I've got a 95 YJ with a VW 1.9 TDI 2006 lifted with 35 and 488 gears, get about 30 mpg around town I've had it for almost 10 years and absolutely love it
@@wes11bravo most of it was from Cody built the kit, I think the only thing I fabbed was the engine mount it was one of the first kits they ever made probably 15 years ago
I guess it depends on where you’re planning on taking ur Jeep. I live in Ky and my TJ works perfect since my terrain is very wooded and narrow so the short wheelbase and torque of the 4.0 works exceptionally well. But very neat idea.
Everything I've been wanting to do to my TJ! Almost like someone opened my browser and the "Jeep Build" folder. Odd when mentioning Cummins builds they didnt show Ian's own badass Willys!
Why would they ditch DED? Lots of guys like simple bolt on stuff but I think it's a smaller or younger fan community. Maybe I am wrong but if so I am fine with it😄
It’s funny to me how he was talking about the reliability of the 5.0 titan. My dad bought one and it had a rod knock after 15k. Maybe because it was a really early model but who knows
i can and so can my siblings the 2006 4.0+auto nope 👎no thanks ( he loves the rest of the unlimited/loaded dad RPO'd back in 2005~, also the factory bo-bo'd and it's painted the wrong colour outside lolz 😂and man is 3-black hot, thanks to it i learned no to buy/paint my 1969 charger that way aka F8 or B5 or red-outside and white or red interior instead ect ), maybe the manual and or pre-1975 is better?
Respectfully, I would like these guys to continue but Dirt Every Day is a big loss to us. There could have been less of the whacky builds and more project based (multi-episode) builds but, those guys were some of the best MTrend characters.
So far this show has been good , but what I would like to know is why am I still paying for Motortrend ? This show is being showed on You tube before it’s posted to Motortrend I might as well delete my subscription , if I can watch it here for free
So…Fred and Dave are gone and this is was replaced them?….dumb move, this won’t be a replacement for dirt every day…looks like an advertising video for prefab parts…🤔…well motor trend had a good run I’m going to wacth Dave on dirt head shed
😱Bite your tongue 😂 don't get me wrong I've had many ol' 80s yotas with the 22r & 22re and really enjoyed them but I sure do like my ol' TJs & XJs with the 4.0L...anyone can keep them going if they stay on top of the fluids & maintenance 🤠👍 But I do agree that the last real jeep was a TJ 🤣👍

I’d love hear anything you care to share about this, really would like to diesel swap my TJ.
EC - Did you get a kit for this swap or did you fab it yourself? Combination of the two?
@@wes11bravo most of it was from Cody built the kit, I think the only thing I fabbed was the engine mount it was one of the first kits they ever made probably 15 years ago
I have an R2.8L & AX-15 in my 1989 YJ, love it!!!
Did you do the swap yourself? Would love to run an R2.8 in my 01 TJ.
Very cool project. I think the Cummins is perfect for a TJ.

Yes Ian. The right thing to do to make any vehicle better is to cut it in half. Good call.
Insane respectful and entry scale build ❤
Yet another episode on UA-cam that isn't on my motortrend app!
Bring back Fred and Dave! Steve even has the Fred hairstyle going!
All respect to Christian, but if this replaced DED they fumbled the bag. I want to see wacky 4x4 builds, not generic bolt on part guides.
Absolutely. There’s a billion of the same copy paste car shows out there but DED was something special
They just built and engineered a chassis, quit ya bitch'n
DED can never be replaced
Why would they ditch DED? Lots of guys like simple bolt on stuff but I think it's a smaller or younger fan community. Maybe I am wrong but if so I am fine with it😄
Cancelled my MT subscription and just watch Dirthead Dave and 4XFred on UA-cam. 🤷♂️
Dudes hair is as iconic as Flava Flaves ⏰️
Something about the guys who have a beard and no moustache that I don’t trust.
That would be awesome!
First 👍's up thank you for sharing
I wish you guys would do my TJ. Would be a fun challenge because is a RHD.
Cartman and butters all grown up

No replacement for dirt every day
Cummins 4bt!
4bt's awesome, long as you don't mind the excessive weight and noise.
Not finding any videos for this build after this one...like on steering! What am I missing?
The real question is when will the r2.8 be back instock in Canada 🇨🇦 I’ve been waiting
Nice nova! Looks like a stiff ride though. What part of the build caused this? Lower stiffer springs?
I can't justify leaving the 4.0 out of my tj, but it'd be a fun project if I found a blown 2.5 or even a cj..

Lets see the 5.0L cummins in a JT GLADIATOR
Where is this in the MotorTrend+ app? I don't see it in 4x4 garage or FourWheeler. What is it under?
Wait, Ian is braging about owning a Titan with a 5.0l Cummins that they refuse to support? That thing makes my EcoDiesel look like a solid engine.
Yeah I have 200k on my Titan and no problem getting support from local NissN Dealer
@@BigTireGarage does yours have any delets? EGR?
I looked on the motor trend app and didn’t find it. Is it 4X4 garage or something else? Or only available in the US?
LJ kit by genright ?
"a million miles" includes at least one bottom end, and probably a head gasket or two. Not just an oil change every so often. Just to be clear.
Did this take over dirt everyday?
Nice UA-cam video
I'd like to see a lifetime build a jeep that will last a lifetime...

My R2.8 blew up in 14k and I was told to go pound sand
Steve has long hair!
Right! He was so clean cut back in the tube sock days!
Seriously? You junked DED for this? 🙄
I spy with my little eye... an aircooled VW motor.
3.9L 4BT P-Pumped…..🐱

This is not an adequate replacement for DED.

I liked Fred and Dave better.
The last real Jeep... everything since has been absolute GARBAGE. You'd still be better off building a Toyota though.
