Hey Richard, great video. I have the same bar dresser. I don't know if it makes any difference but I lightly use a flapper disc to remove the side burr first. I've found if there's much of a burr then the burr digs into the plastic when leveling the rails. I also use blue layout ink or even a sharpie on the rails before I start and really helps seeing the progress. Anyhoo, great content as always. The Bell Ray smell guy.
I looked at this tool from several vendors, but none of them show how to use it GOOD VID THANX! run a felt marker down the top of the rails before you start and you will easily see the low spots after filing
I have an old Craftsman that the top/bottom of the bar look decent but the tip, where the guide pins are, one side has a deep groove and the outer edge is higher then the groove. Is it possible to dress the tip on the bar without messing up the guide pins?
Just what I was looking for, this video. Thanks for sharing this. I know about doing this procedure, I just haven't had any luck the way I have been trying to do it. I have tried a file and a sander. My brother is a Logger so he does it good but I haven't had any luck. What is the name of the dressing tool ? Thank you
At the end of the day, it's metal against metal you'll have some wear over time. You'll have to inspect how well the bar oil your using is lubricating the bar and make sure the oiler is turned up to it's max setting. Maybe try a different brand if you're having excessive wear or manually add some while milling. What type of set up do you have?

Great video, especially taking the time for the close ups to show what's going on.
Excellent video! Be sure to brush away the filings when done. I’ve gotten some nasty metal splinters from this process.

Take a black sharpie and color the rail , you can really see it happen !
I like to pull the rail in first then true up with the pfeifer file jig....sharpie pen is a great idea will try that next time. Shoe in SW Oregon.
I need that guide.
Buddy
Love it but what's the name of the tool?

Bar dresser
Guide Rail Dresser
Should you pull the file instead of pushing when you file the other side so the file doesn’t get worn out?
Fireball Tool has a interesting video on back-dragging the file. I've always been told it would wear out the file too. I was enlightening.
Where did you pickup jig
Ordered it online. Just search Pferd bar dresser.
What causes the bar to wear? I get deep groves in my bar...I'm running a 76inch wide milling bar...
I appreciate your vids man!!

@@richardflagg3084 much appreciated 🙏 yea ill look into that forsure
if you throw a chain it can cause burs... lack of proper oiling also
A carpenters square pushed against the side of the bar with sandpaper on the short side and Bob is u uncle. Lots cheaper n effective!
Great idea
Love M.T.L Merci 😮
Thank you
Great video!
Where you buy the fancy dancy?
ok Richard, looks like I'm going to make a jig for me. 😁
The best tools are made in the shop. I like how you think.
