Ive never thought about getting anything done but whilst watching this i was considering what i should get. But thankfully i snapped out of it quickly. I just hope this video doesn’t make others feel like they need to get stuff done. Embrace your natural beauty ladies. Don’t let social media make u feel like your not good enough!

Such an important comment! I appreciate Sam's honesty about this subject, but I do think it's pretty dangerous for 'influencers' (I hate that word) to talk about these things without seriously discussing things like body image and mental health. Sponsored video or not, intentional or not, influencers sell things.

The thing is: this isn’t about “let women do whatever they want to their bodies”, this is about a huge social problem that is making women believe there is a certain way to look. Is Sam allowed to do whatever the hell she wants with herself? Obviously. Has Sam got caught in a narrative that tells us we can’t age, have to have our cheeks sunken in, nose thin, no wrinkles, no bags under eyes, etc etc etc? Yes. I appreciate Sam being brave and putting this video out there, but i do NOT appreciate how it will make tons of women feel. The idea of looking at my face and seeing issues to solve is horrific to me. If anyone ever feels like they need a procedure after a procedure, especially at such a young age - they need help looking at themselves from the inside and realizing who the hell told them that shit. If you think you’ve got a few things to fix at 20 - you’ll keep getting more and more of them as time goes on.

As a 41 year lady who likes you.
I'm 41 year old mother of 5 and people always tell me how amazing young I look. I can't bring myself to ever touch my face.
Please, this is coming from someone who likes you. I'm not a troll. You're a beautiful girl. I've seen your very old videos. You've always been a beautiful girl even your personality appears beautiful too.
Please.Please.please be careful with what you do to your looks... ( your face in particular)
Some of these things comes back to hunt people later in life.
I could list many celebrities who the things they did to their faces make them look unnatural as they got older.
You're a grown woman and can do whatever you want. I'm just advising you to please be careful.

    • @pastelrose9980
      @pastelrose9980 6 років тому +48

I don't see why. To me the transparency and honesty around the topic is positive rather than negative. It's far better than people lying about their appearance and claiming that it is their natural appearance because that leaves people wondering why they can't achieve that look. When people are honest about filler, surgery etc it helps people to realise that this isn't natural and I think it does make people feel more positive. There is nothing wrong with having any sort of procedure like this and people shouldn't be shamed for it.

    • @tuyn8403

I totally agree with you. Research proves that young people (girls) are affected a lot by these influences that do so much stuff to there face. The fact that Samantha is talking about this as if it is the most normal thing in the world only makes it worse. It is not normal it is hideous.

Love hearing about your experiences with getting work done! It scares me a bit when influencers don't disclose if they've had something done - not that they have to, but as it's our job to be "aspirational" I prefer it when people disclose any cosmetic procedures. I think you've approached this in such a great way, really factual and honest with good reviews of the process involved. I hope your viewers can understand that whilst they might have personal opinions about people getting surgery, you have approached the topic really well and with transparency and knowledge xxx

As a subscriber for 6 years, I admire your honestly and the ease you are able to talk about this with. I’m glad that you’re going you and you’re happy with how you look! But I’ve gotta say (and please don’t take this the wrong way, because this isn’t coming from a place of hate at all) this is so worrying sammi! It’s not the norm to talk about cosmetic procedures like a shopping list, and the fact you forgot you under eye filler is even more cause for concern. You’ve had so much done you can’t remember off the top of your head and it makes me feel sad. It’s clear there’s a much deeper issue, and that you’re using your good income to get procedures with ease (which can become a real issue when money issues pose no incentive to stop what could easily become an addiction). Just please take care sammi, there will always been another thing you don’t like about yourself that you can pay to get fixed, but you can’t buy a good mindset and self love ♥️

I just find it interesting how all the beauty bloggers I follow that made self love and confidence videos in 2008-2012 have now all succumbed to the pressures of social media by having surgical procedures. It just comes across as phoney! Like those videos 10 years ago weren’t genuine - “love yourself until you’ve got enough money to change yourself.”
Funnily enough, I have no issue with plastic surgery. I follow Trisha Paytas! Plastic surgery queen, difference is she hasn’t made videos about self confidence whilst getting work done (not that I know of anyway).

I am here to respectfully disagree. What is wrong with spreading a positive message even if you don't necessarily feel that way yourself? I'm 18 and would genuinely love botox but I'm definitely not getting any! Mainly because I'm about to start university and that isn't really in the budget. I don't think that it's phoney at all. I think it's positive for influencers to be honest about surgical procedures or any botox etc. Spreading self love and having surgery etc are not mutually exclusive in my opinion.

I like how men are allowed to wrinkle into cool wizards with massive bellies. There is a part of me that thinks 'yer! empowerment! put that filler in your face!', but mainly I think ARE THE MEN DOING THIS? No. they are not.

Exactly! And it’s not just about the wrinkles, men can also suffer from bad skin, have dark under eye circles, receeding hairline, whathever, but it’s only women that are expected to cover and fix their imperfections. All the same imperfections are perceived normal and natural on men and completely unnaceptable on women. And what is even worse, these expectations are placed on us not only by the media and beauty industry, but our workplaces as well.

  • @1saramak

I’m nowhere near perfect but I can’t imagine ever being so fixated on my face. I guess once you get started you become more aware of small ‘imperfections’ such as smile lines etc. It just sounds so incredibly time consuming - not only getting the procedures done but also the constant worrying about unimportant things, such as how your smile lines makes you look older. At the same time I guess I can understand the pressure especially when working in social media. But still fuck fillers, botox and the rest. It’s ok to have smile lines, wonky boobs and dark underarms. I don’t care what anyone says, these videos where youtubers feel the need to overexplain why they needed to get these procedures done, does nothing but trigger many to scrutinise themselves and think critically about their own bodies

So sad. There's far far more to life than looks. When you see a patient with permanent eye muscle paralysis who can never shut their eye again, you perhaps realise how dangerous these procedures are and how ridiculous they are. Not one person who has had unnecessary procedures done can honestly say it was worth it when they face unfortunate complications. This is coming from a GP. Please be very aware of complication.
Dear vlogger- it's absolutely fine to share your experience but please be very wary that telling viewers to "Just go for it if you've been thinking about it for ages" - this is extremely reckless and should be always followed by informing re: risks.

Honestly, this video makes me really sad. I've been watching since 2010 and it just seems you've so deeply fallen victim to the world of social media and superficiality. I have no problem with cosmetic procedures at all, I think if they're done for the right reasons then I'm all for it, it's your life do what you wanna do. Whatever makes you happier. But when talking about your mole, you said if it's something you think about every single day just do it because it'll make you happier afterward. The problem is that the feeling of insecurity about something like a mole doesn't just come from the mole. And the 'happiness' you feel afterward isn't real, it's just relief from feeling like there's one less reason to feel un-pretty. It's so important to understand yourself and figure out why having that mole bothers you so much, why you fixate on something so irrelevant on a daily basis. Because yes you can easily remove the mole and stop having to think about it, but the source of that insecurity stays and moves on to another flaw you fixate on. Cosmetic surgery is like putting a band-aid on your insecurities, quieting them for a while until they find something else to make you worry about. Without ever resolving the insecurities causing you to want work done, you just keep finding other procedures and other things that 'need fixing,' - it becomes a never ending, fruitless attempt to feel worthy based simply off your outer appearance. I wish the best to you, Sam, but sadly this channel is now founded on values that don't align with me.

I recognize that completely and I don't have a problem with the cosmetic procedures themselves. I have a problem with her telling hundreds of thousands of impressionable viewers that if there's something on their face they don't like, they should just get it removed so they'll be happier. The way one chooses to live their life is completely up to their choosing. But what she's doing is projecting her decisions and her reasoning for cosmetic surgery onto the lives of subscribers, very few of whom make their living in a primarily appearance based industry. It's not about HER reason for getting the cosmetic procedure. It's about her lack of responsibility over the enormous degree of influence her words have on the people who watch this video and the emotional implications of what they might mean on an individualized basis.

You’re opinions on whether it was a pick me up or if it’s something to do with dysmorphia is irrelevant and not very empathetic. This comment was suppose to shed light on how views on beauty change and therefore our own perceptions of ourselves change along - we can all fall victims to this in different ways and just because sam decided to do something about it for herself (whether they are about insecurity or not) doesn’t mean she’s inferior or it was a ‘dumb’ decision. Sigh. I cannot stomach it when women bash or berate other women for what they chose to do their body. Especially under the guise of “feminism”. There is nothing feminist about telling a woman what they can or cannot do their body and what reasons she can or cannot use to justify those procedures. You don’t have to get cosmetic procedures if you don’t want to; you can if you do. You may regret it, you may not. The point is that choice is awesome and shaming someone for exercising their right to choose is kinda a trash thing to do. One thing I would like to point out is that Sam appears to do things out her own volition and not to please anyone or anything other than herself. It doesn’t have to be your cup of tea. But damn, can the girl drink hers without y’all spitting in it?
Edit: Please read carefully. If you have disagreements about body modifications, that’s your business and it’s fine. It’s sad, however, when women object to them under the basis of being a feminist or promoting feminism. That’s YOUR personal beef with cosmetic procedures based on YOUR own biases - and, again, that’s fine. Own it. Love it. Speak your truth to power around it. Just don’t parade it under womanism or feminism because that whole movement is about the ability to choose what happens to your body - or what doesn’t happen to it, if that’s not your thing. And we are all entitled to our opinions and to be disappointed - but show some intellectual bravery and rigor if you have the balls to post it on the internet. Don’t hide it behind a movement that really doesn’t espouse what you’re promoting. Just say you ain’t with the cosmetic surgeries and that’s that and go in living your best life.

A couple of things. I think you're quite brave to not only make this video, but also to leave the comment section open. To the people saying, "I thought you were a natural beauty," if it's all mostly gone now and you barely noticed that she'd done anything, then that means that she is a "natural beauty". I also think it's unrealistic to believe that someone whose image is their brand and business, wouldn't do some tweaks here and there. You view images on IG all day and every single one is edited. What you're seeing is not what you'll get in real life so I'm not understanding the backlash below. You clicked on the video to watch but knowing that you were against it and then still left a comment. I just don't get it. Then it seems like a lot of the commenters would get these things done, but don't because they can't afford it and so in the interim are commenting on how sad it is that she's "uncomfortable in her skin".

I almost never comment!!!!! HOWEVER, the comment section of this video has me seething. It's actually sad how many people feel the need to write about how confident they are in themselves to never go under the knife or how insecure they think Sammi is because of the decisions she's made. I'm not pulling this out of nowhere, I'm literally referencing actual comments that I'm reading as I write this :/ Sammi made a disclaimer at the beginning of this video. If you are morally against this topic, just drop your dislike and head on out. The thinly veiled snarky comments being costumed as concern make me sad, not only for Sam, but for anyone that wants to be transparent with their audience. Yes there are more and more videos of people detailing their procedures, BECAUSE they feel safe and regard their subscribers as their peers/friends in whom they can confide.I personally have no interest in cosmetic procedures for myself, but that doesn't make me abhor the thought of it for other individuals. People are having cosmetic procedures whether or not they're telling us. I just wanted to break the monotony of negative comments and tell Sam that she's beautiful!!! I understand the need to improve yourself, but ... yeah, it's not what I want to see promoted on social media (not that you DO promote it, just generally speaking). Mainly because even though I am adult, it still influences me. And I cannot imagine young girls watching this and spending hours checking themselves in the mirror, saving up for surgeries and injections rather than learning to love who they are in this moment. Their freckles, moles, wrinkles, stretch marks, rosacea... Of course, I have no right to judge, and I am happy if those things made YOU feel happy.
I suppose this just isn't my cup of tea. I'd rather follow raw influencers who embrace their unique features. And as an artist, I think these "perfect" faces aren't all that interesting. But you do you. Much love

Ive never cared what anyone does to themselves or even been anti surgery. I think it’s great if it makes you happy. But once I had my daughter, I see videos like this and I get kind of sad because I can’t imagine listening to her list a bunch of things she doesn’t love about herself when I love and adore every bit of her. It would break my heart, so I go above and beyond to tell her that she was created to be a wonderful, smart and powerful woman instead of harping on how beautiful her looks are.

Society: Do what makes you happy. Love yourself. Better yourself. Strive for more.
Person: Gets lip filler, her brows done, and a mole removed.
Society: How depressing. You're setting a bad example. Good for you but "I" would NEVER do that. "You don't love yourself."
People get over yourselves. EVERYTHING she has gotten done other than tattoos either fades or is reversible. NEVER once did she say you need to do this. Never once did she say she hated her looks/herself so she did it. These comments are honestly so laughable and hypocritical. I guarantee each one of you does something for vanity. Whether its caking on makeup, buying expensive clothes or bags, dying your hair, getting highlights or extensions. None of what any of us do is considered "natural". Ive watched Sammi for soooo many years. And after "all this work" (which isnt even a lot or drastic) she hasn't ever been ingenuine or truly different since her days of winter lookbooks and her Doc Martins. People get over yourselves. If you dont like fillers or plastic surgery you shouldnt have clicked the video.

I'm baffled by the amount of UA-camrs I follow that actually had work done on their face. No wonder everybody on here looks flawless. It's just like with the girls in magazines. Their 'edited'.
Kinda makes me feel crap that the people I look up to, have had work done to look perfect because I thought growing older I would come to accept certain flaws. This makes me think that to truly feel beautiful I need to 'tweak' myself. Seems like everybody else is.
PS: This is not meant to be mean! I still love your videos and appreciate you being upfront and genuine. Just had a huge reality check. The truth is fillers are not permanent and you can love yourself and still get fillers and procedures done! You can still look like yourself and get procedures done. Not going to direct any personal comments toward the lovely Sam. Just wanted to say that I was almost relieved to read some of the comments here; insightful, intelligent and just pure common sense from a lot of people thankfully.
The idea of perfection has become so dominant that young females are getting injections in their face to become more proportioned?! To me this is utter madness.
Also to be honest when I look at Hollywood stars...from the ones you have ‘subtle’ work done (say Jennifer Aniston) to the not so subtle (Madonna) I don’t like what they’ve done to their faces. So starting fillers and Botox in your 20s is madness, I would be worried I’d look like a puffed out Cat woman in my 30s but that’s just me.
Yes each to their own but I’m glad most other people have a sensible approach when it comes to these kind of aesthetics.

Hi Sam, just some advice on the tooth whitening.. Please please please go to a dentist to have this done! And ideally not a "celebrity dentist". When it comes to anything to do with your health and body you have to be so careful with the professionals you choose to use obviously, like you said in the video, do your research 🙂 I'm not sure of the laws in the UK but here in Ireland a dentist can only sell tooth bleaching kits up to 16% carbamide peroxide which works really well... Polanite is a brand that gives really nice results but it is an at home kit. I know you said you'd like the convenience of having it done in clinic but I feel that because the at home kit is so gradual it make the process safer. Also you can keep the trays and get a top up kit in a few months or years when the coffee has taken its toll again and that way you don't have to pay for another full session 😀 anyway hope this helps, you look lovely as always pretty lady ❤️

    Hi Samantha,
I have to say, that I agree with a lot of the comments on this video and it makes me so happy and relieved, that people are taking a critical stand on this topic. After I have discovered the body positivity community on Instagram, i have definitely become more critical on how I’ve been socialized to believe, that I have to look a certain way all my life and how I in many ways think that this is the foundation of the mental struggles I have had throughout my life. I think that it is really important to have this conversation about, for what reasons we are doing these things to ourselves and be more critical. Thinking that we do this for ourselves because we ‘’would like to try it’’, ‘’fix’’ insecurities or whatever, in my opinion is just naive, this will only maintain this culture, where we have to look in a certain way. There are ideals that we are trying to live up to, and the socialization is such a strong force. I just feel like the important discussion to have by now is, why do we buy into this? Why do we think that this will fix our insecurities? Why do so many young people struggle with eating disorders in so many forms? Why are we so focus on exercise, make-up, surgeries and constantly looking in a certain way? Do we actually believe that this begins and ends in ourselves, or is it something we are taught from a very young age? What is wrong with looking like our natural self, with body hair, sweat, saggy boobs, stretch marks, cellulite, fat, etc.? Why are we made to think, that these natural elements of our body are in fact unnatural and something that we need to get rid of and fix?
More importantly I think we need to be aware of what we are reproducing every time we buy into this and how we are influencing a generation of young people to have the same insecurities and excessive focus on their looks, as we have grown up with. I think that we need to set ourselves free by criticising the culture we live in.
With this said I would like to emphasise that my aim with this comment is not to make you feel bad about the decisions you have made, I do not believe that it is not your fault that you buy into this. You have grown up in this society and culture, and you have been exposed to and influenced by these ideals your whole life like the rest of us!!! AND on top of that, a great part of your job is within this culture, and there is a big focus on your looks from both your viewers and the partners you work with. This must be difficult in so many ways. I don't mean this as a patronizing comment, rather i just want to give you credit. I guess my point is that it is not our fault that we think that we have these needs, but I just believe that life will be better and easier if we try to set ourselves free from them and fight against them.
I really hope that this topic is something that you will consider commenting on.
Also please check out the body positivity community on instagram (especially bodyposipanda, antidietriotclub and theslumflower). There are so many amazing people fighting for all of us. Finding this corner of the internet has changed my life in so many ways.
    All the best, Julie

As someone who works in the industry, it's honestly very sad how uneducated and unaware people are about these procedures. The amount of people that get cosmetic procedures is so large, and so many women do it, they just don't talk about it because everyone shames them, as these comments are shaming Sam. So many women do it and are hush hush about it. Not everyone that gets cosmetic procedures look like a troll. GOOD doctors enhance what you already look like, that's why its important to do your research. Sam actually has the balls to make a video like this for those who are too "afraid" or "ashamed" due to ignorant comments like these. Sam, you look amazing, and you define good cosmetic work because you look absolutely stunning, but most importantly you look like yourself. The comments on this video are really refreshing. The world my little nieces are growing up in frightens me.

I think it's so great of you to talk about what you've had done. I've had my nose done now but for so long I was a little judgemental of any other surgeries because I saw it as a life changing surgery for me but now I see that it's totally a personal choice. My nose is only slightly noticeable but I LOVE it. It has made such a different to my life and I am always happy to chat about it. It's so important that your talking about your procedures on your platform. So proud of you ❤️❤️❤️
