So with the gastrodon thing: In some areas of the world, particularly the Caribbean, beaches have sand largely made up of dead plankton which could be suggest that modern Pokémon scientists know that it eats sand for the plankton but to Laventon they appear to just eat sand.
It could be that it is eating the sand, with the plankton in it, and then filtering out the plankton and using the sand for its ground attacks. It would fix the conflict of ideas, and would make sense, as people of the past wouldn't understand that it was eating the microscopic plankton in the sand, and would think that its just eating the sand itself.
The plankton says it is invisible to the naked eye, which could mean that to laventon, gastrodon only eats sand while in reality the plankton just happens to be on sand most of the time.
I see Lilligant living in the mountains as being symbolic of its brutality. Regular Lilligant live in grassy areas where you’d expect a flower to thrive, so they wear dresses and appear as royalty. This Lilligant lives in the mountains where one would expect it to suffer, but instead it has adapted, losing its dress for a more open and effective style. The new addition of the fighting type also makes sense, as fighting gives it coverage against ice. This suggests that Lilligant lives in the mountains to get stronger, and gained the fighting type as a way of surviving against the ice type Pokémon that live there. To me this is just cool cause it shows Lilligant as being an absolute beast that puts itself through struggles so it can come out on top.
Might I also point out that you can find an alpha Garchomp, who are dragon/ground types and thus DOUBLE susceptible to ice types, in the area completely covered in snow?
It's more along the lines of Hisuian Lilligant being the progenitor of normal Lilligant. Their dance and fragrance were so beautiful that humans invited them to reside alongside them. Lilligant shed the brutality needed to survive in such harsh conditions and became more demure, elegant and refined as a result of an easier life.
My guess with Monferno: Those with lighter blue crests are higher ranking meaning they don't have to fight and hunt as often because the lower ranking ones are the ones that do that. The higher ranking ones just take the food. Therefore, the deeper blue are more likely to evolve into Infernape since they're the ones gaining experience from battles
It could also be a reference to how counter-intuitive nature can be; male lions with dark manes are more attractive to females but are more likely to be sterile due to overheating.
@@katiebrown3811 there's a specific term for that, when animals evolve traits that harm them because it's attractive to mates. I just can't remember it right now
Perhaps brighter blue ones are inherently weaker, but were faster learners/were more intelligent? So they rose in the hierarchy due to being wiser or something. But the deeper blue ones perhaps were born with higher specs (like, i dunno, higher IVs or something) so they were stronger and did more of the tasks like fighting predators/fighting for territory, or tasks that end up easier for those able to produce hotter flames and exert more physical force. "Stronger" and "higher ranking" can go hand in hand, but it's not like their definitions are synonymous. Or since the entries talking about brighter blue are more recent chronologically, maybe over the course of time it took for Hisui to become Sinnoh, the traits that the Monferno found more favorable might have changed as their environments around them did.
I am colorblind, but as far as I understand brighter does not = lighter, and deep does not always = dark. “Deep” is even described as being bright. So couldn’t “bright” and “deep” both mean heavy pigmentation?
i love that these entries are clearly written by laventon, makes them feel more grounded, as opposed to the entries in games with digital pokedexes, where the information might as well be pulled out of thin air.
it's so weird to me that my rabbits are the chillest ever and dgaf about loud noises **not typical and all rabbit owners shluld take precaution to lower bun stress**
@@soappacket2342 Probably because they were raised in captivity. It's extremely rare, more common is going into shock and having a mental shutdown. Rabbits in the wild are so incredibly stressed that they are usually on the verge of either a heart attack or snapping and attacking everything around them in blind panic. There's a reason wild rabbits, even in safety, drop of old age 25% sooner than domestic. just so high strung, but for good reason when you're a prey animal!
It also makes sense that some sports players would use Ballet dancing as a form of exercise to strengthen their body and be more flexible. It ALSO makes sense as to why Hisuian Lilligant's typing is both Grass and Fighting.
19:54 Oddly enough, Alexander Hamilton was engaged in 11 duels before his last one with Aaron Burr. The first 11 were all settled peacefully; that’s because the real first rule of dueling was to avoid combat altogether. With Burr and Hamilton’s duel (ignited by Hamilton having called Burr, “despicable”), their seconds couldn’t agree on a peaceful resolve, and that’s what led to them going to combat.
I find Gallade’s entry quite interesting. “The blades extending from its elbows are sharper than the finest swords. Its swordsmanship, albeit self-taught, is astonishingly impressive.” Gallade was self taught. And I find that really cool. It’s like he had to learn how to use his arm blades effectively.
I imagine the first Gallades taught themselves and mastered their swordsmanship to a point where it's now in the average modern Gallade's nature to have innately perfect swordsmanship
@@midgetydeath I mean, it would make sense honestly. Going from a ballerina-esk thing which is very much so a special attacker, suddenly into a physical attacker who slashes stuff, WOULD have a large learning curve realistically. Even with the presumed instincts and possible other ralts-line pokemon to help out
Can we all just talk about how Gliscore's entry was made?! Imagine a person struggling to get it off their neck, desperately trying to scream for help, while MC is crouching in the grass and is like: "Mhm, 'look… of… satisfaction…' Got it! Okay, Braviary, we're done here. Now, let's go look how Dusknoir steals a soul of a still living person."
the monferno entry is actually really interesting. Think of it like this... the Darker blue means it's more powerful, so they'd be the protectors of the tribe (assuming they live in similar groups to real life monkeys), while Lighter blue means they're a higher rank, with the lightest blue being the leader. Like a king has the highest position in their kingdom, but the guards are often more skilled in combat
@Emma Warne This isn't true for every animal species. Often in apes the most intelligent is selected as leader as they are more confident and altogether better at asserting dominance without even needing to fight.
Deeper blue and lighter blue are not necessarily opposites... it's true that deep colors typically aren't light colors but dark colors can lack depth sometimes... so maybe the blue gets both deeper and slightly ligher the more strong the monke is?
I thing to consider with Laventon's theory about the Incarnate Forms being not the true forms, remember that the item used to form change the forces of nature into their Therian forms (with Incarnate being the initial form you see/catch) is "The Reveal Glass".
I am now validated for feeling a pulse of terror when I was exploring the Mirelands in search of Turtwig, turned around, and spotted an Alpha Vespiquen charging at me. My only saving grace? I had my starter, Blaze the Typhlosion, with me at the time.
In my opinion, heatran is actually just a species of pokemon that lives in magma, and since its rarely seen in the surface, its treated as a legendary. That would explain how it appears to be in several different places in the pokemon world
would be cool if at one point we could see it in another legends game, maybe as a different form, where its just a normal pokemon, and maybe not so rare. When i was a kid i didnt even know it was a legendary.
Cresselia's 'dex entry talking about the maiden is a Japanese thing. IIRC her name is Orihime, and her story is the origin of the Japanese holiday Tanabata. Look it up some time, folk lore is always fascinating IMO.
To me, one of the coolest parts of this game is how we get to go on mini quests in the form of the requests and learn A LOT about many of the Pokémon residing in the region, SUCH AS Froslass.
I really really like how the dex entry are from Professor's Laventon's own writing in first person and not just like a random trivia about said Pokemon. (Well okay, the entries are just random trivia but it feels more natural)
25:30 I can see the reason why it can be retorted that the Dex entry could classified to be false, but I would like to add that where we can catch there "Wild" Togetics are extremely close to where the Diamond Clan is located and that both clans have made bonds with pokemon without the need for pokeballs for generations, so most likely the Togetics we catch are in fact evolved form bonds made with the clan's people so we're probably catch someone's pokemon without them knowing about it.
I think the reason Snorlax was so much more dangerous back then is because extra food was nonexistent in ancient times. Even when crops were bountiful people went hungry. These days if your local grocery store runs out of food you have so many other options.
On the topic of Overqwil, lots of poisonous animals aren't naturally poisonous, they gain the poison from their diet, so that could be what's happening here.
To add: a well-known example of this is the poison-dart frog, which most likely get their poison from the ants that they eat, since there are many poison-dart frogs in captivity that are completely harmless
@@mushforbrains. I love how over the top it looks. The only thing that kinda turns me off are this mini spikes over its eyes. I think it would look better without them...
Here’s my theory about Silkoon and Cascoon. So Legends Dex says that Cascoon’s is the more useful one for clothing, but most likely silkoon’s is in modern time and I believe it’s because in Legends, you get called out for wearing normal, silk clothing saying that you would get torn to shreds by the wild Pokémon. In modern times that doesn’t really happen so it makes sense that when Pokémon are attacking to wear the stronger and more defensive stuff while when they aren’t attacking people to wear more comfortable silk based clothes
I figured it was cause silkworms are moths, and thus cascoon is closer to those as a moth then silkoon is (who becomes a butterfly). Also, I'm betting the modern clothes are cotton.

You aren't really wearing silk though, you are wearing polyester or cotton. Also no, the entry is simply a reference to real life. In asia there is a moth species named "Silk moth" which was specifically domesticated for Silk production.
The Gastrodon thing seems to pretty obviously imply that Laventon is just mistaken again, as he is proven to be capable of. Gastrodon doesn't literally eat sand, it eats plankton which are _in_ the sand. It's a filter-feeder. Laventon just can't see the plankton, so he makes an incorrect assumption. Edit: Incidentally, you questioned why the Dex asserts that the Therian forms of the Genies are their 'true forms.' The description of the Reveal Glass responsible for changing the Genies' forms states that it _"reveals the truth"_ and _"returns a Pokemon to its original shape."_
Just jumping on this to say that alpha gastrodons when they run around look absolutely hilarious, especially with their little legs just scooting around alongside them too. Such a quirky little Pokemon
Wrong they want to eat youre neck. I went to the pokemon foot print guy told me my gastrosdon wanted to bite my neck because it loved me so much. So youre wrong and so is professor weird hat.
Regarding the cascoon vs silkoon silk, I believe this is actually a reference to real world silkworms. Yes, some species of butterflies and their larval forms can make silk, but it doesn't tend to be as high quality as their moth counterparts, which is what you typically get when you think of silk.
I will say, though, Snorlax in the anime HAS been portrayed that way. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, Ash's Snorlax was a menace to society until Ash caught it. It was swimming from island to island eating everything in its path, starving both people and Pokemon. So yeah, this entry doesn't really surprise me.
@@jonath56_gaming That's definitely one way of looking at it. Snorlax's dex entries have already said how it has to eat so much food in a day. Where does all that food come from?
@@cdesigner9178 anything that it decides is edible enough for it to eat in the first season it ate a giant thorn patch that was blocking a river from flowing into a village
It was a grapefruit orchard. It still caused devastation, since workers would have to be laid off to recoup profits, but no one was starving due to a lack of name-brand grapefruit. It also tried to eat Misty’s Goldeen.
I actually like the idea of some entries being wrong on purpose, since it just adds to the theme that all of these pokemon are new and just being discovered. Of course it won’t all be correct, because it’s new and exciting and we don’t have the ability to properly study it It’s like how we had no clue what a platypus was until way after it’s discovery, or how to this day we’re still learning about animals we’ve known about for a very long time. Got to say I do love some of these entries quiet a bit, especially the little tid bits the professor leaves in about himself or that it is just speculation and not fact
Animals have species category changed all the time with new info. Blue/Pink Shellos should actually just become different regional variants, but in a single region.
I had a laugh when Mikey made the mistake of not realising that “Workrum” was Murkrow backwards and then in the very next scene asking people to subscribe!
the Murkrow entry is probably a homage to Mr. Mztylplk from superman (make him say his name backwards to keep him away), kinda like how Palafin is a reference to superman through its hero form and the fact that finnizen evolves at lv 38, the year that superman first appeared in comics
It's from even before then, abracadabra was a nonsense word used to ward off evil in the time of the black death. Palindrome words were said to hold power, so saying the word backwards was said to reverse its intent. So evil words spoken backwards were used to ward that evil off.

However, it can function and live just fine. I like that we get an idea of this species' anatomy and/or physiology.
Absolutely and especially since the Porygon line is clearly inspired by the evolution of 3d models, with the third evolution being a literal corrupted file. There'd be no reason for a computer-made object to breath and it's negated in most animated projects.
Makes me wonder where Laventon is from, since the Copperajah migrated to Galar it creates a whole new mystery. Similarly with S/V, Copperajah's entry states how they were brought there from a far away land. Assuming Copperajah takes the place of an Indian Elephant mentioned in Raichu's entry, Copperajah derives from a region we haven't heard of.
@@artsyfoxie Well, maybe this India-themed region was under Galarian rule for a while. Y'know, to imitate the British Raj and their influence on India.
@@somerandomgamer8504 another good theory, but we may never know. It could be that he’s from Paldea for all we know and just spent a lot of time under Galarian influence.
What I think about the Lilligant situation is they stay in the mountains to grow stronger by facing against Ice types which they are weak to. We have already seen fighting types in snowy places to grow stronger
That makes sense. Mangofoomo, Ex-Hippotas-now-Hippowdon proves this by now only being knocked around halfway by Ice Moves whilst originally getting 1-Shot by them and also evolving during this Ice zone. Aka: Snowpoint's Routes
Laverton is DEFINETLY from Galar, because the "Sending a rose to challenge someone to a duel." is most likely a reference to the War of the Roses from English history.
Laventon is not from Galar. Raichu's dex entry in Legends mentions it being able to take out a Copperajah from Laventon's homeland. And in Sword it says Copprrajah is not from Galar
@@BearWith_You copperajah would've been in Galar long enough to ingrain itself in its culture. Also the Raichu's dex is referencing an experiment performed by Thomas Eddison where he electrocuted an Indian elephant to prove that AC circuits were more dangerous then DC

Whoever wrote these dex entries is an absolute genius. Using the common knowledge from the modern day professors and changing up Buneary's dex entry which was wrong to show how much Pokemon scientists have learned since the Hisui dex.
18:40 it is literally stated that the plankton is nearly invisible thus Laventon just saw a Gastrodon eating sand and thought that would be its food source.
never mind the fact that plankton weren't discovered until 1887, so if legends arceus takes place 200 years ago, then presumably plankton wouldn't be known about for another 65 years or so.
For the Togetic entry, Mikey has completely ignored the possibility that some cruel (or dead) individual had abandoned their Togetic, and he gave it a second lease on life.
About Samurott. The last part explains why it evolves like that because in older dex entries, it said that Samurott can usually knock down its foes in one swipe. However, in the Hisuian dex entry, it says it crashes into foes like ceaseless pending waves, which implies it needs multiple hits to knock down its opponents. This would make sense because the Pokemon in Hisui are much stronger than Pokemon in other regions. It would also have to adapt to the "crashing" part, so I'm guessing that's why its head looks like that.

Regarding confirmation that Laventon was right about Tornadus and the genies, the Reveal Glass is used to change their forms from incarnate to therian, and vice versa- seeing that they are always caught as incarnates, the reveal glass 'reveals' their true form- that's just my thought on it
When I first saw Porygon I was baffled at how it could be present, given the time period of the game. Then I realized that it was only showing up in space-time rifts, now I’m wondering if Porygon is a bootstrap paradox. Its being encountered in the past inspired its creation hundreds of years later in Kanto.
Spoiler ahead: For a Pokémon example of this paradox, look at the fourth anime movie where Ash discusses the concept of the Pokédex with a time-displaced Samuel Oak, which gives him the idea of creating an expansive Pokémon encyclopedia as the adult Professor Oak which he calls the Pokédex and eventually gives one to Ash when he starts his journey. A bootstrap paradox is basically where your actions in the past created the present that already existed.

One of the reasons I can't help but think about the change in tone between Snorlax' dex entries between Hisui and modern pokemon is that the rate of food production has probably risen since Hisuian times. For that reason, Snorlax eating people out of house and home is less devastating than it was back when farms were smaller and there was less people could do against things like crop diseases and harsh weather. What humans have become capable of is probably what changed our perspective of Snorlax from "aww fkk walking famine" to "friendly sleepy boy who eats a ton and sometimes blocks traffic"
14:07 This actually comes full circle. In our world, elephants were brought to Great Brittain from India and Asia to be working animals. So the Indian elephants referenced in the past in Pokemon were Copperajah. Also the thought that Laventon is ancestors to Hop and Leon may still hold up that he's from Galar and they may have Indian heritage!
I love how you used the Natsu reference for Overquil. That's exactly what came to my mind. "Overquil can just eat its own poison. Lol. That's silly. Wait. Or can it?" was my thought process.
about Raichu's entry with Copperajah, Copperajah seems to have been imported to Galar before Laventon's time, cause it's not just Copperajah being in the Galar games that suggests that Laventon is from Galar, it's also his mannerisms, hat, the theory that Hop and Leon are his descendants
He's probably from the Pokemon world's version of India, and either grew up in Galar or experienced cultural exchange due to colonization from them, what with Galar being Pokemon's England.
@@rafaelrijo8175 It's not, though, as far as I can tell. No one sent flowers to challenge a duel. Typically they sent a letter, or more dramatically, shout it in person and/or throw off a glove. India (and pretty much everywhere else) also had duels.
The Togetic thing was funny to me. I remember seeing one near that giant waterfall, and spent nearly 10 minutes using the giant fish (forgot the name) to leap off of the waterfall, and catch the Togetic in mid-air.

The moon gastrodon entry says that the plankton is microscopic, so many it appears to be eating sand in the past, but modern technology proves it's not the sand but plankton in the sand

@@danielmaynard1582 and the bees that Vespiqueen gives orders to. I think there are some real animals but the world is still mostly inhabited by pokemon (and humans). The Pokémon Generations portrayed the beast trio of Johto as "weird pokemon" that looked like normal dogs.
While Copperajah may be from another region, the way Laventon talks, combined with the fact that he lived in a region with Copperajah suggests that he's Galarian, or at the very least moved to Galar when he was very young, as he has a British accent. Although some people do think that the hints about Copperajah might mean that Gen 9 is in an India inspired region
Well, if Galar is based on the British...and India was occupied by the British for many years... Laventon may be of indian-pokemon region descent, either born to or immigrated to Galar.
People also point out that Laventon resembles Leon, thus further suggesting a connection to Galar by him being the ancestor of its famous unbeatable Champion. Legends Arceus was not exactly trying to hide the possible ancestors of modern-day characters.
I think the one about Overqwil is supposed to reference how some poisonous creatures don't actually generate their own poisons. They become poisonous by consuming either poisonous plants or by eating other poisonous animals ( a real life example of this would include the Monarch butterfly which as a caterpillar eats milkweed which as the larvae matures transfers the toxins from their food into their bodies , thus if another animal ate them they would become sick ) pufferfish are poisonous in real life and consume things that are sometimes poisonous to other animals so this is possible when it comes to Overqwil .
2:56 most likely the first one - animals with heat retaining fur have two layers of fur, one short one long. Together they create a trapped layer of air that gets warmed up to the animal’s body temp and so it becomes an insulating layer

Note about Monferno: Deep and Light aren't opposite in reference to color. Deep is usually just how saturated the color is and how far away it is from the monochrome spectrum. Light is just how much white is mixed into the color, usually. You can be a deep color while still being on the light spectrum
Regarding Cresselia, I do remember a story from Greek Mythology where the Milky Way was created by Hera, or more specifically, Hera’s breastmilk, after Heracles bit her nipple during a feeding, and she tore him off her breast, causing the milk in his mouth to splatter out, creating the streams of the Milky Way. Yes. Really.
Hera despised Heracles as a reminder of her husband's infidelity. Zeus had baby Heracles suckle on Hera while she slept, and when she awoke to see a random baby breast feeding on her, she flung it away
@@Basically_Anybody actually fun fact. It’s both. There’s more than one version of the myth. One accepted myth is Zeus putting Heracles on Hera while she sleeps, and another accepted one is Athena “finding” Heracles in the woods and giving him to Hera to nurse since she was chaste and not motherly. Depends on which era you’re in. You gotta love cultural appropriation

The typhlosion didn’t adapt to the mountain magic, it evolved to the increase of deaths because lots of people have been dying due to pokemon being more aggressive
This might actually explain why Hisuian Typhlosion don't exist in modern day Sinnoh too. Because the region is now well established and much safer overall, not enough people die on Mount Coronet and thus the conditions for Hisuian Typhlosion don't exist anymore.
Regarding Monferno, a "deeper" color doesn't necessarily mean "darker"; it could mean "more saturated." Likewise, "brighter" might not necessarily mean closer to white on the white vs black axis, and could instead mean "more vibrant" in a more abstract sense. So "deeper" might actually be being used with similar intent to the original. On a more "just my own perspective" note, with respect to blue in particular, I find that it's relatively rare to see shades of blue that are neither "light blue" nor "dark blue" but just "blue." As such, I think that "brighter blue" might actually mean "more saturated and closer to the middle of the white/black axis" (aka "royal blue"), which it would be less likely to mean for other colors; and "deeper blue" could easily mean something similar.

Yeah, people here seem to have it in their heads that the Yanma of Hisui were more powerful. They were just about the same and it's that the buildings are weaker.
Gliscor's new dex entery just makes me love it even more. I feel Dark Type Trainers would want to include it in their line up. Trainer: Gliscor go feed. This match is over.
@Narri L that has not stopped gym leaders and elite 4 members from using other Pokémon outside their specialization. Did you not understand its dex entry for the game is very dark and menacing. My statement was referring to any trainer or gym leader whom would order their Gliscor to finish off their opponent's Pokémon by telling it to feed on them. If you applied Pokémon to the real world, you bet their would people that would be messed up to make such a command.
@Narri L I mean, Gliscor is one of many pokemon that you can asscosiated with different type by just judging from its appearance. Dark, poison, flying, ground, bug.
The item that changes the forms of Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus and Enamorous is the reveal glass (truth glass in my language). Also, the humanoid forms are called "Incarnate". So it's pretty much confirmed that the therian forms are the true forms, and the four Pokémon can incarnate into their humanoid forms. Even Giratina was firstly introduced in its "fake" form, only for its true form to be revealed later.
I actually kinda love the idea of the Roselia thorns idea for a dual. I mean think about it. If you want to challenge someone to a dual, you have to seek out a Roselia (who might attack you, mind you), in order to pluck off some of it's poison thorns (And not get pricked yourself; otherwise you could die), to mail them to your opponent as a way to say "I challenge you." Not only is that a hardcore badass call out to say "I'm better then you" but, it also probably reduced the amount of duels only to people with actual courage... or stupidity. Also, Workrum being Murkrow backwards makes sense as a fun inside joke; but I do believe it's also a reference to Redrum, the infamous palindrome for Murder; which a flock of Murkrow would be.
about the snorlax causing famine... there have been several Anime episodes that have had a rampaging Snorlax that eats everything. 2 of note that i can remember of the top of my head: The Snorlax Ash caught was at first swimming between an island group and destroying the fruit yield and even badly damaging the trees doing so and a less important one where a snorlax got into a Slakoth Zoo and eats the banana
The Kalos one was completely tame and not a threat to that town's livelihood, while all the other instances happened in very out-of-the-way locations. The point is that you wouldn't see this in a big established city like Saffron or, heck, Jubilife nowadays.
@@gengarzilla1685 Agreed, in the Kalos one they wanted the snorlax to eat the crop yield as a tradition. The two I mentioned were about a snorlax nearly ruining two places
I just caught something about the Typhlosion dex entry. For this, I have some explaining to do. The concept of purifying through fire has sort of been used both literally and symbolically for some time now, but I want to say that the connection between melting god and Purgatory have to do with this. First, Purgatory is not the same as Hell. In Purgatory (in some branches of Christianity at least), certain souls are purified before they enter Heaven. Here, souls aren't too far gone, they just need to "get cleaned up a bit" if that makes sense. This has been compared to smelting gold, from what I have been told by Christians that I've talked to, where gold is melted and the impurities rise to the top where they can then be easily removed. With this information, Hisuian Typhlosion could somewhat be based off the concept of Purgatory. If that's so, then do the souls it purifies suffer intense torment in order to be freed of their evil desires? Also, they totally missed an opportunity to turn ghost pokemon into good pokemon.
@@savvythedivineyethuggable7493 Yeah, you're right. As an Atheist, I don't believe in ANYTHING unscientific. And on the topic of good Ghost types, Mimikyu. It only wants to be loved, and actively tries not to show it's true form to people, lest they die of shock.
@@caolanochearnaigh9804 Well, yeah Mimikyu exists, but I was talking about how there could have been good regional variants of ghost types that used to be evil.

I think with Overqwil’s Pokédex entry, it refers to how actual puffer fish get their poison- from the bacteria from the food they eat, and when the puffer fish digests it’s food (usually invertebrates and algae) the bacteria turns into the toxins found in the body of the puffer fish The more you know :D
I love that the uxie entry kinda ties into mystery dungeon, because it was like a major plot point, in PMD explorers, that it might have done that to the main character
19:12 This is actually how blowfish in real life work. Blowfish don't directly create the poison. Instead, the poison is created by bacteria that it obtains from its food. 21:30 I’m not certain about Hisui, but I suspect there would likely be nobility in Ecruteak at this time.
@@JaelinBezel Legends: Arceus seems to take place in the mid-to-late 19th century. So if history in the Pokémon universe mirrors our own, then Kalos would’ve already overthrown its monarchy.
When you think about Samurott's dex entry, you realize something. In other dex entry's of Unovan Samurott, it says that it can "Fell a single foe in a single strike with its sword and quiet an entire crowd with a single glare." Meanwhile, Hisuian Samurott's says that "its *Turbulent Blows* crash into foes like *Ceaseless pounding Waves*." This means that during its time in Hisui, it found that, since the opponents are much more hostile, it can't just take something down in a single blow and shut people up by just looking at them. Seeing as it couldn't be merciful with a single strike, it became more relentless and showed no mercy. Notice it's still called the formidable Pokémon, it's still formidable, but not in the way we are used to
To answer your question about the "heavenly maiden", the milkyway was named after a Greek myth. Heracles (or Hercules in Roman mythology) was born and Athena or Zeus (depending on the version) decided that the baby should drink Hera's milk while she was sleeping. While Heracles was drinking, Hera woke up in a startle so a ton of milk was splattered into space, creating the milkyway
Definitely wrong. How does Cresselia even remotely look like Hera? The plates look like Asian goddesses floating in the wind with their long drapes and dresses. Such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean legends. So it has most definitely nothing to do with Greek mythology. But nice try.

Monferno's dex entry may not be a contradiction as "deep" and "bright" can mean the same thing in art depending on the context. In this case, both refer to the blue being the most saturated, while others with paler blues are weaker.
About the Snorelax, I think the reason people view it so differently in the future is because of food being a more abundant thing because of technology and pokemon, yet in the past, food was far harder to come by
I guess it's the same with yanma, a modern house is much heavier than an ancient house,( i haven't played the game but I would guess they are made of wood?)
I like to think that the snorlax one is in line with the other entries. I imagine a snorlax harmlessly waking up and looking for food and coming across what they believed to be a wild rice field and harmlessly gorging themselves finishing just in time for the local farmers to see what the pokemon had done to their crops. Of course it ended in famine but it wasn't malicious it was just a wild animal behaving like a wild animal. I like this way of writing pokedex entries a lot more than previous iterations!
ehe- now im imagining those people smashing the snorlax into pieces as revenge totally obliterating and killing it. So in revenge the rest of the snorlax’s out there became malicious and caused the famines on purpose
I love the Chimchar one because it directly references a side quest in PLA where a woman asks you to go find the ghost whisp she saw and it turns out to just be a Chimchar. She doesn't even beileve that it WAS Chimchar she saw until you show her the lil dude at night.
I like how they explain why the hisuian forms exist. It's very contextualised but what I can't wrap my head around is how based on the lore some of these Pokémon no longer exist.
Some ideas you can think of for sure for each: Basculegion killed off the entire population of Basculin over the generations until they went extint in Hisui/Sinnoh. As shown in The pokemon show "Hisui Snow" no one trusted pokemon back then, which would cause mistreatment on Zorua/Zoruark, but over the generations people learned more about them and treated them better, causing the deep resentment that fills them to dissipate. Wyrdeer it seems was a cause of hunting to near extinction. The black orbs on dead Stantler were used as a medicine according to Laventon, and modern pokedex entries state they were hunted to near extinction for art. The knowledge of how to evolve was likely lost to time while stantler struggled to survive. Ursaluna and Kleavor more than likely lost the ability to evolve due to not having the means to do so, with Peat Block and Black Augurite probably no longer being able to be found, as it was already really rare even back then. Devidueye, Typhlosion, Samurott, Braviary, Goodra and Lilligant likely are just because they no longer live natively in Sinnoh, as they migrated to warmer climates. Sneasel, Sneasler and Avalugg i have no idea. Voltorb and Electrode is a mystery as well that i have no idea how to explain the changes.
@@Selet101 I'd theorize that Voltorb and Electrode changed over time to continue to resemble the Pokeballs they were trying to mimic in the first place -- as Pokeballs became made of material other than wood they lost their Grass typing (though imo this implies that it would have made a lot of sense for that line to *also* become Electric/Steel when the Steel type was introduced). Due to the Sneasel entry Michael pointed out in this video, I also think it's reasonable to suspect that the two forms of Sneasel got into some form of territory dispute and the Dark/Ice Sneasels managed to wipe out the Fighting/Poison types; despite Fighting types having an advantage over Dark types, the Hisuian Sneasels simply weren't as aggressive or cruel in their tactics. No idea about Avalugg, though. Maybe it was simply a case of them migrating to even colder climates after a while and losing their Rock typing to completely become Ice (and not be harmed by the increased cold). No idea what could have caused the migration. Maybe as Snowpoint City and the area around it developed, enough of the natural environment was lost it needed to migrate? Especially if it started getting bigger at some point before migrating; regular Avalugg is 2 feet and over 500 pounds larger than Hisuian Avalugg. Or maybe the snowy regions of Sinnoh actually became colder over time and Hisuian Avalugg couldn't survive there any longer due to its Rock typing. But all that is just hypothesizing and I feel a lot more certain that Voltorb and Electrode just "evolved" and that Sneasels and Weaviles just wiped out their Hisuian variants.
@@kit702 Quite possible for Sneaseler just to have been wiped out by the Weavile line. Weavile are certainly more violent and vicious fighters. The thing with Electrode is though, the noble pokemon Lord Electrode has existed for centuries since the ancient hero. Poke balls only existed for a couple of years before the story of Legends Arceus. I feel that Poke balls are more based on Voltorb and Electrode than the other way around. The only way i can think of it as otherwise is if we somehow get an even more ancient version of the two that look even more different, and have a different kind of ancient pokeball that looks similar to them. Size doesn't matter for Avalugg though. It's stated they grow larger constantly their entire lives. Lord Avalugg being absolutely monstrous in size shows that. the Snowpoint area getting colder over time though, either forcing out their rock typing or forcing them to migrate makes some sense though. Sadly i doubt we'll get any answer unless Hisuian Avalugg is in Scarlett and Violet.
@@Selet101 maybe laventon and the others who worked on the pokeball originally based it off of the electrode/voltorb. And then as the pokeball was developed more voltorb evolved alongside it
Weavile aren't _just_ more violent and vicious, they're also pack animals who work incredibly well in a group. Which gives them a pretty hefty advantage against a loner like Sneasler. If even the power and girth of a single Mamoswine can't beat off a hunting party of Weavile then I'd say Sneasler's got no chance.
I like how you bring up rotom’s forms and how the dex writers don’t know what the forms are, but glosses over how mow rotom can mow down trees. *Trees*
2:14 it does explain. Normally, samurott has been known to use 1 slash and it’s done. This version has been influenced by the violence of the region, and thus needs to do multiple slashes to beat its opponents
Canadian here, there was a long period in Canadian history defined by the "fur trade" for beaver pelts. Beaver fur was highly valued by europeans(both settlers and across the ocean), and the First Nations peoples used the pelts in coats, pants, boots, etc... It was highly valued for the same things that I would Imagine Bibarel's coat was mentioned to be useful for. Since Bibarel is an Analogue to the Beaver, I feel it's probably safe to assume that they are making clothes out of Bibarel pelts.
i think one of the great parts about this game is seeing what ideas the professors of the past had about pokemon. Like it actually feels like your discovering pokemon for the first time when you read the dex intres (The way lavinton suggest that buneary ears curl up because of sound for example)
In the beta versions of gold and silver, Quilfish had an evolution that they later re-worked into Lanturn. Glad to see they’re going back to the original idea.
I feel like Arkoos’ Dex Entry should have been mentioned, as well. “It is the heavenly fount from which pours light that shines across Hisui. Its luminance guides and protects all Pokémon. Hisuian mythology states that Arceus is the creator of all things.” Once you finally obtain a part of Arkoos, its Dex page is automatically filled seemingly with Arkoos’ influence itself.
I’ve been a big fan of Decidueye ever since I saw Dartrix evolve into it in Gen 7. When I saw that Rowlet was going to be one of the starters in Legends Arceus, I just had to choose it! Then I realized that the final starters will have Hisuian forms, I got super excited. When I saw Hisuian Decidueye, I was ecstatic! Decidueye is my favorite Grass starter!
Samurott form i can explain its a dark type because in the unvoa region it would show mercy to its opponents but in old sinnoh where event hr wild Pokémon are dangerous it couldn’t just use one attack to finish its opponents of it had to rapidly and show no mercy aka the dark typing
@@gabrielrasilva I mean it does this ruthless form of fighting just changed the shells it’s weapon it didn’t need much of a change except it’s fighting style
I just wanted to point out that Froslass's entry helps show its relation to its Yokai origin even more. Being a Yuki-onna (Snow Woman). There's many stories of these ghost women killing men who trespass in their areas and ending the lives of those who wronged the Yokai I believe. Actually, I feel that'd be a great video idea. Going through the Pokedex and comparing pokémon to Yokai. Like Froslass and Yukionna Or Ninetails and Kitsune
Exactly!! Like we need to have Mikey try and do this as a video. I'm sure there could be dozens if not hundreds of pokémon with mythical origins. Like Drowsy and Baku being another example
Also there is a request in the game that ties into froslass's pokedex entry. Given you have to find a journal and the journal is written by a woman and a wild froslass has it. After you read it, it and the froslass vanish... if you didn't catch the froslass. If you did, only the journal vanishes.
18:58 Overqwil is also one of my favorite pokemon names. And many animals in the real word are poisonous/venemous because of poison in their diet, so this makes sense
Snorlax being harmful in Husui makes me think that the reason they're so docile in modern games is due to selective breeding. We know this can happen to Pokemon (Alolan Persian), so maybe trainers started breeding Snorlax who were more sleepy than others to get rid of the genes that made them greedy.

So with the gastrodon thing: In some areas of the world, particularly the Caribbean, beaches have sand largely made up of dead plankton which could be suggest that modern Pokémon scientists know that it eats sand for the plankton but to Laventon they appear to just eat sand.
It is a ground type, maybe it does eats sand
It could be that it is eating the sand, with the plankton in it, and then filtering out the plankton and using the sand for its ground attacks. It would fix the conflict of ideas, and would make sense, as people of the past wouldn't understand that it was eating the microscopic plankton in the sand, and would think that its just eating the sand itself.
I was thinking something like this
Yes
It is no coincidence that one of the noble Pokemon, a lord of the land is a Liligant.
Might I also point out that you can find an alpha Garchomp, who are dragon/ground types and thus DOUBLE susceptible to ice types, in the area completely covered in snow?
@@nightxsabbath Coincidentally, being the Strongest Alpha in the game.

So couldn’t “bright” and “deep” both mean heavy pigmentation?

the monferno entry is actually really interesting. Like a king has the highest position in their kingdom, but the guards are often more skilled in combat
Reminds me of male mandrills and their bright blue faces.
Reminds me of chess, where the king is very important but actually piss-weak when forced into battle. A figurehead at best.

I really really like how the dex entry are from Professor's Laventon's own writing in first person and not just like a random trivia about said Pokemon. (Well okay, the entries are just random trivia but it feels more natural)
But it too short, would love a bit more for each pokemon but of course it a lot to write
You could have just said Laventon's Point of View.
I like how it has a me-perspective. Things like: "I suspect..." just funny.
That's sad. Makes you not want to catch it that way.
If that were a problem then the Togetic would simply leave. Nothing forces it to stay at the ranch.

I think the reason Snorlax was so much more dangerous back then is because extra food was nonexistent in ancient times.

These days if your local grocery store runs out of food you have so many other options.

Edit: Incidentally, you questioned why the Dex asserts that the Therian forms of the Genies are their 'true forms.'
The description of the Reveal Glass responsible for changing the Genies' forms states that it _"reveals the truth"_ and _"returns a Pokemon to its original shape."_
"As he is proven to be capable of."
Ah yes, a very useful skill, making mistake. lol

I was thinking the same thing!
Regarding the cascoon vs silkoon silk, I believe this is actually a reference to real world silkworms. Yes, some species of butterflies and their larval forms can make silk, but it doesn't tend to be as high quality as their moth counterparts, which is what you typically get when you think of silk.
THE K IN SILCOON IS SUPPOSED TO BE A C!
Are you saying that Snorlax 's dex entry is an Easter egg from the anime.
@@jonath56_gaming That's definitely one way of looking at it. Snorlax's dex entries have already said how it has to eat so much food in a day. Where does all that food come from?

It was a grapefruit orchard. It still caused devastation, since workers would have to be laid off to recoup profits, but no one was starving due to a lack of name-brand grapefruit.
It also tried to eat Misty’s Goldeen.

I actually like the idea of some entries being wrong on purpose, since it just adds to the theme that all of these pokemon are new and just being discovered. Of course it won’t all be correct, because it’s new and exciting and we don’t have the ability to properly study it
It’s like how we had no clue what a platypus was until way after it’s discovery, or how to this day we’re still learning about animals we’ve known about for a very long time.

It's also a refrence to The Shining. The little boy, Danny, says "Redrum" and it shows up on the walls. It's Murder backwards.
@@tibicenlinnei4014 oh that's right. I remember that scene when Danny starts talking in with that creepy vocal fry
About the Cresselia thing: It's a reference to the Myth of the Cowheard and the Weaver girl. The OSP has a very great summary about that story.

While we knew that Porygon and its evolution line were artificially created, I think that it was interesting to learn in the Legends Arceus Dex entry of Porygon that it neither has a heartbeat nor does it draw breath.
This is reflected later on in a different artificial life form, the Scarlet and Violet AIs. They don't have a breathing animation.
Makes me wonder where Laventon is from, since the Copperajah migrated to Galar it creates a whole new mystery. Similarly with S/V, Copperajah's entry states how they were brought there from a far away land. Laventon is not from Galar. Raichu's dex entry in Legends mentions it being able to take out a Copperajah from Laventon's homeland. And in Sword it says Copprrajah is not from Galar

However, in the Hisuian dex entry, it says it crashes into foes like ceaseless pending waves, which implies it needs multiple hits to knock down its opponents. This would make sense because the Pokemon in Hisui are much stronger than Pokemon in other regions. Its being encountered in the past inspired its creation hundreds of years later in Kanto.

Spoiler ahead:
For a Pokémon example of this paradox, look at the fourth anime movie where Ash discusses the concept of the Pokédex with a time-displaced Samuel Oak, which gives him the idea of creating an expansive Pokémon encyclopedia as the adult Professor Oak which he calls the Pokédex and eventually gives one to Ash when he starts his journey.

In Greek mythology, the maiden who created the Milky Way was the goddess Hera, so Cresselia's entry may be referring to that myth.
Suppose yanmas dex entry refers to tents as houses, I think someone from the diamond clan probably mentioned to someone from the galaxy team that a yanma blew their house (tent) away. Since yanma spawn pretty close to the diamond settlement I think it makes sense

2 of note that i can remember of the top of my head: The Snorlax Ash caught was at first swimming between an island group and destroying the fruit yield and even badly damaging the trees doing so
and a less important one where a snorlax got into a Slakoth Zoo and eats the banana
Don't forget the Kalos Snorlax episode.
May I point you to Asonian Dusknoir from Truegreen7's series? It's literally the pokemon equivalent of the Angel of Death.
@@caolanochearnaigh9804 Well, that sounds interesting, but that's not canon to the official Pokémon series.

I think with Overqwil’s Pokédex entry, it refers to how actual puffer fish get their poison- from the bacteria from the food they eat, and when the puffer fish digests it’s food (usually invertebrates and algae) the bacteria turns into the toxins found in the body of the puffer fish
The more you know :D
I love that the uxie entry kinda ties into mystery dungeon, because it was like a major plot point, in PMD explorers, that it might have done that to the main character

19:12 This is actually how blowfish in real life work.
Blowfish don't directly create the poison. Instead, the poison is created by bacteria that it obtains from its food.
21:30 I’m not certain about Hisui, but I suspect there would likely be nobility in Ecruteak at this time.
What about Kalos?!
There's also a milky way goddess that Bulbapedia thinks could have inspired Cresselia iirc
So what you're saying is they wanted her titty milk so badly that they created an entire smorgasbord of planets when they tried to get some?
I heard Heracles bit her boob.
Definitely wrong. How does Cresselia even remotely look like Hera? The plates look like Asian goddesses floating in the wind with their long drapes and dresses. Such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean legends. So it has most definitely nothing to do with Greek mythology. But nice try.
The Drifloon entry is made all the more interesting since you actually rescue a child from being taken BY a drifloon in the game

@@risky2166 Also true
Yeah, finally they made the dex entry actually true.
Wood cabins probablly are a lot easier to blow away than a house with a foundation in the ground.@@salmi2luccio
She doesn't even beileve that it WAS Chimchar she saw until you show her the lil dude at night.
thats actually really cool
*Trees*
20:23 Fighting has a type advantage against Ice. So maybe it being Fighting-type is symbolic of it building up endurance.
I don't think that's it. Endurance suggests resistance, but Fighting doesn't resist Ice. I might have gone for Steel.
No
2:14 it does explain. Normally, samurott has been known to use 1 slash and it’s done. This version has been influenced by the violence of the region, and thus needs to do multiple slashes to beat its opponents
I always thought is was just Laventon being poetic

Canadian here, there was a long period in Canadian history defined by the "fur trade" for beaver pelts. Beaver fur was highly valued by europeans(both settlers and across the ocean), and the First Nations peoples used the pelts in coats, pants, boots, etc... Snorlax being harmful in Husui makes me think that the reason they're so docile in modern games is due to selective breeding.
