I'm finding that fighting the F16C is the hardest right now. The plane is amazing and the 9Ms are really good. The R73 is better at close range but the SMT has such Awful performance it limits the usefulness of the 73.

@christopherchartier3017 lmao that's not "balance" the mig 29's fm is butchered, literally a f 4 can win a dogfight against it on per performance alone. If you want balance, they should revert the mig changes, buff the aoa on all mig 29's and then nerf the smt to account for the extra weight, because right now the f16 dogs anything it faces

@vascoiraola5209 I've heard from various places that the f 4 can, A. Almost out rate the mig 29 in a 2 circle and B. Can beat the mig 29 in a dogfight. I also haven't tried my 29 this update yet, but just going off of the videos I've watched and the very limited testing I've done in test flight, im going to be honest, the mig 29 looks like a glorified mig 21 at this point, that energy retention is fucking horrendous and an f 4 phantom shouldn't even have a chance to beat it, that's what the f 14, f 16 and eventually the f 15's job is, not an f 4

I think outside of a controlled enviroment and in an actual match, the AIM-9M can be almost impossible to flare, because you need it a lot of things in your favour for it to work. The "flare flower" only seems to work from far away and in a rear aspect, if it's coming from closer than 2.5km the INS will make it hit, you also need to be at your ideal manoeuvring speed to get out of the way after the seeker turns off (and that's not always possible, especially if you already used your energy to dodge another one), also if you evade too early the missile can regain lock and hit. And after all of that, even if the missile launched at an unfavourable angle, you spread your flares correctly and you are at the correct speed to maneuver in time, at the correct distance, the enemy can just launch another AIM-9M but now you don't have neither the speed or positioning to evade.
The R-73 is annoying because when it's launched at specific angles there's literally nothing you can do to flare it, but the checklist for evading it is a lot simpler in the situations where you can flare it.
I think these new IR missiles just show why we need smaller matchmakers, it's not like before where if 2 people where launching missiles at you flaring would work against both, now if two guys are shooting AIM-9Ms at you from slightly different directions you are dead, period.
I love how I did everything in this video right and the aim 9m doesn’t care.I cut afterburner and turn and dump flares and I still die I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong, do I to pull 12g and dump flares like wtf😂😂.
@@itsrass1378turning too much I think, it makes you too slow you only need to clear like a 30 degree arc and then leave that zone. The issue is there’s a only a second to do that to avoid the massive zone, second you see an aim9m flare once turn flare again and jink if need be. Theoretically you only need max 3 flares for the 9m whereas the 73 needs 5 minimum and much more though
I personally prefer greater distances in which markers show the specific variant of F-16. It might not be the most realistic, but it helps greatly with planning and positioning against specific types of missiles.
I literally just got into top tier with the Viggen and now I'm going back to 4.7 cause of this, love my subpar Swedish missiles
we just went from defeating missiles with 1 flare to just getting absolutly sniped by R73 and 9M

Honestly, both the R-73 and Aim-9M have their own strengths and weaknesses in terms of IRCCM. They just work differently. Good vid mat
Aim-9m are def meta while r-73 are not.

@alphawolf1786 R73 isn't really meta. Their performance is really good but only on people not paying attention. The AIM9Ms are impossible to avoid if fired at the correct distance and angle.

Real meta today is server latency, because if it appears at 1.5 km on your back when you already busy or lost energy, then nothing helps
I still find it odd the magic 2 is using nearly the same seeker as the r73 in game yet it being stated it is far superior over r73
i'm glad it recieved IRCCM at all, i was worried tey would "forgot" about it
The mechanics that the Magic 2's IRCCM works on aren't in the game yet, but I feel the devs are working on it.

Magic 2 was considered the best short range NATO missiles up to AIM 9X. The quadruple seeker was breakthrough

R-73s feel so unfair to fight. With the F-16ADF and A you only get 60 flares (less if running chaff, divided by two as they eject in pairs) so you have to spend half your flares on 1 missile while throwing your energy to the wind.

The follow up R-73 has you locked and cocked because you have half your flares left and you have way less energy.

Gotta say, this patch sucks. The nerf to the mig 29 fm straight up feels like I'm flying a mig 21, if you turn you instantly loose all your speed it feels like flying a brick. F16Cs with Aim 9ms are just dominating everyone. I haven't got the F16C and I don't really like American planes but I'd way rather have the aim 9m than the r73. R73 has crazy off bore sight but for me it seems like they just eat flares no matter what I do...
for some reason my aim 9M doesnt do anything anymore. just flies past. R73 also. shot from 2km and it just flies past the target. no matter what the aspect. feels broken. dont know if anyone else has this issue?
I dont know why, but when i Play SU-25t and fire one R73, one Flare is enough to counter the rocket.. may im to dump to use it right..

To me, the Aim9m is a radar missile that doesnt need the radar lock nor cares about ground clutter.
it's incorrect. R73 is overperforming as it is locking the fov to the center of the plane, when it should be locking to the rear.
Question : it is really useful to keep chaff in top tier ? I mean, keep chaffing against TWS/PD Radar are still relevant ?

it helps from 2sec to 0 before hit to confuse the seeker of the missile itself when you are 50-100m height, if you are 200+ it is worthless

The MiG might have a good missile but honestly feels horrible to fly with the F16 having a way better model and a missile similar to the R73 also Air RB is unplayable with the new weather
At the moment the roles have been flipped. Mig-29 used to have the best performance but not the best missiles. The F-16 had a particular way it wanted to fly too but had 9Ls which are rather consistent.
Now the F-16C has better performance and the 9Ms which are basically better 9Ls. The Mig-29SMT is now a missile boat that has some of the best IR missiles in the game
So if you’re not playing top tier US or USSR In air RB, probs best to avoid for a while 🤣😪
Question: did the aim 9m just get nerfed? I just tested it and from the rear the aim 9l is the better missle

no, its called progression in technology. jsut like how you had to learn to dodge sarhs, u gotta learn to dodge irccm missiles.
r27et and r27t are lethal from back 3kms/ish its impossible to dodge if enemy don't flare quickly
