  • Today's video is all about Aim Techniques, there's at least 4 distinct styles of shots that you can take in FPS games and as Overwatch is a hybrid game you often have to quickly swap between them. Today's video breaks down the difference between flick shots, drag shots, tracking and placed shots and when you should consider using them.
    When to use each shot:
FLICK: When you HAVE to instantly React
DRAG: When the enemy is slow, or in an easy to hit animation and you have time
TRACK: When the enemy is between animations, so you’re ready for an easy one
PLACE: When they’re unaware of you and you have lots of time
Hope the video helps guys! If you enjoyed it, please be sure to leave it a like and don't forget to subscribe and hit the bell icon to actually get notified when our videos go live!

This guide is pretty good but it's very hitscan-centric. I know Genji and Echo got some airtime but projectile characters like Mei and Pharah should get some love. I see a lot of Pharah players unable to hit rockets while grounded when they should be aiming at the feet. Same with Symmetra orbs. For Mei, one thing that really helped for me is the concept of circle strafing. Since she's usually much closer than most dps characters, circle strafing really helps set up her shots and the freeze while avoiding getting hit.

I got to top 500 playing McCree and soldier and Ashe and I used almost purely tracking aim which was quite fast tracking. I only had to flick when I had a tracer in me or something close range. Essentially I’m saying this guide is 100% correct on how to aim.

define young? if you are in your teens, expect to get much better in your early to mid 20s. only toward your early 30s you might expect to see an actual decline in performance. you are not playing on such a high level that you are expected to keep godlike aim, you will actually get better because even though your reaction time might be a little worse, you will be more cautious, your tracking will be more refined and you will do things you are now thinking consciously, unconsciously due to muscle memory.
I'm 32 and even though my flick and reaction time is worse now than it was 10 years ago, my aim and tracking has actually gotten better because of muscle memory, overall if I had a time machine and I got 22 year old me to play against me now, I'll beat 22 year old me no doubt.

Great video as always. I really like the fact that you talk about other Aim techniques. Most videos I watched about having good aim were about good sensitivity, how to flick and track. It really helps a lot that you talk about Drag and Tracking because I have the bad habit of flicking a lot even when I don't need to when I decide to play Mcree in dps (because I usually play support)
Btw what's the workshop code of the training ground you're using?

3:53 this is a really good aim game actually, maybe practice from slightly further out but they are moving quite realistically.
4:11 Also yes this could even be faster than flicking and more reliable, you don't need to slow down before the target and its actually possible to *see* when you're on your target with this and make corrections on your way to the target.
12:48 1) Don't commit with mobility to heros on high health with abilities up. 2) The video is 100% right, great explanation, says it better than I ever could. This is a point I'm massively weak on, especially at the low ranks I'm currently at you'll be surprised how many easy shots there are to practice on and you can transition that technique to your general disposition which you will see pros employ even with pro level threats.
13:51 Yes! I was almost screaming this at my screen! Take a little time to *AIM*.
I think you can tell so much about a player by just watching their gameplay and also what they think pros are by watching it, this genji seems to be overconfident, even arrogant and yet not actually have that much trust in his abilities which MASSIVELY hinders him I would imagine they also thinks its about his raw ability like the epic kill at 12:48 but really pros can be as little as 100ms quicker (which is a fair chunk granted) at getting on target and not much more precise than a lot of aimers like myself its just about improving 1 skill at a time bit by bit but they seem to think to get better/emulate the best you have to be as fast as them but really that's only what separates them from the people *almost* as good as them, its not what makes them so good. If you die cos you're too slow, don't sweat it, you can improve that when you have everything else in line, its maybe a 25% time save, whereas clearly when you watch this gameplay the players are going for 50% time save for 10% chance shots and what do you know, they are maybe 50% faster but 10 times less accurate then they could be after very little focused practice.
Its not just that technique improves aim in the short term by a ridiculous degree, its also that it allows you to get better more easily as you have a foundation to build from and don't build bad habits which, trust me, are really hard to break.
I think also I need to find someone who will do super high HP 1v1s with me but where we can take 30 second clips and reveiw our past 30 seconds or so to readjust our aim.
5:56 I just realised watching this I need to first get my crosshair near AND on the correct part of the y axis when I'm roughly level as I'm my vertical error is very low even if my horizontal error is quite high, this guy missing the correct y coordinate (if that makes any sense i.e. he's too high or too low a lot of the time) because he suddenly not only needs to go across but also up which is more complicated to do than just aim across. Otherwise his technique is good.

Freedo, I like your idea of drag shots and I understand why you think they are reliable, but click timing is way more reliable, click timing is essentially either tracking the character and clicking when you feel comfortable in hitting the shot, or looking at their movement and pre aiming the direction in which they are going and click when their head is at your crosshair, it is a very similar concept to what drag shots are and they are simply more reliable, great video though.

    • @OE-zv9gq

Every player you ever admired was a hard one trick which you as a Teammate avoided doing so you could help your teams comp. Now your skills are subpar on every hero because your time in them are splashed out.
Choose 1 hero and be a one trick. Once you master that hero use another hero. Dafran was a Tracer and soldier one trick because they both involve tracking.

4:32 NO. You never watch your crosshair. Not even with placed shots, tracking, or general "point and click" aiming. Maybe you meant this, but it came out differently, but if you're playing a DPS hero (at least hitscans, when you're trying to land primary fire) you are always looking at 1 of 3 things before and during a fight. 1) Directly at an enemy and targeting them. 2) At a corner/location an enemy is likely to appear. 3) Target acquisition.
Even if your crosshair is on top of an enemy, an inch away on screen, or extremely far from your crosshair, you always have your eyes on the enemy. Even in cases where your crosshair is on the enemy or extremely close, or you're aiming at a corner and waiting where your sight would technically be where your crosshair is, it is important that you are not concentrating on your crosshair. If someone peeks a corner and you're concentrated on your crosshair rather than the enemy who you can or can't see yet, your reaction time to the peek will be delayed. Most people that are frequent players of FPS games have a reaction time of between .2-.4 seconds. This accounts for both the mental recognition of a target and physically clicking their mouse. Concentrating on the crosshair makes that .5-.7 because you are reacting to 2 different things, and when focusing on the target, you pretty much react concurrently, but when focusing on the crosshair, you are reacting consecutively. It's kind of like the way you've described flicks. Consider this to be like a flick, just without any distance on it. If you're focused on your crosshair and waiting for someone to appear in it, you have that brief moment of mentally registering that someone is in the crosshair and then you fire, where as, if you are focused on an enemy appearing , it is immediate.

I agree with everything you've said, but I think your demonstration of drag shots would have been better performed on Ashe? Drag shotting calls back to snipers in CoD and other early FPS titles, and merges the process of placing your crosshair and scoping in; it's a way of speeding up your time to kill without sacrificing much accuracy. McCree and widowmaker don't quite capture the essense of drag shots, because you're not trying to save time taken to shoot someone with those characters - McCree fires instantly, and Widow's charge up time makes this useless. Also, being good at drag shotting is extremely useful when you're forced to make fast turns because you can purposely overshoot and click as your crosshair hits the target. I know I'm kind of clutching to a different context here, but it would make more sense visibly if done on Ashe and moving your crosshair as you scope. (just my opinion though)

You can also get into your own head. Im almost 30 and I started OW when I was 25-26 with horrible aim and game sense. I would never know what was going on.
Sometimes whats holding us back is just time and comfort. There are some older fps gamers out there that spend a lot of time at their "craft". Younger gamers spend more time playing, on average, than older gamers.
Nothing is black or white and I dont want people to think that age itself is the greatest limiting factor.
