This is an intense schedule!!! My older kids do extra work!!! I don’t plan my older kids work, I tell them what’s expected and they plan it but they are 11, 12 and 15!!! The 11 year old is my nephew and he’s new to my homeschool so we are teaching him how to plan but he’s asking my twins so they are planning together as they do some work together!!!
That's so nice when you have older kids and you can just lay out those expectations. I'm just starting to enter that with my oldest but everybody else needs more of my help. 😅 Few more years, right? And then they'll all do independent work. 🤞🤞❤️❤️
My children are 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, and 13. Each child rotates through zones daily (bathroom, kitchen, living room, office, laundry, and dining room). I have to help my 6 and sometimes my 7 year old and just remind the older ones of all tasks in each zone. Mostly they tidy and sweep and mop each room.
Fabulous job planning all this! I have 6 kids too, but my oldest started attending public school mid-year last year. So I only experienced scheduling 6 kids for a little over a year. And at that time I was super disorganized and not much got done. This year, I started fresh, scheduling for the 5 I have at home. They're 13, 10, 7, 5 and 2. My 2 year old hasn't napped for months, so I need to have the olders help out watching her a bit during our active school time, mixed with time where we just have to try and include her and my super busy, often distracting 5 year old in our group stuff. It is challenging at times for sure. It's always nice to see how others manage their days. I came here from watching those fun videos about homeschoolers at the coffee shop and park, and have subscribed. Thanks for sharing your encouraging content, sister 💜
Yay 6 kids!! My 2 year old has decided he doesn't nap either. 🤦♀️ It has been okay so far and I love how early he goes to bed at night. But no naps can be rough some days--especially with daylight savings now. How is your school year going so far? Upcoming break for the holidays? ❤️
@@SummerMeyers Yes, it's definitely a challenge when they drop their nap. Our year is going pretty well so far. We started at the beginning of October so I could finish harvesting and preserving our garden. And then we've had a lot of life interruptions since beginning, which I have come to accept is just a normal part of homeschooling, at least for us. But despite that, I think it's going pretty well. Just rolling with the punches and doing our best. God bless you and your precious family, sister 💜
I have six children also and this year the range is from kindergarten - grade 10. Planning is definitely overwhelming. Thanks for sharing the way you do it! One chore I’ve had my older child do before is to give the bathrooms a quick wipe and tidy every morning.
Each of my children have a work box for independent subjects (math & language). We have a scheduled time to meet. They need to be ready to have work graded for the day at that time. We do other subjects (history, science, & electives) together.
Its smart to get the work graded. I'm terrible with this. I get them setup and then forget to follow through. 😅 Definitely need to find a system to keep up with it! ❤️❤️
A chore could be prepping lunch? Chop the veggies, pre-make sandwiches- maybe have her decide what lunch will be every day for the upcoming week prior to grocery shopping and add her items to the list 😊
I have 6 kids too, my youngest 6 months, and am in my 3rd year homeschooling. I've been working on our schedule/ routine and have rewritten it so many times now. Thanks or the tip to try post it notes!
Hey! My youngest just turned 5 months! That's fun! Sleeping okay? I have to keep reminding myself that eventually I will get a full night of rest. Somewhere in the distant future. 😆❤️
I love your humor and enthusiasm!! So when do you have time for you to do something you like or enjoy? Another question what are your favorite books to read?
🥰 Thank you! I typically get all my mom stuff done in the afternoon, and then my husband takes over after dinner and takes care of the kids so I can have some me time. And I'll read anything and everything! I just finished Winnie's Great War which is a phenomenal middle grade reader. I'm in the middle of, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou and The Physics of Einstein by Jason Lisle (which is a little above my pay grade but I'm working through it!) What are you reading? Any good recommendations?
@@SummerMeyers ah that's super awesome! Thanks for sharing...I only have 4 kids but sometimes it's a lot of me helping, putting them to bed and teaching...I love reading fiction usually but I also have a nonfiction and audio going at the same time. I just finished Lessons in Chemistry which was kind of funny and maybe I needed a laugh. Before that what stands out is The last house on the Street by Diane Chamberlain, The last bookshop in London by Madeline Martin and I have been trying to read all of Charles Martin's books...I have not read any of the books you mentioned!
Only nothing! 4 kids is a lot of something!! My older two are 12 & 10 and I would definitely not be able to do all things I wanted to do without a significant amount of help from them. 😅 When we had 4, there was a lot of me juggling all the things because my kids were all still little. Fortunately the season passed, maybe a little worn down. Hang in there! Time is both the blessing and the curse, right? Kids get older and need less of us, and then we long for the days when they did. And only if we had more hours in the day to do all the things, and then my mom is telling me she just has all these empty hours where she doesn't have anything to do. Moms lead full lives, sometimes overflowing. ❤️❤️
@@SummerMeyers SO true Summer! My oldest is about to be 12 and then I have 9 year old twins so it's always an adventure. There are days where they are more needy than others and days where they keep occupied! Did I miss what you use for your morning time?
Not very often. My goal is giving them enough time to learn how to do them properly and then owning it. My littles need a lot more time practicing then my big kids, and rather than relying on my big kids, I stick with one chore for several months. ❤️
So funny story, I actually passed it along to a homeschool family and couldn't remember what it was called. I was sure it was out of print, but I just did a quick search AND I FOUND IT! 😱 I've got it linked in the description box now. Fair warning: she had some pretty strong opinions about wives being submissive. Gave me and the husband a good chuckle, but it might annoy others. ❤️❤️

Middle school life skill/ chore ideas:
•laundry
•prep lunch/dinner
•bathroom clean up
👏👏 Yes!! I love it! Especially meal prep--wouldn't it be dreamy to have a Crock-Pot ready to go every morning?

Very well done! I have nothing on your organization skills! LOL very impressive!

Lol… yes… the 9 year olds’ brains explode after 30 mins of math :)
That's the truth! 😆🤯❤️

@@SummerMeyers 😂I'm sure! Great job!
Wait - what's the name of that super secret book??
By the way - you are amazing! ❤️
It's out of print! 😭 It was just a spiral book mom found somewhere--pretty sure it was self published. I should have mentioned that somewhere. 🙈❤️
it was the book Mardeana gave me…

@@SummerMeyers I bought that same book when I went to my first curriculum convention when I was 40. We had kids late in life.
Neat! So you're already familiar with it! I figured it came out in the 90s but it says it was published 2001, so not that long ago.
LIfe skils, plan meals within a budget and make meals for all lunches or breakfest....
