As a 20 year old, I just bought a Silk Degrees LP from Goodwill today and even though I loved the album anyways, the wax version is NUTS! Boz Skaggs is marked by restraint. Horns just loud enough. Perfect balance between bass and guitar. Sounds great in concert. Instrumental break without a solo, just builds bar by bar... awesome.
From SongFacts.com...Boz Scaggs wrote this song with David Paich, who was also his co-writer on "Lowdown." In our 2013 interview with Scaggs, he talked about how the song came about: "'Lido' was a song that I'd been banging around. And I kind of stole... well, I didn't steal anything. I just took the idea of the shuffle. There was a song that Fats Domino did called 'The Fat Man' that had a kind of driving shuffle beat that I used to play on the piano, and I just started kind of singing along with it. Then I showed it to Paich and he helped me fill it out. It ended up being 'Lido Shuffle.'" The song is about a drifter looking for a big score. Scaggs and Paich were both very good at crafting songs with intriguing storylines using words and phrases that don't often show up in a lyric: "A tombstone bar," "makin' like a beeline..." The name Lido is very unusual as well. From the perspective of songcraft, it's very versatile, allowing the singer to get clear vocal sounds and follow with the "whoa-oh-oh-oh" hook. Kenny Loggins did something similar on his song "Footloose," writing the character "Milo" into it ("Woah... Milo, come on, come on let's go").
Honestly, this feels like a perfect song to me, from the excellently-delivered lyrics to the driving shuffle rhythm to exactly the right amount of keyboards and horns. Every time I hear it I get a little excited because I get to hear it again.

I love this song. 3 years ago we took a holiday to Australia from the UK to see family. On the second day I picked up our rental car and when I turned the radio on this song was just starting. I cruised down the Camden Highway with this blasting out whilst I drove the car back to our place. What a start to a great holiday. This song will always remind me of this.
Grew up in the East Bay loving Boz Scaggs music. If you can imagine, Boz playing at the Paramount in Oakland, forty-five years ago, and people dressing to the nines to see him. It was as much of an event as seeing Tower of Power, maybe more!
I met Boz Skaggs in the 70’s . He was doing a concert in Phoenix and the band had a huge roasted pig feast .. (some hotel up on camelback) then we all left for the concert in a huge limo convoy... the 70’s were fun.
Two songs for you if you have not reacted to them already: “How Long Has This Been Going On” by Ace, and Squeeze’s “Tempted”, both sung by Paul Carrack. The joy and humor in your videos are infectious. Thank you!

73 year old hippie chick here! Spent quality time in my twenties listening to Boz Scaggs and Steve Miller while driving my Pontiac LeMans! You would have loved that time. So great to see you loving this music!
Piece of trivia: this song was co written by David Paich, who was the lead vocalist on Toto's "Africa". Also, three members of Scaggs' band here would go on to form Toto later on (the abovementioned Paich who also did piano on this album, as well as Jeff Porcaro on drums and David Hungate on bass).
Glad you like it. Always been a favorite of mine. That driving groove just picks you up and moves you like an unexpected strong gust of wind. And the lyrics?! Are to die for, for sing a longs! What great times we had singing along to this on the school bus back in the day. One of the songs that drove me to play drums.

Half of band "Toto" on this tune (and album). David Hungate - bass, Jeff Porcaro - drums, David Paich - Hammond organ, piano, Minimoog, Moog synthesizer. Paich co-wrote this song as well as "Lowdown". Recorded in 1975 and released on "Silk Degrees" in early 1976.

I now look forward to listening to you every day! The music you’re playing was MY music back in the day so great memories. I’m a music fanatic and with everything going on in our country you’re a breath of fresh air! Keep on keeping on!
I participated in this era. It was a WONDERFUL era! Wonderful in so many ways. The connection is obvious - it was major at that time and I'm so happy to have been a part of it. I'm happy too, to see you, a man of another era and another race experience the connection. We're all one dude!
Same era- Warren Zevon - Excitable Boy, Werewolves of London, lawyers guns and money 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Warren Zevon for sure . Indefference of Heaven , Sentimental Hygiene , Jungle Work , Leave My Monkey Alone , The French Inhaler .

He’s on schedule to do a show in my town come August; hope like hell it doesn’t get cancelled!
Also check out JoJo by Boz, great tune.
Grew up in the East Bay loving Boz Scaggs music. If you can imagine, Boz playing at the Paramount in Oakland, forty-five years ago, and people dressing to the nines to see him. It was as much of an event as seeing Tower of Power, maybe more!
You do bring some joy to the day when I watch your reactions. You have a lovely soul 👍🏽👏🏽👍🏽
And Boz is fab. Glad you're reacting to his work 😊
I met Boz Skaggs in the 70’s .
Thank you!
Paul Carrack also sang lead on some Mike + The Mechanics songs, the band led by Mike Rutherford of Genesis.
Paul Carrack joined Squeeze as a replacement for Jools Holland... yes, the guy who has the music show "Live with Jools Holland" on MTV Live (the old Palladium channel).
Lol.. when we were kids my twin sister was fighting her weight alla time.. shes beautiful and healthy.. but you know young girls... id sing " Tempted by some food in the cupboard.. tempted but that fruit aint for mother... whats been goin on.. your badonka donk.. " along with convincing her she wasn't my twin she was really adopted... poor girl
Yes please react to "How Long Has This Been Going On"
2 GREAT songs
Sounds like 'jobs' refers to robbing or gambling. It does. No matter, Boz Scaggs is all over whatever he's doing! Thanks for the reaction, Jamel! It is what it is. He's him.
Haven’t heard this in years! I always blasted it when it came on. Such a singable melody! Thx J!
73 year old hippie chick here! Spent quality time in my twenties listening to Boz Scaggs and Steve Miller while driving my Pontiac LeMans! You would have loved that time. So great to see you loving this music!
My brother~ you keep posting these videos!!! Hope you’re staying safe and healthy!!
Boz Scaggs was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. He is really a blues man! And can he play the blues on the guitar.
Thank you! This is one of my faves by Boz! Every song on the Silk Degrees album is great stuff!
Boz is one cool cat, he ran a bar on Union st in San Francisco for years and was always up for the fan and to party. I was too young at the time to join, but my pop's was up there all the time. Boz is a real Bay area gem.
Yep, he is him and this is that lol! Keep at it Jamal! May I suggest classic Steve Miller Band? "Rock'n Me", "Abracadabra", "Fly like an Eagle" of course... I also agree with the suggestions above/below, Van Morrison, more Peter Gabriel, Kings X "Born To Be Loved" is a tune you'll probably appreciate. Stay safe, we need you now more than ever!
In the dictionary next to the word "cool" is a picture of Boz Scaggs
This is my favorite song by Boz Skaggs and I love Breakdown and Lowdown. Thanks Jamal keep on rocking coolest of the cool❤❤Holly 👍👍I thought it was about getting to the next show!! 🤷♀️
This is so much fun watching these videos with your reactions! You’re probably introducing people to this great music for the first time and that is awesome!!! Play some Moody Blues !
giving away my age but i went to Musicians Institute back in 1998 and Jeff's daddy Joe Pocaro used to teach there and Jeff would come in time to time to give a master class and he was so gracious and kind...a really really great drummer and human being RIP Jeff
Boz had some great musicians playing with him over the years. Duane Allman, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Lukather to name a few. More recently a guitar player name Drew Zing who is awesome.
One of the best musicians of the 20th century I loved he's music he was so original
