Ya'll- I made this yesterday and cut it into 8 pieces. There's only 1 left! It was a huge hit in our household. A couple pieces of advice- put the pie pan on a baking sheet before you put it in the oven because mine definitely bubbled over. If you have leftover crust, cut up another apple or two with some seasonings and put them in ramekins with the extra crust on top. Little mini pies for breakfast! and lastly- I didn't have time to make my own crust, so I did store bought and it was still great. Everyone was ooohing and aaahing over this store-bought-crust!
Congrats!! I want to make it but Question! Was your pie dish as deep as the one he used? I have a shallower pie pan and was wondering if it would work with this recipe but making it in 2 of my shallow pie pan
Great advice! Mine bubbled over last night and it started smelling like it was burning which sent me into a panic. I had to take the pie out and let oven cook down. Scrubbed the burnt stuff off the buttom of oven and put it back in for another 20 mins. We’ll see how they like it today! ❤❤
Like all of John’s recipes this one is OUTRAGEOUSLY AWESOME ! Never once has one of his recipes failed nor lived up to expectations ! From Cape Cod I thank you immensely. Plus we love your humor and your stories !
I made this pie and it was the best pie I ever had in my life. Usually I don't care about pie as a dessert but this recipe changed my mind! I topped it off with ice cream and it was perfect.
Came out AMAZING, I spent 2 and a half hours on it including baking with the help of a friend. All my friends and family loved it and it inspired me to bake more. Next stop - Cheese Cake!!
I made my first apple pie using this recipe. Wow! I was amazed at how wonderful it came out. I love your videos and can't wait to try out more recipes. ♥
Trust me your channel is one which made me feel comfortable about baking And give me the confidence to bake It’s not like other channel I like your simple technique so nice and simple Thank you for not making it difficult and scary for beginners like me Love from India 🇮🇳 ❤
I agree with you. I like my apple pies done and not crunchy. I really hate Granny Smith apples because they never seem to cook up. My favorite pineapples are earligolds among others. But, I love in Washington state, and we have so many choices for apples. Washington State University developed an Apple called cosmic crisp and they are delicious. However I don’t like them in pie. They don’t really cook up either.
@@flvffcinna For pies/crumbles you have to cut the apples around 1cm cubes or smaller and cook then in a big pan first for like 10 minutes. It makes a huge difference as a commenter said above preppy kitchen has an apple pie made with cooking the apples first.
I agree! When I slice apples I like to set them in a bowl of water and lemon juice for a few minutes before drizzling some warm Carmel and chocolate over them. Put them in the freezer for a couple minutes for the chocolate to harden and ✨ Carmel apple slices ✨
Note to future self: don’t bake this when hungry and craving apple pie. You’ll just skip steps, choose the wrong baking container and burn the to (just a little). In any case, it’ll take hours before you can have a piece.
Absolutely divine! This apple pie is the quintessence of fall flavors wrapped in a flaky, buttery embrace. The balance between the tartness of the Granny Smiths and the sweetness of the Honeycrisps and Fujis is pure magic. The spiced aroma just beckons for a cozy evening in. It's clear that this recipe has been perfected with love, and the homemade touch makes all the difference. I can’t wait to make it the centerpiece of my holiday dessert table. Thanks for sharing such a treasured family recipe - it's like getting a warm hug from autumn itself! 🍁🥧🍎
I made my own pie crust with gluten free flour and shredded butter pieces , ice cold water and coconut oil . And his inside with lemons , sugar and cinnamon. And It came out pretty amazing , super crispy flakey crust and apples had good tart because of lemons. I like this recipe very much , I like to see if he has any savory pie recipes . I would totally recommend
This apple pie is good but i still like your other one from 4 years ago that u made on here its amazing and still make it multiple times a year with your crust
Anyone who is capable of waiting four hours for it to cool before having a slice is a sick crazy maniac. Lol. 😂. I’m counting down each second for a minimum 15 -30 minute cool down. Great recipe very helpful. Thank you.
I love the big bowl you used to mix everything together; I love using mine. My GreatGrandmother used a mix of milk and sugar on the pie crust, talk about that first bite - it’s the tasty way to welcome autumn - I always have an empty pie pan ☺️ It’s a perfect day in Oklahoma to make an apple pie 😃 it’s crispy, light breeze, and a beautiful blue sky, I’m going to make my GreatGrandmothers pie, and sprinkle some of the spices you mentioned! Thank you for the extra tips

Tried it at home and it came out soo lovely ,also made my own very pastry followed your recipe and it was awesome on my very first try at apple pie and pastry thank you 😊
The recipe from 4 years ago is better in my opinion. For one key reason. The caramel. The one from 4 years ago was a delicious Apple caramel that was perfect. This one is a pasty apple goop. I commented this on the other video, but just in case anyone here is of the same mind, don't go to the other video and click the link, because you'll get this recipe. This very useful video on how to make apple pie person who would've wondered how to make an apple pie this video is very important. Thanks for making this video.
To be honest I prefer your older one especially since I prefer the cubed apples over the sliced mainly plus the more work you do in the baking the better it is in my opinion, but I followed your cherry pie video I loved it so I’m going to try making an apple pie
I just made this pie today, and I was screaming how it turned so good. It was the first time I ate an apple pie and I was thrilled. Thank you so much for this recipe:>

Its looks amazingly delicious and theres so many people in the world today whom just doesnt know how to cook like this any longer. Seeing as of today people are #living #longer to be much older of the age of 176 years old. I think its the clean water system and the new #vitamin #vapes.
This apple pie recipe looks great, but your first one is the ultimate apple pie recipe in my opinion (the only thing that i’ve changed is that i added some honey on the filling)
Thanks for the recepee and amazing explanations. I have found that he crust ingredients amounts fall way short for a 9 inch pie dish. If I cut the dough in half as instructed the resulting amount is way too small even at the thinnest possible dough disc and it hardly overflows the dish. Lots of frustration ensues. I highly recommend at least 50% more in the dough ingredient suggested ammounts to get to a 14 inch disc and prevent any issues and frustration with the bottom half of the dough nicely overflowing the dish. Either that or use a 7 or 8 inch dish at most.
Im trying this recipe today and it just went in the oven....i hope it turns out as good as yours looks! I had a lot of apples bc I didn't have a scale and I wish you had said about how many apples went into it and the size you used.. but i think it will be ok
I made this today for my in-laws they liked very much, the only thing that I messed up was the pie crust, I know your pie crust recipe has one Tbsp of salt so I made it like that, for us the dough was a bit to salty next time I will put half of Tbsp. Even thought the filling hide the saltiness, still I want to make it sweeter. Thank you for teaching me how to make pies.
@@Kaz-zp4pqother bakers have given the opposite advice.. that if you are using table salt you should use double the amount ( 2 tsp instead of 1). haven't tried it yet so idk 😂

My mom always uses tapioca flour as the thickener, and I always mix my spices in with the sugar beforehand to make it more even. Still, that pie looks amazing!
Thank You so much for Your wonderful recipes!! You are a great inspiration to me. May I ask You, what You think about an cast iron pie-pan? Wouldn't it be as good as metal? ( Used in an normal oven, not outside or grill....) And if I use such an cast iron pie-pan, I surly have to adjust the temperature and time .. Thank You again! 🙏🏻
Hi I love watching your videos recently, I use to bake alot before my health issues, I use to love my apple pies and use to make chocolate and apple pies, as the chocolate would give the extra sweetness to balance the sour of the apples. Have you ever tried it with chocolate?
