Are we the first yacht here? - Undiscovered cruising grounds - Ep.89
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 жов 2024
- Sailing through difficult reef passages, balancing the risk of being shipwrecked versus the reward of discovering new cruising grounds and amazing turquoise water lagoons. This is what exploring means to us, something that makes us nervous but also excited. These remote islands in the Indian Ocean off of West Sumatra - Indonesia, are an undiscovered gem of the cruising world.
We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

You guys just get better and better at telling the story. The quality of your film is exquisite and as a yachtsman I yearn to follow in your footsteps. Life is for living, exploring and adventuring and you really are leading the way. I cannot thank you enough.
Hello,
I am Bintoro again, am Indonesian
I used to think I have been traveling almost to all corners of my country by visiting all 34 provinces here.
But after I watch your good quality videos, I change my mind . . . . .
Your excellent videos take us to the places that dreams are made of. Only a few other experiences in life could connect one to all creation like this place. Getting there by your own effort makes it that much more special. No commercialism. No infrastructure. Just Nature.
Wow. Wow. Wow. You open our eyes to paradise. Truly blessed with the beauty of our wonderful planet.
Best sailing video on the internet. Brilliant!!!
This video was 10 out of 10. Your filming and editing skills are highly professional.
Definitely your lockdown clips in Indonesia are by far your best ones!
Cheers
Lovely video! What a fantastic find! Well done getting there and thank you for sharing it with us on video!
Its a pleasure to watch your videos. Thank you
Beautiful film. It's a privilege to have you show us these places.
Merry Christmas Matt and Amy from the USA. 👍
Thank you. Merry Christmas to you too, we hope you have a good one :-)
It’s great to watch a strong team working well together to explore these stunning islands and share with us
Can we take a moment to appreciate all the people who made those satellite images possible, I'm in awe of the olden day sailors who had no such luxury as GPS or satellite imagery. Personally, I have always wanted to sail to Nikamaruru (Gardner Island) consensus would have us believe it is where Emilia Airheart crash-landed.
What a beautiful episode! The challenge makes the reward.... so true. And you keep challenging yourselves, wherever you are. Great sailing... and excellent video making!
ROCKING THE COOLEY HAT!!!
Excellent video!
Thanks for showing us places of the world we may never get to see!!!
One can simply NOT articulate what the emotions are exploring new worlds.. especially turquoise waters and solitude.. thanx for sharing
Sailing Yacht Florence.
Gold Standard ⭐️
Thank you for sharing your joy and enthusiasm for this distant, uncharted place in the world! Thank you for taking me along!
Just stunning images in this video. I love the one still photo of you dancing.
I love the way you guys search out these kinds of anchorages. Secluded, white sand beaches completely untouched are exactly the reason to sail. Great video.
New yachty gear to invent: a depth gauge that uploads your GPS coordinates and depth to help make more accurate charts! Love the videos!
One of the best sailing videos in the internet! Beautiful and interesting. Go on & fair winds!
@9:30; Wow! Beautiful still frame! (Fantastic lighting, composition AND subject!) 👍👍 😉
Superb photography and amazing drone footage, top marks. I love the Indonesian hat .
Absolutely incredible :)))
you know you guys are the best youtubers about sailing around good luck on your trip and best wishes
that's kind, thank you!
@@SailingYachtFlorence Michael is right you guys do an excellent job sharing your adventures

Wait she doesnt curse that much!
@@roscopico LOL, I read that 3 times to figure out what you were talking about. I need to turn off the auto correct.
I'm starting to think that the Covid shenanigans has worked in your favour. Your journey is the adventure of a lifetime!! Thanks for sharing it with us.
I always enjoy ur videos
Florence is such a beautiful boat. Simple nice lines .. white and super nice blue paint and sails.. I feel at peace and inspired by you three . AND LOOK WHERE TRIO ENDS UP WOW... World Of Wonder so fine !!!
I watch a few sailing channels. Yours is by far my absolute favourite. Thank you for your lovely videos.
Amazing episode😊
I can only wish to visit that paradise. Merry Christmas!
Not only are you both incerdible saliors but your drone work, editing and cinematography are ABSOLUTLY STUNNING!!! Followed your entire journey. Love your channel...BTW you both look as cool AF
Beautiful spot! Glad you were allowed to explore. Thank you for sharing.
Hi U2, It's New Years Eve here in Edinburgh as I spend hours trawling through Boatshop24 for my first yacht (I'm ex-power suffering from SGS - Sustainability Guilt Syndrome). It's -2C, snowing like the clappers and I can barely see the northern banks of the Firth from my Leith apartment & we've been in lockdown for almost a week (Xmas day excepted).
Amid this strife your vids inject a ray of sunshine & I want to thank you for it.
Be good, be safe, take risks, keep looking and who knows, one day I'll get to shake your had in some far-off anchorage.
Stunning absolutely stunning. 👍
Merry Christmas to you both. 🙏. Your experiences that you take us along on are Awesome! Thankyou 🙏
Thank you , Merry Christmas to you too Veronica :-)
@17:15; Nice tack! (Nicely done!) Looks like you two have done some racing together! 😉
What a fantastic video, thank you for sharing this spectacular looking place. Particularly enjoyed the drone footage and music choices. xx
Brilliant video. Thank you.
Every time, brilliant !!
Thanks for sharing your adventure and showing us that adversity also creates oportunities.
What a beautiful place ... I’m so surprised you anchored sooooo close ... Crazy, but incredible ... Good job guys! 👍🏻👊🏻✌🏻
Hi Todd, we motor in a circle to check the depths and then drop the anchor in the middle of the circle so we know we have good swinging room. Also here any bad weather tends to come from the NW and in that anchorage it would be blowing us offshore (and we would be nicely protected, it happened one night there and all was good).
Always beautiful videos! I have seen them all!
Absolutely beautiful… I’m talking about Amy😍
I'm watching you enjoying tropical paradise while it's sub-freezing cold and snow here in Wisconsin USA. All the best Amy and Matt for a Happy Christmas and a happy New Year! I hope you'll be able to start your long-delayed Indian Ocean crossing soon.
Merry Christmas to you too Tom. We are hoping to set off across the Indian Ocean in May, we have to wait until then to avoid the cyclones. Hopefully borders will have re-opened by then. Cheers M&A
great video! You made Lemonade out of lemons. kudos
I want to wish you two happy holidays. Thanks for all your videos and efforts you put into making these. I love you two, and hopefully, one day, we'll meet us in an anchorage somewhere on this planet. Stay safe and healthy. Greetings from Germany!
👍🏼👍🏼Epic anchorage’s. Awesome video. Greetings from Northern California. As a surfer and lover of adventures Indonesia is definitely on my bucket list, but for now thank you for the vicarious adventures. As soon as I finish one of your videos I look forward to the next one. You guys make the best video’s on UA-cam imho. Happy holidays. Cheers
Love your commentary!! Great video and spectacular anchorages!! Lucky you, you are all by yourself!!
Incredibly professional video. The drone footage has also brought a whole new dimension . Top quality entertainment, light years above similar cruising youtubers, well done guys !
Brilliant video by a brilliant couple. So connecting to see others enjoying the sailing so much and enjoying the places. Going to blow 40knts here in Jersey tonight so hopefully my friend (I only have one.. 🤣) will move my boat for me as I am at home waiting for my day 10 test....... Just wonderful, thanks.
Fantastic video. You guys are really inspiring Helen and I to start our adventure early!!
Amazing. Great photography!
Think we need to see Amy’s epic shell collection, keep livin the dream guys!
Another great video you guys always do a cracking job
We're becoming accustomed to things like 'lockdowns' at home , so seeing you guys doing this is really unnerving but fantastic, thank-you!
We had a very strict lockdown here at the start of the pandemic (the reason we did not cross the Indian Ocean this year) but now there are very few restrictions. We hope the situation improves with you soon.
Thanks for another interesting video. Wishing you a very merry Christmas and happy New year
Thank you. Same to you!
You are trying to gain special life experience, to learn the best way of exploring your life till the death comes. It sounds complicated, too complicated, but it is not. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I have a dream to read your memories from a journey - "Sailing Florence from London or of Elbląg ( so sailing on the Baltic See, to an unknown area of the Zalew Wiślany. The Zalew Wiślany is not crystal clear, but you may have special extraordinary time).
Inspiring. Keep up the good work.
Hi guys! Loving your spirit of adventure! In these situations the drone must be an absolute godsend for threading your way through reefs and shoals! Thank goodness for the crystal clear water though!
Keep up the fantastic work guys! Loving it! 😉
Loved that, thanks.
Sounds to me like you two need to make some sketches of the anchorages you visit, take some bearings and depths, and pull together a cruising guide of your own. You could even make a little money off of it! I love your videos. Great job.
Thank you but in some ways that would spoil the adventure; part of the adventure is finding places like this for yourself.
@@SailingYachtFlorence Ah, yes, there is that sense of adventure...and yet you have cruising guides on your own boat for a reason. And as you pointed out, you have only scratched the surface of the possible anchorages in the area, so those that follow can still blindly explore. Having a book published, and another source of income, is quite an accomplishment. You two are very capable of doing such a thing. Fair winds!
Beautiful. Really enjoyed that episode. Well done.
Simply stunning video again. What a beautiful place. Such a remote place. I love it that you are challenging your sailing and navigation skills to get to some of these islands. Have you considered using the drone to get a look up ahead while coming into these remote bays? Really enjoying your videos, observations, motivations and zest for exploring and experiencing life. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing! Must be the best video i have ever seen of many many sailing ⛵️ videos: its a bit more isolated than the Solent! Wonderful stuff. Well done to you both!
Reminds me of Caribbean cays/keys in many ways. But, like you said- if you weren't 'stuck' due to COVID- you never would've found these spots! What a whimsical find. I bet there are other hidden gems like this, say near- Vanuata, Fiji, French Polynesia, Tonga (obvious), etc...
The balance between keeping yourselves/Florence safe vs. exploring/pushing the envelope- I think you've done a fine job of integrating technology & testing your skills visually. It's nerve wracking to threaten yourself with balmies! Heck, even soft sand groundings scare me.
Another great video thanks
One of your best adventures yet so beautiful
Scrolling ... Ah, a Florence video. I've probably seen it ... Holy shit! 5 hours ago!
Beautiful !!!
Breathtaking!
This video has truly made me question our sailing in the Mediterranean 😥. So jealous ❤️❤️❤️
Looks amazing! thanks, cant wait for may then we are off on our own adventure
Wow, What super footage of a stunning set of locations. I love your videos and best wishes for a Happy Christmas and hope you get across the Indian Ocean in 2021. Stay safe from the UK
Quite spectacular and Merry Christmas
Simply stunning

Happy Happy Holidays to you both!!fair winds!!

Wearing the Scarborough Marina hat, where my boat is!
What a fantastic destination, it is a must go to for me. Thank you for showing us this, it is just the place I have been looking for..
Wow, amazing video and what an awesome find, I suppose while COVID has changed your plans you've luckily ended up in an area which has so many opportunities for you guys to explore. Thanks for sharing the adventure with us!
Absolutely beautiful!
Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
Thank you! You too!
Awsome place where you are. A real paradise! Thanks for the great video
Lovely video

That was amazing! Your best video so far.
Fabulous
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Find a fine and picturesque anchorage and have time of prayer and adoration of our "tiny" Lord.
Yae, both of you are great commentators, who is the winner, ex aequo (???) for sure.
Wow. Amazing footage. One of your best videos so far.
...It also helps immensely to have a high-cut foot on the Genoa, to avoid having to skirt! 😁
Merry Christmas guys, love your videos!!
This is so beautiful not exactly far away from me but still quite a distance you guys and catalpa or life on the sea show these amazing spots that just being curious can take you to such beautiful places great job aye
You guys are amazing!! Love your vids.
Its almost my turn to head off.
3:56 - Do depth gauge readings from all the sailing vessels ever get recorded and collated? I feel like humanity is missing a trick in crowd-sourcing ocean-topography...
