Absolutely the clearest instructions I've come across. I got things wrong trying to follow two other sets of written but ambiguous instructions elsewhere before coming across Jeff's video. Nailed it in one. Very grateful. Truly excellent job.
I did it! It worked. I'm so exited, I know nothing about computers, accidentally erased my harddisk completely and needed to get it working again. Bought an USB drive and followed these instructions and it worked!! Thanks a million for these good to follow and clear instructions!! My Mac mini has a new lease on life. Thank you!!!
Wow, this is the most helpful tutorial! I am in Ethiopia helping a friend who had a 2015 Macbook air running on Mavericks (10.9). Ethiopia has no relationship with Apple, so there was no way for her to use an Apple ID. Plus, Mavericks is so old that no MacOS was showing up in the App store. Her machine can run on Big Sur, but she had no way of getting there without help. Your tutorial solved the problem! I have no technical skills to speak of but I was able to use your tutorial to install Big Sur so that she can download new apps and stay on a supported version of Apple's OS. She is now able to login with her apple ID, etc. THANK YOU! This would have cost her $100 USD at a shop to do, which is 1/3 of the average young college grad's monthly salary.
I am a former computer tech, and I must say, this is truly PERFECT video tutorial. Apple's protocol failed, and after 2 hours, I gave up and found your video that walked me through the process with ease. Thank you so much! I'm subscribing to support your channel as a hat's off thank you :)
Superb job. This is how instruction videos should be done. Nio annoying music. No begging. Straight to the point. Every step clearly explained. Thanks. again.
This is by far, the best tutorial for doing this. The speech is clear and concise, knowledgeable and the video is easily referred to when confirming that you are doing it right. Thank you!
I always do a fresh install of on my macs and even sometime after a few years of use will do one too. The awesome thing now is that macOS Monterey has a built in “Erase all contents and Settings” similar to iOS where instead of going through this process it will just wipe everything and put a clean copy of macOS just like a fresh install just without the hassle of booting from drive etc. maybe you should do a video on that! Pros and cons etc
MacOS has become read only, so there is pretty much no need to “reinstall macOS” as the system partition is not writable on normal operations anymore. I cant even mount the system partition inside macOS. One thing he should’ve mentioned is external boot option will NOT work if internal drive is dead. There is no viable way to extract data from it after the effect without some extremely sophisticated procedures and advanced tools.
Intel with T2 chip. Followed the instructions EXACTLY from Apple support website. After "clean" install - still junk PHP files. It does NOT do a clean install by this method.
Very easy to follow. I agree with the comments below. I did this on a Mac Book Air about 4 years old. Like he says be patient it took over an hour to do this.
After I watched tons of ways to create a bootable usb for Mac with no success, yours is definitely the simple and most effective way to do it, thanks a lot
This is a great tutorial. I got an "old" Macbook from a friend and it was completely empty and online reinstall didn't work either. I just reinstalled Macos Monterey on a 2015 Mabook Air. This video is a life saver. Thank you.
I used this method to boot Big Sur on my old 2014 mac-mini that was painfully slow in booting, running and opening apps. I bought a Samsung T7 Portable SSD - 1 TB for $110(Amazon). It is now much much faster than when I bought it new. Some things feel 2+ times faster. Everything pops up instantly so instead of junking my old mac mini I have a useable machine that I love again. Thank you
I am planning on doing the same thing. Question, I have the Monterey boot USB done. I understand holding down OPTION key to get to the right place. If the new SSD is connected and formatted properly (APFS/GUID, I think), do you then install it onto that drive?
