Jamal - I have to say I'm surprised I haven't seen a reaction to Parliament's Flashlight from the 70's from you. That is grand funk on a grand scale. It's one of the most complex funk grooves I've ever heard and I defy you to listen to it without getting up and gettin' DOWN.
This song was on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack. One of my favorite Boz Skaggs songs. Nice to slow dance to back in the day. Wow, those ladies can SING!! The original was from around 1980.

Boz Scaggs- "Miss Sun" - Dukes of September live 3 living legends on stage. Miss Monet has been singing back up with Boz for over 20 years. The duet is phenomenal
Back in the 70's,my mom loved Bozz Skaggs. Her favorite song is Ledow Shuffle. I'm now 60 and playing that song when I visit my mom. She's has Dementia now. But hums like crazy when she hears that song.
This is so beautiful! My mother also has dementia. My favorite moments with her are times such as you described when I can bring something up that really lights her up and sparks good memories. Blessings to your mom and to you.
That's the beauty of music it brings joy to everyone. My mom also had dementia sadly she is no longer here with us but we would sing songs she loved and all the memories flowed. Music is a wonderful bridge for the mind and different languages. It pulls you together when there is no understanding. Best wishes to you all and your moms.
Those first chords send chills all over. One of the greatest love songs ever. Check out some Dukes of September. Boz, Michael McDonald, and Donald Fagan.
I have been enjoying Boz Scaggs all the way back when he was with. and in Steve Millers band for his first two LPs, ( 1968- 1969 )..and enjoyed him continously from album to album.. and his newest ones since the early 2000's .. are some of his very best ever ! Incredible artist, and much more than " I'll Be Long Gone" and Loan Me A Dime" !!!
@@GorgeousRandyFlamethrower- Absolutely ! I love his albums up until " Silk Degrees" the most ! He was big out west as we are close in proximity to the great Bay Area music scene that started in the mid sixties.. including Boz, and Stevie Guitar Miller !!
Me too. This concert was at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. I first saw him on local TV when I was 15. Then saw him live a few months later. Saw him live many times as a local band before he got really big. I am a long time fan. I was out of the country for a little while. A friend of mine had a fling with him while I was gone. I was mad at her for a while. Lol!
I bought a DVD of this concert ..........I think it was filmed inside of the club he owned in the bay area. 'Lido' is I think the one where he lets the girls singing backup really have fun with it.
Ms. Monet is blue haired backup singer. Boz wanted her on tour and got her a record deal! She’s awesome. Check out Miss Sun from the same concert. Amazing Ms. Monet performance ⭐️👍
I saw Boz in concert a couple of months ago in Santa Rosa, CA. The man is 78 years old and sounds absolutely PERFECT! I go to a lot of concerts (seeing Chicago at same venue next month) and his show was the best I've seen in years. If you get a chance to see him live don't miss it. He's a fabulous guitar player too!
Did Robert Cray open for him on that one? The entire concert just this past Saturday night was frickin' incredible! Couldn't have asked for a better combination!
@@roadkill7314 I sure do consider myself to be! The third act was a single singer, Jeff LeBlanc. Would more expect him as a bar or winery act but he was fairly good. But, man! This was my summer of live music and although I saw an incredible performance by ZZ Top just a few weeks ago, this one just edges them out as my favorite for the summer (mostly because their opener was good but a bit boring to be opening for ZZ Top).

The director of the movie Urban Cowboy called up Box Scaggs and David Foster and said they needed a love song for the movie, and fast. So David Foster and Boz Scaggs wrote this song in just 30 minutes, Then David, Boz, and members of TOTO and The Eagles cut the song in about 6 hours, put the tapes on a plane to the film shoot so the director could hear it and put in the film. The female background vocals were added later for the actual release of the soundtrack of the film. :-)
Came back for an “umpteenth ” watch. As I do on a LOT of your reactions. 🙂 This song was released in 1980- ALWAYS takes me to one of my favorite movies ,Urban Cowboy with John Travolta and Debra Winger. Just like the song “Up where we belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warrens takes me to the fantastic movie Officer and a Gentleman. With Richard Gere and and again Debra Winger. Love Debra ,Sally Fields and Sissy Spacek acting. They really bring the true raw, “grit” to a movie- LOVE these songs AND movies! Plenty more as well. 😁💜🌟

One of the most beautiful songs, sung by one of THE BEST singers of all time. I never get tired of hearing it, studio version or live.Thank you J_AKA_J.
Lovely! The lady with the blue hair must've been channeling the late Minnie Riperton with those high clear notes. I was feeling a bit sad for myself because yesterday was my 18th wedding anniversary, but my husband is away for work. We did get to note our 21st anniversary of our first meeting last month & we are accustomed to time apart during holidays & special days. I was slow-dancing with him in my mind.
One of the greatest love songs of all time and the girls put such an AWESOME exclamation point ending to it. Reaches down into the soul and finds that good spot.

Thank you for covering this. Give a listen to the Silk Degrees album. It's ALL Good. The phrasing in his music is so important. Truly uses it to highlight his voice (as you mentioned). Helps to have a fantastic backup group (Eagles originally...I believe, if memory serves me).
Nobody sounds like Boz. He sounded great when he toured Australia nearly fifty years ago...and like a fine wine, I believe he's getting even better. Great band...and the girls pulling Minnie Riperton notes out of the air at the end...WOW!
