The VIBES were on point with Benny. Showing your work and sharing experience with someone who also knows what your doing and have a genuine interest in is one of the best feelings there is. And his response when you ask if he sees anything "ah you know what you're doing now you're just second guessing yourself" - what a mate.
Having been taught by Al, Miles, Benny, Scott and Dave for years... if they didn't know what they were doing by now they would be certifiably stupid :P
I've been watching for years, and the content has always been awesome, but I'd like to point out how Marty, Moog, and all the regular "guests" are so quick to give props to each other. It is great to see. You're all legends.
My grandma passed today. The fact that I can go watch a brand new MCM video and put my mind somewhere else is saving me right now. Thank you Marty and Moog! ❤
We are being spoilt this week 🥰🥰🥰 I just wanted to say thank you for what you do not only on the tubes but for mental health. This time of year, as we are all aware of, can be a shit time of year for many different reasons so again thank you Marty and Moog and your small crew for allowing us to escape even if for a short moment in the day/week.
So happy to see a mid-range turbo build that will have good response on the street and be a blast to drive. The huge turbo's that don't come alive until well past 4000 can be fun when they're up and spooled but getting there a pain in street driving. The blue car is a really nice example of well engineered.
True, it reminds of 300+hp Fiesta ST I once drove. it gave nothing until it hit over 4000rpm. great for sprints on the straights, but when it came to mid range it actually had less power than my stock ECU Fiesta ST. Ah the good old times.
Port spray of fuel and nitrous set to kick in above certain boost/load/IAT’s would also cool the charge down nicely without hacking the body for a front mount 👀.
MCM: im not sure me: me either *benny shows up* me: oh fuck benny: you know what youre doing me: yeah you guys know what youre doing *sweating buckets*
Not sure if I've posted this before, but I've got a sweet SV21 Camry I picked up for $200 in July. I am going to be swapping a 5SFE and new A140E trans into it, both reman, doing a suspension recondition and going to daily it. Just about to hit 300k miles, burns oil like no other, but has ZERO rust and minor panel damage. Might film it for "My Crap Car". Love the Subaru, much love from the US
Bakemono makes high riser GC scoops, if Marty wanted to open the hoodcoops smidge. It retains OEM form. It's a nice OEM+ piece! So, nice to finally see this back! I just finished my GM8 build too. Highly recommend a BCP X500R for a stock location turbo upgrade. These things spool up sooo quickly and they're capable of great power.
@mightycarmods If you're actually considering using a bigger turbo how about checking out Socalporting instead. I've met and had him rebuild one of my turbos and his work is top notch quality, he's a stand up guy and what he can do with vf turbos is amazing. Not to mention the guy is an actual subaru enthusiast
The lack heatshield around the down pipes had me on edge when you mentioned burning smells. Why risk all that custom engine loom work over the cost of some aluminium heat shield material and an hour or two shaping it and making brackets?
Got It Rex in Melbourne sell a custom fabricated intercooler splitter for the larger intercooler. I also ran one of those High Octane air boxes on my 99 WRX back in 2010. Awesome to see they are still selling them.
water cooled intercooler may help have consistently lower temps. maybe you could do a myth busters episode on one of the cars. but i love this build. it looks so good. great work as usual.
Love your work Marty, you guys have had a great influence on me over the past few years, and I started to do oil changes and even changed my brake pads. I'm excited today as l'm hoping to pick up my 2020 Subaru wrx. I wish you guys all the best for Xmas, and I can't wait to watch a lot more shows.
So good. 10/10. If the water spray doesn't keep the temps under control at the track, you could try a water-air intercooler to avoid having to cut up the front bar.
I know everyone hates on Subarus and there are some good reasons for that. The smiles on Marty's face this ep are testament that on a low budget, you get big bang for your buck.
Dam I love ❤️ this car !!! Killer job Marty and huge shoutout to Dave’s wiring masterpiece what a great friend !!! Tuning fork is a legend, man I could listen to him all day !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
Perfect street weapon, my 2006 wrx has a vf35 and comes on boost at 3000. Only makes 176kw at the wheels but you're always on boost which makes it a blast to drive. Love the build!
I used the rear sprayer pump in my Gen3 GTB on the TMIC cause it still worked but it leaks between the bottle and the rear window. Just for heat soak in the traffic works a treat and its just triggered by using the rear spray on the stalk
10:22 I remember when the first 2 door STI was delivered to our dealership. I get to do the pre-delivery on them. It was one of my favourite Subaru's way back then.
I would suggest getting a larger under-hood intercooler duct (replace or modify). The scoop being small doesn't matter that much because if you're doing 100MPH on a track and the area of the duct below the hood line is double the size of the scoop above the hood line then that under-hood airflow will just drop in speed (Bernouli) and therefore give it more time flowing through the intercooler itself. Right now it just seems like only a portion of that "big core" is being used also the spray bars spraying forwards isn't ideal, Subaru pointed them backwards for a reason the mas of water being ejected out of the scoop at low speeds hinders airflow into the scoop, and while at high speeds the effect is lessened water still has ~830 times more density, to the point fire crews can extinguish fires by spraying water *away* from doors and windows which starves the fire of air, same thing.
I love this so much! As the owner of a USDM RS that's 205 swapped, making 275/268 HP/TQ (on a slow VF22) I know I've done well! Now I just need the 6MT/R180 combo so i can turn it up!
I remember back in the early 2000's a friend having a big HP bugeye STI. He did a front mount with a nitrous sprayer on the intercooler. Was insane and the nitrous would essentially freeze the air going into the manifolds.
I ran a big turbo twinscroll with 270ish kw on 98, it was so punchy in the midrange and responsive too Loved the sound up high too, is proper. They love a mild cam
Really a spot in my heart for the gc8. The 2dr small cars i like the Dodge Shadow turbo was right behind on my list with the 5.0 mustang 2dr coupe right above
Maybe look into an "interchiller" that uses the AC lines to help drop intake temperatures The AC still works as normal and there shouldn't be any cutting required Im not very familiar with them so they may be 💩🏠 or unsuitable
The scene where Scotty and marty are sitting in the car at the dyno. Looks like Scotty is the stepdad and he’s talking to a stepson about being too rude to his mom.
I definitely like the idea of enjoyable power and quick spooling responsive turbos but I think you could get away with a slightly bigger back housing without losing a lot of response. Maybe one day in the future. Love the car and keep us the hustle. Cheers from the US.
Water-to-air intercooler on top and heat exchanger in front? I know nothing about Subies but I'd think a heat exchanger would be much easier to fit up front, instead of a THICK air-air intercooler. Great build! Can't wait for the Christmas chopping!
i'm wondering if the water kit also takes into account that the intercooler is hotter on the intake side. does it spray equal or does it have different nozzles .?
Only issue with the haltech spraying the intercooler when it needs it. Just had to keep an eye on the water level otherwise you might burn out the water sprayer pump
I was watching another channel just yesterday and they used a method that uses AC to cool the intercooler water coolant on the air intake. They were seeing air intake temps of 10°C down from normal operating temp of 40°C on a Dodge Charger Hellcat.
The Hex spray looks great, I have 8 fogger nozels going around the edge of my intercooler on a high presure pump on my s40 (twinscroll) but didnt see any difference only around 2c drop. Going to try the Hex looks like a nice kit not badly priced too. Nice you got you got the STI going before christmass too. My Car is playing the banjo song, which one is going to leak next. Im not worried about the head gaskets more rods haha. Moog sounded sounded like the 180 owners back in the early 2000's then they cry when get choped :P
"4 variable cams"! Man, piston engines are so complex. I'm interested to see your experience with the 13B-REW. Rotaries are so much simpler, especially if you swap out the twin turbos for a modern single.
She needs a better single scroll turbo. I say a Borg Warner EFR 6258 and you can still keep the top mount. If you want an OEM turbo. Get a VF48 of a 2015+ STI
The vf49 turbo they used is essentially the same as a vf48 just twin scroll version, I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a 2.5 it’s struggling to make more power with more boost, but I have a jdm grb sti with an ej207 that comes standard with a vf49 and in stock form it hits 22psi
@@brandondcruz9010 my VF48 holds more boost on the high end on my EJ25 at 16-17psi and flattens out. His is falling off to 12psi. I would rather have the EFR 6258 if it was me.
I really want to see this thing with an equal length header and just a slightly bit bigger turbo. Or that stock one get ported and some better wheels put on it.
Instead of using the water spray system could you make something like the aftermarket hellcat upgrade system that connects into the cars air-conditioning to cool the top mount intercooler ? I watched LSC install the system on his car seemed like a really good system cooled the charged air down alot.

Hello.. Are you guys doing the Christmas Day special this year? I absolutely love them.
The VIBES were on point with Benny. Showing your work and sharing experience with someone who also knows what your doing and have a genuine interest in is one of the best feelings there is. And his response when you ask if he sees anything "ah you know what you're doing now you're just second guessing yourself" - what a mate.
best part of the whole episode, i felt that at my core. Bravo lads!
Absolutely agree. I felt that too
Benny is the biggest G of the whole MCM family. Which is a crazy talented group of folk
Build DAVEO a car! We owe him.
Davo the datto
Evo
That's got me wondering now, what does Dave drive? What's his vehicle of choice?
a car FULL of wires
@@woopimagpie iirc, he has an evo wagon
Having Benny tell you you know what your doing, don’t second guess yourself is the highest compliment. Congratulations Martin!!!

@@andersjjensenI wonder if that goes for Moog haha I think he’s got intakes just about sorted by now 😉

Not any guest, Mechanical Stig was a staple 🙂
I love Benny , “you know what your doing you just second guess yourself” what a beauty
Definitely going to use that line with the boys at work 😂
Dave, Scotty, Al, Moog, Marty are the MCM boys ….but to see Benny on the show you know it’s a premium Subaru build
My grandma passed today. The fact that I can go watch a brand new MCM video and put my mind somewhere else is saving me right now.

I’ll suggest that you 3D print a couple of nozzle diverters to point the mist down to harvest all the benefits of the water spray
Yep that’s a great idea!
Certainly better than blinding yourself by spraying the windshield LOL
Having it spray out a bit is part of the display like nos spray at the tree
Port spray of fuel and nitrous set to kick in above certain boost/load/IAT’s would also cool the charge down nicely without hacking the body for a front mount 👀.

Benny and Dave nerding out over the engine install is a joy to watch.
4:08 Hold up, wait a minute! Did Benny just say "that WAS a sick car"?
I really hope that doesn't mean it's gone.
I hope he just meant Levoeg with the EJ25 and STi driveline, not the entire car. Right? Riiiiiiight? 🥺

What’s the performance gain using water v the weight of water? (Assuming it’s a separate tank just for the spray).
Weight of the water is negligible. It's more about protection over performance gains.
