i would recommend using tws on the mig29, or on any plane that can use it. it gives you important information when it comes to target prioritization WITHOUT letting the enemy know you are targeting them. also i would also always use the fuel tank. when you're on the deck, you use a ton of fuel with afterburner. getting up to speed and then zoom climbing should use up almost all the fuel in the tank anyways. weighing less on takeoff is kinda irrelevant when you can always just use afterburner when you want to shed weight, and the advantage of being lighter in a dogfight is lost if you're having to hold back on using your afterburner to not run out of fuel.
If you're struggling to figure out how to use the Radar Cue (the little selector line) this is for you. You need to first, go into your options and disabled the radar target selection thingy. Second you need to set the axis keybinds in your options. I have mine on my Arrow keys. Hopefully that helps. For the keybinds, make sure you DONT put relative control on and DONT set a keybind to enable and disable the cue.
@@roach3286 It’s the 2 lines on the radar scope you can hover over enemies you want to lock I think. It’s useful when you have a particular target you want to lock.
At 2:16 is the most valuable lesson of the video, all this time i only been using, on/off, and zoom for my radars, i was figuring out how the heck change locked targets without turning on and off the damn radar (thus locking targets safely)
MatAWG you may find this tip interesting. I just tried it after learning it from another UA-camr. It’s a way to mimic IRST with the R27er. Basically you lock the enemy, fire the R27, then almost immediately release your lock while maintaining soft-lock tracking with TWS. After a few seconds, the missile will be close enough that if you re-lock with a hard lock, it’ll find and hit the target. The purpose of releasing lock is that the enemy will likely not go evasive against your missile. When you re-lock a few seconds later and they go evasive, the missile will already be so close they won’t have enough time to dodge it.
@@joaopaulovianaladislau4105 IRST basically let’s you lock onto an enemy without making them aware that they are being locked-on to. If an enemy doesn’t know they’re locked onto, they won’t see a missile coming. So this method explained above makes the enemy aware of your lock when you first lock and fire the missile and at the end when you re-acquire the lock to guide the missile to the target once it’s close enough. At least until gaijin implements missile launch warning systems.

A suggestion I'd like to give out is take some time and watch Growling Sidewinder's (www.youtube.com/@GrowlingSidewinder ) videos, both for BVR and dogfight. The missiles may be different and the aircrafts may be more advanced, but most of the stuff you can see there can be modified and extrapolated for War Thunder. Also, as Mat mentioned, remember that as long as you stay low enough, RADAR missiles will not deliver. No matter how much it looks like it's guiding and it's gonna hit, if you commit to the ground the're gonna miss and hit the ground. This will only fail if the splash damage of the missile hitting the ground gives you significant enough damage, so be wary of that (although the vast majority of times this is only true for AIM-54s, which can be outmaneuvered or notched without too much struggle, and they're easy to recognize thanks to their extremely long burn time). As stated above, this only works for SARH and ARH missiles (at least in the current state of the game), so an IR guided missile such as an AIM-9 or an R-60 will still, most likely, deliver if you don't defend properly. Except for observing how the missile guides and the position of the shooter (e.g. a missile from 10 kms will almost 100% be radar guided, while one from less then a km will likely be an IR guided), you can not tell the difference unfortunately, so keep an eye out. Good luck out there, fellow pilots.
