RIP Bob, you will be greatly missed. You definitely had one of the hardest jobs on MG of being the first to fill Richard's seat after the earliest episodes, and you handled it well. Rest in peace.
I'm sad to announce that Bob Barker passed away Saturday morning. 8/26/2023. Truly appreciate his work over my lifetime. The world just got even more sad today. R.I.P. Bob and THANK YOU FOR ALL THE JOY YOU HAVE BROUGHT MILLIONS OVER MANY MANY YEARS.
The true reason why Bob Barker is sitting in Richard’s seat first is because IRA panicked! They had no idea who to put in Richard’s seat. Bob was the first call. He was very close by. It was still planned that Richard Dawson would be appearing on this week of shows
@@justinmay3451 After the previous set of tapings, Richard just up and left without saying anything. Nobody knew until THIS set of tapings that Richard quit

Bob: why is it carved here “the sun never sets on the British Empire”? Gene: I thought he was going to be here forever. That was shady towards Richard.
I'd like to think, based on the obvious edit just before Bob's Empire comment, that Gene said something (nice!) about Dawson's departure and Bob's comment followed from that. Maybe, out of spite, Ira Skutch edited out whatever Gene had said. Gene never seemed to have anything against Richard Dawson so it's hard to imagine him not giving him due props by saying something about his leaving the show after all those successful years in the middle lower-tier chair.
I wonder what they cut out. What did Gene say? We only know two people still alive who could tell us: Bob Barker and Fannie Flagg. Someone should ask them. For "(Blank) on my mind" I thought of "Always on my mind." The 1982 Willie Nelson version hadn't come out yet, but the 1972 Elvis version had. Then again, the panelists aren't known for knowing modern songs. Gene and Brett were always breaking out and singing songs from the 1940's. I'm surprised Gene knew Patty Duke's reference to the song "Raindrops keep falling on my head".
Richard was very put- off when they started using the Star Wheel instead of the contestant calling on him. Finally, he got fed up with the attention he was no longer getting, and that's why he left. He had his own show, Family Feud, where he had no rival for the ladies' attention.
@@nicoleknight9412 I really think he was too classy to feel that way. His interaction with EVERYone on the show was fabulous - good lord, he didn’t choose himself each time. The contestants chose him because he usually matched them and made them money.
