Courtney explained the concept of the EP. It's one six part song about a character becoming self-aware, then seeing their fate, initially resisting it before accepting it. That is why every song transitions into the next and why the last song transitions into the first song on the EP... because the narrative is a loop.
I noticed that the end of Ultraviolet led back into Cellar Door the next day when I was editing haha very cool concept
The Void makes me giggle. It's the darkest song on the album. It sounds "happy." But it's pretty much about willingly falling into your grave because it's a place made for you and only you.

I loved your commentary on the EP. I lost my best friend of 39 years to cancer this past June and we had the same thoughts you did (@14:30) about Courtney finding her stage presence once they started their "Eternal Blue" tour. Now I hear their new music and know that he would have loved who they have become. Thank you for the genuine reaction. It means a lot since Spiritbox was unknowingly one of our last shows before he passed.

You've basically covered all the lyrical self-references, the only thing I'd like to add is that the topic of 'too close/too late' is present in every single song on the EP while others only appear occasionally (velvet sky, crimson key, thousand lifetimes, hourglass, etc).
Another fun thing to note is the moment in the second pre-chorus in Ultraviolet where Courtney sings about seeing the shining of the reflection of the crimson key, and when she turns towards the camera we can see an open door to the right with a bright red light shining through it. The open door itself could also be a reference to Too Close/Too Late.
Overall, Ultraviolet might be one of the most beautiful metal songs ever written, and there's so much going on in it, both musically and vocally. It sounds like there's a million vocal layers in the chorus, and coming up and recording all these parts must've taken a shitload of time lol

New sub here! Loved the video and your thoughts. Its wild to think how far theyve come in the short years. Her dance moves in UV reminded me of Belcarra and sparked that thought on how far theyve come as far as production wise and as performers, you love to see it.

@Reaper_Queen_Music yes, truly. Music is truly an immersive euphoric experience. When i was 4, a had a blind friend, my mom was cleaning for, put these big ol' head phones over my ears and he told me to close my eyes and really listen. He fiddled with the 90's stereo equalizers and shania twain sounded and felt as if she was in the room singing infront of me. I chase that high from music every time lol. I look forward to more music break downs with you! This is vibe, for sure!

Have you heard "A Gradual Decline In Morale" by Kim Dracula? Fantastic album. I discovered them when I saw Avenged Sevenfold and Kim Dracula opened and I went back and listened to the album and was blown away. I'd love to hear your take on it

E.P.: often 4-5 songs and L.P./Album: often 10-12 songs. What you said about the acknowledgement/acceptance of fear as well as transcending and growing, not only can you apply that statement to this E.P. but also to Spiritbox's career a whole. For me the transformation began with the Rotoscope E.P. and now it's come full circle and blossomed into something great and beautiful

I have a certain feeling that some of the lyrics lead into her feelings about being in the industry, like basically "this is what y'all wanted right" and like a feeling of keeping her ideas trapped incase it doesn't go well because all eyes are on her

Im pretty sure that the idea behind EP is so that as soon as you have a little bit of a creative material , which in this case was 6 songs you wouldnt have to sit on it and collect dust on it just because you dont have another 10 songs for a full album. That way you can release it and be done with it.

My least favorite videos they've done. Ultraviolet and Cellar Door were decent vids. They all looked great. The concepts just kinda fell flat. Especially the Angel Eyes one. But i LOVED the songs. And Courtney always slays.
Yea I think Cellar Door was sick, and Angel Eyes didn't have much going on but I do think it was cool for what it was.
Watch them all together in EP order. It's one story.
