You can see that on bullies, they almost never remember what they did to their targets while the victims usually remember every single thing vividly. You can see that in other relationships too, romantic ones. Even friends. I had one friend who was treating me terribly when we had a talk over it, she was completely clueless :"wait, what did I do?, I said that? I am sorry, everything is just very blurry in my memory. But is could not have been that bad." It is a coping mechanism because we don't ever want to be the bad guy in our own narrative. So we tend to just forget or romanticise our own actions. It is quite a selfish act as well.

That's not even close to what happened? You could see he felt genuinely terrible that it went unresolved and he was kinda taking it in for a moment. She saw he was in pain and instinctively said "I'm sorry". She wasn't apologizing to him, she was more saying "I'm sorry you're in pain". He didn't guilt her into saying/doing anything. He just cares about her and regrets doing what he did, and she cares about him and doesn't like seeing him in pain.

People tend to forget when they did something bad over a longer period of time. You can see that on bullies, they almost never remember what they did to their targets while the victims usually remember every single thing vividly. You can see that in other relationships too, romantic ones. Even friends. I had one friend who was treating me terribly when we had a talk over it, she was completely clueless :"wait, what did I do?, I said that? I am sorry, everything is just very blurry in my memory. But is could not have been that bad." It is a coping mechanism because we don't ever want to be the bad guy in our own narrative. So we tend to just forget or romanticise our own actions. It is quite a selfish act as well.
