If you want to boot from a USB flash drive on intel Mac's you need to hold down the Option(alt) key while booting, not CMD+R as this will take you to the internal recovery partition if it has one.
I try everything and nothing worked for the last two days. I finally found a video that worked for me. I had such a hard time with other videos and no results but this video made everything perfect that made it work. Thank You!
Can you share the video I'm trying to install buy I'm not getting the option to install from USB the only option thaw shows is to enter my wifi, once it finish loading shows the window with disk utility and that is it.
I followed the process. After I erased the internal disk. I shut down the computer. I then started the computer. The only option I was prompted with is choose network. I then had to choose my WiFi network and input the password. I never got the option to boot or install from mounted disk
macbook air is A1466 not showing tht bootable disk when pressing tthe option key it only shows internet revoery & choose network let me know if you can help
Excellent instructions! I ran into the following error: APFS disks may not be used as bootable install media. An error occurred erasing the disk. I was able to resolve using Disk Utilities by creating it as a full partition (since reformatting gave me no other choices but APFS choices) and selecting FAT. Seems the disk gets reformatted during the process anyway.
Thank you buddy..I was strugging from past one month with my Mac studio.I forgot the password and to recover that i have erased the machine.Installer error was keep coming when reinstalling the macOS from apple website. your Video really saved my time. Thank you once again.God Bless you
In years past I used to clean install my Mac every time a new edition of macOS came out. But now I don't bother to do a clean install as it is a hasle to reinstall all the apps I use and set up my email accounts etc. I look forward to macOS Sonoma. I might to a clean install of macOS Sonoma if my Mac is having performance issues.
yes, you don't have to make a clean install every year. This option is suitable only for those who have some issues with their computers. I think I will also do a clean install in September when macOS Sonoma will be released
@@ArthurBrassarthey 👋🏻 so I’m trying to install Mac OS Catalina on my late 2013 Mac Pro. I followed all the steps but when it was finished installing it was just a black screen with my cursor… a voice also said I could continue Mac setup using voice over, but that didn’t really work. I know my screen works I just can’t understand why this happened 🤷♂️
I formatted my SSD as advised using APFS but now I can’t see the drive as an option to install the new OS. How can I fix this as my iMac defaults to Internet Recovery mode which also fails?
Strange, you should be able to see it. I have created the "USB installer" in a 50GB partition of an SSD (as usual) the partition is formatted as "MacOs Plus with register" then when I boot no problem with my APFS volumen.
You have probably fixed this by now but for anyone who is looking in the comments for a solution to this problem then please know that I managed to fix this issue after speaking with an Apple tech support guy. You need to go onto your findmydevice icloud account and delete the registered device you are trying to fix. Then shut down your mac and restart while holding command + options + R. This will then start the internet recovery which should be successful this time. You can then proceed to install the OS from there. Hope this helps.
Same problem. So I tried to use Disk Utilities to Erase and reformat the drive, but there was no other choice but the variations for APFS. So I went to Partition and Partitioned the whole thing as FAT. Once the copying was finished (per this video), it seems to have reformatted the disk to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
