this looks way better

how to do you save or write a patch you've created?
You press the button labeled "WRITE" - it's right underneath the screen. Then use the scroll wheel to select the bank/program slot you want to save it to (by default it'll be the program you're currently on) then press "WRITE" a second time to confirm.
Full details of this can be found in section 4.8 of the manual ("Writing Programs"), the process is also explained on screen when you press the "WRITE" button.

I'm not sure a tutorial would add much to how it's described in the manual. To be clear: if you're overwriting the patch you were editing, it's literally just "press the 'WRITE' button twice". Probably a bit short for a tutorial to be fair.
Oscillator Sink yeah, I looked at the manual and it’s kind of confusing to be honest. I feel the menu diving here is the only thing I hate about it.

Yes.
Are There organ sounds?
You can create some fairly convincing organ sounds, but it wouldn't be my first choice if that was mainly what you were after.

If you want something cheap and little but fun the Reface YC is ace. The Korg SV-1 is still rightly very popular and has a wide range of organ and electric piano sounds, there's also the Roland VR-09-B, but I've never played one myself.
But bear in mind I'm not an organ player or even a keyboardist, so take those recommendations with a pinch of salt.

Was ok. Perhaps a bit of cut between 100-200 hz wouldn't hurt. But most likely you are just a bit close to the mic and are getting some proximity effect, if its a cardioid. If so back away from the mic and turn up the interface gain a bit. ;-)
