I like how he looks at the portrait of Elizabeth as he pours the drink, as if to remind himself to keep his cool and not lose himself emotionally.
Funny that they are both right. His traumas affected him, and this made him No different than the other ones. All people are affected by their childhood

The way he acknowledges his own error of vanity in here is powerful, all while struggling to let himself be portrayed as victimised or his loved ones be criticised.
unfortunately, it wasn’t an error of vanity. it was an error of lust. he was thinking about the nice little golden fish he was going to catch.
I usually take the events portrayed w a grain of salt, embellishment does happen, but I was impressed by how well Prince Philip navigated a lot of the loaded questions and landmines the interviewer threw at him. Then again considering its Matt Smith I shouldn't be surprised how well he acted through a stressful and tense scene like this. A lesser man would've blown up at how many raw nerves were poked at

Ok, he didn't outright blow up. But he wasn't quite composed either and foolish to take the interview. I wasn't that impressed.
Prince Philip was a good man and he didn't deserve to have his boundaries pushed like that. I have had some quite harsh family issues myselft which I wont metion for privicy and as a brit who speak fulent Germany I know how he feels. May he rest in peace ❤🇬🇧
Talking of family issues, my sister and I have had a truckload kept from us. It always starts when we find out we were each given a different story, then piece together how both stories could be both true, then add in other things mentioned by relatives or family friends. It's quite astounding when we finally work out a few things or a family friend tells us something that is the key to solving it. Always my mother's side though. My dads side just has eccentric stories involving wealth.

Poor Philip seemed to think his childhood was normal! And was in complete denial about his parents playing an active role in his life when they clearly didn’t. No wonder Philip had anger problems with his ‘just get on with it’ attitude. He never addressed his traumas of not having his parents around and losing his favourite sister in a plane crash. So no wonder he was so famously bad tempered.
Tbf, his childhood was normal, if in an extra-ordinary way. The "just get on with it’ attitude" is very much one that most service members develop, even if they were in fact the lazy person. His was typically annoyed at bad questions, that have been addressed scores or more before, or are just dumb.
This man gave up everything for the Queen and fought for us and our country, I hope this conversation never really happened.
Phillip concerned with the impropriety of his personal views being made known? Well, that position certainly changed, with the passage of time. One of my favourite gaffes of his, was when he asked a Scottish driving instructor how they kept the locals sober, long enough, to pass the test. He got admonished more than once, by the Queen, for his infamous statements, in later life.

Absurd dialogue. The word ‘trauma’ was not used in that kind of context in the 1950s/ 60s. It’s use here is much more recent; 21st Century
Yes, you're right, up to a point. Trauma was in use, but perhaps wound, hurt, anguish, or damage would have been more 'period' specific and made the point far better.
How do you know it wasn’t used? Were you even alive then?
@@startracker5895 no, I wasn't but my father was - he even knew Princess Margaret and I don't think he ever uttered the word trauma even when talking about his experiences in WW2. Though it may have been used in professional psychological circles its only been a common word in the UK in the past 10/15 years. It wasn't used when I studied psychology at school 30 years ago.
@@TheDavidfallon but she's not referring to physical trauma. She's talking about emotional or psychological trauma. Trauma wasn't even used after WW2 to describe terrible events and PTSD, or shell shock as it was called then.

Glad to see Philip essentially get shut down, at first he thinks it's going to be an easy score, but then finds out she had claws. Glad she deflated his sense of self entitlement.
She asked loaded questions about his childhood and the trauma he faced. That's hardly a good interview, nor poking at entitlement. He believes he had a normal childhood, as another commenter put above.
@@potato3996 It is poking at entitlement. Anyone with half a brain understands why he gave her an interview. He hadn't given anyone else on the tour a one on one interview. He thought it just be a matter of a couple of drinks, and he'd get what he wanted. That's entitlement.

Phillip came across as very self important and obnoxious in season 1.
