I saw this documentary as a young boy long ago growing up in the city - fascinated by “forest firefighters.” A college degree in forestry & 30+ years working in wildland fire management later its hard to believe this film had such an effect on me!
I remember watching this a a small boy in 1970. And I was bitten to be a firefighter. Emergency TV series came along in 1972 and the Fire/Rescue/EMS Department was firmly etched in my brain as my future career. About 40 years ago, As a 17 year old volunteer firefighter we had a huge brush fire started as an unattended construction site debris open burn that turned into a 3rd alarm brush fire to an all out general alarm. The fire chief pulled up to the fire station in his own personal pick up truck to retrieve those of us who missed the apparatus. He hollered, grab your gear and get in boys. 8 of us 16 to 18 years old piled in the back of his truck without hesitation or reservation. 10 hours later we were done and the guy responsible for the unattended fire at the construction site was in handcuffs and fined.
My Speech Therapist,Roger Buckingham, is in this video. He’s the man who said that’s what he would be doing when he finished school at Central WA University in Ellensburg, WA. He was my Therapist in Elementary school in Cashmere, WA from ‘80-‘82.
Lol, it's like watching all those 80's movies, same music, same voice... how far we've come... only the quality of the video has improved. The innocent still pay for the guilty.

I remember seeing this in Grade School. Good to see that someone saved it from oblivion.

I'm not sure, but I remember watching a documentary on TV about a Washington wildfire back in the early 70's. I wonder if this is it.
Sad to realize that even though this was not that long ago, many of these young men are probably dead by now.
