As a clean install fan, I can't believe how complicated Apple has now made this process. I had a different experience (that may help silicon users)with a 2021 M1 MB Pro...after erasing the drive I was prompted to connect back to WiFi to "Activate" my account. Once that was done I was brought back to Recovery Window given an option to Install OS Monterrey again or go back in Disk Utility. Without making a selection I clicked on the Apple icon at the top left and Shut Down my MacBook. I powered back on in Recovery Mode (holding down power button) a SECOND time. The Install Ventura USB appeared this time, and after reconnecting to Wifi again I clicked on the Installer USB and was able to Install Ventura.
Wow what a process!. I can't believe you also had to connect to wifi to activate your account. I actually just made a follow up video showing us getting locked out of the OS until we connected to the internet as well 😯
Hey! I want to attempt this same process with Sonoma OS. If i download from the app store like you did for ventura should this work for my macbook? I have the 2019 intel. Just before the M1 was released.
I have done this, but I get the error 1008F. If it rejects the error, it stays at the same stage during the installation and does not move forward at all. What should I do, please guide me
Quick question. Do you know how to do this with multiple drives? For instance, I would like to be able to create 10 bootable drives at once in terminal.
Great job! After reading numerous help sites (including several Apple forum posts) and watching several videos, this was the one resource that helped me. As I prepared my old Mac for trade-in, I used Disk Utility to erase the SSD. But I wanted to have MacOS installed to prove the machine was bootable. My old USB thumb drive installer (High Sierra! Those were the days....) didn't work. So I was forced to look for an alternative. Following your very clear instructions, I was able to download Ventura to my new computer and create an installer on a spare drive. Then I was able to boot from that on the old machine and get it ready for shipping. Hooray! Thanks much. Suggestion: Please edit this video to boost the audio from 3:59 - 9:24 (the screen recording section), because it's almost inaudible for that critical part of the video. I had to boost my gain to the max to understand what you were saying, and then lunge to crank it back down when you returned to the "live" recording.
I appreciate your video but every time I do this I get errors. It erases the disk, it goes through the motions of copying the macOS recoveryOS but after that, the following message comes up; Failed to extract AssetData/boot/Firmware/Manifests/Installerboot/* from update bundle The bless of the installer disk failed. Any assistance would be helpful. When it erases it reformats it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I am using a 2023 16-inch MacBook Pro w/M2 Pro chip. Ventura 13.6.1
Didn't work - Several anomalies - Downloading Ventura from the Apple Store didn't give me the "Download" option. It always wanted me to install via update. Fortunately, I found the Install in the Applications folder and diligently followed the create bootable USB (32GB Sandisk) that seemed to work just fine. 2018 i9 MacBook Pro w/10.15.7 -connected to power the entire time. When attempting the clean install, booting from USB (holding OPT) I get the error - "A software update is required to use this startup disk. You can update now or select another startup disk" Pressing "UPDATE" renders an white apple logo, black field, progress bar. This fails and I get "An error occurred installing the update. Try again or select another startup disk". Click on Try Again puts me into a death loop, e.g. fail - try again. I've tried on several SanDisk drives same results. Then I just try the update path - gets only so far then errors out to "Need an internet connection to continue" Internet connection is very plainly in place. Totally frustrated with this crap.
@@lapfix Thanks. I mean, if I create a USB stick on a Mac mini, can I also use that same copy of Ventura to upgrade my MacBook Air? (or is it a separate download, made specifically for MacBook Air, different to Mac mini etc)
When I select the "Instal Ventura MacOS" after turning on the computer while holding command it immediately goes to the grey screen of death, do you know how to fix this?
When I tried to Erase the physical disk APPLE SSD AP0256Q Media it failed: > The volume on disk0 couldn't be unmounted because it is in use by process 0 (kernel) > Couldn't open device. : (-69877) Please help me

the volume on disk0 couldn't be unmounted because it is in use by process 0 (kernel)
does it work on 32-64 bit windows pc or do you have to have a mac? Does it work on both arm and intel macs?

i keep on getting this message in the terminal (whats the fix):
Copying essential files...
Copying the macOS RecoveryOS...
Monterey worked for me, I installed it to my usb drive from my iMac and installed the Monterey to my MacBook Pro 17.

Can you do a video on the error 1005f ?
I am currently on Ventura. How can I install big sur on my external SSD. Can I still use this method?
You would need the image of BIg Sur. We did make a video on making a bootable of it on our channel
Can I use the same USB install stick, to upgrade a Mac mini and a MacBook Air? (both M1)
Yes, M1 Macs are all covered for upgrade. You can use the same method (hold option with the USB plugged in) and boot from there
@@lapfix Thanks. I mean, if I create a USB stick on a Mac mini, can I also use that same copy of Ventura to upgrade my MacBook Air? (or is it a separate download, made specifically for MacBook Air, different to Mac mini etc)
@@mrqwakgames It's the same, so yes, you can use the USB made on the Mac Mini to install Ventura on the Macbook Air
How do you go about this using a windows machine?

Any idea why I keep getting this error when try to run this command? zsh: segmentation fault sudo --volume /Volumes/VENTURAUSB

After turn on with press power, option key doesn't go on boot menu on my macbook pro m1 2020? I tried all step. Whats wrong? Im sorry if my english is bad
M1 is different, hold the power button for a few seconds to get it into "boot/recovery menu"
@@lapfix yeah i solved this. Anyway thanks for your answer and nice video that helped me
Im going to try and install this on my ubuntu desktop. Wish me luck
There may be hardware checks involved in the installation. I've tried Big Sur to a USB and it gave me issues. Good luck
@@lapfix what do you recommend if I want to go from ubuntu to windows. I downloaded ubuntu but for obvious reasons it is quite limited
The bar gets stuck ~50% what’s wrong?
Is that when you are installing the OS after creating the USB?

Ventura is an absolute turd of an OS. Slow, choppy and glitchy. Either move up to Sonoma or downgrade to Monterey.
Thank you bro. Thats was easy
