- The next Smash game is likely going to be smaller than Ultimate due to how enormous Ultimate is and comments from Sakurai himself saying so. I've seen this idea floating around UA-cam lately so I wanted to give my take.

good video but i do feel like certain segments made it reeeally obvious you watched the mockrock video and started working on this one (namely the xenoblade segment, sheik, & zss) :p

Cutting the miis is CRAZY considering how much money they must make Nintendo with the costumes, and the fact that they give more character rep in smash that aren’t actual characters.
It's definitely true that they give the chance for more character costumes to make it in. I just hate how they all play, it's so lame. If they overhauled movesets or made some new customizable character avatars I would be down, but otherwise I think they're just too lame.

So something I want to comb through this with is outside of personal bias, what character is one of these removed characters replaceable by?
Initially I was upset with robin, since the most interesting of FE playstyle, and actually representative of the games. But it’s replaced by Hero relatively well enough, sword guy with magic.
Sheik got replaced by Greninja. Which is a close enough proxy.
Ness and Lucas’s closest proxy is mega man or Zeldor, which is a rough transition.
Animal Crossing players could with reasonable effort convert to pac man or link.
Don’t know what rob players are going to do, don’t know what game and watch players are going to do. Pyra and Myrthra can just convert to another existing sword character like Ike or Marth to mimic one or the other.
I’d keep one of lucario or mewtwo in the game, and I’d keep lucina instead of marth. To make up for the 1 extra character difference I’d remove Joker.
I didn't even think about this angle. That's super smart - making sure each player has a suitable rep to move to. Ness and Lucas are both pretty unique compared to the rest of the cast, so keeping one would be smart. I don't think ROB players need a specific replacement - I'm sure they can find another item-play character like Diddy or Mega Man. Definitely okay with Lucina over Marth.
The one thing I dislike with your final roster is that there are no Wii representative
I think Diddy should be swapped for either Rosalina, the Mii, or Wii Fit Trainer
My pick would be Wii Fit Trainer
You've got Shulk from the original Xenoblade on the Wii still represented. But I'd be fine keeping Rosa if we needed another Wii era rep. But cutting Diddy?? My heart 😭
I've had this game since Sora was released, and still haven't played it.🤦 My backlog is beyond ridiculous. I'm in the middle of playing Xenoblade 2 right now.
Holy crap, that's an intense time sync to be in the middle of 😂 I think I got a quarter of the way through that one before taking a break. I need to go back and finish it.
I agree with most of your picks but you're insane to keep Incineroar and Greninja instead of Mewtwo and Lucario. They're much more iconic and we already have enough starter Pokemon with Trainer.
I just think Mewtwo and Lucario aren't nearly as fun to play. I completely agree Mewtwo is more iconic, but we already have Gen 1 represented with Trainer. I'd be fine swapping Lucario for Greninja, but Incineroar is just so unique and fun to play.

There is no reason why Ness should be cut and captain falcon should stay imo. As you said, F Zero is outdated and because of the fact we're keeping Ganondorf, he's pratically a echo fighter. I would debate which to keep between him or Ganon but as you said, you wanna keep as many villains as possible. Ness is an icon of Smash, I'd personally keep him
That's totally fair and valid. That one is purely my own preference since I prefer rushdown characters 😂 but Ness is 100% more unique and worthy of the spot over Falcon since Ganon is staying.

Fiiiine you can have Lucario, but just because you're my pops. I figured if I cut Mewtwo I have to cut Lucario. But he does have a lot of staying power so you're probably right.

I knowwwww, I actually really like him too. I'm playing Mother 3 right now and he's so sick. If I had to keep one I'd cut Ness first.
The mother franchise isn't relevant anymore? Clean that tongue! Haven't you seen the amount of indie games inspired by earthbound? Also we can replace ike with robin, FE already got too much of a bad reputation with swordfighters, the games actually have more to offer than blue haired swordies.
You're absolutely right, but Mother itself just hasn't done anything forever (which sucks since it's really good). Robin for Ike definitely makes sense - Robin is very unique compared to all the other FE swordies.
We can argue Robin and Hero encroach on each other’s turf, and looking at the roster we could remove Ike because ganon and sephiroth fit the slow sword user archetype.
I’d remove marth for Lucina due to relevance for FE players.
So there, 1 FE rep.
