My guess for the Ariados entries contradicting is that it implies it makes multiple nests but never makes said any of those nests a permanent home, meaning it kinda leaves behind its threads everywhere
For me it was the thought that maybe ariodos isn't picky to where it makes its nest say in a tree or cave maybe even on a rock face it'll just make a nest anywhere
I thought it was because they always imply the different versions are very similar parallel universes (ie two whole different fruit themed schools exist in the "same" region) so logically some of the mons, no matter how similar, would act bit differently.. like the Paradox mons? In their "home" game we have actual info and confirmed sightings while in the opposing version it is more like "these are made up things that somehow exist" without much more info
23:14 I think the actual combination that forms "Syrpent" is Syrup + Serpent, seeing one of its abilities is called Supersweet Syrup, i think that would make more sense then Serpent + Wyrm, although, it could be Serpent + Wyrm + Syrup.
Probably. Its German entry calls them "Schlangel", with "Schlange" meaning "snake", and the "-l" at the end probably coming from "Apfel", the German word for apple, since that word is also part of all the Applin-lines' names, so the "Syr" coming from syrup is probably more likely than the y from wyrm. Also, its Japanese name "Kamitsu-Orochi" comes from the Japanese word for flower-nectar, so the syrup-aspect is clearly important to it.
I love the hitmontop dex entry about its horn constantly growing, cuz it implies that the growing prevents the horn from being permanently ruined by hitmontop spinning on it. Like the teeth of a beaver Also “syrpent” is a pun on syrup, cuz its apple is made of syrup
This also means that a hitmontop that doesn’t or can’t spin for some reason will have a comically large horn, as he notes, also similar to animals with continuously growing teeth/horns that can’t reduce their size through use
For Tentacruel... I assume that each of those "eight" tentacles is, in fact, ten smaller tentacles all coiled together so they look like one, and when it goes to catch something, it uncoils them to catch things.
@@leonardolonghi3472 You mean translucent? You can still see translucent things, though. They are just harder to see. Transparent is probably what you actially meant... but biologically, that wouldn't make sense. No, the coiled tentacles or having them all up in tentacruel's bell makes the most sense.
@@RenAsterion yeah, that one, I misspelled translucent or transparent, the point stays the same, the artists only draw that many details, so I can see them saying "you see the 8 big ones, the other 72 can be barely seen unless you're face-to-face". they're basically water bubbles, can't be easy to see water lines in more water
Saw it mentioned elsewhere that Terapagos’ stellar form is a reference to the term “Turtles all the way down”, which is referencing the fact some ancient civilizations thought the world was on the back of a giant turtle- Which was supported on the back of another turtle, and that one was on the back of another turtle, and so on. It’s a neat idea, not sure if its true, but it makes some sense with its pokedex entry with that knowledge.
I believe you’re half-right. Certain civilizations did believe that the world was supported by a turtle in some way (it varies between cultures). The phrase “turtles all the way down” (which I’m pretty sure is exactly what stellar form Terapagos is referencing) is an expression of an infinite regress problem. Basically, if one were to ask why the world isn’t in free fall, another could posit that the world is on the back of a turtle, but to explain why that turtle isn’t also in free fall, one could use the same argument and say there’s another even larger turtle supporting the smaller one, and this could go on infinitely. The problem with infinite regress arguments is that they can end up being unhelpful and explaining nothing (or at least fail to provide a global explanation that explains everything cleanly), which can result in conclusions that are self-contradictory or logically unacceptable, which is akin to the definition of a paradox. Perhaps that’s why Terapagos’ time shenanigans of bringing the professor to Kitakami from the past leads to the discovery of Paradox Pokemon. Both paradoxes and infinite regress arguments can be forms of incoherent logic, tying Terapagos into the whole Paradox Pokémon plot line.
For Minior, I think the Violet entry is kinda explainable via its Moon entry: "If its core stays exposed, it will soon die off. It's possible that it may survive if it's put into a Poké Ball quickly enough." (Source: Bulbapedia)
One dex entry I loved was Smeargle's. It says that when it reaches adulthood, others of it's kind would leave paw prints on it's back. It is just so cute.
In mystery dungeon rescue team there is a small scene/quest with smeargles.... one of them runs away from the pack because it did not want paw prints everywhere
I always thought that tentacruel having 80 tentacles would work if each visible tentacle was made out of ten tentacles each, and they’ve basically been so clumped together for dexterity’s sake that eventually they just fuse together.
Where is the BB Academy? Unova What is Unova based on? New York What is a nickname for the city of New york? *The Big Apple!!* And this connection to Unova stretches back to Dipplin! Candy Apples are an American delicacy, invented by an american. its appearance in Kitikami is because fall festivals sell them a lot. Their Shinies look like Caramel Apples
18:19 Fun fact on symbiosis: Shellder and Slowbro counts as parasitism. Mike was only focusing on mutual symbiosis. Symbiosis is when two organisms closely interact with each other, but that doesn't necessarily mean they both have to benefit.
@@radosx1418since the dex entries of paradox pokemon on the game they came from also just say they resemble creatures/objects previously given the same name in that version’s expedition journal (the Scarlet/Violet book) (though perhaps notably, the paradox legendary trips have dex entries that don’t follow this trend 0_0), it’s easier to assume that it’s correct identification because of the similar wording that calls out only a resemblance.
My guess for the "Ariados contradiction" is that Ariados only makes temporary nests so it uses that "special thread" to find it's way back because it makes soo many nests it can't memorise every location. Fun Fact: It's Scarlet entry is a reference to Ariadne's thread from the Greek myth of the Minotaur, she was the daughter of King Minos and gave Theseus a spool of thread so he could leave a trail to escape from the labyrinth after slaying the Minotaur, Ariados is also partially named after Ariadne. Also I'm pretty sure Syrpent is a combination of syrup and serpent not serpent and wyrm.
For the Hitmontop one, I think they wear down the horn on their heads by doing their regular spinning motion. This serves as a method of battling as well as to wear down the horns so they would not overgrow, much like how cats scratch things with their claws to sharpen/wear them down or with most rodents with their big incisors.
the bird connection with Shiftry is because he's based off a tengu which are humanoid bird yokai that live in mountains their especially characterized by their long noses sometimes in the form of a bird's beak and holding fans
Part of me wonders what is considered "paranormal" or "dubious" in the Pokemon world. Like, in a world where ghosts as well as people who can see them, psychics (both Pokemon and people), fairies and effectively magic, time travel, teleportation, aliens and interdimensional beings, interdimensional travel, bringing fossils back to life (which is effectively both cloning and bringing the dead back to life), the gods being real, and artificial intelligence are all as common as dirt and knowledge of them is pretty openly shared, like where is the line drawn?

I love how they basically say “Yeah Cramorant is a dumb bird but as soon as gets into battle it’s IQ is higher than Alakazam”, that actually makes sense as to why the Gulping Dex says it can’t swallow Pikachu and won’t let go but in battle it dives to grab a Pikachu and spits it out as a projectile.
The minior dex entries remind me of the Sun and Moon anime, where we watch as the gang befriend a minior, ...only to watch it and the others nearby fade away into stardust. Sun and Moon is very lighthearted most of the time, letting stuff like that gut-punch you out of nowhere.
I think I finally understand the speed stat, it’s a combination of the pokemons speed and reaction time, vikavolt has a poor reaction time so the fast pokemon has a lower speed stat, dodrio is slower but a third brain lets it react faster
Or maybe its the speed of them performing the attack for example: ones like vikavolt need to prepare more before attacking while other like infernape need less time preparing an attack. Also regi-elecki attacks immediately without question tbh.
Polchageist is formed from a teamaker's regret, similarly to the ruinic legendaries. Polchageist is regret, Chi Yu is envy, Chien Pao is hatred, Wo Chien is grudge, and Ting Lu is fear. They are also all linked to and object; Polchageist is a cup, Chien Pao is a sword, Wo Chien is a tablet, Ting Lu is a vessel, and Chi Yu is some beads.
Surprised you didn’t include Charcadet’s evolutions, mostly Ceruledge. It’s implied to have most likely formed from classic ghost unfinished business, though I personally find it more interesting to interpret it as specifically a lingering sense of failure on part of the person who died before completing their mission. Pairing that idea with the grudge it holds toward the living(which js mentioned in Bitter Blade’s move description) also makes it even more of a foil to Armarouge; both carry armor from people who have long since passed on, yet while Armarouge is known for its loyalty and capabilities, Ceruledge is defined more by the failure and early death of someone else than its own attributes. Can’t imagine anyone would be happy in that situation. I suppose in the format of your comment, Ceruledge could be seen as representing unfulfillment and bitterness, and is bound to a suit of armor. Armarouge, in turn, could represent contentedness, or even inner peace, also bound to a suit of armor, or possibly a funeral urn, as the armor resembles one in some of its animations. Personally I just think the duality of their dex entries and signature move descriptions is kinda funny. “This is a certified Friend and they can use their psychic powers to use their armor like a cannon, isn’t that fucking sick?” “This armor belonged to someone who died before completing their mission, and is steeped in grudges as a result. Huh? What about the Pokémon? Uhhh… Well, it’s got sword arms, and uh… Oh, and it’s really bitter toward the living. No idea why that could be though we’ve mostly just researched the owner of the armor and what they didn’t accomplish”
Actually I think the phantump’s scarlet entry is like the story of Buddha when a woman whose child had died went to him and asked if he could revive her son but he said he needed seeds from a household were no one had died which was basically impossible as all the families had a least 1 person who had died. It’s a nice story in detail you can read it on google.
I believe the word 'Syrpent' in Hydrapple's dex entry is definitely referencing 'Serpent + Wyrm', but also 'Syrup' because of the whole candy apple theme.
Corphish seems to be based on the Signal Crayfish, a species native to the Pacific Northwest region in North America. They have been introduced across the world as a food species, where they have become quite invasive and kill off native species (including other native crayfish). The invasions are particularly bad in Japan and western Europe, but Ontario and southern California have them as well.
cultural note: despite the localized name, lombre is actually inspired by the kappa, a yokai that lives on rivers they're also called "river children" hence dex entries saying it looks like a child or that it was a child.
The reason Dodrio is stated to be slower than Doduo is because previous entries for the two had put Doduo’s top running speed at 50 mph, but Dodrio’s at 40 mph.
I'm still baffled that we now know that Dodrio has 3 hearts and 3 sets of lungs, one per head. Even if the Dodrio line are basically mutated to have multiple heads, how the crap does 3 hearts and 3 sets of lungs in one body work!?
It's never been confirmed, but it's pretty clear that the speed stat refers to effective combat speed, not top movement speed. The Pokemon world is weird, but I don't think that anything with a speed stat over 100 is running around at mach speeds.
@@peternguyen7530One body can accomodate multiple hearts and lungs, if it has the space, and for conjoint twins/triplets(in this case), with some malformation it is posible and likely that they will have multiple of the most vital organs, and because of that sometimes one of the conjoint twins can die before the others and it's posible to sergically remove the pre dominant twins at an early age, but if the dominant twin were to die for some reason, the others will die also. Atleast that's what I know about conjoint twins, but do take this with a grain of salt from a physics major. As far as dodrio goes, I think it does have the space for the specified organs. Also there was a irl case where a conjoint twin had two sets of everything except a body (that is head, hands, legs, hearts, not lungs), but they didn't survive for long. Try not to think about any weird imagery, and have a good day.
Fun fact: Hydrapple's spanish Dex entry (at least Violet's) tells us the name of the wyrms inside the apple. They are called Viborappli. A mix between Vibora, which is a way to say snake in spanish and you can probably figure out what the appli is for
Man, and here I thought Minior's entry in Violet for the core form was kinda cute and informative. "It feeds on dust in the atmosphere. The color of its core is said to be determined by the composition of the dust it eats." Which is not only a fun fact, but actually true to the game since different color cores can be found in different locations on the map. ❤🧡💛💚💙 💜🖤
beeg Minior fan here, but I def caught 6\7 forms just in the chargestone cave. And saw my Pokedex update while auto battling them looking for a shiny (indicating the last form). My last one was the Blue, but I found much, much more orange and yellow in the cave and not as much blue/indigo\green as I'd think. I can agree the colours may be favoured in certain areas, but I'm sure all of them are available everywhere with certain preference.
Fun fact! The dex entry for Lombre is meant to mirror the Japanese story of the Kappa or “river child” it’s a old story warning children not to wonder near rivers or ponds in fear of being drowned

My personal theory for Tentacruel's 80 Tentacles is that when he attacks and the Tentacles extend towards their opponent the ends continuously split into 2 ends until it reaches 80 Tentacles, kind of like how a hydra grows heads.
I thought the tentacles hide somewhere in its body. So that whenever a Tentacruel’s tentacle gets chopped off one of the tentacles would grow back in its place. Like how a hydra would regrow its heads. The tentacles could be stored in the center mass like the above comment said. ⬆️
@@creativeprovocateur001my thought is that maybe translations are a bit off and it doesn't mean tentacles persay rather stingers(yes jellyfish have thousands) so much like tentacles can grab things so can stingers with jellyfish and the purpose in translation is just a bit weird
Small correction. Wyrm is the word for a legless dragon, not just an old word for a dragon. That's why Applin and Dipplin are dragon types, as they are wyrms, legless dragons, which look like worms, hence they are inside of an apple
I mean he’s not wrong it is an old word for dragon. But yes the modern term is used for legless dragons and thus the funny worm in apple becomes wyrm in apple
The practice of categorizing dragons into different types based on morphology with specific names for each one has zero historical basis. It's just a thing made up by super nerds pretending to be smart. Wyrm is just an old word for dragon.
I'm under the impression Ariados'es dex entry is essentially saying it has no specific preference of nesting area (ie. Prefers up in Tree's or in burrows) but once it decides on a nest it never loses track of it with a thread leading it back .
Yeah. I believe that, since a Hitmontop sees its own horn as a vital part of its body, then it must sand it out often, like how Rattata has to gnaw at things to keep their teeth short.
10:30 Phantump has the Ability Natural Cure, which cures the non-volatile status condition (such as Poison, Burn or Paralysis) when it switches out. I believe that the dex entry here is directly alluding to such an Ability.
The mucus for water shuriken may be used to keep the stars in form like the balloons of Drizzile. Sure, the water may be compressed, but have you tried to hold water?
It makes me so happy to see the yokai-based Mons like Lombre and Shiftry getting attention!! Shiftry is based off one of my absolute favorite yokai, and it's so freaking cool to me that they incorporated that into these dex entries. Thank you so much for the great content!!
For the Ariados entries, it makes sense that they need to keep track of their nest every time they relocate, that's why they use their threads to find it more easily
25:52 lots of semi-acuatic life-forms secrete hydrophobic mucus like ducks and some spiders to keep water out, dewpider evolution line shows that in the pokemon universe sometimes does things backwards, so both the x entry and this one can still work, greninja compresses the water then surrounds it with the mucus on its thighs to form the shuriken shape.
The Ariados entry talking about the thread leading back to its nest is actually a reference to Ariadne of Greek mythology. Notably, before Theseus entered the Labyrinth to kill the Minotaur, she gave him some thread so that he may trail it behind him and then use it to find his way back to her. Likewise, following the thread of an Ariados leads directly back to its nest, somewhere safe. Even looking at Ariados's name, very clear Ariadne connection
The two ariados entries don't necessarily contradict eachother. The thread likely leads back to the nest it was born in, and it attempts to leave the nest and never follows it's thread. If the thread leads back to it's birthplace, than it could still never nest in one spot, making the entries go hand-in-hand.
@@RennHans It may not be a choice. It could just be a thread that is always being excreted and sticks to the nest, and thanks to Ariados' sun entry, we know that the string might be strong enough to stay up forever. A baby spinerak might imidietly run away when born, as the line is based off of the joro spider, and female joro spiders often eat there mates and children, and do to the lazy nature of the pokemon, the mother might not follow the strand.
On the Rillaboom one, “discord” is also a play on words because that’s the opposite of harmony when referring to sound. So basically really bad music but can also be used in general to describe riling up trouble or chaos.
I like both of Poochyena dex entries Scarlet bares its large fangs and barks vigorously to try to intimidate opponents, but this is actually a manifestation of its cowardly nature. Violet Poochyena pursue their prey in packs. Once the prey is exhausted, the pack finishes it off. But sometimes the prey retaliates, and the pack flees.
18:45 Something neat to mention, is that this effect is explored in the Pokémon TCG, where it has an ability to either heal or damage one of your Pokémon, depending on the result of a coin flip!
These type of videos are my absolute favorite, it’s so simple cause it’s just dex entries but I LOVE knowing more about the Pokémon we use on a daily basis
17:48 One of the types of symbiotic relationships is parasitism, which is where one animal is benefited from it and the other is harmed from, in slowbro's dex entry the shellder would be the one being benefited from it and the slowpoke would be harmed from it so it would just be a symbiotic relationship
Himnotop’s horn growing continuously makes sense, given it must be wearing down its horn by spinning quite often. Its similar to a rodent’s teeth, which continue to grow so rodents are able to chew through things without their teeth being worn down.
I think the violet ariados entry implies more to each individual ariados having an unspecific location for its nest. Makes more sense since I can see it being territorial among its kind and not being too picky as long as there’s food nearby
The really cool thing about the shiftry entry is that shiftry is based off of the Tengu from shinto lore. This is commonly known, however some shinto stories state that Tengu were descended from bird people that flew to Japan and then lost their wings and then proceeded to become ninja, which explains not only the bird entry but the shoe design on shiftry's feet. ALSO it explains the weird leaf-hands that shiftry have, which is based off of a mythical weapon in shinto lore that was related to- you guessed it- the ninja. Dang gamefreak is good at their jobs
What’s cool with Ariados is that it’s dex entries contradicting each other is a paradox, which are the special Pokémon in area zero so that’s a cool detail I noticed
Actually the minior core entry is explained by an episode of the anime. Basically, when their core form is exposed, minior have a very short lifespan and just completely disappear after I think a few hours or so. Was a very sad episode of Sun and moon 😢
The thing about shiftry is that is based on a Tengu (an yokai). And tengus are bird people, so I guess people have been wondering since gen 3 why he is not a bird. We finally have an answer.
I imagine the reason why Hitmontop don't grow absurdly long horns in old age is because spinning on its horn gradually wears it down, counteracting its continuous growth, in the same way rodents teeth need to be worn down by constant biting and chewing. So you prevent a Hitmontop from spinning, and you'll probably end up with the world's tallest spinny boy who can't kick anything to save its life.
I legitimately don’t understand how there has never been a story aspect in Pokémon about all the creepy stuff that ghost Pokémon do and trying to stop it, it would be a really good plot for a evil team/ box art legendary backstory.
Shiftry is based on a Tengu, they have wings, the idea of it originally being bird like could be connected to the kotengu, a lesser bird like version of the tengu, it would also put a twist on the legend, as it actually became better and no longer resembled it's "lesser" version, so the people theorizing misconstrued it's development.
For Hitmontop, I believe that its consistent spinning on its horn actually helps with horn growth. By spinning on its horn, it whittles it down to prevent the horn from growing too long. When the Scarlet Pokédex mentioned that its horn is made from keratin. I almost immediately made the conclusion that Hitmontop spinning on its horn to prevent it from getting too long is like how us humans and many animals with claws file down our nails/claws to prevent them from growing too long. I definitely agree that their might be some older Hitmontop who have much longer horns. But that can be boiled down to it getting too old to spin on its horn like in its younger days.
So my understanding on Lombre's Dex entry is it's based of the Japanese stories of Kappa and how the yokai would be commonly mistaken as a Child and why parents often told the story to beware of being near riverbanks during heavy rain. According to Wikipedia on Kappa: Kappa have been used to warn children of the dangers lurking in rivers and lakes, as kappa have been often said to try to lure people to water and pull them in. Even today, signs warning about kappa appear by bodies of water in some Japanese towns and village
Guessing on behaf of tentacruel, I think the tenticals are bundled in groups of 10 to give the appearance of 8, bulking them up for combat instead of a bunch of smaller flimsy ones.
1:05 I think entries that just have an extra comment at the end are so much better. Another example that comes to mind would be 'It dislikes heavy children'
Clarification for Ariados: Says thread connects back to its nest, but the alternate entry states that it "doesn't nest in a specific place" but doesn't technically say that it doesn't nest at all. Given that the entry portrays it as an active hunter, it makes sense that it could have multiple nests, create them at random, or even more unsettling to consider: Ariados could be a trapdoor spider...
Shiftry are based on the Japanese yokai Tengu which is said to be based on birds and monkeys in varying combinations. I think that is a cool nod to the bird traits of tengu.
I really like Cinderace’s Scarlet Entry, mainly because it shows some personality to one of my favorites. “Although Cinderace loses its cool easily, it will battle flawlessly for a Trainer it trusts.” It also shows Cinderace has a short fuse.
I love its Scarlet entry, too, mainly because I kind of predicted it. I have a Cinderace OC named Pyrostrike, who is *exactly* like Cinderace's Scarlet entry. He got that short fuse, yet he battles valiantly for the trainer he trusts, Clare, who always promises to make him stronger as their life together goes by. This dex entry just adds that extra charm to my favourite Pokemon and I love it even more.
@@yaboipktendo Okay, never thought I'd see a Unite reference here. However, as a Cinderace main myself I can confirm that while I might have a short fuse at times, though I don't have the nerve to completely throw the game. I mean this in the sense that I would most certainly be happy knocking out the opponents' Pokemon and scoring all their hard-earned points in their face as an act of vengeance and in an act of winning the game. I do not only play Cinderace, however, as I have found recent enjoyment in slapping for crits as Azumarill and playing my second favourite starter, Meowscarada. Nuzleafs violet entry says that its sensory functions are concentrated in its pointy nose, which it uses to sense its surroundings, but its nose is also its weak point, and i think thats funny
One of Rhydon's entries talks about it gaining significant intelligence from standing in two legs. Rhyperior's therefore means it saw the horrors of self-awareness and answered appropiatedly. And yeah, you could say G-Slowbro and Shellder relationship is toxic. Hence the type.
I love Galarian Slowking's entries together. He's the drug maker AND the dealer; yet not even he knows what the f*** he's making or doing. In short: Despite his Psychic-Type, he's an idiot.
For the rhypherior thing, I think it’s intelligence is between rhydon and rhyhorn. It is smart enough to know its territory unlike rhyhorn, partially because it can’t run around like rhyhorn can, and it is less intelligent than rhydon because of that immobility. It is not sessile but moves as it needs to such as to eat or fight.
21:46 also, its spikes being thicker and shorter would actually be a useful adaptation in real life! Smaller spikes means less surface area for heat to escape from, allowing it to deal with its cold environment better. Birds living in cold environments have smaller breaks for the same reason, and scientists have actually noticed these birds' beaks increasing in size as the climate continues to warm up.
8:00 I think Shiftry’s pokedex Entry is based of Tengu. Demons that have relation with birds; sometimes more humanoid like Shiftry’s desing If you wanna know more, look at Yokai Watch, for example
Two things I noted For Ariados there was a Sword and Shield dlc dex entry with Kabuto or Omanyte (forgot which) where in one game it's super common and the other it's super rare so it contradicts And second is I think Syrpents actually seem to have one extra part to it you didn't mention. It might be Serpent, Wyrm and Syrup because the way it sounds is exactly like a corrupted version of Syrup! Love the video!
Honestly I like that Leavanny’s entry was kinda brutal. It’s meant to be a nurturing and mothering Pokemon, right? And have you noticed what can happen to even the gentlest mother when her children are in danger? 😳 (I think it would be cool if Game Freak made a literal “mama bear” Pokemon but this is close enough.)
People say there is nothing more dangerous than an injured animal - I tend to disagree. Going near a mother and her young can be the last thing you ever do. Even the most peacefull species will go to lenghts to protect their offspring.
The fact we skipped over the obvious Syrup + Serpent, and went straight to Wrym, (worm/dragon/snake) made my day. The naming of this Pokémon in English was quite good.
i think both of Ariados' entries are direct references to Ariadne's string in Greek mythology. it allowed people to successfully navigate the labyrinth, which keeps shifting and changes (like the moving nest)
- Greninja's Dex I did find peculiar but the more I thought about it, 2 reasons came to mind: 1) most pokemon that use a Water attack (ex: Water Gun) use the move from ejecting it from their mouth, so mucus i can sorta see it now 2) Greninja does grabs its signature move from the marks on its skin on the outside of its thighs, And since it is a Frog, I get it. - I figured Syrpent was meant to be a combination of Syrup + Serpent considering Hydrapple was Dipplin who's concept was syrup from Candy Apples - Swampert's Dex about beach did puzzle me, but then I think it might be referencing Swampert's Japanese name: Laglarge (which comes from beach-like lagoons) - When Hitmontop was brought about with its horn & Mikey's view of it, it kinda reminds me of One Piece character Chinjao - Shiftry having connections to being a bird doesn't surprise me as it comes from its origin reference of a mythical Tengu
@@ashyflameI can sorta accept it due to it being a frog & that's part of its biology. I mean we've already accepted with Greninja having its long tongue wrapped around its neck as a scarf; just adding this to it just seems more realistically understanding in a way
The swampert thing building nests on beaches might reference estuaries; which is where streams enter oceans. Generally, they tend to be fairly muddy/swampy until they reach the beach/sandy areas. Source: marine biology class
Erm...how do i say this....the ariados entries don't contradict each other. It simply says that it's thread always leads to it's nest. But it never says that said nest cannot be moved around. Meaning that ariadaos can always move it's nest around, and that the thread can always lead back to it's current nest location. So yeah.
I also assumed the 'syrpent' was a pun on syrup as well as serpent and wyrm. Since it's in an apple and references syrup with other dex entries for other members of this line
I think that the ariados entry works. It may mean that it doesn’t permanent home, so it wanders wherever it needs to. Whenever it wants to rest, it builds a nest and stays there for a bit. Because it moves so often, it doesn’t remember the area well and can get lost easily. In order to prevent that, it attaches a web to its temporary nest so that it can find its way back and not have to go looking for a suitable environment again. When it’s ready to leave, it cuts the web and moves on.
I really hope more and more Pokédex entries start to tell us what Pokémon looked like or acted like in the past and then we (hopefully) get to see that in future legends games
You know what I love, guys the difference in dex entries have gotta be because it’s two different professors doing the entries. Or if you wanna argue it’s the player writing the entries then maybe players saw different behaviors. So the Violet player character saw one thing while the scarlet one saw another. Idk it’s a theory with 0 evidence but it’s a cool thought
I believe Iron Boulder's Scarlet Dex Entry could be referring to Team Plasma. Like what they did with Genesect, a similar process could have happened that lead to the creation of Iron Boulder. But still, I remembered reading it and laughing my butt off.

23:14 I think the actual combination that forms "Syrpent" is Syrup + Serpent, seeing one of its abilities is called Supersweet Syrup, i think that would make more sense then Serpent + Wyrm, although, it could be Serpent + Wyrm + Syrup.
yeah, plus Hydrapple having regenerator for an ability makes sense because of the mythical creature it's based on being the Hydra
@@bulborb8756oh, that explains why it has regenerator

From the yr in Wyrm, I suppose
I love the hitmontop dex entry about its horn constantly growing, cuz it implies that the growing prevents the horn from being permanently ruined by hitmontop spinning on it. Like the teeth of a beaver
Also “syrpent” is a pun on syrup, cuz its apple is made of syrup
This also means that a hitmontop that doesn’t or can’t spin for some reason will have a comically large horn, as he notes, also similar to animals with continuously growing teeth/horns that can’t reduce their size through use
Yo that double entendre for Hydrapple is so creative hahah
For Tentacruel... I assume that each of those "eight" tentacles is, in fact, ten smaller tentacles all coiled together so they look like one, and when it goes to catch something, it uncoils them to catch things.

It is, specifically, it is based on the "World Turtle".
It was actually that our world was carried by several elephants and THOSE were carried by a giant turtle.
Also it’s stellar form is the mysterious illustration from the books from Scarlet/Violet at the academy.
The myth of the world turtle is of Hindu origin. Certain Amerindian tribes also believed in a world turtle, without elephants of course.

So older Tentacruel have thinner tentacles?
Corphish seems to be based on the Signal Crayfish, a species native to the Pacific Northwest region in North America. They have been introduced across the world as a food species, where they have become quite invasive and kill off native species (including other native crayfish). The invasions are particularly bad in Japan and western Europe, but Ontario and southern California have them as well.
I thought it was based on the red swamp crayfish.
cultural note: despite the localized name, lombre is actually inspired by the kappa, a yokai that lives on rivers they're also called "river children" hence dex entries saying it looks like a child or that it was a child.
The reason Dodrio is stated to be slower than Doduo is because previous entries for the two had put Doduo’s top running speed at 50 mph, but Dodrio’s at 40 mph.

For the Ariados entries, it makes sense that they need to keep track of their nest every time they relocate, that's why they use their threads to find it more easily
18:15 This would be "accidental dual parasitism." Shelder is a visible parasite. But Shelder also accidentally harming itself on slowbro's spice.
Nice
Cool
The two ariados entries don't necessarily contradict eachother. The thread likely leads back to the nest it was born in, and it attempts to leave the nest and never follows it's thread. If the thread leads back to it's birthplace, than it could still never nest in one spot, making the entries go hand-in-hand.
Why would it leave a thread and never follow it?
@@RennHans It may not be a choice. It could just be a thread that is always being excreted and sticks to the nest, and thanks to Ariados' sun entry, we know that the string might be strong enough to stay up forever. Well is the shellder fainting still counts as it being benefited?
I guess you can say it’s a toxic relationship.
Mikey. . . Syrpent is syrup and serpent. You get dipplin from a syrupy apple, so it was a pun from that.
"all aboard the toxic gossip chain"
1:05 I think entries that just have an extra comment at the end are so much better. Another example that comes to mind would be 'It dislikes heavy children'
Those Dex entries for Minior made me remember the Sun and Moon episode with the Minior fading away in front of everyone. It was so sad 😢
“Although Cinderace loses its cool easily, it will battle flawlessly for a Trainer it trusts.”
It also shows Cinderace has a short fuse.
As a Pokemon Unite player, i can confirm that Cinderace players have very short fuses. One death and they're afk
@@yaboipktendo Okay, never thought I'd see a Unite reference here. However, as a Cinderace main myself I can confirm that while I might have a short fuse at times, though I don't have the nerve to completely throw the game. Instead, anger only feeds my lust for blood as a Cinderace main. Most may play to score more points than their enemies, but I play to rip and tear the opposition apart so that they can't score back. Welcome to My Life As A Fire Rabbit.
Please laugh at my comment.
@@ToadetteTails6969 Finally, a Cinderace player who has understandable goals, a true Master of the Rabbit
@@yaboipktendo the pain of a new ranked season... all the cinderace/mewtwo/zacian players going afk and spam pinging after ONE death x -x
@@ToadetteTails6969 The Slowking in Glarian Slowking is a zombie, so it makes sense how not even it knows what it's drugs can do.
I think that Lombre's dex entry might be refrencing it's inspiration, kappas, and how it's japanese name (河童) literally translates to "river child".

I think Shiftry’s pokedex Entry is based of Tengu. Demons that have relation with birds; sometimes more humanoid like Shiftry’s desing
If you wanna know more, look at Yokai Watch, for example
Two things I noted
For Ariados there was a Sword and Shield dlc dex entry with Kabuto or Omanyte (forgot which) where in one game it's super common and the other it's super rare so it contradicts
And second is I think Syrpents actually seem to have one extra part to it you didn't mention. It might be Serpent, Wyrm and Syrup because the way it sounds is exactly like a corrupted version of Syrup!
Love the video!
It was Kabuto's Sword and Shield entries, they directly mimic its version exclusivity.
As far as the seedot, I can’t say I’m surprised that instead of a sentient plant some grass types are just pseudo plants or plant mimics
Isn’t Ursaring described as that though?
The Terapagos entry talking about it being "the world as the ancients saw it" is also a refrence to the phrase "Turtles all the way down"
Grubbin being Spider-Man made my day lmfao 😂
The fact we skipped over the obvious Syrup + Serpent, and went straight to Wrym, (worm/dragon/snake) made my day. The naming of this Pokémon in English was quite good.
i think both of Ariados' entries are direct references to Ariadne's string in Greek mythology. it allowed people to successfully navigate the labyrinth, which keeps shifting and changes (like the moving nest)
they don't change nests - the entry states they are just not picky about the location
I love how Terapagos's Stellar form is a turtle on top of a turtle on top of a turtle.
It's turtles all the way down! As the ancients saw the world.
ancient people believed that the Earth is flat and lies on Elefants that stand on a shell of a giant turtle in space
- I figured Syrpent was meant to be a combination of Syrup + Serpent considering Hydrapple was Dipplin who's concept was syrup from Candy Apples
- Swampert's Dex about beach did puzzle me, but then I think it might be referencing Swampert's Japanese name: Laglarge (which comes from beach-like lagoons)
- When Hitmontop was brought about with its horn & Mikey's view of it, it kinda reminds me of One Piece character Chinjao
- Shiftry having connections to being a bird doesn't surprise me as it comes from its origin reference of a mythical Tengu
What about Ash-greninja? Who has a whole water suriken on its back. That thanks to this entry is made out of Mucus
@@ashyflameI can sorta accept it due to it being a frog & that's part of its biology. I mean we've already accepted with Greninja having its long tongue wrapped around its neck as a scarf; just adding this to it just seems more realistically understanding in a way
If we’re being honest, if YOU had the choice between a swamp or a beach to live on, you’d probably be on the beach too.
The swampert thing building nests on beaches might reference estuaries; which is where streams enter oceans. Generally, they tend to be fairly muddy/swampy until they reach the beach/sandy areas.

Ever since Sword and Shield came out, Cramorant has been one of my favorite bird Pokemon. The thing is just so dumb and I love it.
i can see why, its very derpy and it's got a couple dex entries that mention that the bird itself is stupid
It literally looks like the dumbest thing on Earth and I can not see it any other way.
And likely also spelled the way it is because Syrupent is already the name of a Viva Piñata creature and therefore probably trademarked
I really like the samurott entry. Iaijustu is very technical and i find it interesting that the shells on its legs are swords.
Something to note about Poltchageist is that we learn about its origins in its reveal teaser.
Yeah, it seems like it implies they're nomadic

That’s what I thought of!!!!
Seeing as this was in the future, it would be neo plasma. However, it would have to reform.
