    This is what's known as "burst training" and is a proven method used by athletes, as well, for muscle conditioning. So, this makes a TON of sense.

    Hi Marthyn - Your double bass course is amazing and after being stuck at a plateau for YEARS, I can now play at a level that I thought was always going to be just out of reach.
    My biggest struggles were almost all related to how I sit at the kit and how the kit is set up to facilitate proper ergonomics. I think that topic alone deserves a dedicated video that covers: how to set up pedals and seat correctly, seat height, how to balance on the drum stool (i had been sitting way too far back), distance/angle between the legs, angle of the pedals relative to the body, orientation of the thighs when contracting them for ankle motion, etc... Seeing your process for setting up your pedals/seat on an empty carpet would undoubtedly be informative!
    Thanks again Marthyn!

    So I've been doing this exercise with my hands because I wanted to get better with blast beats and it's been really helpful. I start at 140bpm and I go up by 5-10bpm after playing for 5 minutes straight. I always play for 5 minutes per tempo! I can push it all the way up to 170-180bpm! 💪

    Before my max bpm is 145 and now i can go 225 but the problem is lack of endurance. The only thing i can cope up is using swivel technique (because most of the time I'm more into ankle motion) and it's still not enough so whenever I'm struggling i will go back to this channel and watch every lessons and warm up excercise. Thank you for your tips sir Marthyn it really helps me alot 😁👏💪

    This may not be relevant to learning higher tempos but how I learned good foot control was to take the springs off of my pedals and solely rely on the rebound from my bass drum to keep the same pressure on both feet without burying the beater it helped gain better heel toe as well as foot placement to keep me relaxed and consistent and not rely so much on my hip flexors and more on my calf muscles and ankles

    I need one tip from you. I can play slow to 145 bpm and 165-240 bpm easily, but I struggle playing at 145-165.
    Also, I can't shift from 8 or 12 notes to 16 notes without stoping. It's like my legs are stuck or the beater stopped moving. It's killing me for months now.

    • @drumlion2005
      @drumlion2005 3 роки тому +3

      This is a good question. My right foot's toes stay relax but my left foot i can feel my toes attempting to get involved. My guess is because you get used to controlling your right foot because driving a car you learn to do minor adjustments with the gas pedal while being relaxed.

    Could you give a tip to teach my left leg the ankle motion?

    • @craigt1010
      @craigt1010 3 роки тому +3

      I would recommend something like this: keep your right foot planted for stability, play a basic beat with your hands, and play short groups of 2, 3 and 4 notes on your left foot. Use a metronome and focus on your technique.
      Practice with just your left foot alone until the technique feels more comfortable. You can also alternate between playing groups with either foot, to work on balance and stability.
      Once that feels good, then move to practicing alternating strokes between your feet in groups of 4,6,8 etc.
      Remember to choose a tempo that allows you to use the ankle technique comfortably (not too slow or too fast).
      If you continue to have problem with balance, that will come with time. I often work on one foot at a time as a warm up. This allows me to focus on my technique, and also exercise creativity and individuality of my limbs. That will in turn give you more freedom to play what you want, and be more comfortable behind the kit. You’re only as strong as your weakest link.
      Good luck, cheers!

      @@Marrero1 Im not Marthyn but I did have this issue. My recommendation is to play with your hands lower to the practice pad and allow the rebound to do the work. When you let that happen you have to hold the stick with less pressure which is what you should be doing anyway also try to use your fingers more than your wrist especially at high tempos. Hope this helps!

    • @992ras
      @992ras 3 роки тому

      @@Marrero1 your grip is to tight, you grip should be loosened up just a little bit. Also once you loosen it you should feel back of the stick hit the rest of your fingers after you strike the drum. This also will allow you to learn finger techniques once your advanced enough. Also you need to find Fulcrum of the stick, take your first finger with out your thumb and strike your drum, if your at the fulcrum the stick should bounce back up without leaving the finger. Once you the find fulcrum you can mix using wrist and fingers for striking.
