When the sun had set and putting an end to soccer in the park, and the had-to-do school work was completed, out came the chemistry set, the telescope, and books on physics, chemistry, biology, and cosmology. That was my childhood in the 80s and 90s. My chem set featured real chemicals, real flames, real equipment, an audio casette, and an educational guidebook. I suppose that my parents assessed my existing knowledge and maturity and rightly concluded that I wouod heed the warnings such as not eat the pretty blue crystals (copper sulfate) or directly inhale the curious brown fumes (aluminum bromide) rising out of the test tube. Aside from an extra arm growing out of my neck, I turned out fine.

For storage, I plan to store the styrofoam inserts in a plastic storage bin from Walmart.

So good. If you haven’t already read “The Child Is the Teacher” by Christina de Stefano, please do!! She goes into so much more detail in both what was covered here and far beyond! Also, just want to acknowledge that Montessori stayed aligned with peace and human goodness vs. fascism. Huge win for us all there through her strong internal compass.

What do you do when the baby starts moving? My youngest started eating solids on his own around 4 months, walking at 8 months and is all over the place now by 11 months.

amazing for such a young person she has nailed my experiences from the 1970s! Time we remembered why we became parents and how to inspire our children.

I work in a real one room school house and it’s hard to give everyone what they need. It’s super hard and you’re working with other people’s kids as well as your own many times!

Thank you so much for your videos, they have been so informative! My twins are going into 2nd grade this year and we’ve used The Good and Beautiful math since preschool and they did very well with it. I plan to switch to Right Start this year for 2nd grade but I’m wondering whether I should begin with Level C or go back to Level B to help them re-learn those foundational concepts that are so important! I will give them a placement test but I feel like even if they know the concept they may not understand what’s behind it, which makes me think it may be worth it to go back a year to Level B. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

For homeschooling we don't need fancy things to be done or material to buy. It's simpler and natural way of learning based on our values that basically facilitates our child to persue his /her own interest.

You’re hilarious 😅 Thanks for the review. I’m all over the place finding curriculum for my 2nd grader! Last year we did Singapore/Dimensions Math but wanted something else. I also checked out Math Mammoth but RightStart seems more fun…I did the placement test on their website and got Level C but with your review I’m not so sure anymore. She doesn’t know all her facts and has never added or subtracted more than two digit numbers. She loves and enjoys math so I’m confident she’ll learn fast but still wondering if Level C is way ahead. My daughter is 7

9:27 this story brought me to tears. Because I also was setting my grandparents garage carpet on fire. But I got in huge trouble. And now that I realize, that there were more instances growing up where my inner scientific curiosity got me in trouble, and no one stopped to notice that all I needed was safety and a chemistry set. It took me into my late 20s to find out that I love science and I am now in college obtaining my microbiology degree.

Fantastic review!! Thank you for the balanced, reasonable, fair minded approach in a too often reactionary, close minded world. Fully agree that highschool age students deserve to hear multiple positions presented objectively.

Excellent video, thank you! We love RightStart but I have been going nuts trying to decide if it’s a good start for my TKer (he’s very math inclined but loves all the cute colorful stuff! Which..as we know, RightStart lacks). In the end though, it’s the math that matters and in my opinion, RightStart is phenomenal. If I find that he needs something a bit more “fun”, what do you think about MWC? Also, I feel like you would love the math from The Beauty of Play✨

I will have an advanced 2nd grader and slower learning 4th grader. I’m feeling guilty that we never finished level C last year. Do you think it would be okay to jump to level D so my oldest isn’t so far behind? We started RSM after leaving math u see when my oldest couldn’t understand the concepts outside of the blocks. I found it because of you!!!! Thank you!

Just starting with my 7.5 year old twin boys! We’re doing a couple of lessons a day right now. I assume this will slow down as the lessons get trickier. They’re definitely beginner readers. So far nothing else has worked!!
