Easter 2022! I always make apple pie for holiday desserts. This year I made John’s Apple Crumble Pie for Easter and it was a hit! The concept of cooking the apples first before filling the pie was a genius idea! Each bite had just the right texture. Because the apples were precooked, the pie maintained a nice shape with no ‘sink holes’ AND the bottom of the pie and crust never got watery! I added a half cup of oatmeal to the crumble and my only regret was not adding pecans (these are personal preferences). It was a beautiful pie and I was proud to serve it! Thanks John! Just had my field cleared this summer. Was full of trees like black locust and Japanese knot wood. Such pests here in Maine. To my surprise and delight there were multiple apple trees hiding in there which we kept along with a couple big beautiful fir trees 🌲😁A small orchard of our own we didn’t have to plant!😊 Anyway. The apples are ready and it’s time to make pie and other apple based treats. Excited to try this recipe. ❤Happy baking everyone

John, I love your channel, *BUT* ....... I have found that the majority of your written recipes differ drastically from your videos. For example, with this video, you put the crumble on the pie *before* baking, but in the written recipe you put the crumble on after the pie has been baking for 20 minutes. It actually makes sense to do it the way you present in the video. Again, I *love* this channel, but you do need someone to check your written recipes to ensure they match your videos.
I know what you mean. I swear a couple of months ago, I just watched a video with him showing it just like the recipe. I can find the recipe but the video is gone. Heads up if you make it like the recipe without cooking it came out DELICIOUS! I actually got a few orders for them! 😍
the recipe is completely different but there was a video using that recipe I watched it a few times and I even told my hubby that thankfully he redid the pie using uncooked apples........ They must have taken down that video but they need to put it back up.@@victoriawilliams7210 The written recipe I combine the apples with the filling ingredients set aside get the pie crust out of the freezer add the apples to the pie shell pop it in the oven for 20 mins at 400 while it's in the oven I make the crumb topping lately I've been popping that in fridge so it gets more crumbly. When the 20mins is up I take it out of the oven (watch out it'll be hot) Add the crumb to the top lower the heat to 350* and bake (for me) exactly ONE hour. Then I let it cool. People have been going CRAZY for this pie!

Made this today and I must tell you. The crust was INCREDIBLE!! Oh my god it was so buttery and frickin flakey! Although I had some issue with the pie dough because it kept cracking.. but on the second attempt it was perfect and smooth! OH and the crumble was SO lovely I kept snacking the dough before it went into the oven. I loved every part of this dessert! Thank you John!! ❤

Checked this recipe for temperature and filling then did it my way. Try Jazz apples they cook up sweet and delicious flavor not overwhelming.
