  • Running Florence aground and a final test of our diving skills. It's not always easy, but it is worth it. We take a weekend break from our diving course to explore the deserted but difficult cruising grounds off of West Sumatra, before returning for our final dive of the course and a challenge. Can we find the sunken wreck of an old sailing boat, on our own?!?
We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

Well done, diving is an amazing hobby.

I actually felt a bit envious of you on that beautiful island amongst that gorgeous scenery for the weekend with great weather and no special plans !
You will probably find like most people that the Padi Open Water Diver certificate is perfectly adequate for most daytime, shallow water diving and just stay at that level although you can take a few short specialty courses which will give you more confidence and a broader range of knowledge, they are well worth looking up when you get the chance.
If you want to do deeper dives and night dives and generally bring your skills to a higher level the Advanced coarse does just that, you really get a feeling of achievement from that one and it gives a real boost to your confidence.
What have you changed about the video settings, I can't quite put my finger on it ? The image has less red overall, it seems the camera still set on underwater settings but it's the same with the drone shots, did you compensate in post production for the mismatched levels between underwater shots and shots in air ?

I would think that your new talent in diving should be very useful if ever the anchor snagged on something.
I have been quite concerned about that since the beginning, but now you should have more confidence when having to drop anchor in deeper water.
