I bet you could just call Mike or Courtney up and ask them to come on the show to be interviewed. They would probably do it. As for how they write, Michael first writes the music including drums and bass. Then Cort takes it and writes melodies and screams using word jibberish. Once she has a melody or phrasing she likes that's when she starts writing lyrics. That's how I understand it based on some older videos.

So... since most don't know this, Mike actually writes and plays/tracks all the instruments on every recording. Zev gets input and Josh has so far provided backing vocals (edit: sorry, he apparently also got credited for some bass work), but the vast majority of everything except Courtney's lyrics and melodies are Mike's.

True, but even Mike has said that he and Courtney really work together in matching the right tones and textures to compliment Courtney"s voice. Which was something they didn't do when they first formed SB. I also heard Courtney in an interview say that she always wanted to work with Mike musically, because she really respects him as a musician. Also, Mike does compose the tracks, but lets Zev tinker with the drum parts more now. Having said that, Mike is a brilliant composer.

@@jhamilton1007 Yeah. I was watching something yesterday about how they've changed the way they write. They now write together so Courtney is not just trying to fit her vocals into his music (TOOL still does it that way, mind you).

Zev has recorded drums on the last two EPs. Mike used to program them but AFAIK hasn’t actually played any live drums.

I could listen to a spiritbox song 1000% times and you always point out elements in the song that I never paid a attention too...great review !

Also, Choir Noir (they've covered and also recorded with Architects quite a bit) just released a cover of Spiritbox's Rule of Nines, and it's amazing!

There are a couple of songs on this EP that are 100 percent brutal and dark and they make my adrenaline rush and are two of the heaviest songs I've heard. I love them both. But this song is my favorite off the album. There's nothing flashy about it but there are so many little things going on in the mix that I can't get enough of. The fact that they went super fast paced with an ambient guitar solo hit my sweet spot. It reminded me some of the early 2000's Fear Factory. It still always is amazing to me how totally unique Courtney's vocals are in a seemingly not unique way. There are many vocalists with crazy talent that I love. Can go super high and are very impressive, but with Courtney is just hits me different.

This song is just a masterpiece of Courtney's vocals and the band.

Architects have a new song out - Seeing Red. They're basically calling out people for slating their change in sound over recent years. Definitely worth listening to ❤

Im not a professional but to have someone understand and be able to relay what is going on in the song Sonically and Dynamically. As soon as you mentioned the vocals playing into the music and vice versa I subscribed. Its such a small but meaningful part to music and I dont think people realize thats really why they get grabbed by a song.

Proof of what you’re describing in terms of writing a “good song” then doing what you want with it is when you strip down the song to an acoustic version it still has a huge impact on the listener… they’ve done this with Constance for example. Another recent example from a different band is False Providence by Monuments where they released an acoustic version

If you go back far enough on Mike's UA-cam channel I think during the pandemic you can find live streams of him writing songs and recording demos and you can tell some of them had parts that led to songs on Eternal Blue. Very interesting stuff.

You should react to, "Heavy Rain", by "Gh0st Kid" sometime! I'd feel that you'd like it given the message of the song! (The song is about domestic violence)
