- This episode of "Match Game '79" was the final one to air on CBS. The show's run on the network ended in an odd way, with 16 episodes left unaired. In the final 3 weeks on CBS, 6 episodes were unaired, including the final two for this week. There were another 10 episodes taped afterwards, but never aired.
Note: I checked the Match Game Episode Guide online to verify that this was, in fact, the final aired episode. According to that, the final week consisted of the Monday & Tuesday episodes from the prior week, and Monday-Wednesday of this week. Take that for what you will, but it's the information that I'm going with.

Just sad no one knew the show was cancelled
Really sad that the show never got to have a proper goodbye. Yes by this time the show pretty much lost it's popularity, but CBS should have respected it more since it was the number one show in daytime for at least two years. 1975 and 1976 I believe. They just should have respected it more, so Gene, and even Brett and Charles could have said their goodbyes formally. They were loyal to that show for six years.
This is the last episode of the CBS Match Game run and it's aired on April 20, 1979.

When CBS aired Match Game after Richard Dawson left, WBNG Ch. 12 Binghamton, WDAU-22 Scranton, WTVH-5 Syracuse, and WHEC Ch. 10 Rochester didn't air this. But WIVB Ch. 4 Buffalo aired this at 9:30am.

On Friday April 20, 1979 "MATCH GAME 79 (1979)" IS CANCELLED ON CBS-TV DAYTIME and next weekday/Monday-Friday April 23-27, 1979 "LOVE OF LIFE" will take over the 4:00-4:30 PM Eastern Time Slot.

Three more weeks had been taped, but they never aired on CBS. This was the last one to air. GSN aired them in 2001, but that was the first time they were seen.
