i have never been happier with a synth than with my DM12. For the money, it's simply the best synth on the planet, and YES, it can make sounds on par with my jx-3p my jx-8p, my JP-6 and JP-8/MKS-80 (yep all of em), as well as my Juno -60 and -106. It is incredible.
Let me put it this way - I'm running out of excuses not to get a Deepmind. This video was excellent, wish it was longer! (..and thanks for including Safety Dance!)
I own many vintage synths, like Prophet 5, Prophet 600, Roland JD800 et al. Recently I got a Deepmind 12 and have to say that it is a great synth which can absolutely compete. Probably has the worst presets on earth though 😅! @behringer you should update those. The Sequencer and Arpeggiator are super versatile and the usability gets a 10 out of 10. This makes a really nice, easy to understand beginners polysynth, especially given the unbeatable price point.
Yes, the factory presets are/were awful, but with the two banks of 3rd party sounds l loaded I thought I had a new synth. Prophet, Juno, Jupiter buttery-rich simulations and swirling ever-changing pads are terrific, especially with edited effects and pan settings.
@@deantiquisetnovis It's a few years now, but the 2 banks are called Analog Audio 1 - CLASSIC ANALOG and DEEP IMPRESSIONS. I think I still saw them on U-Tube. Hope you find them.

What a fun video to watch for an 80s nerd like me 👍 The DM-12 is the cheapest polysynth I own, but somehow one of the best sounding ones. The DeepMind clearly shows that many of the newer analog re-issues of the big brands are excessively overpriced, with some even sounding very bland in comparison to the DeepMind. To anyone on a budget looking for a bread and butter analog or virtual analog polysynth, I’d always recommend the DM12. Thanks for this amazing video, the inspiration embedded within the video and the love given to these 80s music gems. Keep up the great work! @@lewischannel84 In the studio I believe that the Juno 106 , JX3p a Yamaha DX7 and Kurzweil Piano were used and I think that a JP8 was certainly used in the live rig but unsure about the studio set up as some debate over the OBX-A being the chorus sound and the JP8 . I've linked a video below that discusses it in detail : ua-cam.com/video/-87ySfjZjGs/v-deo.html
I played Southern California clubs 5 nights a week in the 80’s with a Jupiter 8 and DX7 as my kit. I sold them both in 1990. I now have both the DM12 and DM12D, and there is no way they even come close to re-producing the brass/string sounds of my Jupiter 8, I leave that for either Kontakt Jupiter 8 samples .. or my Jupiter 80. The DM12’s are cool though for what they do .. kinda their own unique things that sound very digital to my ears.
Wish you still had the Jupiter for a blind comparison. I gigged with a Juno 106 back in the day and to my ears the DM12 sounds close enough I'd don't think I'd be able to tell the difference in a blind test. But I'll never know now :(
I own the Deepmind 12 since it came out a few years ago and, although it's a great sounding analog synth, I just wish it had 2 oscillators per voice (instead of having to use Unison-2 mode reducing the polyphony to only 6 voices), and also a five-octave keyboard instead of just four. That's why I'm eagerly awaiting the upcoming Behringer UB-Xa that has been promised over 4 years ago and is ready for mass production as soon as the chips shortage subsides.
Unison 2 the polyphony is 6 voices with 2 OSCs per voice, so you can play on the keyboard 6 finghers (3 upper and 2 lower, or 4 upper and 2 lower) for brass, lead, mallet, etc. You can play it without problem, on Jupiter 8, with Unison mode the polyphony it reduced more, with DeepMind you can control in different way instead.
@@randomaccess8540 No, it does not. What they call OSC 2 is actually a Sub Oscillator of OSC1 of which you can sort of change the waveform somewhat and control the pitch. NOT a full-fledge oscillator like OSC1 (which only offers only 2 waveforms but combinable). You cannot get two slightly detuned oscillators with both a sawtooth waveform like on a proper 2 oscillator analog synth. Unless you use UNISON-2 mode, in which case you drop the polyphony down to 6 voices (on the DeepMind 12 and 3 voices on the DeepMind 6).
@@AlainHubert OSC 1 is the real oscillator of course, the second is a wavefrom circuite generate a squ wavefrom (I think it's not a sub osc) it's can be modulate with tone mode and offering square sound Roland style).
