That's the best cover hands down but Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt' is a close second. It is so good Trent Reznor the original singer/song writer admitted it was better. Well worth checking out if you get time. And I've watched literally hundreds of people reacting to Ren and you are my absolutely my favorite. What a gift you are. ♥
Trent said it's not his song any more after Cash's version. Trent said it's now Cash's song! I thought that was fabulous, as is the cover. Considering what it was wrote about and then the way the Johnny Cash version is done, giving it a whole new meaning.
Absolutely NO AUTO TUNE!!! Poor guy was really sick at time. If you listen for it, you can hear some congestion during the performance, but he STILL killed it. Amazing guy and singer ❤
@@ReactADHD This is correct. Unbeknownst to him, as you said, they added a little auto-tune which he wasn't happy about. Done by the Conan sound team, not his guys. The amt. used was so little though, thankfully.
I saw them live 2 years ago and when David started singing this, the audience were crying and singing along. Of course I wept too. He sang it Metal mode lol. Beautiful show. Great reaction ❤❤
David was terribly sick that night, thus the reason he is sitting. He told them NO autotune but they put it in anyway, worried he may not be able to hit or hold the notes because of how ill he was. He was FURIOUS when he realized what they had done.
I'm not really a fan of Disturbed, but this is one of the best covers i've ever heard and have watched and listened to both versions hundreds of times at this point. Your react when he goes off toward the end was so great, subscribed to your channel today. Keep the vids coming, i'll keep watching.
Thank you so much for subscribing! I'm thrilled to hear that my reaction resonated with you. Your support means a lot, and I can’t wait to share more videos with you!
He damaged his vocal cords shortly before the live performance and he had to adjust the way he sand so as to prevent further damage. The "glitch" is actually his voice cracking.
I first heard this driving a lorry through the centre of Bath and it effected me that much I nearly rear ended a bus! Had to pull over and take a breath and listened to it in repeat the rest of my shift
Thank You for an amazing reaction! Disturbed's version and the imagery on the video brings the song home. It is a powerful experience to watch and listen to it; as well as interpret it to modern times. It's really frigging awesome!
I loved the live version, BUT I feel the graphically produced one is vital to intensify the meaning of the lyrics. I am so happy you showed both versions! I loved your reaction video. I was floored the first time and everytime watching and listening to his cover video. Amazing. ❤
Simon Garfunkel told David Draiman from Disturbed that this was his song now just like Bob Dylan told Jimi Hendrix that All Along The Watchtower was his song after the cover he did
Oh my. Both versions. What an unexpected treat! Thank you!! I get a gut punch reaction every time I play this on my playlist. I think it's an empathy meter.
The wobble at the end of the live version was vocal fry. He was sick as a dog. Down with the sickness, you might say. But seriously, he was very ill at the time and pushed through it to deliver a gut punching, moving performance. There's another with myles Kennedy that was really awesome, too. You said it though - one of the absolute best covers ever done of any song
You, my friend, get it! Those words have always been so powerful to me. Now the voice matches. Don’t get me wrong, I was front row center in 1969 for the S&G concert. They have my heart and soul.
Might be my favorite reaction to this song and I’ve watched them all! And they did add some audio tune. He didn’t want them to but he was sick and I guess they thought they had to add it. Wish they hadn’t but yes still amazing

I just watching people like you viewing for the first time is wonderful at the reactions. I cant stop watching it either. I dont like heavy metal at all but this is so like a addict.
THIS is Goosebumps Music. David Draiman is a classically trained singer, he is capable of much more that just raspy heavy metal. And we can hear it here, it is so beautiful and haunting. When Paul Simon watched that live version in the Conan Show, he really loved it. 150 M views ! One comment reads: "One of the best live performances ever in TV history." Well, imo actually one of the BEST covers of ANY song EVER.
David is my favorite male voice in all of music and im not even a huge Disturbed fan. Its just perfection from top to bottom, clean or grit, with the ideal tone for me.
Thats a grand statement! Wow... he sounded incredible here but for me.... best male rock vocal Ronnie James Dio ( although obviously Freddie Mercury is not forgotten)
@ReactADHD nothing wrong with either choice of those, and I can't lie they're both up there for me too, Queen especially... and to me, controversial though it may be, I have to give the edge to David over Freddie by a hair. Gah. Such talented singers, all of them! This much talent is practically unfair. Lol
Your reaction was amazing! I felt your energy, and I felt like I just left the gym!🤣😂🤣😆 Great reaction! S&G's version was a warning that we are growing apart due, in part, to technology and that we need to learn to communicate our feelings and stop relying on material things to appease us. Wake up! Disturb's version is basically rage that we didn’t heed the warning in the 60's and now, 60 years later, we are even more attached to our "neon gods" internet, texts, emails, buried in our cell phones and communicate even more poorly than during the 60's with the civil unrest and the Vietnam war. Television, back then, was the 'neon god' that everyone paid attention to and paid less attention to humanity😢. We just don't get it! I'm 63 and, admittedly, never realized the meaning of the song, but David's delivery of the message really drove it home! I get it and I hope we all can wake up in time! Feelings and emotions are conveyed through music. In the video, the musicians on the left bring their instruments across the channel to the people with the sheet music on the right. A nice metaphor for the message that S&G were trying to convey. In the video, we don't see the boat meet up with the musicians, but, maybe, someday we will!😢 Thank you for sharing your reaction😊❤!
I truly appreciate your kind words! It’s great to know that the energy I felt resonated with you and sparked such deep reflections on the song's meaning.
This has been on my funeral song list for many years! Among several others. Nothing morbid with planning, as death is the only sure thing after birth...
That's what I thought! When I voted for the konan version and saw I was getting out voted, I thought ahh shame. Now having watched the reaction, I'm glad he did both versions.
If I remember correctly, someone said he was ill for this performance. This is my favorite version of this song. It is so stunning and impactful. I've listened to it alot, and I still get chills every single time. Great reaction!
David was very sick, 102 temp. Disturbed never uses auto tune, the producers of Conan, were afraid he couldnt hit some parts and added auto tune without him knowing. When David found out he was MAD!! David was also trained to be a Cantor ( his Grandpa was a Cantor in the largest synaguge in Israel)got kicked out due to a few fractions. Last one was, the Rabbi's van blew up😂
FYI, David had the flu while doing the live performance, with a temperature of 102! This might answer your query at the end. I discovered this cover a couple of years ago, listened hundreds of times. It is THE MOST profound, spiritual, orgasmic piece I have ever had the fortune of listening to!!!!!!!!
I love Disturbed and Get Down with the Sickness is in my list of fav songs of all time. And his rasp on this cover is perfect. Gives the words of the song more power than the original. Love your reactions, Ollie! Two thumbs up 👍👍
wanna really blow your mind, find David's a capella version of sound of silence. that one really gets me every time. ths really is the best cover of any song ever.
I love Simon and Garfunkel! Art has the most angelic voice and I love the original! However I think I love this more! His voice is amazing and I only heard of Disturbed about 18 months ago when I saw someone react to it! I was gobsmacked! I am old and I grew up on Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Heart etc… Something I would love to see you react to was a collaboration between Disturbed and Ann Wilson of Heart called “Don’t Tell Me” the video came out about 9-10 months ago and it is amazing! I think she was 72 or 73 at the time and she still sounds great! Loving your reactions! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It's amazing to connect with someone who appreciates both the classics and the new interpretations. I’ll definitely look into that Disturbed and Ann Wilson collaboration-your enthusiasm is contagious!
He was pretty sick and was weak with a Dr standing by... They did use auto tone without his consent is what I've read. I loved your reactions Like mentioned prior, we watch to vicariously experience our first times again.
Really really loved your reaction❤ you made me getting excited as I did the first time I heard the song years ago. I've heard it about a thousand times since and it still gets me every time
Supposedly, the producers did use auto tune in two places against his will before they aired the show, because he was sick. David was PISSED. That's lore that I've picked up along the way. No idea if it's true.
Don’t often watch “not Ren reacts” but this is an incredible song and I enjoy your commentary so let’s roll! Maybe check out “wrong side of heaven by five finger deathpunch” incredible tune if you haven’t heard it! Great react man!
@ your gonna like that one like this disturbed one I think. I’m a veteran myself and this song crushes me. Such a beautiful message to the song and an incredible story told in the background with the video.
Disturbed is one of my favorite groups and David Draiman is a top tier vocalist! I never cared for the Simon and Garfunkel original because it is completely not my style of music, and I heard it as a child as part of my parents' music. After hearing this version, I truly listened to the lyrics and was stunned! One of my favorite songs ever, but I consider this version to be Disturbed's song, not a cover. It means a ton to me and I love to watch other people discover this for the first time! And the video is spectacular! David was sick during his live Conan performance, btw. Had a cold/flu and STILL crushed it! (I want my funeral song to be a different Disturbed song ... "Hold On To The Memories." Another softer song than their usual, but soooo beautiful.) If you're a hard rock/metal fan, check out some of their catalog. Maybe "The Night."
Disturbed definitely owns that song now! It's like they took Simon and Garfunkel's original and gave it a much-needed makeover-like turning a cozy sweater into a leather jacket!
It’s so refreshing to watch someone who can’t sit still 🤣 I also love the genuine reactions of a neurodivergent brain 🧠 Makes me feel better to know it’s not just me, especially when I seem to drive other people mad!! Haha
This version is dark and foreboding (which is right up my street 😊). Others have mentioned the acappela group Pentatonix. They do a more hopeful version of this that you should check out. Pentatonix is a wjole other rabbit hole you could explore, with plenty of covers and originals in their backlist. You'll need to add filters and pause a few times to get their videos through, though. But! Back to this one, the video is awesome, but the live is * chef's kiss * 💋
Thank you for the thoughtful comment! I appreciate you sharing the suggestion for Pentatonix. It's always great to explore new music, and I love that you found the live performance to be a highlight!
Paul Simon Loved this Version so much that he put it on his playlist. Also, David Does NOT use AUTO Tune. They Tried to use it during rehearsal ( He was a little under the weather) Well That did Fly With David. So again No Auto Tune. By the way, I just liked and Subscribed. ✌
I completely agree with you; it is the best cover. To say this about one of the most beautifully written songs is saying a lot. He has certainly taken it to another level, much more intense and dramatic than the legendary "Simon and Garfunkel". The deep voice and scraped heavy metal, they are anthological. There is a very interesting a cappella version of "Pentatonix". My list of singers and bands would be endless, but I see that you are well advised on this magical journey. Thanks for your reaction.
Yes, again because he was so sick, they opted to use a little autotune, although David denies it. For me it doesnt take away from his ability. My favourite story about this performance is that while he was singing, the crowd was absolutely silent, and the entire crew back stage stopped what they were doing to come out and watch - both of these were firsts for the Conan show
Great reaction man 👍❤ Love how you feel the songs and live the music. It's a lot of fun enjoying the music with you.🫂 By the way, David wasn't in good shape when he was singing at the Conan Show. He was still a little sick.
No auto tune, he was really sick and Dr told him not to sing.. but he didn’t want to miss this. I think he had surgery on his vocal cords not long after… I may be wrong but thought I read that on other comments.
You’re my new favorite find!! I absolutely LOVE that you did both versions. The way they took this song and just ATE it up!! It 100% is the BEST cover - ever! Cheers!!
WOW!! What a recommendation everyone!! THIS WAS AMAZING!

The great part of 1st time reactions is us viewers get to vicariously relive the first time we heard these songs
I am glad it does!
The first time I heard this, I could feel his breath on the back of my neck. Just incredible.
David was actually very sick before the Conan performance but didn't want to cancel. That's why he sat down and the warble.
Paul Simon said that it was the best cover he has ever heard.
David Draimen trained as a Cantor at his Jewish day school.
I am addicted to watching reaction vids to this

In the live performance David was battling with a nasty cold, you have to give him kudos for singing through this.

If you're a hard rock/metal fan, check out some of their catalog. Maybe "The Night."
Disturbed definitely owns that song now! It's like they took Simon and Garfunkel's original and gave it a much-needed makeover-like turning a cozy sweater into a leather jacket!
Take a little time to watch a live version where he duets with myles Kennedy from alterbridge it’s absolutely spine tingling
Myles Kennedy is my hero lol ever since RockStar the movie! He is UNREAL
Yes! My favorite version is live in Houston with Myles Kennedy.
It’s so refreshing to watch someone who can’t sit still 🤣 I also love the genuine reactions of a neurodivergent brain 🧠 Makes me feel better to know it’s not just me, especially when I seem to drive other people mad!! Haha
Haha, I like to think of it as being on a perpetual caffeine high! Who needs to sit still when there’s so much to explore, right?
Absolutely love this version and your reaction. Have watched and listened so many times, never get tired of it.
thats sweet of you, thank you!
The base live on Conan is probably lower as David was sick, which I can hear a bit in his lower notes and vibrato
Awesome thanks 🙏🏻
My favourite story about this performance is that while he was singing, the crowd was absolutely silent, and the entire crew back stage stopped what they were doing to come out and watch - both of these were firsts for the Conan show
The original was a warning...this version is very much a "y'all done f*cked up!"
Not autotune... he has that ability. he was also sick when recording this live version.
apparently the show put autotune on in 2 places against his will!
Goosebumps every single time I’ve watched this ❤️
Great reaction man 👍❤
Love how you feel the songs and live the music. It's a lot of fun enjoying the music with you.🫂
By the way, David wasn't in good shape when he was singing at the Conan Show. He was still a little sick.
No auto tune, he was really sick and Dr told him not to sing.. but he didn’t want to miss this. I think he had surgery on his vocal cords not long after… I may be wrong but thought I read that on other comments.
He was sick and had a fever when he was performing on Conan
so I hear! still smashed it
"Is my sound working?" My Instant thought was AH... THE SOUND OF SILENCE!! 😂 I do love this song 😊
Have you listened to Breaking Benjamin before?
hahaha yeah, I was caught out....
No never heard of it!
@ReactADHD It's a band, I think you would really like them! They've got some heavy stuff and also some lighter stuff. My favourite band 😊
absolutely LOVE ur reaction! ive seen 100's of reactions to this song but urs is very moving!
Thanks so much!
You’re my new favorite find!! I absolutely LOVE that you did both versions. The way they took this song and just ATE it up!! It 100% is the BEST cover - ever!
Cheers!!
wow, big thanks!! Welcome!
Same here. I've been hoping someone would do this!
