The Wisconsin pileup was caused by something all too often seen in drivers from states with harsh winters, hubris. The officer and every car I saw in motion were clearly going too fast for visibility and road conditions, period.
When I look at this from living in Virginia, I wonder about if people do this on purpose, or is there some different mental state people from this region experience. Just looking from the outside in we can clearly see thousands of examples people don't need to be driving at the speeds they are. It's weird to look at footage people flying on the roads in obvious chaos.
He had a TON of water and ice on his windshield on top of that, like wtf a cop that doesn't know how windshield wipers work? The real issue though was the speed for sure like bro HTF was that not seen as unsafe...
I'm from Mississippi and landed in Providence, RI to go to Massachusetts after a snow storm. Folks were flying by me on the snow covered interstate. I couldn't even determine which lane I was occupying, much less do over 45 mph. I was in a lane, until I noticed that the overpass pylon was closer than usual. My lane had turned into an exit lane while I continued straight into the breakdown lane. Everything was snow white. I saw about 4 vehicles off that had run off the road due to high speeds. My Mississippi arse wasn't taking any chances, other than being rear-ended. 😂

I’m a plumber and a few months ago I was testing the gas line in a new house. Just walking around with my boss and checking for leaks and to make sure every gas fixture is hooked up properly. Long story short he’s kind of a dumbass and we were in the attic checking the water heater because we smelled gas. My boss then tries to light a cigarette or something. And bro I saw him flicking his light in slow motion. Then suddenly *poof* we got shot up a foot in the air. Thankfully we were all right. Gas is no joke, same thing goes for all trades.
My cat nearly killed me and my mom once. We were renting a place that had a very old gas stove with little to no safety features. My cat was old and fat, which did not stop her from attempting to jump on high places. Key word *attempting*. One night mom woke up because of strange hissing noise. She went to investigate and found the stove turned on but without fire, just leaking gas, and the cat was sitting nearby looking freaked out. Having seen her unsuccessful jumps before, we assume she tried to jump on the stove but failed and turned it on while scrambling. Come to think of it, I don't think she tried to jump on stuff anymore after that, instead she trained us to lift her on windowsills and put her down again. So that's a no for me on gas. Even if it's a new stove with safety features, I prefer induction. It's more effective anyway.
@@MysteryUser-Who-Is-Mysterious When I was very little, we had a Golden-Alsation mix dog. It was as dumb as a potato and as jumpy as a Cricket. The towel caught fire and smoke had started to fill the house. Luckily someone in the house woke up and sorted it. My bedroom was completely smoked out.

At least once in your life you're going to end up in the ditch or an accident because of ice and snow, and since we drive in it since at least 16 it does go to our heads a little. You’d think being born and raised in the snowy states it would make people more vigilant about how to drive in the winter but no, it just made people overly confidant as much as I want to feel sad about that pile up situation the guy got himself into that situation. Remember folks just because it’s the highway doesn’t mean you have to go 65-70 if the conditions aren’t favorable
Highway people are just retarded, it doesn't matter what the conditions, even when its snowy everyone around here goes the speed limit and then we have a 100+ car pileup which insurance pays for which causes everyone's rates to go up.
But the speed limit says 70!! so I have to go 75 right? I think people really think of it as the speed setting of the road, not a limit(people will get mad at those driving even just 2-4mph under) and don't give it a second thought.
@@cherriberri8373 Yeah, that's gotta be the worst mentality to have but these drivers just don't have the experience to understand how fast to go. Some extreme conditions driving should really be a requirement for the drivers licenses in the US (kinda like how Germany does theirs). A lot of people immediately start driving a car, without ever driving a go-kart, 4 wheeler, etc. They've never had to immediately stop, and panic because they aren't stopping. They've never drove on anything but pavement so they've never experienced the vehicle losing traction, drifting, or rolling over. And since they think "I'll hit my brakes and stop" they just go 70 because everyone goes 70, without realizing that they have 1000ft of stopping distance but can only see 300ft in front of them (numbers are made up). Just to clarify, I'm not against speeding, if you're on an empty road on a summer day with no intersections, that sounds like a perfect time for a "speedometer test". Personally I think speed limits should be abolished on federal highways, let the idiots sort themselves out. Sorry for the wall of text, I'm procrastinating doing stuff at the moment, so every word counts!
I think the reason we can't abolish speed limits is the idiots sorting themselves out take out other people with them. People get angry at people who have their newborn fresh from the hospital in the back and are driving so carefully home.@@linuxguy1199
My friend's father was killed in the mudslide shown at the end. Total of 23 victims. It was harrowing to watch the police trying to figure out how to navigate this disaster and their duties to serve.
Yep, I was thinking the same thing, that cop was idiotic driving 55 in a 2WD vehicle probably with summer tires in a few inches of snow + ice. Even 25 is way too fast for those conditions. Had an experience like this last year, a cop passed me, slammed on his brakes so he could pull me over for doing 35 in a 55 while in 10 degree weather hauling a trailer at night with nobody on the road, wasn't blocking any traffic, had all of my truck and trailer lights functional, etc. It's absolutely ridiculous how dangerous cops can be in bad weather conditions. I went to court for the issue and after showing dashcam of my entire truck sliding at the off ramp the judge dismissed the charges. Buy a dashcam, saves you a lot in the long run.
@@michaelhoward142 thank u i cant stand people thinking 4/awd actually matters. sure, starting from 0 mph or going up a hill it will help. but aside from that it shouldnt make you any more confident for braking and turning
@@Scotty-vs4lf It should actually make you less confident, it removes traction for turning because you're using it for power, increases your steering radius, it adds a lot more weight, and distributes that weight fairly evenly which means less weight focused on the front wheels... People's concept of a good snow vehicle is so backwards, and they'd rather spend thousands extra on to get something they don't even understand. A house exploded near my home when I was 11 or 12. It was in the middle of the night and my parents and I were instantly jolted awake. The wife and either one or two daughters were killed when she turned on a light. The husband and their son were away at the time. They sued the gas company for negligence of some kind and ended getting millions. No amount could replace what was lost. The video of that house exploding in this comp helps me visualize what actually happened that night. Shocking stuff.
It's happend to a couple of homes over the years where I live. One of them had a Propane heating system.. No way, no how could I live in a home with Propane heat after that happened. So horrible no matter the circumstances 😢
Ditto age 14. Daytime. Saw the house turn into a spire of sparkles. Backhoe in the street cut the gas line. Man and his wife were home. I was first on scene. He was still in his recliner - clothes all gone. Wife was in the back yard bleeding. Both were deaf. Cat and dog were never found. I will never live in a house with natural gas.
That happened at a new development near where my mom lived. A quiet day and then all of the sudden..."BOOM!!!". Because it was still under construction, nobody was there, but Mom said it made one hell of a noise.
I was around 15 and sitting on my computer (the old type with the CRT monitor) and heard a "boom" and felt the whole house shake, and my heavy monitor nearly fall off my table. About 10 blocks away, a 3-story high boiler at a plastics plant exploded. No remains were found of the worker standing on top of it at the time. It was chilling, to say the least.
My driver's ed instructor told us once: you're in a 2-ton bullet. If someone on the street is trying to force you out of your car, hit the gas. In more than a few of these, the video would serve as proof the person in the vehicle was acting in self-defense.
This video was very educational. I wasn't aware of all the different types of roadblocks/ carjackings that could happen. So thank you for sharing this. As for the creepy guy on the side of the road, there's no way I would have slowed down like that. He could have been dumping a body for all you know.
In reference to the Russia ambush attempt I'm guessing that the thugs that placed the obstacles there never planned for more than one vehicle to stop at a time. The fact that there were 2 is probably what saved one of them their life that night.
@@lightsfansofthewest481 There is a universal difference between "People just blocking the road" and people actively encroaching onto and assaulting you. That's the difference between "first degree manslaughter" (which wouldn't even apply in this case regardless) and self defense.

The narrator said there were supposedly 5 more masked suspects just off camera. Without a gun it would be nearly impossible to become a hero against 6 attackers. I did give your comment a like though because the man could've verbally deescalated and studied details while waiting for the police once he got to the safety of the building.
@ElvenJusticeyeah she didn't seem very bright. The second I see a group of dudes with masks approaching me, I'm out of there. Let alone them surrounding me! Rule of thumb, a black person(s) hovering around your vehicle, with masks no less, is a zero trust/get the fuck out of there zone for anyone who can't defend themselves. They are thinking exactly what you think they're thinking. They want your shit because they didn't have to work for it or pay for any of it. Your life may be rendered as a mere inconvenience in their pursuit of your shit. Don't say I didn't tell you.
The bottle/branch roadblock was definitely an ambush that failed and that girls is LUCKY the other guy pulled up right after her. That was what made the predator hesitate.
If I saw some creepy figure walking along the road in the dark I wouldn't sit there like a victim and look for them. I'd get the hell away. So makes me think these two set this up.

These were all terrifying! But that pile up is so scary. I can’t imagine the fear hearing cars continue to crash in to you. I saw one that was caused by extreme fog. It was horrible
My parents experienced something like that in the 70s in germany, they drove through intense mist, suddenly all around them terrifying crashing noises, but somehow they made it through and even the car didn't got one scratch...
If there's one thing I've learned from these types of videos it's that you never get out of the vehicle when there's a pile up. That's how you become a flapjack.
at @7:45 you describe a group of immigrants who were 'angered by the demolition of their camp' -- that's not quite true. whilst the camp had been demolished around that time, they were going to steal the truck and pile themselves into it so that they could illegally cross into the UK. The camp being demolished didn't cause it, their behaviour is just criminal.
They felt it was taking too long for them ti get to the uK, do they tryied to get matters in their own hands. The camp was demolished because there was too much criminal activity, from stealing to raping to burning accomodations. In a just world they'd all be back where they came from, but I know that is not the case.
That house exploding reminds me exactly why i will never live in a house with gas... perferably not even in a neighborhood with gas lines. Not worth the risk of randomly blowing up someday.

@@ED-es2qvhe was probably already trying to slow down at that point. If you haven't had to drive in weather like that, it's easy to say, "you should have done this" but if you drive 15mph on the freeway with low visibility you will likely cause a pileup which is probably what started it. Say what you want, but look at average snow fall per school cancellation in Wisconsin versus Southern states. There would be many days/weeks of no school or work if Wisconsinites treated it like Floridians do. Life keeps rolling regardless of the weather.

While I agree with that first part (I would just turn around and nope the hell out of there) if you do end up popping a tire on a roadblock then you're REALLY in danger because you can't escape from someone trying to cause you harm
Bad weather pileups are never caused by bad weather. They are caused by bad drivers driving too fast or aggressively for the conditions. And, yes, I have been one of those bad drivers in the past.
I tend to agree with you on that and I've had a couple moderate fuckups myself (bents sheet metal, buggered suspension bits but no deaths.) In Canada and probably northernmost US states too one of the best things you can get for your car is winter tires. It's just that it's a moderate nuisance having two separate sets and remembering to swap wheels twice a year so many people just stick with all-weather tires which really, honestly, are pretty shitty in the winter. In my own experience, good winter tires on packed snow are almost as good as really crappy all-weather tires on dry pavement (I had a set of Blizzaks on my RX-7).

I was on I-75 about 30 years ago, in Florida, and I was driving through fire, so I was speeding. Once I was out of the flames, I continued to speed, to get to a gas station to report the wildfires. I caught up with a car that had a chain dragging behind the rear bumper, leaving a trail of sparks. I began honking my horn. It was 4am, and he would not pull over. I chased him, honking for almost 50 miles before he pulled over. I told him he was dragging a chain, and everywhere he went, he was starting fires. In a white pickup truck, the guy was a jerk! I went 50 miles in the wrong direction, and he was mad that I pulled him over! He sped away, still dragging the chain!
Did you get his license plate # and take a picture of him? Bloke should be charged with arson. Additionally I believe during burn bans and wildfire danger seasons people who throw cigarette butts out of car windows should be charged with attempted arson.
12:52 Can we take a moment to appreciate this trucker's skill! Drifting around a bend at full speed, hopping a fallen tree, and still manages to straighten out before slamming into the other vehicles
A coworker and I both left work at midnight. In her way home, my coworker stopped at a 4-way stop. Her pickup was rearended, and as she exited the vehicle to survey the damage, a man exited the vehicle which hit hers. Instead of joining her at the rear of her truck, the man instead jumped into the driver side and drove off in her truck. The offenders' truck then also sped off, leaving her alone at a desolate intersection after midnight.
All the cars that I’ve had in the last 20 years has had auto locks. They lock when I put it in drive. It can be disconnected but nope I like that feature.

Even more terrifying for ppl like me who have very little sense of smell 😳

Thing is. Even in the video i saw brake lights and slamming brakes over 10 seconds before any kind of reaction in video.
Its stupidity
Not speed
@@screener545 Well, yeah, it's stupid to have that high speed on a snow covered icy slippery road like that. If you had the same speed on similar road conditions you are also stupid.
Omg that's tarible😧
That's a good instructor
This video was very educational. I wasn't aware of all the different types of roadblocks/ carjackings that could happen. So thank you for sharing this.
As for the creepy guy on the side of the road, there's no way I would have slowed down like that. He could have been dumping a body for all you know.
In reference to the Russia ambush attempt I'm guessing that the thugs that placed the obstacles there never planned for more than one vehicle to stop at a time. The fact that there were 2 is probably what saved one of them their life that night.

@ 19:46: Don't get out of your freakin car if you come across a roadblock. Your tire or front bumper is not worth your life.
While I agree with that first part (I would just turn around and nope the hell out of there) if you do end up popping a tire on a roadblock then you're REALLY in danger because you can't escape from someone trying to cause you harm
The cop driving on the icy road was going way to fast for those conditions in the first place and should have known better than that.
It also happens when people slam on the brakes. That will send you sliding out of control and increase your speed.
