Ya, you should have used an STI rear subframe. Comes with the solid bushings too and proper R180 diff mount. Have a brake line shop make new hard lines for the 15 rack so it fits.
Always excited to watch some gc content since it’s a relatable platform to my gd wrx that just sent all the rod bearings to the gulag since the td04 decided to eat all the oil in 3 days. It’s what makes a Subaru a Subaru
for the six speed you need the rear gd crossmember the 6 speed transmission crossmember which sits lower the the 5 speed if your not using it it's probely why your hitting the chassis (i assumed you where using all 6 speed stuff or I would of brought it up before) , a 6 speed drive shaft or automatic drive shaft. if using an 08+ trans you need the iwire kit to get speed readout. Look up The Six Speed Swap Thread. on rs25. I a 02 gd rear 20mm oem swaybar and oem bushings fits fine in the stock bracket. hope doggy is doing better
The only RS part I’m using is the rear crossmember. Some people say they have no issues. Others seem to have this issue. I’ve been told that a Carbon driveshaft fits without issue too. BUT I already powder coated and swapped all the bushings in the RS one so I kinda wanna stick with it 😅 But I did get an Auto driveshaft so I might swap that in with the R160 pinion flange

I BELIEVE you can get the driveshaft cut, extended and rebalanced, ask your local driveshaft shop, if you have one. Also Ive been telling people about getting their hardware zinc plated, its nice to use oem hardware that you dont have to worry if its actually the rating that is stamped on it with aftermarket hardware
Definitely care about mochi. And I'd suggest going to your local driveline shop, they can modify or build you one for faily cheap and fast. Some can even build you a single piece carbon one
I am sure someone has commented about this, but you needed to use a gd subframe in the back and all the GD rear diff and drive shaft stuff will bolt up..
Love the rx7 pov drive. Idk why but i find it so funny driving a rx7 to a mazda dealership because its so different to what they sell now, so those who know what it is really know and the others are probably like "thats a mazda?" Lol

9:58 - can you bend your own hard lines for the rack? 🤔 I had the same issue with my rack on my mustang. One of the lines was rubbing the front sump of the oil pan. 💪
I’d also recommend finding the 85 rx turbo manual quick ratio steering rack out of all the subarus my 85 rx turbo I kept the stock rack I. It cuz it was the quick ratio rally steering rack. Manual steering. It feels so good driving and racing. And it fits in the gc8 for sure. Since I have a 04 sti cross member with the 85 steering rack in it
Interesting watching this series and the differences between the 2.5RS and the JDM v4 STi Type R. I'm currently doing a similar restoration in Australia on my JDM imported 98 v4 STi Type R and it is factory R180.
I'm in the middle of 6-speed swapping my LGT. Atleast with my conversion, I use either 4EAT drive shaft or Spec-B. I would assume if the 2.5rs came with a 4EAT in some models, you could use that. The 4EAT is the same size as the STi 6-speed.
Get a PRS quick steering rack, the stock is just too slow! And, again, on the top hats. The fronts should be the GD. If installed correctly you can setup camber and caster.

My dad and uncle sold the 20k og car for 1000 bucks and the guy drove accross the country in 1 day to buy it. I was like you guys are idiots. Mint og rx3 for 900 bucks. The guy talked my dumb ass dad down 100 bucks, and probably laughed all the way home.

5th gear 2800 rpm is almost 60. Sucks to do 55 because they don’t like it. Forcing you to go back to fourth gear being loud and obnoxious. But that’s ok because it’s Fd. You can always use Google maps app on your phone btw. It tells you your speed by satellite ;)

RX7 story from Japan, a 70+ year old lady had one, the eponymous "one little old lady owner" and I guess she must have put it on auction because it was Mazda Japan vs around 40 other bidders and Mazda won. Unfortunately none of the articles say what they paid.
Yes but you have to drill all the holes for 1/2” then ream them with a .5005 reamer. You can make decent power but your efficiency range will run out quick with stock cams. You might get valve float too with stock springs depending on how far your revving it out. At minimum I would do springs and retainers

FYI! The key code is stamped on one of the door lock Cylinder. That is if the ignition key is the same.

Why didnt you just use a GDB rear subrame? Its a 10x better subframe over the GC era one.
I was told the GC one would work no problem so I just kept it and completely refinished it 😂

Mooresport has a solution for the steering lines. You certainly can run that rack. I'm running one in my 2003 WRX
The issue is not the lines, it’s where the lines enter the rack. There is not enough room between the rack and subframe to get a fitting & line in it

The 6 speed is the only Subaru swap that takes some serious re engineering on the older cars.
Tanner get some Plastruct PPC-2 for your 3d printed PLA parts. Gives it a better finish and bonds the PLA better.
I’ll look into it and get some ordered. Never heard of it before so I’ll check it out 🫡

I’ve done the same swap but I used a GD rear subframe and didn’t remember running into any issues

Instead of swapping drive shaft and pinion what about making an aluminum or steel spacer to make up the difference between the drive shaft and pinion?
Probably best to go with a custom built, carbon fiber, driveshaft that bolts right in with your current set up.

Because the 6 speed with the 17 sti is gonna be backwards are the gears flipped as well?? Like 1st is gonna be where 6 is?
We will use a reverse pinion. That will make 1-6 reverse gears driving it forward 👌
