I can't really say as I never got past the first level due to the crashing but I saw nothing at all in this game that made me think it's worth £22 It's vastly inferior to L4D which is like £15 and all this game did is make me want to reinstall L4D 1 & 2 Am not sure what all the fuss is about.
+Worth A Buy Damn shame with the crashes, I've only played with friends so no comment on community. I tend to avoid public CO-OP like the plauge :p Just got to cross fingers and hope they figure out the crashes, none of us have had any at all, so I guess we got lucky. We've had damn fun so far, 8hrs for me 15 or so for the other 2 I've played with. So here is to fixing crashes and hopefully a re-review down the road.
+Worth A Buy It's kind of awkward, but even if all these fanboys attack you, i truthfully thank you for bringing this obvious gutter trash brand games out into the light. Give in to the little red bastards!
The blood graphics are pretty sad with no sense of gruesome realism. Yes attacks and weapon feel is very weightless with no sense of power to them. There is also no sense of impact when you hit with a melee weapon. Graphics are alright. I like how they did some of the ratmen with their pinkish flesh showing but the overall game is not the greatest looker especially when it comes to the far off background and sky box. What is funny is usually i play my games with the brightness really dark to bring out color and detail but in this game i actually had to turn up the brightness to bring out all the visuals and model details which was a nice change compared to other games which feel washed out when doing so.
Posting this because am fed up of replying to comments from people saying this review is unfair. So let me explain one last time for these people too fucking stupid to grasp what I said in the video. The game is NOT a bad game, I actually say this in the video ok! However it is riddled with bugs that only effect certain PC configs, mine was one of the unlucky systems. This is NOT my systems fault as I can play every other game in my library and I have over 1000 without any issues at all. It's the buggy game that is at fault. steamcommunity.com/app/235540/discussions/1/483368526581562824/ steamcommunity.com/app/235540/discussions/8/483368526582387231/ forums.fatsharkgames.com/discussion/2476/cant-play-the-game-anymore-crash-in-the-tavern-s-loading-screen www.reddit.com/r/Vermintide/comments/3q680z/crash_after_crash_after_crash/ steamcommunity.com/app/235540/discussions/1/483368526583315847/ steamcommunity.com/app/235540/discussions/1/483368526583733783/ steamcommunity.com/app/235540/discussions/1/483368526579356360/ I found these threads in less than 5 minutes, most of them posted within the last 6 hours, this is an indication of the state of the game. if your PC is running the game fine then good for you, but many of us are having huge issues and I can only review a game based on how it plays for me.
I'm going to be a bit more constructive in what pushed me the wrong way now that I've slept. Saying "This is NOT my systems fault as I can play every other game in my library" is one of the big hates for anyone in IT to hear, the vast majority of the time that gets brought up it's not the case. Even if it is the case, that phrase can still annoy people because of all the things they've looked at before. If you omitted that I would have been completely fine with the review. It's ashame and probably a bad reflection on myself that something so small annoys me, but it does and it might do for others in IT.
+Worth A Buy If you admit it's your system, Mack, I'll buy you a new pc! Custom case (of course I'll be the one customizing it). Pink unicorns, strawberry lasers and velour tassels?
+Worth A Buy If the game has more bad than good I am bound to be focused on the negative and tbh I am struggling still to understand how people still think this is a good game. The combat is just spam, spam, spam with your sword, sometimes you even hit them when they are like 10 feet away such is the floaty combat. I would pay about £9.99 for this, not £22 L4D pisses all over this game and that is way cheaper so there you go.
+Paul Hardy Ha! What's so hard to believe? I'm going to assume for arguements sake that you are a developer. If the majority of issues coming in aren't user related, then you sure as hell aren't testing properly before release. If you work completely internally and what you create isn't involved with third party software within the business you have zero excuses, it would make you trash tier. That's why the majority of things coming in should be user error.
+Jayden Young Thats cause its certain CPU's. It hasn't been tested on a variety of machines. I don't see any excuse for them not fixing this while the beta was out. What the hell are they thinking releasing the game anyway eventhough they see all the threads for this.
Same here. No crashes, may be something with a certain brand of hard ware. The rest of the review is just mack venting anger at a realatively good game. The only actual point is that the game isnt optimized.
Jungleman "The only actual point is that the game isnt optimized." Then why was it released? How are people supposed to tell its a good game when its its getting 20FPS or less on some systems and some are experiencing frequent crashes.. whats the point in having a beta when they just release it buggy anyway? Oh right, its just to hook people in to buy it, not for testing purposes. "The rest of the review is just mack venting anger at a realatively good game." Sorry but thats not a good game, thats a potentially good game with shitty developers.
Yes. I've done it again! First Battlefront now Vermintide! I have waited for a review from someone I trust and resisted pre-ordering a game I had a massive hype about. Mack, Sir! you saved me some money. Let's just hope they don't fuck up Fallout 4 or I will become depressed.
+Craving Raven Just be ready for a shitty launch. It's bethesda we're talking about and this time they've made the world even larger, so wait for a couple of months, when most of the bugs have been removed and perhaps a community patch is available. I woulnd't doubt the quality of the game, however. (Disclaimer: huge fan)
people don't get that this channel doesn't rate if a game is good or not. it rates if they are worth the asking price. there is a massive distinction - should you pay £22 of your take home on this game or a different one? from this review I definitely wouldn't pay £22 for it.
The Gamer Geek Reviewer Because the core game isn't finished, and yet DLC is announced. Free or not, that's seems like they don't have their priorities in order. Also, I haven't spent a dime on the game, or even knew it existed prior to watching this video, so I don't give a shit.
+WINxTEC i read something somewhere that DLC can be free for those who got invited by the people who bought the DLC. but if you don't own the DLC you can't start the "new maps for example" but i might be wrong about that
Anusideral No, that's the difference. I respect your opinion as a person, that's why I'm replying. I just don't place any value on it, more now than ever.
Guys this review is buyer beware, the game has huge issues with certain PC setups, am using a i7 3770 3.4GHZ 16 GIG of corsair DDR3 Ram and a Nvidia GTX 770 card and it's crashing every 10 - 15 minutes hence the thumb down review. If you really want this game then go and buy it as you can always use the steam refund option but remember this will not work if you buy through Greenman Gaming.
+Worth A Buy How old is your windows 7 install? Always a good idea to think about doing a fresh install yearly (maybe win/10 this time). It's a good way to clear up odd ball issues that windows tends to take on over time.
I never got a crash when playing the game or on the loading screen. For me it only randomly crashes sometimes in the tavern when I'm messing around with invites.
Its one of the best games to come out in the last 2 years. loot system gives a lot of long term value systems are a hell of a lot deeper than L4D, however fun it was game is like dead island with l4d with rats instead of zombies, and it's fantastic i've had one crash from a disconnect in 8 hours, on windows 10
+100years262democides All I saw in my two hours were spamming your sword at rats, sometimes you hit them when you are like 10 feet away sometimes when you are two feet away, dreadful combat, constant crashing and toxic community.
Guess whose videos I watch when making my purchasing decisions during the summer sale??? I've watched like a dozen of your reviews in the past couple of days, haha, keep it going Mack.
First time i disagreed with Mack. I absolutely adore Vermintide, i vastly enjoy the game especially with 4 friends. I think its miles better than L4D. It doesnt mean Im right or Mack is wrong, we just have different opinions!
+Neil Scott most things are more fun with a full stack, when you are having crash issues and having to deal with toxic PuGs your experience can vary a lot.
+Neil Scott I completely agree. I'm in just the same situations as you. I've already had way more fun in Vermintide than i ever had in L4D or L4D2. +Anusideral I don't follow. An opinion is formed by ones experience with the game. If you're stuck with crashes and bad players, your opinion will become negative. If you play with nice people and you're not constantly crashing, that opinion may turn into into a good one. What is your point?
Biggest turn-off for me is the community. It seems that everyone agrees that the community for this game is utter trash. I can handle it being a L4D knock-off, I mean at least the formula is fun, even if it's not innovative. I can live with some grinding, even if it isn't my preference. I can look past these things as long as I can still have fun. But having a bunch of raving lunatics howling some incomprehensible criticism about my skills after they get downed for reasons beyond my control? No thanks. I've had more than enough vote-kick nonsense over the years, I'd rather not experience it again because I hacked when I should have slashed or whatever their reasons for instantaneously kicking people are. Good review, Mack.
+OckhamAsylum I've had almost all positive experiences so far with the community. I've been playing mostly with my friends but the times I do look for a random group the people are usually decent. Not always the best players skill wise but haven't experienced this toxic community some people have.
+ScumbagBeeching Counter-strike has always had a terrible community full of downies and lowlifes, screaming, talking about drugs like they are in a restaurant menu, their childish humor and pathetic means to put you down. There is nothing pretty about alot of popular game communitys. For example, TF2 used to have a pretty damn good community back before it was free to play and turned into craft-fortress, now its full of children and over 40s taking the game as seriously as they would life.
People who votekick have no gaming honour. I press F2 the 90% of the times. I can actually kick the votekick spammer (even if it wasn't against me), especially if he's also insulting everyone, calling everyone idiots for not using map exploit (better be "idiot" than lamer)
This game was made with the intention of being very similar to L4D, the authors said it would be a testament to it. They improved some mechanics, gave it a modern look, and a new world. So to say it was a rip-off, well that's what they were going for.
If someone is thinking to buy this in these days, its not that well optimized and probably will never be, i didn't have any crashes but its runs badly.. with GTX1070 and i7 had to drop down graphics and still frames drop somewhere near 40fps....
Havent crashed at all, Only bug I had was gatling rat shooting through the wall which sucked. It worked for me and having great fun, but when a game doesnt work is BS. Hope you will return when they fix it for you.
Hi Mack. It looks like v1.01 was released today (10/25) and the changelog references several crashes that were fixed. If you still have the game installed, can you give us a quick update on this patch and whether it resolves the crashes that you experienced? Thanks very much! Keep up the good work!
finally someone that is not blind and can see that is a left 4 dead total conversion mod, you can do that in lfd 2 with a mod, and this game is 28$ when you can buy lfd 2 for 5 $ or less in the sales or in keys, but even worst, early access, dlc and no variety, im glad theres still people like you mack, thnks for helping people, because if it wasnt for you, a lot of money would go to greedy devs. that copie and paste games and release them.
only time i ever had crashes with this game were when my friend was having wifi issues and when they were having back end issues (back end was only like the first week). my set up is low tier and can run it. also they announced before release versus mode would be in a year :\
+koffieslikkersenior OK - let's buy new shiny PC for our 7 years old kid so he won't go outside to hang around with kids of his age ! Geeeeewwwd idea ! ;-)
***** You got the age wrong. More like 13-14, on average. (Based completely on personal experience on public servers of shit community games, not actual data.) But in a sense parents are like that nowadays. My cousin is a teacher and she works with 15 year olds. Parents outright discredit the school's disciplinary system! What the fuck is happening to this world?
[CTD] The game doesnt crash of me, but some times in a longer session go from 80fps to 10fps. I think its then most people crash and that there might be a memory leak in the code. The reason I dont crash at those points is mostly I presume because I have 32gigs of ram. [Melee Combat] I actually do not think the hit detection is "all over the place", but that they messed up a core thing about melee combat. The input has to reflect what the player "thinks" would be equal in the real world AND it has to be more "choices" just because, its a main melee weapon! In WarHammer V they did not think of that except for on one character which probably has more to do with hes look in Warhammer than anything else. Because the "classical" look of the Witch Hunter is a Rapier and a pistol. So when you fight with him left click spam is swipe left and right, the power attack is a different looking forward stab and the alt fire is the left hand pistol. Which makes perfect sense and you can predict your characters animations based on input and therefor better estimate where the strikes are. When you have that input feeling the hit detection does not feel that bad. However on the other weapons its ONLY left right swing and mostly a power swing with no alternate attack. Which makes the stand alone melee weapon seem shallow! A two handed sword should have left right spam, forward power thrust and some other alt attack to spice it up like a hilt knock or something. Similar with large axe, left right spam, overhead power attack and some alt forward trust as a "spice" move. Instead what they did was to have several power attack that doesnt make "sense" to the player and left out alt attacks one EVERY other weapon class in the game apart from the Witch Hunter! Now, sure these "no sense" power attacks could be on some weapons as their extra trait, but thats not how it works and I think that is why many think the hit detection is a bit off. They do not feel they have actual and flexible control input of their characters animation so combat feels more "random" than it should and considering fixing that could be overall easy to do. Its clear their fighting mechanics are not just shallow, but lazy. [VS Mode] Is not there for the same reason the melee combat is shallow. VS Mode would take more time to developed AND need balance both character and map wise. There are already map exploits vs tanks etc... Another sign of lazy/min effort L4D copy. [Maps] Decent amount of maps and the look is great. Some of the maps have exploits that needs fixes though, but its not game enjoyment breaking. [Loot] Very RNG. You can tell the devs ether want you to buy cheapish character loot DLC or expect you to play "forever". Another sign they should have made the core aspect of the game better if they want people to actually do that. *Bottom line:* This game could have been allot more than it is and they could have had a epic success on their hands instead of a meh L4D clone, but overall its a decent L4D clone. Depending on what one is looking for. This might scratch that itch,... somewhat. You will notice your own list of things that are "Why is this so shallow." etc. However, IF you are expecting Chivalry like combat in a L4D like setting. Go elsewhere. The inflexible/shallow or down right lazy combat mechanics will piss you off.
Great review Mack. I really do value your reviews so much and take all of your recommendations and advice with me when looking to purchase new titles. I can safely say you've saved me from buying some pretty shocking titles. Thanks so much for the content, keep up the great work and brilliant reviews.
I don't mean to play Devil's Advocate, but I have yet to crash even once playing this game. And by no means am I defending it, but my experience has been completely different. Fun game (though the fucking hitboxes are jacked as hell), no real problems with other players and smooth gameplay. Not a fanboy though, just my experience.
old nintendo games used to get an official seal of quality before they were released to give the buyer the confidence that it had been tested and worked properly. They should bring that back for all platforms.
+RhoadsAlive Uuuhhhh, YES!!!! I can't wait to hear whether I should go pay shitloads for the next shovelware bullshit from Ubicrap. :D PLX Mack, let us know!1 Then again, his ranting spree and the civil wars with braindead fanboy morons in the comments are always fun to watch. ^^
+Fuhq Ewe Eh, Crashes less than Dota 2 for me. :| :P The biggest problem is that sometimes (dunno why or when exactly) the textures fuck up quite royally. I can still play it but there are these weird texture stretching from the nose to the balls, like the uni-swimsuit of borat. On the rat that is. But yeah, it works for me quite well otherwise. No crashes, the community doesn't seem too toxic. At least not in my experience. Anyways, i think you should check it out. :)
Thanks for the review here lad, I do best to avoid any sort of games that have their own toxic community as you put it. Another bullet dodged thanks to you sir! *tips hat*
Mack. You are probably the only fucking reviewer on youtube who points out so many critical problems with a game that channels like IGN and even Angry Joe (who i still respect as a review though) ignore or leave out of their reviews. I see you going very far with your channel mate. And ignore the butthurt fanboys who can't handle the truth about their shitty little games.
Hello m8! Thank you very much for the finally useful review, really one of a kind out there atm since even the other "bigger" reviewers (like AngryJoe) went sell out w*ores when it came to the review of this game, they basically mindfully tricked ppl into buying this cause of the premium from the company. Such a shame and a let down. But back to topic, what Worth a Buy mentions here are 100 % true (sadly), for example I bought the game just yesterday and the fact is that I really like it, I truly am, but don't get carried away, the bugs which has been mention above are very much real and there indeed, luckily I haven't experienced any crashes myself (yet) but the poor performance is an ongoing issue atm and a big one. It's a wonderful game specially if you guys loved L4D, but because of the ongoing issues I'd advise you to give it a double thought before you buy it. I'm sure that the bugs will get sorted out eventually (hopefully) - but until that patch doesn't land in your Steam game updates, it's a no go. I'm not refunding only cause apart from it's flaws the game is awesome indeed, but whoever reads this please keep in mind the things mentioned in this video before going for the Checkout, Thank you! :) Best Regards Peeps! :)
Another game you might want to look at is Rebel Galaxy Mack it's a lot of fun just make sure you turn the music off to avoid copyright ID claims by extreme music.
Always refreshing to hear honest reviews that will not glaze over the flaws. With no such thing as quality assurance for most games, it is a massive plus to have honest reviewers.
I don't regret buying Vermintide, and I am a Warhammer fanboy, but Mack's points of critique are certainly valid. I haven't experienced any crashes myself, though my framerate tanks when I'm in the green poison gas - optimisation would be nice. The one thing I'd point out is that Vermintide is melee-centric, whereas L4D is gun-centric, but that's pretty much the only significant gameplay difference.
It is quite weird how this game still ctd...and i got 3 friends who got almost same config pc:s..for 3 it works mostly like a dream but for one guy it does not want to co-operate but crash, lose connection, unable to join the same game...aah it's just so bad for him...
I can understand the gripes about the bugs, but you can't judge a game's quality by the people who choose to play it. It's the first few days after release- that community is likely to expand and change.
Haven't had crashing issues myself (windows 10). In 6 hours of play I also haven't had to deal with a host crashing or teams kick voting people. Generally enjoyed the game, but, not on the level that I did/do L4D. Moving from aiming with a gun to just kind of spamming a sword attack kills a lot of the enjoyment. Picked it up off greenman with a code for $22. At that price I'm happy with the game and I see myself coming back to it every now and then to play some like I do with L4D.
I should just say for everyone thinking of buying it , I'd never heard of it till release day. I bought it and am loving it. 0 crashes after about 20 hrs runs great for me which is weird since my system is bit shit.
No versus mode. No point. I question why they even bothered to rip off L4D in the first place if they weren't going to take the best thing about it. This begs to have versus with players as the special monsters. Without it, it's just boring, and that's also why Killing Floor never got popular. L4D is the winner entirely thanks to versus. Now they're working on DLC? If the versus turns out to be paid DLC, I'm going to laugh.
Your honesty is so refreshing, wish I'd seen this before buying it! Unfortunately saw some other reviews which all praised the game! (One of which was from TB which was surprising). I must say though I do enjoy the game, but the crashing really sets it back a whole lot.
You have to bear in mind that TB has the latest intel cpu with multi threading and sli titan x's. His experience and opinion was just as honest as mack's, it ran well for him and he enjoyed it.
+Kevin Wilson TBH it's nothing to do with how fast your PC is, there are loads of people with top end rigs having the same crashes and mine is well above the required specs, am not running some POS PC, it's above average.
Worth A Buy He does have a super rig though which means it will play at a very high FPS and suffer less FPS drops, if he doesn't suffer crashes then it runs extremely well for him. the video he done was an impression video, not a port report or WTF is where he would have researched the forums and possible problems with the game, worth bearing in mind. I was just defending TB's honesty really, the OP implied he was dishonest by saying yours was refreshing and then bringing up TB, I only follow honest youtubers, I know his opinion is worth just as much as yours TB got me interested in the game, you told me to check out the forums to see if it will work on my set-up before buying... and gave me a possible discount! :)
My Experience with this game: it was almost unplayable in the beta. i had many crashes, bugs and yes, the community was toxic. but that was beta. now, the game was released and the only thing that happened was, that a player fell off the world, but it happened one time in like 10 games i played and i realized, if you are a decent player and play on a harder difficulty, the team isn't so careless, toxic and actually want to help you, because they want to finish the level. when i started the game, i played hard mode when i was level 3 and got in a game with 3 level 15 guys and one guy wanted to kick me, but the others just wanted to play, and actually were really helpful, so yeah, there are toxic players and assholes but it really depends and i think on harder difficulty, the people are more kind. and that thing with the hitboxes, i never experienced any problems, i don't know if it is this was you mean, i guess not, but the rats are kinda small, so you can swing your sword above their head and don't hit them, that's my only explaination, but i really don't know.^^ Also after release i had not a single crash, but well, it can just be me being lucky. i guess if you had a bad experience, which can totally happen i'm aware of it, your thumb down for this game is somewhat comprehensible, but still, it's a good game, and if they fix the crashes and bugs it will be well worth a buy IMO :)
I keep reading your comments worthabuy... And I recommend everyone take MY word for it since I played the game, and my video card is worse than his is. This game was WAAAAAAY better than l4d. First of all, melee weapons FELT different. Two handed axe did this, one handed axe did that, sword did this, shield and hammer does that. Its focus on melee combat drives it ahead of l4d, not to mention diverse roles and characters. A richer art style, more captivating story, and better combat system overall. You just need to play the game and redo this review, I think. You got an unlucky release on day 1. Don't be such a drama queen. Don't buy the special edition or whatever cause they're esthetic crappy ingame items. Pick it up for 30 and you'll not regret it, if you liked l4d2. v.v
You're spot on that the game is not ready for release. This game needs another 6 months, private servers and/or host migration like in Warframe (where it saves the state of the current game). I've played almost 40 hours and I'm still enjoying the game since I like horde and trying to memorize all the chest, tome, and grimoire locations.
I'm playing it in 2018 and can say that: 1. The game is pretty stable. I have finished the more than 10 stages several times and not a single crash. 2. Most of the toxic community is gone. Even on Insane difficulty, experienced gamers have patience with new ones. But I have to say that in about 50 matches in one of them I got voted to be kicked for being slightly behind the group. I rage quitted before they finished voting and quickly joined another match :)
I did use your code to bring it down to £16, so thanks Mack! It's really unfortunate that you've experienced that many crashes :(. Touch wood it's not happened to me yet. There have been plenty of jittery corpses and glitchy heads though. This is pretty much L4D with a tiny weeney bit more melee, you're right. But I'm still finding it strangely addictive. I haven't experienced many community problems in game, but I have been playing with almost a full team of friends. If you do get it (although after this vid, it's unlikely haha) then definitely play with 3 of your friends, but it's annoying and disappointing if that's what other random players are like. Still a great review as ever!
while the game has a few bugs i wouldent call them game destroying at all. as for the crashes that hasnt been a issue for a while now, it was right after full launch but not so much now and you would know that if you played for more the TWO HOURS.
If they fix this I might pick it up during a Steam Sale, but that's a very large might. It could be okay, but they got a lot of work to do and shit to fix first.
+Otto “Necro” Seitamaa Don't know who told you that but it's rubbish, these bugs have been around a while now, I had them last week well before launch.
I agree its fun when it works but it is horribly optimised and getting disconnected is frequent enough to be a pain. If you do decide to buy search around dont buy from steam direct you will get ripped off 9 times out of 10 there are cheaper options (and I dont mean piracy) I managed to buy it for 12 pounds on release.
Hmm... three points i have about the wab and game in general. I don't know if you only tried that sword and shield, but my experience with hitboxes is really good. When using 2 handed weapons you really feel that power as it strikes down and sort of bounces off the exploding rat heads. Also when doing charge attacks you can send all the rats in front on you flying in whatever direction you're swinging, just as the hammer hits them. It feels awesome to be honest. I really don't understand your problem with it. I just think that sword and shield is a really boring weapon and if you ever try the game again (u probably won't) I'd recommend trying different weapons and classes. Also noticed you did a lot of M1 spam, and that will easily get you killed later in the game. A good combination of light attacks, charge attacks, blocking and bashing (!!!) is really important. The nice people i play with also feel the combat works really well and that you can feel the mace or hammer or claymore really cleave and crush the enemies. For the bugs, there are major bugs like some people crash a lot and on that i agree. The game should be delayed until the bugs got hammered out. Luckily the last time i checked, the devs said they are currently prioritizing bug fixes and optimization over DLC, so I'm assuming the game will be patched up within the following weeks. I've "only" had 3 crashes after 40 hours, but it sucks when it does crash. For the community, i agree. It is absolutely filled with self absorbed passive aggressive shit players. It's like a blend of minecraft and cs:go kids. Its not all bad, but you generally have to go through 3 terrible parties to find 1 good, and then you just stick with the good party for the next 3 hours. When you get to higher difficulties it gradually gets better because the shitters can't handle nightmare or cataclysm, but there will always be "that guy" from time to time. This is why you have friends to play with, because it makes the game sooooo much better. You see, what the game does so well and makes it worth it imo is how important and rewarding teamplay is. Its not just about sticking together, sometimes splitting up is the best idea. When you also designate roles, sectors, routes, and do some clever weapon combinations among the team its really rewarding when everything just works. Some levels are really fucking hard and so you do a lot of planning and testing different tactics on different maps. It really opens up when you have a good team and it doesn't crash. The games really shines in this regard and i see it as its main strength. I don't want to sound all fanboyish, I just wanted to mention the good points about the game since Mack sadly didn't get to experience them after 2 hours of crashing. A team of nice people is what makes the game worth it despite it's stability issues imho.
+eggo tl;dr: Even though Mack says it's not a bad game, 90% of the wab is focused on the bad things about it, and this will inevitably leave a very poor impression of the game in total. The points Mack makes (which are all valid), only represents about 3% of my total experience with the game. I recommend trying it and just getting a refund if you're not happy with its stability or players.
Well mack I took a chance on this after your review and I think I got lucky ^^ Game does not crash for me and I am having hours of fun :) I want to say thanks for the review sorry you had problems with the game would of loved to play this with you (So many bad random players -.-)
Community awful? = Subjective Combat doesnt feel that solid, range seems to vary? Valid criticism. This probably has to do with regular attacks doing different types of move, sometimes slash, sometimes a stab move. It depends on the weapon but light/one hand weapons tend to be left slash right slash and stab. (i mean just pressing light attack button (left mouse clicks here) ). Lag probably messes up what is shown. Other weapons require holding left button to stab, others need that to overhead strike so keep that in mind.
+Worth A Buy . I wonder if companies release games that are 90% finished because it would save a lot of money (testing etc.). Nowadays most of us almost expect to have bugs in a new game, so I doubt it would effect sales. With it being so easy to patch games (not like the old days with carts and CD's) Thoughts?
i kinda like the concept and setting, i will wait for 1-2 months and if the bugs persist i will ignore it. Thanks for the warning cause nobody actually informed us for the crashes in the game. I knew it wasn't the epitomy of a well optimized game, but still thought it was playable.
Man that sucks. I remember jumping into this game the first day of the beta/early access thing and thinking to myself "I bet mack would really enjoy this!" My experience with the game has been pretty positive, no crashes, no overly toxic behavior and no real frustration with the game. Hopefully you'll get a chance to play for more than a couple hours and even finish a level. Why would any one expect a positive review after all that?
ive played this game 5 hours straight on launch day no crash yes the host disconnected but that was cause he left the lobby after the match the community seems quite alright no raging ppl yet i must say the collision detection is a bit iffy cauase blocking works for blocking damage but the enemies walk trough the shield but the shield bash will work for that the optimazation is still a bit shit but turning gore off helps alot even tho there is almost no visual difference there is still blood anyway ive played it for 5 hours and finished 3 lvls and the developers have said in there interview that it was heavily based on l4d2
I like the game but I'm inclined to agree with Mack that the bugs are holding it back severely. The bot AI is also horrendous, lol they can't even revive people after they get downed, so bad. The sooner they add host migration/dedicated servers the better.
I have a GTX 750 and this game runs at high settings and plays well. No crashes, when I host there's no lag, and I found the game to be a better L4D. Like Dying light was a better Dead island.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience Mack, I can't say I have suffered from the same ordeals maybe I haven't played long enough. I can agree with you that the game is poorly optimized and needs some more work doing to the animation cycles and models.
Mack im really torn about wether to get this, because i fucking love the theme and the whole essence of left for dead, but hearing about the bugs and crashes is putting me off.
Mack, your slogan should be, "a guy who hates video games, reviews video games" But seriously, love your vids man, been subbed for a while. I haven't played a good game since 2000 when diablo 2 came out. That said I kinda like this game (not love), and I knew you wouldn't like it hahaha
I've never understood how running around pressing the R trigger was supposed to feel like swinging a sword. Can't we come up with some other kind of combat innovation than "look at enemy, press R"?
+Paw print Mount and Blade? It's abstract, but it has some core elements of fencing such as positioning (to you enemy, but also in a group), timing you attack and anticipating your enemy's move.
+Paw print Don't forget the cannon fodder AI masses you slay by the dozen each wave to feel empowered. Did those devs never lay their hand on the likes of Dark Souls?
I can't really say as I never got past the first level due to the crashing but I saw nothing at all in this game that made me think it's worth £22 It's vastly inferior to L4D which is like £15 and all this game did is make me want to reinstall L4D 1 & 2 Am not sure what all the fuss is about.
+Worth A Buy Damn shame with the crashes, I've only played with friends so no comment on community.
I tend to avoid public CO-OP like the plauge :p
Just got to cross fingers and hope they figure out the crashes, none of us have had any at all, so I guess we got lucky.
+MrBakubakuretsu Thats Mack, our everyday-hero!
+Worth A Buy that is right l4d was good this is just the same without vs mode

I found these threads in less than 5 minutes, most of them posted within the last 6 hours, this is an indication of the state of the game. if your PC is running the game fine then good for you, but many of us are having huge issues and I can only review a game based on how it plays for me.
Pink unicorns, strawberry lasers and velour tassels?
what bugs? I never crashed on this game. I lagged a bit but changed shadows and boom the game runs super smooth.
Did you review the beta maybe?
I actually haven't experienced a single crash in either the beta or full release :/
He said certain pcs. It's not every pc. The game is just not compatible with some hardware.
+Jayden Young Thats cause its certain CPU's. It hasn't been tested on a variety of machines. I don't see any excuse for them not fixing this while the beta was out. What the hell are they thinking releasing the game anyway eventhough they see all the threads for this.
+Jayden Young me 2
Same here. No crashes, may be something with a certain brand of hard ware. The rest of the review is just mack venting anger at a realatively good game. The only actual point is that the game isnt optimized.
Jungleman "The only actual point is that the game isnt optimized."
Then why was it released? How are people supposed to tell its a good game when its its getting 20FPS or less on some systems and some are experiencing frequent crashes.. whats the point in having a beta when they just release it buggy anyway? Oh right, its just to hook people in to buy it, not for testing purposes.
"The rest of the review is just mack venting anger at a realatively good game."
Sorry but thats not a good game, thats a potentially good game with shitty developers.
+koffieslikkersenior MAWDS
giorgi lobjanidze Took some time to figure out you meant mods :P But yeah, waiting also ensures there are some dope ass mods available :)
+Craving Raven You don't like AAA games, matey ? YOU DON'T LIKE QUALITY ? I must be a hipster since I lost hope in these ''mainstream'' games.
what did you just say i am confuse
"It's not ready for public consumption, unless of course you're a fanboy" *Daintily rings bell" xD
people don't get that this channel doesn't rate if a game is good or not. it rates if they are worth the asking price. there is a massive distinction - should you pay £22 of your take home on this game or a different one? from this review I definitely wouldn't pay £22 for it.
LOL! DLC already. Sickening.
+The Real Drunkard Hu At least they "released" the game before working on DLC :P
The Gamer Geek Reviewer Because the core game isn't finished, and yet DLC is announced. Free or not, that's seems like they don't have their priorities in order. Also, I haven't spent a dime on the game, or even knew it existed prior to watching this video, so I don't give a shit.
+The Gamer Geek Reviewer
Some free and some paid DLC.
The community is a little crap, and ive had more than a few connection errors. But at its core, its a fun game.
+hobanagerik -- yep i still haven't got an orange yet haha but ive only been playing for like three or so days
Some people with i7 CPUs are reporting 100% CPU usage across all cores, this game is the new Prime95 burn test for your CPU!
Han Zie The game hits the CPU heavy maxed out. It will push my 4790k as high as 100% usage. First game I've seen do this.
Hi Mack, curious if your doing a review on AC Syndicate?
I never got a crash when playing the game or on the loading screen. For me it only randomly crashes sometimes in the tavern when I'm messing around with invites.
Its one of the best games to come out in the last 2 years.
loot system gives a lot of long term value
systems are a hell of a lot deeper than L4D, however fun it was
game is like dead island with l4d with rats instead of zombies, and it's fantastic
i've had one crash from a disconnect in 8 hours, on windows 10
Anusideral what specific but hurt are you talking about? hard to tell with the drama chasers nowadays
Anusideral what are you going on about? I have fun playing. Its a fun game. Thats my opinion. End of story
+Neil Scott Well he didn't say the game was bad.
It's on Jan 2017's humble monthly bundle, so maybe it's finally worth it since you'll also get $100+ of other games :)
How does this compare to "Left for Dead?" Also, how stable is it, on Master Race rigs?
Whats the name of the backgroundtrack?
For example, TF2 used to have a pretty damn good community back before it was free to play and turned into craft-fortress, now its full of children and over 40s taking the game as seriously as they would life.
uhm nah brah. I had made cool friends through warhammer community... and I just start playing it yesterday.
Different experience I guess.
I was thinking about buying this game, glad I didn't as I use amd. Would you review hacknet? Want a review on it
You should revisit it now.
Hi Mack. It looks like v1.01 was released today (10/25) and the changelog references several crashes that were fixed. If you still have the game installed, can you give us a quick update on this patch and whether it resolves the crashes that you experienced? Thanks very much! Keep up the good work!
finally someone that is not blind and can see that is a left 4 dead total conversion mod, you can do that in lfd 2 with a mod, and this game is 28$ when you can buy lfd 2 for 5 $ or less in the sales or in keys, but even worst, early access, dlc and no variety, im glad theres still people like you mack, thnks for helping people, because if it wasnt for you, a lot of money would go to greedy devs. that copie and paste games and release them.
only time i ever had crashes with this game were when my friend was having wifi issues and when they were having back end issues (back end was only like the first week). my set up is low tier and can run it. also they announced before release versus mode would be in a year :\
friedn of mine gets lots of crashes...i so far had 2 of them so i cant realy judge the crash view since its running for me fine
Two things, does it have a single player campaign mode and how is the communication done, chat or voice coms?
+Alexandar Valerian you can play singler player with bots, the game has built in voip
I see, cheers for the fast reply brother.
No problem, the bots use the gear you set for the classes but I dont normally play with bots.
+Alexandar Valerian voip and chat
Toxic community? -> Children :(
When will parents learn?
+koffieslikkersenior Guess it's too late to shove them back once they realize. :(
The video games do the raising and babysitting for the children instead of the parents.
toxic community? nah...
[CTD]
The game doesnt crash of me, but some times in a longer session go from 80fps to 10fps. I think its then most people crash and that there might be a memory leak in the code. The reason I dont crash at those points is mostly I presume because I have 32gigs of ram.
[Melee Combat]
I actually do not think the hit detection is "all over the place", but that they messed up a core thing about melee combat.
[VS Mode]
Is not there for the same reason the melee combat is shallow. VS Mode would take more time to developed AND need balance both character and map wise. There are already map exploits vs tanks etc... Another sign of lazy/min effort L4D copy.
[Maps]
Decent amount of maps and the look is great. Some of the maps have exploits that needs fixes though, but its not game enjoyment breaking.
[Loot]
Very RNG. You can tell the devs ether want you to buy cheapish character loot DLC or expect you to play "forever". Another sign they should have made the core aspect of the game better if they want people to actually do that.
*Bottom line:*
This game could have been allot more than it is and they could have had a epic success on their hands instead of a meh L4D clone, but overall its a decent L4D clone.
Thanks so much for the content, keep up the great work and brilliant reviews.
they have released a patch addressing a bunch of bugs... nothing much in terms of optimisation yet but it will be better in time I hope
I don't mean to play Devil's Advocate, but I have yet to crash even once playing this game. And by no means am I defending it, but my experience has been completely different. Fun game (though the fucking hitboxes are jacked as hell), no real problems with other players and smooth gameplay. Not a fanboy though, just my experience.
but dont you get it?!? you will be called a fan boy just for your positive experience and not agreeing with others who dislike it.
Why haven't you upgraded to Windows 10 yet? I find 10 to be really snappy and refined.
So is it left for dead or has a story mode?
old nintendo games used to get an official seal of quality before they were released to give the buyer the confidence that it had been tested and worked properly. They should bring that back for all platforms.
An AC Syndicate review would be nice, there's no reliable one yet.
Yes
+RhoadsAlive Uuuhhhh, YES!!!! I can't wait to hear whether I should go pay shitloads for the next shovelware bullshit from Ubicrap. :D PLX Mack, let us know!1
Then again, his ranting spree and the civil wars with braindead fanboy morons in the comments are always fun to watch. ^^
+RhoadsAlive heres my review play any assassins creed game and thats what the new one will be like
+RhoadsAlive It's not on PC yet
Mack nice review I also loved left 4 dead multiplayer it truly was fantastic.
Is the dlc worth it.
This game sounds and looks soooo awesome. Shame it's shite for stable functionality.
Mack, could you re-visit the game in about a month?
+Fuhq Ewe Yeah i agree, revisit this one
+Fuhq Ewe Eh, Crashes less than Dota 2 for me. :| :P
The biggest problem is that sometimes (dunno why or when exactly) the textures fuck up quite royally.
+Louis C.K It's fine I just ban them, no skin off my nose :)
+Louis C.K I completely agree. This channel is so refreshing. In a world where another tired and clunky assassin's creed gets 9s we need this channel.
I've been playing since the Beta and I've never crashed or been vote kicked...
sword coast legends review pls?
Mack can you please do a review on AC syndicate
Hey Mack! Can you review assassins creed syndicate?
It is quite weird how this game still ctd...and i got 3 friends who got almost same config pc:s..for 3 it works mostly like a dream but for one guy it does not want to co-operate but crash, lose connection, unable to join the same game...aah it's just so bad for him...
L4D3 will be out fairly soon (with the new Source 2-Engine)
What?!
Fairly = 2016 or 2017
Anu8ius Where do you know this from?
+Der Nerd Gotta have faith.
+Anu8ius I doubt it, LFD2 episode 1 perhaps and if we are really lucky episode 2, but 3. Thats just a pipedream.
Would you do a WAB on a F2P game? Im really wondering what you would give Planetside 2 and how much you would hatelove it :)
I can understand the gripes about the bugs, but you can't judge a game's quality by the people who choose to play it. It's the first few days after release- that community is likely to expand and change.
I giggle every time you hit that bell, LOL! Thanks for the info and the entertainment sir!
I was just defending TB's honesty really, the OP implied he was dishonest by saying yours was refreshing and then bringing up TB, I only follow honest youtubers, I know his opinion is worth just as much as yours
TB got me interested in the game, you told me to check out the forums to see if it will work on my set-up before buying... and gave me a possible discount!
I'm playing it in 2018 and can say that:
It could be okay, but they got a lot of work to do and shit to fix first.
i'd like to add that during the beta there were like NO crashes at all, they only appeared on launch for some reason :X
+Otto “Necro” Seitamaa Don't know who told you that but it's rubbish, these bugs have been around a while now, I had them last week well before launch.
I liked L4D. This actually looks like it might be fun when it's fixed. Might pick it up on a sale or bundle with DLC in the future.
I had no issue what so ever with crash, have played for 11 hours up to now. No bugs either and a solid 60fps.
I have not had any of the troubles you have had. I love this game. No crashing, no problems with hit boxes and no one has been toxic to me.
Community awful? = Subjective
Combat doesnt feel that solid, range seems to vary?
I played the beta and crashed all the damn time even though i could run it great and they still havent fixed it?
Thanks for your honest reviews much appreciated.
Mack, you need more subs because your videos are great
EQOAnostalgia I might give it a chance but I still like Mack's reviews because he has a low bullshit tolerance.
EQOAnostalgia Yeah thats a good point, hopefully he comes back to the game once it is better optimized
EQOAnostalgia I think your right, I might give this game a try
It would be nice if you could review natural selection 2!
I foresee 50% off in the summer sales for this game I'll wait
I never actually listen to your recommendation I watch your videos because your pretty entertaining
Vile scumbags is my new favorite go to diss word, thanks Mack!
ive played this game 5 hours straight on launch day no crash yes the host disconnected but that was cause he left the lobby after the match the community seems quite alright no raging ppl yet i must say the collision detection is a bit iffy cauase blocking works for blocking damage but the enemies walk trough the shield but the shield bash will work for that the optimazation is still a bit shit but turning gore off helps alot even tho there is almost no visual difference there is still blood anyway ive played it for 5 hours and finished 3 lvls and the developers have said in there interview that it was heavily based on l4d2
I actually bought this game for me and a friend this weekend. Couldn't play it tho so I had to return it. Great fun.
I haven't had crashing problems, but I have been kicked out of loads of games by people before even getting to show them how shit I am!
Funny review. Don't stop with the voice commentary XD
Thanks for another honest review man, keep it up!
Mack im really torn about wether to get this, because i fucking love the theme and the whole essence of left for dead, but hearing about the bugs and crashes is putting me off.
+OFFICIALGamingJayZ I would grab it off steam, you can always refund it if the game crashes all the time like I did.
Worth A Buy
Fair point, what happens if i get it from greenman, will i still be able to get refunded?
+OFFICIALGamingJayZ Nope
Nice review, are you going to do a Assassin's Creed Syndicate review?
+RedX165 Not in the near future as I am away from tomorrow for 12 days
Mack, your slogan should be, "a guy who hates video games, reviews video games"
But seriously, love your vids man, been subbed for a while. I haven't played a good game since 2000 when diablo 2 came out. That said I kinda like this game (not love), and I knew you wouldn't like it hahaha
Yo Mack can you review Zombie Army Trilogy?
That beautiful music...
Dope review mate. Can you please review tera online next?
I've never understood how running around pressing the R trigger was supposed to feel like swinging a sword. Can't we come up with some other kind of combat innovation than "look at enemy, press R"?
+Paw print Mount and Blade? It's abstract, but it has some core elements of fencing such as positioning (to you enemy, but also in a group), timing you attack and anticipating your enemy's move.
+Paw print Don't forget the cannon fodder AI masses you slay by the dozen each wave to feel empowered. Did those devs never lay their hand on the likes of Dark Souls?
