- In this video I will walk you through the set up of the Creality K1 MAX high speed 3D printer including a slicer profile for PrusaSlicer. This printer requires very little in terms of assembly but I will show you how to get started with the K1 MAX and share with you what I was able to achieve in terms of print quality.
We will also look at Creality Print and slicer and do a head to head comparison between Prusaslicer and Creality Print.

Overall, I would recommend the Creality K1 MAX since it delivers on speed with the large build volume. It's been very reliable for me but I do hope Creality updates the web UI to the full Fluidd interface like on the Sonic Pad. I also hope that they can update the touchscreen interface to have live z adjust in a future firmware release.
I would also recommend this printer to anyone looking for a "out-of-the-box" solution for general use. I was even able to print PETG which can be a little tricky at times - but the Creality Print standard profile worked flawlessly on the first try and I did not need to do any tuning.
If you are new to 3D printing I still think you should have realistic expectations of the learning curve involved with the hobby. The machine works well out of the box but if you happen to run into issues you will likely get frustrated at first. Take a deep breath, stick with it and don't give up! It doesn't matter if you have a K1 MAX, Bambu Labs, or any other popular high speed printer of this era, eventually you will need to do some troubleshooting.

My biggest hope is for a newer type of printer material similar to binary compound epoxies that can be integrated with metallic and ceramic compounds. Eventually.

Hey bud great video and very informative, with regards to the lidar sensor i think youll find that it only works on the test lines before printing, the different lines are printed at different head pressures and feed speeds and then it will scan these and choose best setting or result to match the settings you have chosen for the print, looking at purchasing this machine as i feel it might actualy be the better option to the x1 carbon

You can flash pure Klipper to the K1 and K1 Max and then add Mainsail and Moonraker. Which will allow you to send prints from PrusaSlicer
Will Lidar still work with the native Klipper?
i think lidar changes the PA value, i have 0.04 in printer.cfg but it sets it to 0.046 (visible in fluid) ... maybe its just PA tuning for active config. not sure about flow, it was 100% as in filament settings. also it doesnt probe when lidar scans the print area. also i recommend using buildtak foil (3djake has creality version) on the back of the buildplate + 3d lack. you can turn off bed heater for pla/pla+/meta after first layer. saves 200-300 watts per printer which is significant - needs less than 100. initial layer 45°-50°C max, then its easy to remove. 3d lacks helps as a seperator so it doesnt stick too crazy.
ia it possible to use a glass bed on the k1 max ? to have that mirror finish
Micro Center had the K1 Max on sale for $699 and they had an open box at $629. I got the open box one, took it home and set it up using this video. Your review was what convinced me to buy it. Thanks for making such informative videos. Have you tried printing TPU on the K1 Max?
I spoke too soon. I printed a benchie and then moved on to another stl. When my print was 90% done I heard some horrible grinding. I looked and when the nozzle was moving in the Y axis it made a grinding noise. I even got a Key 2505 failure code. According to Creality, it’s either the X or Y motor connections not being plugged all the way or a board fan screw hitting the xy motors. Creality recommends taking a screw off the board fan but still had the same issue. I’m returning it today and just getting a new one

@@TechMaestro01 the replacement I got at micro center worked without the grinding issue. However, my K1 Max stopped extruding and it seems this is a common issue. So much so, Creality has a V2 of the extruder that I am now waiting to get from Creality.
What is the chart shown on the base just inside the door? My K1 Max does not have that. This is the best K1 Max video I have seen so far. Very informative.

i went to the website for the prusa profile. is the profile loaded automatically somehow? or do all the values have to be done manually? what came up was just a notepad.
If one were to sand and prime that flareon print could the surface quality compete with a resin print?
Thank you for the great info! How come the creality slicer program you install doesn't show the print bed topography? This is the first time i'm seeing that, I had no idea.
The slicer does, but it shows it you when you click on "device" at the top and have a device connected on your network. It won't show it to you in the section where you prepare the print
Leaving the first layer to the K1 Max and Prusa Slicer the bed adhesion is nonexistent. How do I adjust the Z-Offset for the K1-Max?
I am using the supplied build surfce with Magigoo bed adhesive.

I got it last week. was printing after 30 mins ( including creating account for CreatlityCloud). Its hooked to my lan, so network work right away and did the update.
However, I did not got the hot end ( 2:35). Is that normal?

Hello, I've just recently got a K1, it appears to be from a newer batch with the revised extruder. I wasn't super impressed with the Creality Print software, mainly with not being able to add support blockers. I tried your PrusaSlicer profile and noticed considerable wavy ringing just on the X axis, the Y axis didn't show any of it. I think you touched on this in your video and I was wondering if you'd have any suggestions. I plan on upgrading the firmware to get root access to add the full fluid interface to be able to run input shaper on each axis individually. I am hoping that will help but i'll have to do more testing to see. Thanks for the video, it was very informative and helped me with the decision to go ahead and get the K1. Keep up the great content!!!
Thanks for the comment! Yes I still haven't been able to figure out how the Creality software gets a much smoother result - no ringing with virtually all settings being the same. And as you said it's annoying that it is missing the more advanced features of PS. Have you tried rooting and doing the input shaping on each axis and checking those graphs yet?
Vibrations on the x axis seem very common. It's happening for me too. Creality seems to be saying it's a software bug and to just print faster for now.
Other issues is that the gantry isn't very straight. The belts aren't in line throughout the printer in most of these printers causing some vfa issues.
For now the best that I've found is to increase print speed to spread the vfa vibrations further out so they aren't so noticable and lowering temperatures helps too. Finding a good sweet spot takes time but it's a good fix for now without rebuilding your gantry.
Next upgrade I plan for is the microswiss flowtech hotend to prevent clogs and increase max volumetric flow so I can print higher speeds with petg which has a generally lower volumetric flow
So you had to do a lot of changes 🤔 does that mean that the k1 max came out shit I mean I'm no creality ass kisser. The profile they have for petg is like sticking to the bed like it's welded my plate is totally messy after a few prints trying to get it of the plate 80° is too hot my plate is making bubbles like the top surface is going to come of now I'm going to use your plate
@@louwrensburger1796 TPU needs to be printed on glue stick or hairspray, otherwise you will tear up your build plate it sticks too well
The k1 is an awesome printer.... if you can get a slicer to work for it.
The latest software update from Creality seems to suggest better integration with slicers outside of Creality Print, so we'll see!
just ordered the light and the spool holder... hopefully it comes in fast. That chamber is too dark.
Anything stopping me from mounting the 'Spool stand X' on the ceiling of a print encloser just above the printer?
Technically it is intended to sit on the table (or lid) in the two orientations I show. However, I recently added two mounting holes at the bottom so it can be screwed to a table or M4 screws can pass through and you can attach it to the top of extrusions with T nuts. Again, that would be in the upright orientation but you can use those holes to anchor to your ceiling (upside down). When you assemble it, there are two M4 thread forming screws holding the two big pieces together, since you will be mounting it "upside down" and the weight of the spool will now bear on those screws in the printed parts. Normally it just sits on the table and it's not a big deal but in your case consider using some some super glue in addition to the screws to bond the printed parts together. In the event that the screws ever failed Id hate to see the spool fall on your printer.
That "Super Deluxe Spool Holder" is a solution looking for a problem. It's also one that anyone with a 3d printer can produce themselves off Printables...

Just put one on order, kind of worried now. How’s it holding up? See quite a few negative comments.
Mine has still been fine - been using it regularly. I put a hardened nozzle on it and have cranked out some really nice CF-PETG prints. If you're printing larger items you'll want to preheat the bed and let it settle in for a few mins to minimize the warp. Other than that I've really had no major issues with it

Hey, does anyone of you guys know if issues with build plate leveling and lidar are fixed with new firmware or something?

They just released a new firmware and in the change notes it mentions the lidar.. here are the notes:
New Features:
Reworked laser lidar flow calibration feature (K1Max only), compatible with CrealityPrint, Prusa, and Orca slicers, supporting calibration for harder materials such as PLA/PETG/ABS.
Support for speed gear adjustment, with speed modes including Silent/Stable (50%)/Standard (100%)/High Speed (125%).
Added Expert Mode settings, allowing adjustments to flow and Z-axis offset during printing, and support for nozzle PID calibration.
Added ability to skip models.
Firmware Improvements:
Optimized filament runout detection logic.
Updated chassis fan logic; it no longer turns on by default when starting a print, but is now controlled by the chamber temperature (default 35°C).
Added Korean language to the firmware.
Added filament runout status display to the home page.
Bug Fixes:
Fixed an issue where the UI would frequently crash and cause a black screen reboot during model skip printing.

Is it true, the print head has play, because the steel rails wobble because the construction on the sides is not stable enough? How to fix this if true?
Mine doesn't have any play, not sure where you've seen that?
why cant i see the bed leveling info box on mine, i told it to slice and checked and doesnt show

That would be a recent upgrade if accurate.. everything I've seen to this point had brass from the factory

I’m been comparing the K1 max with the Bambu lab X1C.. the Bambu is like twice the price with the ams.. do you think it’s worth it?..

Haven't really tried TPU on this machine yet but I think it should be fine - just remember to print slower with TPU it's not really great at high speed printing on pretty much any machine. As for the comparison against bambu labs... the AMS is super cool but do you foresee yourself using it a lot? For me I could never justify the price because 99% of what I do are functional parts that would never require multi colors. If you're the type of person who is into fun models that require multi-color they probably have the best multi material / color system on the market right now ... so it would make sense. Otherwise if you compare the two machines without the AMS the price becomes a little closer and then I believe the next most important consideration is the size... K1 max has a bigger build volume and again, is this something that is a priority to you?

Ghosting issue? Bad input shaping leading to bad finish prints? Is your printer different? How did you solved it? Color change by layer using m600 in slicer is missing. If you print slower than 150mms not one good print. . Slicer tree supports are not very good.
I broke my ribbon cable so my screen dosent work cant even set it up :)
Price on your build plate is just too expensive. You can get a decent build plate for half of that cost
Thanks for the feedback. They're custom made to order with the logo so they're made in low volume - they're also not the cheap single sided Amazon ones or the cheap ones where the PEI coating sometimes peels. All of that contributes to the price, but I understand if you shop elsewhere. Thanks for checking it out!
how is it that every review has no issues but i had issues after issues. i dont know if i can trust all these reviews!
What kind of issues did you have and how much experience do you have with 3D printing? In some of my past videos I've talked about the learning curve + sometimes us reviewers over looking the fact that we have lots of experience so if something comes up its an easy small thing for us to fix / troubleshoot - but maybe for a beginner its a big deal. For example the two times I had to disassemble the extruder to unjam it was easy for me... 10 mins and it was done... but if you've never dealt with it before... the first time might take you an hour. I've read about all sorts of issues with the K series products and same with the Bambu labs stuff. Then you also get the hardcore fans of both who swear by each brand no matter what. It can be tough to figure out how to weigh everyone's experience. My suggestion would be to buy through a reseller with a great return policy like Amazon so if you get a dud you can return it easily.
Because they have ironed all the kinks out got mine yesterday and I'm completely new.
What issues? Mine has been as close to plug and play as a 3d printer can get. Assembled it, plugged it in, connected to wifi, ran through the calibration process and its been flawless ever since. I know they revised the print head right at release. There were issues with the original K1, I thought the max shipped with the fixes but maybe a few didnt
Ordered mine Friday. Showed up today and it's crushing it right out of the box. Have to admit I'm still a bit shocked as I type this.
My k1 max worked well for 4 days then crapped itself. Dug holes in the build plate after auto bed level, which damaged the hot end and nozzle then the main board died. Piece of cr@p.
you need to refine this profile for the Prusa slicer because the quality here is crap, e.g. k1
DO NOT BUY FROM CREALITY. I have had numerous issues with the K1 Max (their top of the line printer). I have 2. And I have the same issues with both printers. All apps and Firmware are up to date and the latest versions. I have never been able to see my cameras when viewing from the web version. When I messaged customer service their only solution was to restart my printers (didn't work) and reset my network (didn't work). When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told there was not one on duty and I would have to send an email to their general email to speak to a supervisor and they would get back to me the next day. 2 days later and I have still not heard anything. I tried contacting customer support again and received a message that there was no support on duty. I'm sitting here with $1800 worth of paper weights and not able to print anything. DO NOT BUY FROM CREALITY.
Still have this problem? My camera feed seems to work fine - could be a network issue maybe if it's affecting both of them? If it is in fact a network issue that would be a tough one for Creality support to diagnose for you. You mentioned that you can't print anything - the camera shouldn't cause that, what else is causing you not to be able to print?
Hopefully you heard back from them though - they usually respond within a reasonable amount of time, although I know it can be frustrating with a lot of these 3D printing companies because all of them have their support in China so it's basically one message back and forth per day at best.
