Fantastic video. I had such great fun going round the track with Jon. What a blast! The M135i pulls like a train and has some handling too!
I apologise for my navigation around the track. I hate the sound of my own voice. I still don't 'fully know' the ring. There's lots of braking zones and lines that I'm still not one hundred percent on, but I guess that will come with many more laps of the green hell!
Anyone who's considering going, I highly recommend it. Doesn't matter what you drive or your ability, just go and have a few laps, soak up the historic race track, in motion and try one of the best burgers I've ever had at Devils Diner. Just make sure you're hungry!!

Can I suggest you try different accommodation on your next trip. English run guesthouses in Nurburg village will be half the cost of the big hotel and are clean, tidy and very friendly.

Ha ha, brilliant. Looks like you had a great time. Just wondering could you put the sat nav on to "see" whats coming up? Failing that borrow a PlayStation or something to learn the track a bit. Would love to go myself but I don't think a 320d would be the best tool for the job

It's amazing isn't it john!! Me and a few buddys went in memory of one of our friends that passed who use to go every year. I was passenger in my mates s15 (check ring drift video -daveypug) we drove through the night into the sunlight, such a beautiful town with nice people. I loved every second of it, i think a few of the lads are going again next month but we'll be going in a massive group again next year so i'll give you a heads up! All the best

Sounds like the dampers are slightly too soft on your BMW. Could OEM compromise for bumpy roads or worn out dampers.

Nice little video. It's a wonder you didn't crash with that guy "teaching" you. Braking in a corner is a no no.
this is actually the 1st Nurburgring amateur ride along video I have watched in full. Awesome stuff. Looks beyond fun! If only there were something close to this experience in the States! Shame they have implemented so many speed zones and restrictions in DTM and other classes on that track.
thanks killa.. I just dont think you will see this type of thing made nowadays (a track this size etc)... the track was made in the 1920's I think... nowadays too much resistence to this sort of thing..

That was like watching the blind leading the blind, hilarious to watch and looked great fun. Try uprated dampers, not springs, a set of Bilstein will tighten it up without being too harsh on U.K. roads.

Timo managed 205 mph through the fox hole which is a bit mental and sat on his Rev limiter at 223mph on the straights.

Did you get a steak at the Pistenklause? If not you need to go again just for that. It's the second best experience in Nürburg.
doh.. we were desperate to find a good restaurant other than the hotel but everywhere was closed.. I will check this place out next time.. if theres any other cool things to check out in the area let me know please.. thnx
The Pistenklause is owned and run by Sabine Schmitz's parents and the restaurant is full of Ring racing memorabilia. The house specially is steak served on a hot stone.

Glad you enjoyed your trip! Have a word with your co-driver, he needs to know the track a lot better, I hope he didn't ruin the experience for you, he didn't call any of the proper braking points, at least on film. It seemed like your first run, so it was good you took it rather easy, you have to start slow because you need to scope out the track conditions on this lengthy lap, it might still be wet on one end and if you're going full on you might not expect that behind a blind corner.
One recommendation before you go again, have some virtual track practice, drive some "Project Cars", "Assetto Corsa", "Forza" or even "Gran Turismo", with a steering wheel on a gaming rig, just so you get to know the track better. The investment into a bit of hardware will pay off if you don't crash because you know the track.... and it will pay off hugely if you actually want to improve your lap time.

like reg says I asked for pointers on where to break etc, didnt ruin it I needed it! ;) the go pro video is also slightley out of sync with the audio from the main camera which I think makes the points where reg said break a bit off..

Only saw your pinned comment after I posted mine, but nevertheless, I was just sayin that you should have done a lot better in calling out the braking points, some obvious ones were missed by a country mile and it was just barely caught. If I take someone along for the ride who supposedly knows the track I expect him to be more on point as that is what you have to depend on, particularly on the Nordschleife with the many blind crests. You know very well that there is barely any room for error, particularly on a tourist day lap with all the traffic.
Personally, I have done a handful of laps there in reality, many more virtually, but I would claim to have no more than decent track knowledge. This track is a beast that even the best drivers get caught out on, so your approach seems a little light hearted. If you take this the right way, it'll only make you better, if you think I'm out to get you or spew hatred then whatever. Your lap was good, it shows you know the track a lot better than what came across in the co-driving part. You even hit the carousel right, didn't lift through Pflanzgarten, it was a good lap, but if you sit next to someone who's driving there for the first time, you need to talk more. That's all.
Ok, the audio bit might have been what made this so hard to watch at times, didn't take that into account. Glad you enjoyed it, it's the best f**ing track in the world!
If you ever go again, next time also step into the car of sabina and go for a lap.
She is on of the official drivers from the track, she will go flat out and show you how to drive the track.
