This band is getting so much attention, it's insane. I remember when they couldn't even get a vinyl printed, because their following was so small with Mara Effect. Now they're taking over the world.
It really is crazy because I prefer their older sound - The Mara Effect is still my favorite song of theirs. So seeing them get all this attention when they simplified the music and went towards a more mainstream metalcore sound...I feel a little weird about it. On top of that, it makes me wish so many of my other favorite bands got more recognition. But hey, good for them regardless.
@@fuckegoist Do you end every comment with lol? Makes me not want to take you very seriously. Yes, I think there's a general style to their last several projects. You won't convince me that Ultraviolet and Belcarra aren't two distinct styles of metal.
They've cemented themselves as my current favorite newer band with their latest EP. Just a perfect mix of intricate musicianship, good writing, and personableness.
I've seen Spiritbox play three times already (twice in Connecticut and once in Boston), and honestly every time I see them play, the show is just better and better. They are such a fantastic band to listen to.
Their new EP the fear of fear Is top to bottom… PERFECTION It has an incredible blend of heavy and melodic songs, just really showing people their amazing talents and song writing ability. I highly recommend you go check it out and listen to each song, this band kicks ass 🤘🏻🤘🏻 They just finished their tour cycle, so it probably won’t be until late 2024… they are starting to write album #2 according to Mike and Courtney in a recent interview
They did a video for everything on the EP. The video for Ultraviolet (shot by a friend of mine) is insane. It was a continuous shot, and you’ll see the challenge of that when you watch. On top of the EP, they just did a collab with Megan Thee Stallion. 🤯
The entire new EP (The Fear of Fear) is so good. I think Angel Eyes is my favorite track. And last night Megan Thee Stallion released a rock re-mix of Cobra featuring Spiritbox, which is surprisingly fantastic.
I'm so excited that you got to this one! It's my fav off the new EP. It's actually a concept album too, I kinda would LOVE it if you did all 6 tracks back to back and gave your thoughts about the concept and sound of it all! My wife and I saw them earlier this year in Orlando and they were so fucking rad live! Loved this reaction!
Love Spiritbox. I really appreciate all the attention to detail they put into their music. I also agree about the vocals being louder in the mix, I always struggle a little bit to hear the lyrics.
Discovered and fell in love with Spiritbox 6 months ago, also fell in love with Jaded when it was released, it's clearly my favorite Spiritbox song, it has everything. Their EP is on repeat since the release, as Jaded is the second track I suggest you react to Cellar Door which is the first track then continue in the intended order 🙂 They produced a MV for every single track which really uses the fact it's an EP and not an album.
Jinjer! Also, Silent Planet released their album Superbloom at the same time as the Spiritbox EP, and it's easily my album of the year. So good. Garrett Russell is possibly the best lyricist out there right now. And the Slant Plant guys are seriously some of the best humans around.
100% agree with your commentary on Zev. He gives us just enough to show his skill but still perfectly fits into the arrangement. The mark of a real pro!
3:19 I think you articulated why I love modern rock and metal and have such appreciation for the amount of detail that is put into the instrumentation. Thank you for saying that
David, first of all, love all you do! Second, I wish I knew what that intro jam was. Chord progression sounded incredibly aligned with a metalcore song I wrote last year!!!
Another female led metal band with beautiful clean vocals is Ithaca. They put out an album last year “They Fear Us” that was my personal AOTY. Worth checking out for sure!
They have a European tour at the beginning of the year with nothing planned so far after that for now. Although they did mention there is possible tour they might hop on after that
I always describe metal to new people as Orchstral with distortion. Every piece of the song is written exactly how it needs to be written.. To most people its just mashing a keyboard, or that's how they hear it.. but its the exact opposite of that.
Sounds like you need to do another Jinjer song if you're forgetting their name! If you care about one random dude's favorite bands though, I want to recommend another one that deserves more attention. Tesseract, who I believe Courtney and Mike have actually referred to as an inspiration, is one of my favorite prog metal bands. They put out a fantastic album a couple months ago and have videos for several tracks from it. War of Being, The Grey, Sirens, Echoes...just pick one. There's also Legion, which is Daniel Tompkins' most impressive vocal performance...but I like people getting a frame of reference for the band before exposing them to a really important track.
You thought you could just throw some Reelin’ In the Years in the intro and we wouldn’t notice?! Also keep doing Spiritbox content, love seeing you break them down
That’s a great observation about the chord tones in the chorus. Courtney is heavily influenced by R&B and her favorite artist is Beyonce…I feel like this is a big part of what makes her vocal lines so unique in metal.
I have seen them live and they fucking blew me away. I love Courtney's energy, I mean the whole band is electric and maybe I'm biased cuz im in love with Courtney lmao
What a great insight once again! If you sometime have time of the day or spare time there is new album by Ren. One absolute stand out song is "Money Game part 3" which i think would give you some musical shivers down to spine! :)
I feel like us thinking we’re “not enough” largely comes from the world being not enough. There could be so much more good in the world if all of the people who suffer together, the majority, came together to create the best world possible. To end oppressive, exploitative, discriminatory systems that only benefit the few. We need to realise that together, we are more than enough.
I think most of the drums are actually programmed by Mike the guitarist, unfortunately. I've turned into one of those douchebags that got into Spiritbox at the end of 2019, have kinda moved on (into Jinjer, into Meshuggah) and keep grumbling "the earlier Spiritbox was better." I guess this is what being 44 is....!!
At 45, I don't know who I like more, Jinjer or Spiritbox. I like Jinjer because they are more raw? I guess less produced sounding, but I think that's what I love about Spiritbox. They draw from the pop influences and there's so much put into the mix. More atmospheric details to pick up on. My favorite parts of Spiritbox is Courtney's vocals and the (over) production, where my favorite parts of Jinjer are Tati's vocals and the insane musicianship of the band. Jinjer probably leads, but I have been on a Spiritbox kick lol
This song was nominated for a Grammy today - well deserved! Congrats to SB, they're incredible.
you should check the entire new EP
Хе хе хе)))))

@@darkphoenix2They simplified the music? Lol.
@@fuckegoist Compare a song like Bleach Bath to Hurt You
@@darkphoenix2 Both of my favorite songs by them. And still, you heard Rotoscope and TFOF EPs and thought they simplified their song production? Lol.

First of all, Reelin' in the Years. Second of all, what a cool track. I love it.
Yes!
They were announced for a grammy nomination today for this song!
Zev is a great drummer and he makes it look so easy. He's also not even 25 years old. Just imagine where he'll be talent wise in 5-10 years.
are you a drummer?
Spiritbox was here in Connecticut in September my oldest son and I went and saw them with Papa Roach. It was a killer show.
Been going to shows since 94… Spiritbox live is easily in my top 3 ever. Amazing live show quality.

amen to that, Angel Eyes caught me way off guard but I loved every second!

It’s a tough balance to strike for mixing engineers

Glad someone else is shouting out Slant Plant on here. We need some of Gar and the boys on here.
I caved in to the hype of superbloom and damn it didn’t disappoint
You owe us 2 DGD Reactions. "War Machine" and "The Ghost of Billy Royalton" PLEASE!!!
100% agree with your commentary on Zev. He gives us just enough to show his skill but still perfectly fits into the arrangement. The mark of a real pro!
My favorite Steely Dan song! Reelin' in the years
3:19 I think you articulated why I love modern rock and metal and have such appreciation for the amount of detail that is put into the instrumentation. Thank you for saying that
I've seen them 3 times live... and I'd see em another 100 =D
You just missed them when they came to the Toyota Oakdale theater in Wallingford! I live 20 minutes from there very fortunate they came so close
They just toured with Shinedown and Papa Roach and they played in the Northeast, so probably have to wait now till their next tour
Long time no see dad 👋
Love your reactions as always.
DAD!
I'm waiting for them to come to CT as well! Would be awesome see them live!
Thank you for covering this band once again!
David, first of all, love all you do! Second, I wish I knew what that intro jam was. Chord progression sounded incredibly aligned with a metalcore song I wrote last year!!!
Haha I just saw Spiritbox in the Northeast, in Boston... not sure if they'll be coming round here again for a bit
Crazy that all of the drums on this EP are midi
Kind of amazing
They JUST finished a US tour. They're in Europe next year so maybe late next year or the year after is when they'll do a US tour again.
Another female led metal band with beautiful clean vocals is Ithaca. They put out an album last year “They Fear Us” that was my personal AOTY. Worth checking out for sure!
Definitely need to check out their new EP and the "Rock Remix" they just did for Megan Thee Stallion's new single Cobra.
You gotta review there new ep !!!
They have a European tour at the beginning of the year with nothing planned so far after that for now. Although they did mention there is possible tour they might hop on after that

Theres always something kickass in the background usually kick ass lics but its not loud. You really need headphones to appreciate it.

Reeling in the yeeeaaaaarrrrsss.. good ol' Steely Dan

Courtney and mick write and record everything in the studio; so the drumming is mick going buckwild! He’s a truly amazing musician :)
We need a Cleaning out the shed react Of Machines - Becoming Closer To Closure
Of Machines was one of those bands that lead the way for post hardcore
I second this with an Underoath deep dive!
Like what u said about the drummer. Not playing with ego. He has great rhythm
Reelin' In The Years
I have seen them live and they fucking blew me away. I love Courtney's energy, I mean the whole band is electric and maybe I'm biased cuz im in love with Courtney lmao
Definitely agree with you on the vocals that could be a bit louder. Good call

You need to check out Antimatter by Silent Planet!
Dude just do a keyboard cover of this song! Think it will sound beautiful
Reelin' In the Years by Steely Dan ;)
Still waiting on Ren, and The Pretty Reckless ;);)

🤗
Yes!
You should check out GFM/Magdalene Rose. Maggie has an amazing metal scream and their music is great!
Megan the Stallion and Spiritbox just dropped a collab. It’s not for me, but you like genre blending so maybe check it out in your spare time.
Hi pls. check out Wildfire by Periphery , there is a cool breakdown there that you will absolutely ❤
you need to check out Allt the orphan breed if you want to get punched in the face haha
It's lack mentality what this song is about... Our human condition. It can be healed though
I thought you were a music teacher?
I am
And I write, record, tour…
Sux
Pls, don't pause music
Who are you telling me what to do…my wife?!
