@@RoadsideRC I have been doing that with my rubber tires a whole lot of throttle and a bunch entry speed but I'm looking to get a little more control out of it if you were ever in the mood to check some of that out you can find me at Maximum RPM RC
I went with a 4PLS radio and 2104gf receiver on my RMX 2.0 after seeing this, and it's a MASSIVE upgrade being able to activate AVCS and fine tune the strength of it. You can also adjust the trigger travel, so I gave the throttle most of travel for more control and a quicker handbrake activation at the same time. Win-win. Something worth noting is that you were activating AVCS through channel 3/4 gain. Though it did feel much better when turned up to positive values, I'm not sure this is true AVCS mode. If you click right on the radio there's a second page of settings where the "Gyro Mix" option is located. This is where the true AVCS mode is activated and adjusted. AVCS set to 100 takes away nearly all of your input, so I keep it around 70 as I find it gives enough assist without taking away your inputs so you can adjust angle and transition more properly. SO smooth. Next on the list is a Futaba gyro to get rid of some steering twitches, and upgraded shocks as the standard MST's seems to have absolutely no life to them. They droop so much that you have to add a ton of preload to make up for it, and at that point they're very tight with almost no travel. Not looking forward to building the shocks, but the result should be great.
Glad the radio upgrade has helped so much!!! Agree 100% that the gyro should be next. I'll have to try your thoughts on AVCS settings - what you see here is directly from Futaba on how to set it...but maybe something has changed. Have fun!
@@RoadsideRC It may be a kind of redundant/convoluted setting where it's the same setting but in different places.. I was thinking channel 3/4 may just be the overall gain of the gyro while avcs is the gyro mix. I'll try it out more thoroughly next time, and thank you for the videos! I would not have took the plunge on the new radio and receiver without this one, and I'm so glad I did.
I am looking at the GYD450, and I just noticed that Futaba says, "Only for Futaba digital servo." Is this true, or just a disclaimer related to warranty claims or a gimmick to force you to buy a new servo as well? Just curious about your experience so I know what I am getting into before I make the jump. I do not want to waste any money, will I need to buy a Futaba Digital Servo also? I want to keep the hobby as cheap as I can, but still, have fun and benefit from others experience. I am new to drifting and your channel has been THE MOST HELPFUL resource. Your video helped me understand 4wheel drift and 2RWD drift driving. Got the thunder for drift bashing on the road, but saw the limitations like you warned. Then I made some sacrifices and got into 2RWD with the MST rmx2.0 rtr all from your videos; which was too much money, but made some sacrifices to get one. Learning as much as I can. Also thinking about the turnbuckle kit, because then tuning is easy, more range of adjustability. Any thoughts, comments, or concerns with my logic are greatly appreciated. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CHANNEL!!!!!!!!
Hi Phil, Glad to hear my videos have been helpful! The GYD450 does not like analog servos. As long as you use a quality digital servo (ReveD, AGFRC, Yokomo) you will be in good shape. Two issues with the turnbuckle kit: 1) the MST aluminum kit is really weak and prone to breakage, 2) the factory alignment does really well, and I find most new folks tend to screw things up more than improve things when they start messing with alignment. I have some other videos about the better things I recommend for the MST RTR. Clearly the controller, gyro, and servo are a big deal. You didn't mention a controller - so make sure you are selecting a good one. After that, I like to reduce weight. Cheapo carbon fiber chassis kit. Then, possibly the rear motor conversion. FYI - my car is still running the factory non-adjustable turnbuckles!
@@RoadsideRC Woo hoo so happy you mentioned this. Yes, the first thing I did was to get a new controller, I went with the Spectrum DX5C transmitter and Spektrum SPMSR315 receiver. I hadn't seen a video from you on that, but I haven't watched all your videos, well, haven't watched them yet. So I will look for that one, and in the meantime, I will just hope I did well or at least reasonable with the controller and receiver choice I made. I did do the cheapo carbon fiber chassis (THANKS FOR THAT REVIEW), moved the ESC to the rear mounted position, motor to the high position, and the servo to the further back location. Did DS Racing Finix HF-5 because I run on polished concrete in my carport, based on your tire video about P-Tile is how I made my decision. I was now looking at servo and gyro upgrade as all the other upgrades had been much cheaper than a gyro and digital servo (also thanks for the reply and answer; I was only considering buying a digital servo, and then saw the "Only for Futaba digital servo" and balked). I thought the rmx came with a digital servo, but when I set the stock gyro to digital it behaves BAD! Stock Gyro shipped in analog mode. So, I am doing things in reverse than you suggest but mostly for cost considerations. Becuase I am thinking the stock servo is not digital I now need to do the gyro and servo together, so I am glad you are sharing all this info and confirms my approach (even if backward from your suggestions). I have no track near me, so after doing fig 8's and your "C" course I have now been drawing a few diff tracks in my two-car carport to take it to the next level. Still start EVERY session with a few 8's about 20 C's and then start running the course of the month.
@@PhilMillerJustice Sounds like you have made some good progress! I have setup the DX5C on two different drift cars. Unfortunately, I did not like it on either car. Something about the Spektrum electronics and drift stuff. It just feels "clunky" like it isn't smoothly talking to each other. I hope youbhave better results.
I have the MST RMX 2.0, Very happy with my 2.0…I am considering buying new Reciever and Gyro… I’ve seen Drifters at the track Drift In a slower speed than my 2.0 to be able to Tandem Drift…My 2.0 speed in General is pretty fast when drifting…Do they have a slower Motor To be able Tandem Drift, or is that also a setting in an upgraded Reciever…?
The most common item here is tires. Typically at a track, there will be a "spec tire" that everyone runs. If you RMX 2.0 was much faster, I guarantee it is a tire difference. Get on the same tires as everyone else and you will see a big change.
Necessary = nothing! It will drift well directly out of the box. The gyro and controller I recommend in this video make a large difference in performance alone. After that, the turnbuckle upgrade is nice for tweaking the suspension, but is certainly not necessary. After that, you may want to upgrade the servo, ESC, and motor at some point. It all just depends on how serious you want to be with it.

Hi Troy at the end I bought the 3pv .I believe a lot of people bought the 3pv because of its price .We would be very happy if you review as you did on the 4pl your videos are excellent and very helpful Thank you very much 🙏
Yes! There are little potentiometers on the gyro itself - however the control in that manner is very rough. Really hard to get right. Still - better than nothing!
Hey. Is it only Futuba transmitters you can connect to the Gyd550? Just bought one and I cant use the stock transmitter, And thinking the T4px is a little expensive, So was hoping you knew about a "Cheaper" alternative?
I don't have enough personal experience with the GYD550 to give you a full answer. My understanding is the GYD550 will work with most drift-compatible controllers, however you really get the full functionality from a higher-end Futaba controller.
I'm picking up two of the GYD450s, but is there a more budget friendly controller with the capabilities of the 4pl or 4pm so that I can get the full use out of the gyro? I have to be a bit more budget minded since I'm building 2 cars so that my brother and I can both play. Perhaps a 3 channel controller since there isn't really a need for the 4th channel.
My understanding the 550 has a bunch of additional features, especially if you have a higher-end Futaba controller like the 7px. One guy in our group has it and swears by it...but he has the 7pxr
I am in Australia. I just had a look online at ebay and a few hobby shops. It seems that that radio is discontinued. Do you know of another Futaba model that has those same features at a reasonable price. Thanks again for all your help.

Can you give me a hand with that please. I have a YD2-s everything‘s already set built it up and wanted to know about utilizing the spectrum transmitter that I have right now. Thank you very much I like the info that you gave about that MST just wanted to know about the Yokokmo YD2-s carbon fiber chassis.
Hi Ron, I personally have not had great luck with the Spektrum controllers and drifting. You don't mention which specific one though. Are you talking about using the built-in AVCS in the Spektrum receiver?
Thank you very much for letting me know about the ABC S I was also looking at one of your sites where I seen you were talking about that as well too. Your videos are giving a lot of information to me I was about to ditch my spectrum DX five pro but now I’ve gotten things working now I just dial everything in so the way it works to the driving that I’m giving the car once again very informative thank you very much for even responding back to me I appreciate that great deal speak to you soon again. I’m a keep looking at your shows thank you
It does not need to be a Futaba receiver. With the GT3, you may not be able to trigger the AVCS mode that really unlocks a lot of potential for this gyro.
@@RoadsideRC I want to upgrade to the 4PX aswell as i found a great offer. I´m getting the GYD450 aswell. Do you recommend the futaba 4PX or should i get the T4PM? Can i still change the same gyro settings as in the video with the 4PX?
Hi from Australia. I have a couple quick questions if you could help me out. I purchased a mst rtr rmx2.0 from America as was cheaper than purchasing it in and while I'm waiting for it to arrive I've been watching your videos. So my question is can you run the older futaba 3pv transmitter with a futaba r2104gf receiver and a newer futaba 550 gyro? I have noticed that some receivers will need to run with a futaba servo. I'm starting our and don't want to outlay big $ and have to replace everything to run this setup. I would prefer I purchase these items from aus as the freight from America takes over 4 weeks. Any help would be great
Two issues: 1) the GYD550 is very complicated to tune and needs a much better controller to get the best performance. I would recommend purchasing the new GYD470 instead. 2) Almost every gyro upgrade will need a digital servo. Plan to get one, like the ReveD RS-ST. The digital servo does not need to be a Futaba, just make sure it is digital.
Can you run a aftermarket gyro like yokomo drift gyro v4 and not change anything else like servo etc ? Seen in your other video you tested one. And it has the different steering options on the actual gyro
@Curtis B Short answer: no. You will need to also change the controller and servo. Long answer: yes. You can swap in a new gyro only. However you will have limited functionality without a better controller. You won't really get the full benefit from it. Plus, most gyros require a digital servo, and act funny with the stock servo. Again, you can try, but just be prepared to get the servo quickly, at minimum.
I have not had good luck with Spektrum electronics and drift cars. They always 'work", but leave a gap in how it communicates with the drift electronics.
If you dont mind sharing what magnetic mount are you using. I just picked up the MST rmx 2.0 rtr Mbz AMG version and trying to find a way to not drill a hole for the body.
thanks for all the info, I would like to ask if the flysky gt5 would work for a drift car? I'm currently building a rock crawler and was planning on getting the Gt5 for it, but I would like to build a drift car afterwards and wanted to know if same controller would work. thanks for any help you can provide.
There is a local guy that has one. Yes - it does help to control the gyro - I believe he used channel 5 for it. However, it will not allow you to run the Futaba gyro in that slow-return, AVCS mode that really helps. Still - if you already have the controller, it will get you up and running!

This is so random, but how did you get the 4pls to bind with the r2104gf? I'm having trouble getting mine to read the receiver @SuperDero666
Also, great use of the scientific method in your testing!
Hi Phil,
Glad to hear my videos have been helpful!
@@RoadsideRC and again and again and again Thank you for sharing!
Hi can you list all the necessary upgrades for the MST RMX 2.0, I recently purchased one and waiting for it in the mail.
Thanks
Necessary = nothing! It will drift well directly out of the box.
The gyro and controller I recommend in this video make a large difference in performance alone.
After that, the turnbuckle upgrade is nice for tweaking the suspension, but is certainly not necessary.
After that, you may want to upgrade the servo, ESC, and motor at some point.
It all just depends on how serious you want to be with it.

Hi Man Excellent videos .One question .Are you sure the Futaba 3PV remote does not have this option. Thank you very much for the answer
It does! Since I filmed this video, we have been able to setup the Futaba 3PV to trigger AVCS mode. It works!
Excellent thanks for the answer. Do you recommend the futaba 3pv?
Yes!
Hi Troy at the end I bought the 3pv .I believe a lot of people bought the 3pv because of its price .We would be very happy if you review as you did on the 4pl your videos are excellent and very helpful Thank you very much 🙏
Great!
I think you will enjoy the 3PV.
I agree - a video on it should be a good idea. I just need to get one!
I just got one what exactly does this mean here (Newly designed rear spur-gear-driving the gearbox is able to switch the drive mode for RMX and RRX.)
You can swap the motor position from mid (m) to rear (r) to change the weight distribution.
Do you need to upgrade the receiver too with the new gyro and transmitter?
Yes. Usually the controller will come with a new receiver.
Is there any way of controlling the gyro without getting a new transmitter and receiver, like is there a switch on the gyro itself? Many thanks!
@@RoadsideRC Thank you 👍 i just got to save op and buy the Futuba T4pm i think 😉

Any help would be great
Two issues:
1) the GYD550 is very complicated to tune and needs a much better controller to get the best performance. I would recommend purchasing the new GYD470 instead.
2) Almost every gyro upgrade will need a digital servo. Plan to get one, like the ReveD RS-ST. The digital servo does not need to be a Futaba, just make sure it is digital.
Thanks heaps for the information. I heard you mention in the video that the 3pv doesn't have this feature is this correct ?
@Curtis B the 3PV is not good enough for the GYD550, but is an OK controller for drifting with other gyros.
Is the 4PM radio worth keeping or should I upgrade?
4PM is GREAT!
@@RoadsideRC thanks!
As a Spektrum DX5 user would there be any risk of glitching if I swapped over the gyro to the Futaba? Or would it be fine?
I have not had good luck with Spektrum electronics and drift cars. They always 'work", but leave a gap in how it communicates with the drift electronics.
