Marshall JVM 410h vs Peavey 5150

- Guitar is a Kramer Night Swan with a JB Pickup. Leo is playing guitar while I switch amps on a Radial Amp Switcher. Both amps are going through a Mesa 2x12 V30 cab.
Recording quality is not great but its true in the room with an iphone. I will be doing high quality recordings in the future.
I've never played a JVM, but I have a 5150 combo that I adore! I think this guy has the settings all screwed up on that 5150 because in my experience that amp has more brightness than I could ever use and here it sounds muddy. And this is coming from someone who loves a bright tone.
JVM wins by far in my opinion
It’s no wonder. Look at the settings. The bass and mids are at like 3 each. He does not apparently know how to dial a proper tone.
5150 is perfect for certain types of metal. Its distortion is like sandpaper with coarse granularity. I don't like it for overdrive/clean because it can sound too rough. JVM distortion has fine granularity and it is a super versatile amp. From clean to od2 red, many tones are usable. These 2 amps do not replace each other.
JVM in a mix sounds too compressed. I need to work on opening it up. Thats usually where the mids work.
@@cap217cap217 It is difficult, I tried, Gave it almost 2 years, and Had to sell it. It had the sound, but lacked the dynamics.
That jvm cuts through!!
To my ears the JVM sounds much brighter, way more clarity - sounds like it would cut through the mix way better - the 5150 sounds dark, mushy, and quiet. Could just be the settings but that's how it came across to me. I vote JVM hands down.
he has gain on the 5150 too high
IT SOUNDS WHAT ? QUIET ?
I DO NOT KNOW , CAN CALL IT THAT WAY 🤭
Good ol' Marshall crunch. Can't be beat.
Both amps sound great. I own a 6505.
I own a Marshall JVM 410h. I have to say I think I made the right choice. It would be great to blend these tones and see what result is possible. Mesa Boogie is a great blending pair otherwise.
I'm admittedly a Marshall guy through & through..... but when it came time that I could finally afford a new modern metal head, I tried various heads in a local GC in one sitting..... a 5150, a Dual Rectifier, a JVM 410H and a 100w DSL ...... the JVM blew my freaking socks off. It was tighter, more focused and aggressive sounding and I worked my way through the channels ( clean to crunch, onto OD1 & then OD2 etc. ) and up the gain stages....by the time I got to OD2 I was just like, forget it.... I'm done here .... I'll take it, right now!! Never looked back, and no need to either. To my ears, there's simply no comparison ..... and for those that prefer the darker thicker sound of say, a 5150 or whatever, just mess with the EQ & try out out OD2 & it can get you there .... or anywhere else. JVM all the way.
do you still have it? Any update?
@@tgchan I still have it, will always have it.Nothing to update, it still sounds glorious.
@@Stitsel Thank you for the information/ I might get it soon. Which cab have you paired it with?
@@tgchan a JCM800 Lead 1960A w/V30s, which sounds killer....but I'm thinking of getting a 1960B w/G12T-75s, for a bit more low end thump...but the V30s sound great
@@Stitsel yea I am thinking about BV or B with t-75s. Can't really listen to them in person and can't be arsed ordering two, heaving them, testing and then send one back. Ideally I would love to keep both lol. I am all for thump, doesn't even have to be low end. But palm mutes need to punch like Chinese kung fu mastesr/
Hi, nice one... which one do you recommend buying to get mostly good rock/metal distortion sound ? Or just a like a single amp overall ? I know this peavey from ultimate metal sound and cut through the mix with solos. I've just discovered jvm410h and i'm confused. I have also 2x12 on evm 12l closed-opened back and I'm looking for "in your face" amp before I have to change everything on PC and phones. Pickups are passive dimarzio super distortion on the bridge.
Regards !
5150 is more fizzy and saturated. The JVM can sound good on a few channels. The 5150 is more of a 1 trick amp. The JVM can be programmed with midi and save all your settings. Hard choice. Its whatever sounds good to you.
If you don't play extreme metal (black/death/nu prog) and sometimes use clean and overdrive, I would definitely recommend the JVM.
5150's can sound much better than that.
You set the 5150's Gain on 8. You can get saturated face melting tones with a 5150's Gain on 3 or 4. Setting it to 8 makes the amp into unplayable mush. Set it to 5 or maybe 6 at the absolute max. 8 is insane. Also, turn the Presence up. Current setting is WAY too dark. A 5150's Presence doesn't really even start to do anything until around 6 or 7. Set it somewhere between 7 and 9 for clarity. No wonder the Marshall kills it here.
This guy 5150s
Hmmm Master volume on the 5150 isnt helping the tone. It opens up a whole lot at around at 9 oclock. before that you get alot of the crosstalk around the effects loop.
The Marshall kerrang!
No contest at all...JVM. I bought a used 5150 years ago, had it a week, resold it. Not impressed. JVM walks it here...
Man, this comparison wasn't even close. IMO the JVM destroyed that 5150. Was it dialed in properly? Old tubes?
I've got a 410H and a Peavey Invective. I can't even begin to explain how much better the Invective sounds than the 410. Not. Even. Close.
Are the eq settings the same? If not it’s an unfair fight. But I’ll take my Orange over either of them!
Mids were set pretty low on the 5150. Need to be at least 1-2 O’Clock.
Marshall is more of my tone The new 5150 might be a challenge to the Marshall ?
Mode on the JVM?
why cut the 5150 mids so drastically? beats the purpose of the amp
Marshall by far.. has a better tone, more depth, more clarity.. more noticeable sound than the peavy
5150 is set too dark here, and maybe too much gain on the both of them. Sounds mushy
the 5150's EQ is awful, doesn't do it justice. Back the gain off a bit, lows on 6, highs 7ish, resonance is fine, presence 7.5. Post gain 2 minimum (yeah it's loud but that's where 5150/6505's open up)
The Marshall sounds great here. The settings on the 5150 are messed up, almost intentionally to skew the outcome. My 5150 doesn’t sound like this. This one sounded muddy. Something wrong here.
you should set both at 12 and then compare
Dude. Why are your mids and low almost down to zero???
Because the guy who was playing set the amps like he likes them. And we are using V30s.
iPhone mic prefers the Marshall. The Peavey sounds like a Peavey. They don't like the Sparkle and Brass Marshall excels at.
The JVM would've been even better if you'd have used the OD1 orange channel
You think? Vs a 5150 I think red is more comparable. I can do it in the future. I have a 205h modded to try out.
@@cap217cap217 Not sure, but certainly worth comparing - I'd watch. I mainly suggested it as the amber mode on OD1 is where the JVM shines. OD2 is nowhere near as good.
Totally, is the channel I use most and for me at least is the best one for metal or hard rock music. For leads I just use OD2 with more high, middle and volume settings or just the OD1 orange with a TS9.
@@cap217cap217 OD2 has the mids shifted lower than OD1. 500hz vs 650hz I believe
@@cap217cap217 Rabea Masaad likes his JVM and plays some heavy high gain stuff and I get the impression from his video that he thinks the red channel is too much and sticks it the orange channel
The JVM pedal switching is TITS 💫
Marshall all the way
Marshall wins .... not even close
This isn’t a real comparison.
JVM
Jvm win
better Marshall
No on eroa!
Wierd the marshall sounds better im a 5150 6505 guy to
Listening back I think the 5150 has the mids too low and the bass up too much which makes it sound bad on the microphone.
In the rehearsal local we have both JVM410H (mine) and a 6505+ from a friend, using the same cabs (Marshall 1960A with G12) sounds darker and meaner. The JVM sounds brighter which makes it tastier for riffing, at least for me haha
@@Magnetorr i guess frequency is always different over the internet i know when you record and export your tracks you always loose high frequency.. i like that Marshall tho sounds good..
@@Magnetorr Gotta go with the classic 6 6 6 EQ bud
@@suffersystemstudios And OD1 even sounds better! (This video is on JVM's OD2 channel).
the 5150 can sound MUCH better than that
