  • Bass Pro Shop Boats Outboards Walk-through. Prices, and Specs Mercury Optimax, Verado Four stroke.
I went to Bass Pro Shop and checked out the Outboards for in case I ever want to buy one or build a boat on my own. Bass Pro has some awesome starting platforms with the Grizzly boats. I thought would it be cheaper to buy a motor and a no option boat. Would it be cheaper to buy a boat with a blown engine on Craiglist or facebook marketplace. There are so many different ways of taking a new outboard and powering any boat, even jon boats.
Let me know if you have ocnsidered this option to build your own boat.

I was thinking recently about buying a grizzly tracker 1548 and a bass pro shops 15hp Mercury motor. When I added the trailer I was at about 8k. Found a used bass tracker with a 75hp mercury and trailer for 3k. The boat is a little older but it’s in darn good shape. So I picked it up instead.

That sounds like an awesome buy. Its nice to have a new boat but it's all about what your needs are, and with a used boat you can set it up the way you like. I think I would of bought that one too.

@@TBassFactory I agree, I would rather have a 4K boat that is paid for, than a $20,000 boat that I have to make payments on for the next 8 - 10 years.

I had the same decision to make when I ordered my boat. I had to choose between a 115 or a 150. I ended up with the 115 because the 150 was going to cost me $2300 more to only get about 5 MPH more. I also could have gotten the XS Pro for about $400 more but decided on the standard 115 because the hole shot was not that important to me. They said it was only a slight difference in performance. I can use what I saved to get other accessories for the boat.

The pro xs is awesome if you want hole shot and sporty sound, my opinion is that they’re made more for a bass boat or for someone who wanted a bow rider with a 6.2 but was told by the wife they were getting a pontoon. (Nothing against a pontoon, I was walked past last weekend by a guy with a 350 verado in my cobalt 220 with a 300hp Volvo penta)

All Mercury outboards, 25 horsepower and under are made in China, by Tohatsu. You could probably save some money by just buying a Tohetsu. I used to sell boats and outboards at BPS. For the most part, all of those outboards that you're looking at on the top rack are hollow, dummy display motors.

@@ronsantschi1823 You're right, I mis-typed. The one thing that you've said that is throwing me a little bit is that Honda builds Tohatsu's bigger outboard's. Tohatsu builds Suzuki outboards, the parts are interchangeable. Now I'm talking about 90 h/p and under. What do you mean when you say "bigger outboard's"? How big? Sorry guess was confusing. Going back to 2012 when was involved biggest 4 stroke was 30hp. 2 stroke tldi was 40hp to 115hp. Before emissions crap they were talking about bigger 2 strokes they had a 140hp carb but don't remember if ever made a tldi (2 stoke low pressure injection). They could have used block from yamaha or either Suzuki to build a big v6 2stroke but they said if our motor will be built all by us at least at that time. Anyhow father-in-law said was in boating news Honda was going buid there bigger 4 stroke motors which would be 40 hp up. They have been building the 3.5 he going back to 84. Also Nissan outboard was built by them kinda like Johnson evinrude.

If one lives in the Socialist state of Illinois, most state controlled lakes, have a 10 hp limit. Some lakes have other hp limits. It's not always about what's the best bang for your buck. You have to do your home work and see where you can and will use the boat and motor before you buy.

Illinois has some awesome paived trails. You can ride e-scooters, ebikes, skateboards, walk, mechanical bikes, etc... on them. Signs everyplace saying no motor vehicles. What it means is no gasoline powered vehicles. Mostly for noise reasons. On bigger signs at the ends of the trails, they list what you can have. Doesn't matter electric motor size, because trails have a 15 mph limit. Like you said, problem solved.

This poor guy dosent know any more after visiting Bass Pro. The whole top rack of motors are dummies and empty and some not available anymore. Go to a real Mercury dealership, preferably one that's been a dealer for at least 20 yrs and get the real scoop. Bass Pro are IDIOTS and Useless .I wouldn't let one of there so called techs touch my lawnmower. I've been certified merc Tech for 35 years at a third generation Mercury dealer and Bass Pro is a joke ! And warrantee takes forever and its never rite when returned to the owner . I have first hand proof.
