You will never cease to amaze me.. Every time I look up a recipe I add 'Preppy Kitchen' and there's always a recipe of yours haha. Your recipes have never gone wrong for me!!
agreed! his channel and website are my first stops when I'm looking for something and he's never led me astray both with finding a recipe and the recipe itself always turns out perfectly!!
Every time John says “amazing” I took a shot whisky. It’s now 11am and I’m drunk . The oven is on, apples aren’t peeled and my puff pastry is dried out. Thanks John. I love your videos. Everything I’ve made from your channel has been amazing.
Hey John, I just want to say that I watch many different baking channels, but yours is bar far the best. Your clear instructions accompanied by your easy-to-follow web page and the printed recipe make you head and shoulders above the rest. If I can't find a recipe for something that I want to make, that you haven't done, it makes me sad. You are the best. Now, I know that you have help with your filming and editing, and he does a great job as well. Also, I love that you keep in your mistakes. We all make them, but it just makes watching you all the more enjoyable. Keep up the good work!
I'm a less filling more pastry kinda girl. I love puff pastry. I will cut it into strips. Then twist them up, bake and sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar. Another great video!!
my grandma used to do something similar with pie crust scraps! we'd call them pinwheels, she would take whatever scraps were leftover, roll it out in one solid piece, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, roll it up like a log, and then cut it into 'cookies'. they're nice and crispy and sweet, perfect little snacks.
Should have commented from the beginning… you, your family, show, cookbooks and mentoring are all superb.. thank you most sincerely, you can teach this old dog new tricks… I received ( still have ) my first cook book Xmas 1947 from my aunt,. a million recipes, cooking books, food clippings later, I still find a better ( often more delicious) way with your cheerful, kind teachings.. I started with you bc you were on UA-cam , and I can talk on the phone with my beloved grandson while we both watch, and show him your better way ( than from me, when he cooked as a young lad ) and a most welcome lesson learned today was the simple fact of using an imported European ( Irish gold ) or I think there is one from Maine ( I’m in New England USA ) … I never realized the difference although I tasted it in the pastry by using the pure butter … I should have put it together bc ( we made our own butter during the war, and never bought store butter), and the puff pastry was sure a lot better then… thank you for that alone ( on top of the hundred other good tis..) I can’t wait to be able to get your new cookbook… ( I need the “EASY” for sure ) ♥️🐦⬛
Thank you for giving us all of the tips that everyone else neglects to mention , like” cool the filling 1st”, construct triangles directly on baking sheet bc they don’t transfer well” 👍🏻
I am watching this video for the first time. I’m so glad your video popped up while searching for apple hand pies using puff pastry. I’m a retiree that moved to Mexico City, and can’t wait until tomorrow to get watching more of your videos.
An apple turnover in France is called a "Chausson aux pommes" (which means apple slipper as in the house shoe). It is made with a sweet apple filling inside a "pâte feuilletée" (puff pastry). As for the story behind it, I don't know it but it sounds correct as France used to suffer often from famines, which is where we got dishes such as "Gigot d'agneau" or "Blanquette de veau"and other big family recipes that can be left in the pot for days and stay good.
I taught a three year old how to make scrambled eggs. He learned to watch the hot pan. He stirred the eggs with a super long handle. I blocked his arms from the pan the whole time. He crushed the egg shells with his hands. I say let them cut the apple with a kid knife (no blade) - a crispy apple is easy to do this with - and let them watch the butter melt and stir the bits. Not for all three year olds, but some, for sure! He also like to help me with coffee. He would do the cutest thing: he'd smell the grounds and throw his head back and go "Mmmm!" So cute! Watch a lot of your content. Amazing food! Thank you!
I did this recipe with puff pastry with all butter from M&S and let me tell you, it came out perfect ! I chose Bramley apples which turned super soft, the end result was delicious ! Preppy kitchen never fails me
So I started my holiday cooking the day before Thanksgiving. With two open faced pies (lemon meringue and pumpkin pies) I had 2 easy pie crusts and of course they got away from me.. but no fail John has a pie crust recipe. Yay me!! I did make too much for the pie pans and I had some random apples from our town thanksgiving box (love a small town 😮) I wonder if John has an apple turn over recipe... And YAY ME again!!!!! Awesome 😎👍😎👍😎👍
I just made these today. First time working with puff pastry. I made the icing with the lemon and vanilla. Wow!!!! Delish! It softens the sweetness of the powdered sugar. Thanks!
I made these today for dessert. They were so flavorful & delicious! I added a 1/4 tsp of allspice to the apple mixture, & a sprinkle of lemon & vanilla extract as well as lemon juice to the glaze. My husband thought I bought them.
You give all the best tips! I'm always hesitant to let my little one help. I stress out about the mess too much but your suggestion sounds great and I think I'll do exactly as you suggested. Thank you! 💕
I love this recipe. They are easy and really good. One suggestion though... Add some walnuts and raisins to the apples while they're heating on the stove, probably a half cup each. It makes the turnovers so much more scrumptious.
John, you have never failed to amaze me and the fine result does look a whole lot better than those made in commercial settings (en masse) or even at your local bakery. Like apple pie, strudel or galettes; no one single variety of apples are best suited for these applications, it's best to use a variety of apples for their differences in texture and flavour (a blend if you will).
Made this recipe today thank you for sharing your recipe with us ,it came out delicious and I know when my old man try’s it he’s going to love it,I’m always baking or cooking up a storm I just enjoy it so much , your awesome love all your videos.
The beauty of these is that they actually have apple all over. When you buy these from supermarket bakeries they have more pastry and air, compared to filling. This is excellent.
Growing up on a farm in Ohio, our menu was extremely seasonal but Apples were a daily treat. My grandmother made turnovers all year and my favorite was Loganberry with cream cheese custard. You should try them... WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL lol..
My boyfriend likes scones and I've been obsessed with apple desserts lately, so with yesterday's video and today's I feel like you're targeting our household. hahaha
OH MY YUMMY GOODNESS! Made these last night & we just ate them for breakfast. Baked mine for 13 min, my oven runs too hot. Otherwise,I followed recipe exactly as you said & they were perfect. Reheated for 20 sec in microwave. ( DO NOT🚫put in toaster oven 😬 The sugar glaze + delicate pastry burned. I ate it anyway cuz I didn’t want to waste it. Was still GR8! 🤣)
I just made these apple turnovers and they turned out great. Everyone loved them but next time I will have to make more than 2 cups of apples. Excellent recipe. TY
Love you, John! It’s such a pleasure to watch your videos. Thanks for all of your amazing recipes!♥️ God bless you and your sweet family. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season.
I like to watch you cook your voice is so soothing. I thought I didn’t have all the ingredients for the icing but I did have it yeah!!!🤗 my apple turnovers came out so delicious thank you for your excellent advice I gave my daughter one after work she loved it. ❤
My go to guy...it’s amazing you stay so thin, since you make so many yummies! Made your pumpkin donuts but I used a muffins tin since I don’t want another pan, lol, and they turned out so moist and delish! I substituted butter for the oil and they were awesome! My husband has a big sweet tooth and he ate two and then one for breakfast the next morning. You’re my “got to” guy! 🙌🏼🤗🎯👌🏽
When I saw the thumbnail for the pumpkin scones I thought they were apple turnovers. So happy to see this recipe. Will try it as soon as I have a dependable oven again.
You're so much fun to just watch, had to let you know, lol. Thank you for sharing your fantastic recipes and "how-to" videos. I canned apple pie filling (14 quarts) and we love it so I made more. In the second batch, instead of slices for traditional pie, I used a dicer to make more of an "apple dessert"- perfect for adding to muffins, in fritters, and other recipes. Not really big on pumpkiny flavors here, but apple? All day long. Two batches, a combined finished amount of 4 gallons. Yeah, I was happy to have it done. Lol. Can't wait to use my canned apples in your recipes!
I baked these, but used your homemade puffed pastry dough recipe and substituted the apples for pears (I'm allergic to apples.). Thank you John, now no one wants me to leave the kitchen because the family wants more. LOL.
Yum!! I'll be honest, I buy pepperidge farm apple turners. I love them!! But, I will have to try these Turnover pastries. I do make my own bake goods from scratch. I love making pies with my own pastry. One of my most delicious pies is my apple pie with fresh apples. I have tried some of your other recipes and they have been great. Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipes!!
Here in Portugal 🇵🇹 we call it “chausson de maçã 🍎 “ but in France they call it “ chausson aux pommes”. Thank U for your wonderful and super delicious recipes!!!’ 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Just made these…am adding them to my dessert playlist! They are absolutely delicious and they look AMZAZING! A bit of fall in every bite🤗🥰. Thank you John❤️
I bought your cook book but I was a little disappointed because I thought alot of your easy dessert recipes would be in your cook book I watch your videos on UA-cam and I love them it's fun to watch and the recipes look really easy and affordable ingredients to buy I can't afford the ingredients in your cook book but I'll always watch your videos and congratulations on your book.
The salt pinch is cracking me up 🤣 I always wonder how he’s so small to but bakes all these amazing things 😋. These look so good! I need a trip a France asap 🥰
Yum! I am making your apple cider donuts today and now will make the turnovers next! Keep the fall recipes coming, it makes me so happy and warm inside! ❤😅

sameeee he is my go to, everything I've ever made has turned out perfecttt
I do the same thing! I’m making his strawberry cake for my daughter’s 5th birthday this week, and I’m sure it’ll be amazing!
@@jules22385 careful not to overmix it, i did and it was so dense :( yummy tho
agreed! his channel and website are my first stops when I'm looking for something and he's never led me astray both with finding a recipe and the recipe itself always turns out perfectly!!
Same here! He is my go to for whenever I'm baking or cooking something!
I am a restaraunt owner and chef. I must say, the puff pastry recipe John gives works well with this. Give it a go, its easy and quick.
Every time John says “amazing” I took a shot whisky. It’s now 11am and I’m drunk . The oven is on, apples aren’t peeled and my puff pastry is dried out.

I don’t know why but I would trust John with my life

That subtle crunch when you bit into it 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Definitely making this

My husband would love these with homemade vanilla ice cream. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
John, you NEVER cease to AMAZE me😍✨
Yum. I always put the moisture around the edges before the filling, it keeps the brush clean for washing over the top
Made this tonight and it was excellent! The icing was so good with lemon and vanilla yum!
I’ve had these before and I have been trying to find it, this looks like the one! Thanks John! ❤
You are so right. In France we call them...chaussons aux pommes.
