Old Grease Gun Restoration | Mister Patina
In this Video i restored an old Grease Gun for my lathe! I disassembled the grease gun and restored every part. The main body got a cold bluing finish and the tip was brass coated. After reassembling this grease gun it works perfectly again!
The brass wheel and flame torch was a neat little trick. Loved that! Never seen that done before.
Hey Luke, iam glad you enjoyed! :-)
You can also heat up the part and hit it up with a brass wheel for the same effect!
That’s right!
@@misterpatina german engineering always get me....
That was really new, never seen that, only knew "flammspritzen" with aluminum
Very very interesting. The brass coating was completely new to me. Thanks for teaching me yet another time
Mostly welcome Bro! :-)
That's what I call a great start to the day with a video of you! Again, of course, a great result and the way you proceeded is great!
Hey Bro, thanks a lot! Iam glad you enjoyed! :-)
Learned a new trick, brass coating with fire ,i think i'm going to use it on my restorations. Thank you mate, and obviously another wonderful restoration! Greets from Veneto, Italy.
Hey Sebastiano, iam glad you enjoyed and learned something 🙂
Best greets from Frankfurt, Germany!
Excellent restoration job!
BTW that's not a grease nipple on the tailstock, it's for applying way oil.
Who thinks these videos are so satisfying 😍😍
Thanks! :-)
I believe that’s actually where you oil the lathe . But if you want to grease it, who am I to judge. Like your videos though.
yea, I think you might be right. the grease would only clog up the oil channels. but then again, I don't know this specific lathe. maybe it uses grease instead.
Another beauty restauration of a precious tool.
Thanks!
lol I giggled when the sandblaster whistled at 3:57. It's really childish but that made me smile.
Haha, iam glad you enjoyed!
Always impressed with your metallurgy skills.....Nice.👍
Great video! Pretty cool trick with the brass plating. I have never seen that done before. I’m looking forward to your next project, sir. Until then, be safe.
Hey B! Yeah you never stop learning :-)
Thank you so much! You too!
Beautiful restoration, you did a very good job.
Thanks a lot Tyby! :-)
Ah, so you also make new ones?, I see you are a man of culture as well...
My father had a grease gun almost like yours, except that it was brass, the knurling was finer, and the tube had a slight angle. It was the first tool he taught me to use. It was used on the spring cap type of grease point (in the late 1940s). A very enjoyable project.
Dude I literally cried at the „sup“ 😂😂
Thanks for posting. Mine just ran out
That's what I call a great start to the day with a video
Haha, thanks Artemus! Iam glad you enjoyed!
Another restoration made usable. A mate for the one from Dr Beer 🍺 👍
Restauration Tips!
Mister Patina, TYSY Tube and My Mechanics, 👍🏻 enough said
Mensch da war ganz viel “Schnodder” drin🤔😉🤣🤣
Haha, thanks a lot!
@@misterpatina oops! Habe 2 mal gepostet 😉😂🤣
What's real cool about this is that it's actually a useful tool for you. Bravo
Lovely restoration thank you for uploading it. All you need now is some old grease and you'll be away!
Like everyone else, I thought the brass coating was a really neat trick. I personally would have repainted the body with blue Hammerite paint like the original paintwork to take it up a notch in aesthetics. Great job again.
Aweso refurbishment and upgrade plus the "brassing" technique was surprisingly new to me. 👍👍👍👍
Great greasy restoration.
Thanks Verna! 🙂
Awesome job love the part with brass wire wheel!!
Hey Todd, thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed 🙂
Well, I suppose I'm amazed at the brass coating "as by fire" like your other viewers have indicated! Great restoration as always. The new tip was good as well. Great work with the lathe Mr P. Thank you.
Hey Roger, thats a sweet little trick! its totally easy, you should give it a try!
@@misterpatina yes sir, I plan on it sometime! Thank you
"Knees weak grease spaghetti"! 😂😂😂
Nice and late to the party (as I’m well known for) but very nice job! I’m digging the new tip you made - that lathe is a life saver. Your grease gun collection is growing fast it seems haha
Thank you 🌷✌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
MMMmmm! Tasty video! My eyes thank you :)
Haha, you’re welcome Bro!
That brass brush trick is a technique that blacksmiths use to give their forgings a nice brass coating.
Hello very good restoration well done
Thanks Vince! :-)
I'm shocked that there was no rust :). Plus, your lathe got taken care of!
Some old things can be hot again with some modern time modifications,
Pump it up bro!!!
True story! Thanks for watching! 🙂
Nice👍🏻
Thanks Bro, really appreciate!
Spasibo Bolshoye! :-)
Another quality video, man! Excellent work! Keep it up! 🤘
Hey Andy, thanks a lot man! :-)
Perfect restoration for a perfect tool. Nicely done!
Hey Gayle, thanks a lot!
Looks very good and doing nice job 🌹🙏🏻
Thanks a lot Radha!
Nice work, the brass plating turned out great👌
Thanks a lot Bro!
I'm agree with u big holes are big problems 😂
...good one, nice job, stay safe,,
Thanks Bob, you too! :-)
Dude that was great !
Thanks Justin!
Nice work, i too loved the bit with the brass brush, will try this, thankyou.
Youre welcome Tony! :-)
10:48 very nice
Thanks a lot! :-)
Sweet 👍🏻 👍🏻
Que hermosa restauración.
Kickass bro
Haha, thanks Tim!
Nice job, even the bluing is nice as a color, well done again !
Thanks a lot Bro!
Perfect job!
Thanks Gustavo!
Amazing, as always! The brass coating was really neat.
Fantastic job it looks and works great thanks for sharing 🍺🍺👍👍😷
Thanks Brian! 🙂👍
That's quite a find. Amazing restoration too.
Thanks! 🙂
Good job 👍👏
Thanks Mat!
I would love to se e you make an entirely new grease gun like this on the lathe from scratch!
Haha, I thought about that Shane! 😄
daher kam meine frage.
trotzdessen ... cooles video.
Cool!
Thanks David!
Heating the wheel instead of the part seems a bit more safe than handling hot parts . I thought the flame would go out from the rotation
Tausend Dank!
*Knees weak, grease spaghetti... mr patina made a messy* 😂 Wonderful job sir!
😄😄😄
Thanks Bro! 🙂
Perfect
Thanks Annette! 🙂
Nice ....
Thanks Ummah!
@@misterpatina You're welcome mister
Bună, frumoasă și de calitate treaba!!!!!!

Nice touch, Bruder!
Keep it up!
Haha, thanks a lot Brat, i definitely will!
Felicitaciones! Saludos desde Baja California, Mexico
Great work my friend!👍🏻🎬
Thanks Bro!
Isn't sandblasting the greatest? I go back and forth between which is more satisfying; power washing or sandblasting?
10:00 Mmmm, forbidden apple sauce...
Very cool indeed... Hmmm, will the colour on the metal casing chip off over time? Not familiar with the lindseed oil & bluing agent combimed...
Great vid.
Fan, Sydney Australia.
Hey B! Its basically not a color, its cold bluing. Its a chemical reaction which creates a layer of black corrosion, which makes the stell rustfree. So it wont chip off ;-)
Hope i could explain it understandable.
Thanks a lot! Greets from Frankfurt, Germany!
@@misterpatina thanks mate. 😉
That’s definitely right and really important! Thanks for the addition, Matthias 🙂
@@matthiasweigel311 Danke..

Nice job Bro! 👏👏👏
Thanks a lot man! ❤️
Muy interesante !!
Wow! This is what I needed! This, as always, is absolutely amazing... Let me guess... You got it from Ebay? :-D
You did a great job making the tip too! Coming from a machinist, You did a great job!
(Edit) One thing, You dont put grease in lathe's tailstocks, you put Way Oil (Iso65) because it is sticky... Otherwise... You are absolutely wonderful at restoration! Also, where did you get your lathe from and what company is it... If you can find a manual, ready it as it should (Hopefully) say what oils and greases to use :D
(Sorry, another edit, I have lots of questions) What oftware do you use to edit your videos? They look jaw droppingly good! Also, I didnt know that you could brass coat things... I am definitely going to use that! One last thing... Your lathe tool is sticking out a lot! But somehow your talent makes it better!
Could you mount a silicone or rubber o-ring on the end of the tip for a better seal?
Oh, i really did afterwards, altough it wasnt really leaking a lot! :-)
Epic video
Thanks! 🙂
I recently filled one of these with oil. My Lathe got grease nipples on all sorts of places and I’m kind of sure these aren’t meant for grease.
Before starting with disassembly you need to level the work surface. :-)
Would've loved to see it painted to match the lathe
The restoration is better with slow moves from the restorator?
1:43 nutella chocolate flavoured 😋
Haha 😄😄
Very nice work dude!
Wow! how does that brass coating work? why does it stick?
Because of the heat
It's like brazing
@@koen_bakker is it bonding or reacting with the underlying metal though? why does it not just fall or rub off?

Lovely as always! One really nice thing about this restoration is that you can repurpose all that old grease - You now have (approximately) a years supply of top notch hair styling cream!
Why does industrial grease always look so yummy?
...but tastes so bad? 😄
Very nice. I'm glad you didn't paint it.
Thanks Dave!
That was pure filth! I'm very surprised that UA-cam's 'norty' algorithms didn't block it 🧡
Haha! No problems with the algorithm yet :-)
Thanks for watching Deena!
Never seen this type of grease gun before. Makes me wonder if it was a specialty tool for a specific set of grease nipples that you couldn't use a side pump on. Either way you did a really nice job on this, thanks for sharing this video with us and remember Texas is watching.
Turned a grease gun into a grease sniper rifle... 👍
Haha, thanks David!
