I bought this old Iron and wanted to give it a nice Restoration. I started with disassembling the old iron. After that I restored mostly every part and gave the the metal parts a nickel plating. I renewed the heating coil and repainted the wood parts.
After reassembling the iron worked perfectly fine! - Розваги
i really love how mr patina restores items. i like that they still have dents and imperfections that i think enhances our appreciation of the workmanship of the item (and the restorer).
Hey, thank you so much for your kind words! 🙂
Yes, I think it is right too to keep a balance between restoring some damage that would otherwise further deteriorate the item or which was caused by oxydation or something like that and wanting to fix every single notch that would have been inherent to the producing of such items at the times they were produced. Respecting their souls, so to speak, by protecting and caring but not by robbing them of their identities.
This could have been a good collab, you restore, MyM irons, TYSY folds, something gets burnt MyM makes a new one🤣🤣👍🏻🙈
Give it to me straight: Do you have a new camera?. The Pictures of your great work are outstandingly captured. You never cease to improve. Well done!
Haha, yep it’s a new cam! Thanks man, Hope to have a beer the next time with you 🙂
Ah yes, another brilliant video by Mister Patina.
Thanks Mario!
Well, you have implemented the suggestion regarding subtitles, they are now readable clearly, nice video btw, greetings from India🇮🇳
Thanks for your comment! Yeah like i said, ill do it. Iam glad you like it :-)
Came here from “My Mechanics”, great channel. Gonna have to watch every restoration now🤷🏻♂️))
Hey, iam glad you enjoyed! Welcome to the channel 🙂✌️
I remember my mother's iron; very similar design in the early 1960's. That one's probably good for another thirty years.
What a wonderful day, my friends!
Mr P, you are so generous, kind and talented! God bless you!
Hey man, thank you so much! 🙂✌️
My absolute biggest pet peeve with any restoration video is when they work on 95% of a restore then leave one area with rust or dirt because it's difficult to correct or already "good enough". So you taking the time to dig out and replace the heating coil makes me immensely happy.
That part made me cringe as all I could wonder was how much asbestos might have been in that old compound he scraped out.
Only a monster wouldn't iron their microfiber towels. lol
My grandmother had one of these. She didn't have an ironing board but used an old table with a blanket on top lol
Restoration of a fine old classic like this is a treat to watch. Texas watches.
Thanks for being a loyal fan Paul! 🙂
Seriously, blown away by this. Gonna watch it again.
Hey, iam glad you enjoy! 🙂
Excellent job! Even plug remains authentical, great!
Thanks! 🙂
You are the guru of the resurrection !!! Beatiful Jobs.
Is it strange that my cats love watching restorations with me? Either way, wonderful job! 👍👍👍
Oh nothings strange here, cats are the internet.
Thanks 🙂✌️
very good restoration. I like the idea the this craftsman doesn‘t restore things as good as possible (then he‘d swap more parts), but as close to the original as possible (meaning to live with minor imperfections).
Hey man, Iam glad you’re enjoying my work 🙂
Rowenta is still in the business of making irons. Pretty cool to see an old design!
My wife asking ... what kinda tool is that you watching 😳🤣👩🔧

Hurrah, it's Sunday and a new upload! Thank you for it. Great job again. Much worthier of your hard work than my brand new frying pan which my father had burned to a crisp as he opted for reheating his lunch himself for once and did not use the microwave but my new pan for some reason. And of course, he completely forgot about it until the house was full of smoke. I've had to spend 45 minutes sanding it today, after nothing else would work. I'd rather have restored an antique piece instead! Ah well, I'll leave that till next week-end then.
🤭😧 - a fire hazard, your father left the hob - did he fall asleep, or went into the garden to talk to his dearest, and I assume the smoke alarm sounded, warning you and him to what would have eventually turned into a fire.
@@samuelfellows6923 My father was always a hazard by cooking, but never to that point , it was more culinary-wise, until my mother passed away. Now he becomes completely forgetful at times, moving into his own world and not even hearing the fire alarm I had installed nor smelling the fumes and the burned food. He simply put the pan on and went back to his bedroom to "talk to my mother" and forgot all about the pan as he realized she couldn't be in the bedroom either. As I was out, I did not notice it until I came back and luckily enough the added security system on the cooking element had worked as a switch off as soon as the food in flame had hit the cooking plates. He never cooks these days, after he had the smoke alarm going off in the middle of the night once and realized that had I not been a light sleeper he could have killed me too, but he had obviously forgotten that yesterday. I hope he won't do it again, for with the confinement, I can't even get another security switch to replace it. It worked but got damaged by the flames.
Estupenda restauracion de esta plancha de hierro eléctrico 'Rowenta' alemán de los años 50, mis respetos y saludos desde Venezuela.💯💯👍👍👍🤘🤘🙏
Hola Amilcar, Muchas Gracias amigo! Saludos desde Alemannia! 🙂✌️🇩🇪
@@misterpatina 💯👍
Nice attention to detail! You put a LOT of work into that little old iron. And, it would have been super easy to ruin that project by cracking or breaking the porcelain during disassembly or reassembly. Amazing job, sir!
Hey B, thanks for appreciating my work! And thanks for being such a loyal fan! 🙂
This makes my vintage day! Soon Ill be doing restos too.
Hey man, iam glad you enjoyed! I can highly recommend doing this 🙂
@@misterpatina Ive done a few razor restoration videos on my channel so far.
Nicely done! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching! 🙂✌️
Beautiful job as always. I wish you would've kept the wood handle natural.
now I know how a iron works.
Thank you
Another great video! I swear I could watch these every day.
Hey Mark, thanks a lot! Feel free to do that :-)
@@misterpatina I've watched them all. Please upload more often!
So nice to see an appliance, dating back to my childhood, being restored to appear nearly new. Well done.
😯 OMG I thought Rowenta was a newer company!! Wow Fascinating, thank you for sharing this video.
Oh they made a lot of kitchen/household stuff. Iam glad you enjoy my work!
Wieder etwas Dazugelerntes. Super!
Danke Helmut! 🙂
Absolutely a fantastic restoration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Jerry!
Nice job but I would have put some kind of clear coat on top of the black handle.
Muy buena restauración de tipo de plancha que usaba mi mamá cuando era niño. Gracias.
Straight to faves! Really enjoyed this restoration.
Hey Ümit, iam glad you enjoyed! 🙂
Splendid job, particularly enjoyed the cementing in of the new wire and the sanding of the nameplate 😊
I liked this too. Did you use any spacer or shim to prevent the heating coil pushing through the cement thereby causing a potential short? Or was the aggregate in the cement enough to prevent that from happening? All electrical work I do I'm all about insulation and grounding. I love your work BTW, just want to learn your process. Thanks
Отличная работа! Мотивирует что-то делать!
Spasibo Brat!
My mother still have this one, and it's working! She is still using it !! 😂
Haha, yeah back in the days there was still quality! :-)
классический такой утюг для мафиозных разборок 😁👍
Thanks for bringing this back to its former glory. Rowenta still makes lovely irons, but the are priced above my pay grade. They can't hold a candle to your restored beauty.
Hey Patricia, thanks for your comment! 🙂
Hello mister Patina beautiful restoration good job well done
Thanks Vince!
Should have splashed a little water on it so we could see the sizzle.
That’s a great idea, since my infrared thermometer broke I didn’t know how to show the heat 😞
I’ll keep your words in mind and do it on the next heat project 🙂
I'm glad you redid the electrical. This is just me and I don't speak for anyone else, but safety trumps the restoration. If you plan to continue using something old, you need to make it as safe as you possibly can.
Hey KK, thanks a lot! Iam glad you enjoyed! For me it was more important to do the function than the optic of the inner parts. And yep, with the new parts the safety increased! 🙂
@@misterpatina I love this repair, and I can say that with the new camera it looks wonderful. I cannot give it a 10 out of 10 however because of the lack of an electrical grounding test. as K K says "safety trumps the restoration".
Respekt, an den Heizdraht hätte ich mich nie und nimmer getraut!
Gruß Tino
Respect, I would never have dared to change the heating wire!
Greetings Tino
Glücklicherweise ist alles gut gegangen, war recht viel (Recherche-) arbeit.
Love seeing old things restored !
Your subtitles are very informative.... I appreciate that... Keep it up... Salut🙏

Hey bro, once again a great video! High quality and of course impeccable craftsmanship. The nickel plating has been done great with a flawless result.
Hey man, thank you so much! I really appreciate your words!
Отличный результат супер!👍

Excellent work👍👍👍 . Thanks for sharing
Thanks, you’re welcome! 🙂👍
Wow! Considering you had almost nothing to begin with, this one shows just how good you are with anything! The plating, the handle and your knowledge of the electrical workings highlight your expertise in many fields. I've been meaning to congratulate you on the camera work as well. The close-ups are wonderful. Love your sense of humor! I do appreciate your work Mr P!!
Iam glad you like it!
Einfach, schön und zuverlässig. Für immer und ewig. Nicht, dass die Geräte es jetzt tun - eines Tages.
Ich wollte meine Hose bügeln gehen.
Hey man, thanks a lot!
@@misterpatina Gesundheit! Mach weiter so!
Nice restoration! I think it's reasonable to check isolation between heating wire and iron's metal parts, which I'm sure you did!
Of course, the voltmeter didnt say "beep" :D
Amazing as always my friend! 🙂
Thanks man, u recognized the new setup? 😄
@@misterpatina I did! Turned my screen brightness up on my phone to admire it! 👍🙂

The bouncy test haha love it
Haha, no restoration is completed without this test! :-)
Nicely done. It's pretty and even though I'm from the US, my grandma had one quite similar.
Thanks Vickie! 🙂
Your videos are odly satisfying i must admit. 🙂👌🏻 Greetings.
Hey man, iam glad you like my work!
Love the restoration you leave the history in the item but the out come is stunning
Хорошая работа👍
Spasibo!
Great restoration bro. I think the hard work was worth it. Yep no matter what you do you can make everyone happy. Everyone has an opinion. I just enjoyed seeing you working on it!! 😁🤟👍
Hey man, thank you so much! I really appreciate!
Fantastic job! I can tell you put a huge amount of off camera time getting this iron back to being as new as possible. My only disappointment is that you didn't reuse that sketchy looking old cable that was about to fall apart hahaha. Keep up the fantastic work - it looks like 50K is on the horizon!
Hey man, late to the party but thanks! Yeah, it was a pretty hard mix. The project was pretty time consuming and on the other side I had to learn a lot with my new equipment. Ill use the old wire on my next projects! :-)
@@misterpatina No worries, lots of comments to sift through these days! I'll be watching closely for that pristine reusable wire in a future video hahaha
a fantastic result ✌️😎👍
Thanks! 🙂
Great video! It's interesting to watch the work! The end result is fantastic!

Very nice job looks like it's ready for round two 👍
Thanks!

Thanks Retro! 🙂
That's dope bro, well done
Thanks Tim! 🙂
I will really enjoy your restoration work style I like it 🌹🙏🏻
Radha, thank you so much my friend! 🙂👍
Excellent video! My only quibble is that this kind of non-steam iron would have been used with an ironing cloth - that is, another piece of almost wet thin linen cloth (old tea towels are ideal) would have been laid over the top of the cloth/garment to be ironed. The heat from the iron would then have generated a thin layer of steam which would have done the hard work of smoothing the fabric. This is only way to ensure that the base of the iron would remain unstained by soap/starch residue from the cloth being ironed. If one doesn't use an ironing cloth with these old non-teflon based irons, a layer of burned soap/starch quickly builds up which has to be scrubbed off with steel wool and can ruin the iron's base. Going by the pre-restoration pictures, something of this kind has clearly happened which has made the iron useless and thus it was discarded.
Bravo, another excellent restoration.
Thanks David!
I find crazy that nowadays irons are full of plastic parts...their lifetime goes to zero 😅
I bought my mainly plastic steam iron 20 years ago.
Works as if new.
I agree some things plastic last for a while today but also sometimes you can't work on them, replace anything on them and they just don't look good like they did in the past when they were made with style.
@@Rufio1975 it's the same with my vacuum. Barely a bit of metal on the thing and it's working like new. 20+ years old.
I get the point, but Irons barely have any moving parts and the plastic won't corrode on you like it did on that iron. If it was something that massive forces were exerted on, sure. But Irons? Who the hell buys new irons? One maybe two should do for a lifetime.
well that's the goal, you need to buy new ones more often =) Companies love that for sure, nature not so much...
@@nikolajwinther5955
True. I agree with you there again. I guess some people just like the nostalgia of it regardless if it requires a little extra work. For example, I ride motorcycles. Some people would say why the heck do you have that thing with inferior suspension and brakes and still using a carburetor? Why not this 2020? I like the nostalgia of it and Im ok with having to work on the bike. In fact, I like it, but I also see your point of view.
Beautiful work once again, so glad you included the final part of trying it out working! Only surprised at the fact you used cement, never seen before in a restoration video.
Thanks man!
endlich neues video! ich freue mich immer unglaublich sehr

I love your restoration your simple but yet beneficial explanations and of course your photography, great restoration
Thanks for your kind words Rami! Iam glad you enjoyed!
I have one similar to this. Still in use..... for waxing skiis. No steam makes it perfect. Took a bit to get the heat right.
Nice work!

I discovered Rowenta irons about 25 years ago, and I will never own any other iron again - they are amazing!
Yup theyre really nice!

Muy buen trabajo. Increíble. (Me hubiera gustado mas si al mango de madera lo barnizaba)-
Gracias!
Nice job! Particularly with the cement and coil. I wondered how you would replace it or leave it.
I’ve gotta be honest, I thought many times about leaving or replacing, but I think the restoration wouldn’t have been complete if I left it. On the other hand I think it’s pretty interesting for you to see how it works 🙂
Well done!Grüße aus Wuppertal!
Danke danke, Grüße aus Frankfurt Main!

Wonderful restoration again. Yes of course you can use my metre high pile of laundry to fully test the iron. No, no need to thank me, yes I'm too kind I know. 😉
Haha, had to laugh about this one! Thank Jane! 🙂
Looks wonderful and great job restoring it!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thanks oneshot! 🙂👍
@@misterpatina You're welcome and looking forward to what you restore next!!
Great restoration
Thanks Larry!
Nice job on the shiny metal but bad job on the heating wire. My recommendation would be to get the old wire pretty hot and while it's hot check the resistance against the metal. If it is still high impedance, leave it alone. Never fix something that isn't broken! Your new wire spring has a much bigger outer diameter and almost touches the outer metal. Sure, the metal is quite oxidized and you still have a thin layer of cement but that looks to me far too thin. You need at least say 1mm clearance at all sides of the wire, the more the better. Also I'm not quite sure if you cement will a) conduct heat appropriately and b) stay stable and without cracks through lots of heating cycles. The original compound was especially made for this, much like the sand in a slow-blow fuse with some not-too-brittle binding agent. I guess the iron is mainly for decorative purposes now but if you use it, I'm glad you have a wodden handle in case the earth connection fails :). If the earth connection does not fail, expect a tripping RCD after some use. Let the iron get really hot and check the heating wire against the metal body with a multimeter for resistance, you will be shocked.
Hermosa quedó !!!
Me alegra que te guste :-)
This was very interesting. Thank you.
Thank you for watching ;-)
Wow i love this video
OH MAYYY GOODNESS!! You have reached your peak, you did everything... you used every single technique, you used new ones you have not used before, you worked on n electrical appliance, and most if all, you did a great job!! You have set the bar higher even for my mechanics! Continue the great work in making us happy and fixing old tools and stay safe! This one has been jaw- droppingly good!
