The loot crates aren't completely random, the power of the weapon is allways closer to your most powerfull weapon in the inventory and you get a lot of them so you can just salvage most of the crap and craft what ever you like. The most important thing is that you don't have to pay extra for them and again you do get a lot of them justby playing the game
One thing I would mention Mack is that you can only get items out of the loot box that are for your class, so as a Marcus Kruber I'll never open a mage staff for example, and you can earn boxes on one character and open them on a different one if you want the loot for that character instead.
@@WorthABuyreviews just subbed . You know it's gonna be a really good and fair review when the first video clip is mack getting his shit kicked in because he isn't blocking or parrying
AS far as random loot goes, the biggest improvement for me over the previous title is the fact that now, when you open a lootbox, you only get items that are universal or for the specific character you cleared the level with. In the first game, you could play with the elf and only get items for the dwarf as a reward. At least they've fixed that. EDIT: I noticed that you can actually open lootboxes with any character, regardless of the character you earned them for. This means you basically have complete control over which character you make stronger with better weapons
@MeatBap i loved that mission and played a lot but i found overall a better version in Righteous Stand. Imho the fort and cove missions have a very immersive design. V1 was a good game but almost all the core maps felt the same due to the setting and mono enemy faction
Kimochi90 V2 admittedly has greater variation and consistency across the maps but none really stand out for myself. Some of the maps are borrowed elements from V1 (Enemy Below, Man the Ramparts) and not even the best elements, these were 2 of the boring maps for fast loot finders.
To those concerned as I originally was, the developer has confirmed that loot boxes will not be sold for premium currency. All loot can only be unlocked through in-game experience. No pay-2-skip features implemented. Source: www.pcgamer.com/vermintide-2-will-not-have-loot-boxes-developer-confirms/
Makes me wonder, if you actually only glanced over the first one. It didn't have lootcrates, but it had dice. Instead of upgrading lootcrates, you'd get more dice and roll them in the end. It was just a more tedious process to get loot and everyone had to go through it at the end of a round. This seems better, but essentially the same: scrap what you don't need to upgrade other weapons. I haven't played the 2nd part, but you're doing the first one no justice. This looks very faithful to gameplay from original Vermintide. And that was quite good, just needed some updates.
Honestly, this game feels more like Vermintide 1.5 than Vermintide 2. You'd be forgiven in thinking that this was still the original and they just applied a major content patch to it, but for £20 I'm not complaining and I'm enjoying it :)
introducing 15 classes, introducing over 50% more types of enemies reworking many systems but keeping the same combat and gameplay style, seems like a proper sequel to me.
a word on the loot crate system, the big change is that you get the weapons from the character you are playing instead of weapons from other character that you are not interested in, in v1 you used to get a lot of gear for characters you dont even play
Cant wait for this on console. The game looks amazing and a big step in the right direction for the sequel. Can only imagine what this would be like in the 40K setting...
How are loot crates for completing a misson different from getting random loot when killing a boss? Or do you want some maps to have a unique loot table? I think loot in V2 is just random stats on item-types without any real unique weapons.
i got to say i actually like the loot in this one hated it in number 1 but the craft melt down and crafting a blue print for exactly the weapon you want then upgrading it and re rolling stats you can really get what ever you want after you level up and learn all the blue prints
It`s L4D in the Warhammer universe with added RPG elements and loot grinding....I loved L4D 1&2 and i love Vermintide 2 because it`s what I´ve been wanting for since L4D2. This game will entertain me for at at least 50+ hours and is available for around 20$. A must buy for anyone who even remotely likes that genre imho.
Can saomeone explain to me how does it look like when for example my main char is dwarf and someone else in the lobby has picked the dwarf before me. Does that mean that I have to play a different char which is underpowered because I haven't played it that much?
Mack, you need your own podcast where you talk about current events and your views on the world. We all would subscribe and listen to it 100%. Please do this. Even if it's just you talking into a mic while you walk around town. Rather than just talk to yourself, which we all know you do (as do we all) vent those thoughts for us all to hear. GUARANTEED there will be gold for material. You could call it the *No Bullshit Zone*
Pretty decent review, though the bit about the loot isn't quite accurate. Entirely understandable, since the in-game info is woefully lacking. Anyways, while the loot you get at the end is indeed randomized, you are always gaining progression no matter what loot you get. The game functions around a stat called hero power. You gain hero power by leveling up and getting better gear. The way you get better gear is to open lootboxes. The hero power of the gear you get out of those boxes is based on a hidden variable that's attached to your account which represents the highest hero power on an item you've seen. Whenever you acquire new gear, either through boxes or crafting, it's generated with a random hero power that is +/- 10 points around that variable. If you see a new number higher than the old one, that becomes the new variable. So even if the gear you get is basic trash, it can still raise your potential for more powerful gear. You can also craft specific weapons with the right salvage once you've unlocked the blueprint via leveling up the class that uses it. So it's still designed to be grindy but tenacity will guarantee you eventual progress and you aren't stuck with stuff you have no interest in (except maybe early on when you have no salvage or blueprints), unlike pure RNG.
What I was saying is the loot being RNG means you can't progress in any specific direction, so I need a new staff but keep getting useless rings, that chest in the video was utter trash, duplicate items and none of the ones I needed badly.
Like I said, the crafting system lets you make whatever you want so long as you have the components. You just have to level up the class a bit to unlock the blueprints. You can get a bit unlucky early on when you don't have any scrap to use but all that useless junk breaks down into things you can use to craft specific types of gear.
Still looks like it has same issue as the first. There is no weight to anything. When you swing the sword and hit something, it feels like you are brushing them with a feather. Unfortunately, I am spoiled by the weight of the combat in Chivalry so this is a deal breaker for me.
I really enjoyed the first game, but from the moment I tried the beta, I knew this second one was better. Especially love the power level system because it was so furiating in the first game when players would join me and my friend playing hard mode and they were like level 1.
Yep, Like Left 4 Dead 2, But better. I've got SO many hours on l4d2 that this game is an AWESOME welcome of freshness to me. Voice overs a great, lighting, Details.. ect. its like Brave heart Left for dead. I love it its a Blast. I got this on a free weekend and it runs slick on windows 7. . . Its "Worth a Buy" to me.
The game may be many things, but not easy. The first game was MUCH easier, and most people never beat the game on the highest difficulty...let alone all the mods from complete masochist that made it stupid hard. Which will also be coming to V2, with actual mod support in a few weeks :)
This game is a good chunk harder than the original. 2 of the new 'bosses' are harder than the rat ogre. AND there are actually numerous unique bosses at the end of specific levels now which are very hard.
New to this channel, and i just want to thankyou for the work you do. The amount iv learnt in the last few days by watching your content has really cleared my view on gaming. So thankyou Mack \m/. Please keep up the great work.
Can someone explain why the Warhammer universe looks so different between games? I recall seeing games with heavy weapons and tanks, yet this appears medieval and completely different, while it still carries the same name.
By the sounds of it, the games you're referring to takes place in the Warhammer 40,000 setting, which is set in a science-fantasy universe. There you will find your heavy tanks, giant bipedal war machines controlled by humans on cybernetic life-support systems, and a whole host of other pew pew far-future stuff.
I don't understand the hate on loot crates in this game. It's either you get a screen at the end of the game that gives you the items for the character you play or you get these and open them at a later date on a different character for example.
Because games used to give you specific loot for clearing challenges. Now it's all randomly generated nonsense that prevents you from getting what you want.
I can appreciate it in a way, but I can't tell what'll keep my playing longer, the massive stupid huge wall of challenges like in Modern Warfare 2 or the spooky wall of randomly granted loot I just have to pray my tits off to hopefully get. To me it just matters what keeps me playing longer as long as it doesn't get so ridiculous I feel like I have to grind endlessly just to get what I want.
You obviously haven't played the game, it's easy to get the loot you want in this if you're good at the game, which is fair enough, if you can't finish a level, you don't get loot, depending on your performance, depends on how good the loot is, and because powerlevel is universal, you don't NEED a really good weapon. Damage isn't that big of a difference. Plus if you don't like the loot? Break it down to craft the SPECIFIC weapon you want, or upgrade existing ones.
+LukeH97 You act like you can just break down 1 or 2 weapons and get what you wanted. You can't. If you want a charm the does something specific, or a weapon of a specific type, you need to be lucky. All salvaging does is give you one extra chance at the dice roll once every 5 runs.
The visualisation that accompanies the loot crate suggests to me that either they intended to have paid loot crates and cancelled due to all of the controversy or that they intend to introduce payment for loot crates down the line. The more I watch the video, the more it sounds like they were going to have paid loot crates.
They had the same in the first one with no loot boxes, they swore already they'd never do it. Either way, if you're good, you'll get good gear, the best gear is gated behind the hardest content, and for your information, this isn't like diablo/destiny with MASSIVE stat differences with weapons. It really isn't that much of a difference.
Fair enough, I've been getting a bit jaded with all the AAA co greed that's been going on, I didn't realise Vermintide was an indie game, I'm more inclined to support Fatshark in the future since they shun loot boxes and 'microtransactions'
I didn't care for the first Vermintide and was ignoring the sequel out of hand, but if Mack found enough to like with the new one I might have to give it a second look.
4:09 okay, actually I just had a thought. What makes lootcrates worse than random gear drops in something like say, Diablo? Least, in-game loot crates that you don't pay money for.
looked it up in the xbox store on my Series X after playing Darktide. It's there to buy and play, just don't know if it got any boost in graphics. Guessing not. Version available is probably fine to play if you can find other players. Darktide is cross-play so I get grouped with a lot of PC players. Again not sure if Vermintide 2 is.
A lot of shenanigans. "Cards Unbound" system, took away card crafting making it exclusively RNG for advancement. Cards have ranks now, doing more per rank. In a nutshell, the "casual" play mode allows for huge discrepancies in player stats while the "competitive" mode has limits that ensure power distribution is equal. Essentially it killed casual play. To get a card to max rank would require getting it 43 times from the new exclusively RNG system. There was a lot of outrage about this when it was on the test servers, devs flatly stated they didn't care and rolled it out anyway. If you take the game somewhat seriously and stick to competitive play then it won't matter, for the rest of us though it killed the game. If I came into the game after that update I might not care because I'd be evaluating the game with it's current structure. As it was though, I had dropped a few hundred bucks on cosmetics for myself and the wife because I appreciated the old structure. Now I feel like a fool with High Rez basically giving everyone like us the finger.
they fixed the cards and refunded like a million gold and vip pts. so whatews. they fixed alot of shit though that's a plus. and still the game peaks just on steam about 20-30k so top 20 on steam. and has been for a long time
Assuming that if what you mean by fixed the cards is they rolled back to the old card system or something like it I'd be willing to play again. I'll probably forever be leery of High Rez though. I suspect that a dev that sacks fair play in the name of profit is likely to do so again at some point but I'd be happy for them to prove me wrong. I'll go read the latest updates and get caught up on how the game is working nowadays. Either way, I'm down to see what Mack thinks of it.
I like the loot crate system... if it's free. Roguelike elements are fine by me in that regard - it's just when the stupid bastards charge money for it that it becomes an issue.
If you play 1 character with the same weapon over and over, you will get bored. The loot system is very good - the loot has a power level attached to it, so say you have a starting weapon with a power level of 5, then when you next open a chest, you will get items up to power level 15 (plus or minus 10). Say you looted a level 15 weapon, then switched to a fresh level 1 character and opened a loot box with him, then the loot in that box will be between level 5 and level 25 (it goes off the highest power level you've seen, across your whole account) so this system encourages trying out new builds/classes, since you're always progressing. It's almost as if you have an account level as well as character levels :)
.ENGLISH PROFICIENCY if you get into the combat system and play at the higher difficulties you will have to utilise more of the advanced techniques, and you'll learn about the depth of the combat. It's a lot deeper than it first seems like. :D
Mac! Zeal-lot??( I'm ringing my bell, ding, ding, ding!).lol Mate, it's pronounced "Zel-lot' . Religious "Zel-lot " . Love your videos though, mate. Keep up the good work. From Australia
Would random in game loot drops been better? I reckon so. There's no feeling like seeing that orange beam when a legendary drops in D3 even after like a million hours of play lol
Why am I watching this when I already have it?
Because it's Mack :)
ChuckE that’s the exact reason
Because now you know why you bought it :D
Were you looking my opinion on the game maybe?
To confirm the fact that you like it and to confirm nobody else is disliking it otherwise you rant on that page.
"It's like a Left 4 Dead clone."
Well, it's not like Valve makes games anymore...
Besides left 4 dead was made for PvP mostly, the PvE was quite boring and easy.
AREN'T YOU EXCITED FOR ARTIFACT????
its a mix of godofwar, left4dead and deadbydaylight lol 😂
Not to mention the L4D community is cancer.
I played L4D 1 & 2 solely for the PvE. As soon as I got through everything on expert I stopped playing since I never really liked the PVP.
Too be fair Mac, there hasn't been a left for dead game in ages so I don't mind.
rainbow six outbreak.
No
I bet old man Gaben'll released Left 4 Dead 3 any day now, nyeh Squidward, nyeh Squidward, nyeh Squidward
yeah probably along with the orange box 3
The Lynch King rainbow six outbreak is not as good. Rainbow six engine is not good for a game like left four dead.
Left-4-dead is dead.. Valve killed it.. So Vermintide 2 is needed.
its dogshit though
This is how I want a proper MMO to look and play like. First person, no friggin RTS levels of zoom out, fun action packed combat and a nice fast flow. Add an open world and dungeons/raids with actual loot-tables to all of this, and you got a hit on your hand.
Trust me, it would become annoying to click for every auto hit.
An fps Path of Exile would be AMAZING.
The game wouldn't be a tab target auto-hit mmo, that's his point, he thinks one should play like this game does.
Then Russians and Asians couldn't run the run it on there toasters.
I've wanted an MMO like that for years
To be fair Mack, loot drops are random anyway, whether they're in boxes or not.
plus if you open stuff with for example bright wizard you get stuff for bright wizard thats thats far from completly random :D

One thing your missing: the melee just feels so good. It's so meaty.
I mention that in the summary

Yeah I meant the dwarf class has ranged options, I did not explain that bit well at all, the slayer is a sub class.

The 'Left 4 Dead' comparison is ironically derivative and lazy, also in no way a negative and not something Fatshark hide from.

I could see a game like this mixing really good with the Gauntlet formula.
Quite a bit of flickering going on in this video. Something up with your recording software Mac?

How are loot crates for completing a misson different from getting random loot when killing a boss? Or do you want some maps to have a unique loot table? I think loot in V2 is just random stats on item-types without any real unique weapons.

2:55 incorrect the slayer subclass for the dwarf has no ranged options. Slayers do not use ranged weapons.

Ah thanks for the explanation. That clears up the confusion.
Hi mack, are you going to review Monsrer Hunter world ?
shahn0or when the pc version is out
Could you review surviving on mars
I don't really play games like this but it looks pretty sweet.
I agree with the RNG stuff you should just be able to get what you need.
Lol it was actually the opposite in verm 1 you always got loot for other characters not the one you were playing.
+LukeH97
You act like you can just break down 1 or 2 weapons and get what you wanted. You can't. If you want a charm the does something specific, or a weapon of a specific type, you need to be lucky.
All salvaging does is give you one extra chance at the dice roll once every 5 runs.
Hey Mack I really miss your mackscorner videos
Holding "R" while a mage cools your hands off.
It doesn't damage you if you are in the white still, but yeah, that's only the very first segment.
Review convinced me to buy the game. Keep up the good work Mack!
May have to pick this one up on Greenman Gaming ;)
The visualisation that accompanies the loot crate suggests to me that either they intended to have paid loot crates and cancelled due to all of the controversy or that they intend to introduce payment for loot crates down the line. The more I watch the video, the more it sounds like they were going to have paid loot crates.
They had the same in the first one with no loot boxes, they swore already they'd never do it. Either way, if you're good, you'll get good gear, the best gear is gated behind the hardest content, and for your information, this isn't like diablo/destiny with MASSIVE stat differences with weapons. It really isn't that much of a difference.
Also in the first game people were ASKING the devs to put up cosmetic microtransactions and they refused to take more money
Mack, is it possible you could create one of your awesome reviews on 'Into the Breach'? It's from the creators of one of your all time favorite's: FTL
Wokmossel damn, ask and you shall receive
Plan on doing Surviving Mars?

Are you gonna review Osiris new dawn?
Hopefully
4:09 okay, actually I just had a thought. What makes lootcrates worse than random gear drops in something like say, Diablo? Least, in-game loot crates that you don't pay money for.
👽Anyoneelse who finds gamebugs in vermintide 2 fun to watch? 😂
Does it have an XboxSeriesX version or do I just buy the XboxOne version?
looked it up in the xbox store on my Series X after playing Darktide. It's there to buy and play, just don't know if it got any boost in graphics. Guessing not. Version available is probably fine to play if you can find other players. Darktide is cross-play so I get grouped with a lot of PC players. Again not sure if Vermintide 2 is.
Thanks. I've been searching the net and it looks like it was made for Xbox One only and it got a graphics boost 3 years ago. @@fastdak25
Its like Left for Dead 2 in combination with Diablo 3. A whole lot of similarities with the grinding and the a lot of loot.
Can i play on my ps4?
Great review Macketh.....as always
ya thinkin' doing paladins? shit got updated so many times it's good-ish
Paladins is dead to me since OB64. Might still be a good game but I have no faith in the devs since then.
what happened in 64?
Thangs m8; I got V1 on sale and it was dull, glad I checked this out ;)
Mack, is there enough depth is the combat system here? Cause it looks pretty repetitive, not sure how replayable this is.
The sub classes offer a nice bit of freshness to the combat but it is very spammy at times.
.ENGLISH PROFICIENCY if you get into the combat system and play at the higher difficulties you will have to utilise more of the advanced techniques, and you'll learn about the depth of the combat. It's a lot deeper than it first seems like. :D
The one review I've been waiting for ha
Mac! Zeal-lot??( I'm ringing my bell, ding,ding,ding!).lol
Mate, it's pronounced "Zel-lot' . Religious "Zel-lot " . Love your videos though, mate. Keep up the good work. From Australia
"wankers"-i love it
The dwarf is past dem trees mack. 😜
Would random in game loot drops been better? I reckon so. There's no feeling like seeing that orange beam when a legendary drops in D3 even after like a million hours of play lol
