  • I've been looking forward to this one! Let's see whether we can turn the DeepMind into a Drum Machine in a single patch!
    Jump to 25:06 to hear the finished patch if you're impatient!
    And this is a similar trick on the Korg Monologue: • Korg Monologue - Let's...

    Nice creative patch. It's a similar workflow to using the moog dfam or the Berhinger edge. Working the deepmind mod matrix feels very much like using a modular synth.

    Your video is fantastic. You're exploring possibilities of the instrument that it wasn't necessarily designed for which can get pretty involved, but you're explaining it so well and so clearly that a total synth and Deepmind beginner like me fully comprehends every move you make, which makes your video incredibly helpful and valuable. Thank you so much for this

  • @christopherd8127
    @christopherd8127 3 роки тому +1

    My friend thank you for thios video! Even though I'm very late, I have to ask for a favor. I'm having trouble finding any help here on this but I have a deepmind 6 as well as the neutron and I am looking how I can create a sequenced rhythm coming from each. (A ton of videos show its ability to do this, however noone explains well enough on how to create this stuff. I just want to start jamming with my synths here and having trouble being able to do it without going into a DAW.

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 роки тому +1

      Between the two devices you could just connect a midi cable (probably out from Deepmind into Neutron makes most sense), but honestly I think in your setup as is you're missing a conventional sequencer to tie everything together. Something like a Keystep Pro (or Beatstep Pro, but the sequencing is monophonic there) to provide clock and sequence your Neutron would maybe work?

    • @christopherd8127
      @christopherd8127 3 роки тому

      @@OscillatorSink DM6 has a ctrl sequencer but I have to say it's a tad confusing for someone new to synths in general. I was already looking into the Keystep but you just convinced me. Thank you!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 роки тому +1

      The control sequencer isn't reeeealy a conventional melodic sequencer, although you can use it that way, it's not really its main purpose - also you can't really easily send it to an external device.

    • @christopherd8127
      @christopherd8127 3 роки тому

      @@OscillatorSink Gotcha, I was thinking of returning the DM6 and getting the DM12D with a keystep 37 controlling it. Would this work fine and would you approve of this?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 роки тому +1

      @@christopherd8127 I think the Deepmind 12d is good value. I'd look at the Keystep Pro maybe though as it would let you sequence the Deepmind and Neutron at the same time: the KS37 would leave you being able to control only one or the other of your synths in that scenario.

  • @jfly77

    I’m looking at getting a minilogue or a deepmind, since you have experience of both which one would you recommend (if you had to choose?)

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  5 років тому

      3 questions: is more than 4 note polyphony important to you? Which do you prefer the sound of? How deep do you want the sound design options to be (if this is important to you at all)?
      Honestly they are very different instruments and my tastes and requirements will probably differ from yours. For what it's worth - I bought the DM first.

    • @jfly77
      @jfly77 5 років тому

      Many thanks for the reply. I prefer the sound of the DM but I have one more question. Do either of them allow you to manipulate a line in signal like the korg minilogue?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  5 років тому

      Well the Minilogue does, but I wouldn't value that feature above the sound of the actual synth.

    can you play a lead over the control sequence drum beat simultaneously on the Deepmind?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 роки тому +1

      Without some magic in the Mod Matrix, anything you play with be "drum machined". And with only 8 slots in the Mod Matrix you'd struggle to create the magic and still have a drum machine. So in practice the answer will almost always be no.

    • @robotman6493
      @robotman6493 3 роки тому +1

      @@OscillatorSink Can you show how it would be done even if it doesn't sound as beefy?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 роки тому +2

      Say you used Mod Matrix slots 1-4 to build your drum machine, you would assign the remaining slots with Mod Depth 1-4 as the destination, note number as the source, and full negative amount. This would make it so that anything involved in making the drum machine wouldn't affect the sound at higher notes. But 4 slots is barely enough to pull off a drum machine patch, so it's not going to sound good.

    Is there a synth that allows you to draw wave shapes in order to craft a sound?

    • @_thanksdavid_
      @_thanksdavid_ 6 років тому +1

      In terms of like literal drawing of the waveshape (as opposed to methods of additive synthesis which is a similar but less intuitive process), the only thing that accomplishes that would be in the Eurorack world. Waldorf is really the only hardware synthesizer company really utilizing wavetables which is the closest thing to doing what you're asking for and unfortunately they don't know how to market their products for Jack shit. In terms of Eurorack, Erica Synth's Graphic VCO is a new product which gets you what you want
