That's the best cover hands down but Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt' is a close second. It is so good Trent Reznor the original singer/song writer admitted it was better. Well worth checking out if you get time. And I've watched literally hundreds of people reacting to Ren and you are my absolutely my favorite. What a gift you are. ♥
Trent said it's not his song any more after Cash's version. Trent said it's now Cash's song! I thought that was fabulous, as is the cover. Considering what it was wrote about and then the way the Johnny Cash version is done, giving it a whole new meaning.
I love Disturbed and Get Down with the Sickness is in my list of fav songs of all time. And his rasp on this cover is perfect. Gives the words of the song more power than the original. Love your reactions, Ollie! Two thumbs up 👍👍
I'm not really a fan of Disturbed, but this is one of the best covers i've ever heard and have watched and listened to both versions hundreds of times at this point. Your react when he goes off toward the end was so great, subscribed to your channel today. Keep the vids coming, i'll keep watching.
Thank you so much for subscribing! I'm thrilled to hear that my reaction resonated with you. Your support means a lot, and I can’t wait to share more videos with you!
I saw them live 2 years ago and when David started singing this, the audience were crying and singing along. Of course I wept too. He sang it Metal mode lol. Beautiful show. Great reaction ❤❤
I first heard this driving a lorry through the centre of Bath and it effected me that much I nearly rear ended a bus! Had to pull over and take a breath and listened to it in repeat the rest of my shift
THIS is Goosebumps Music. David Draiman is a classically trained singer, he is capable of much more that just raspy heavy metal. And we can hear it here, it is so beautiful and haunting. When Paul Simon watched that live version in the Conan Show, he really loved it. 150 M views ! One comment reads: "One of the best live performances ever in TV history." Well, imo actually one of the BEST covers of ANY song EVER.
This version is dark and foreboding (which is right up my street 😊). Others have mentioned the acappela group Pentatonix. They do a more hopeful version of this that you should check out. Pentatonix is a wjole other rabbit hole you could explore, with plenty of covers and originals in their backlist. You'll need to add filters and pause a few times to get their videos through, though. But! Back to this one, the video is awesome, but the live is * chef's kiss * 💋
Thank you for the thoughtful comment! I appreciate you sharing the suggestion for Pentatonix. It's always great to explore new music, and I love that you found the live performance to be a highlight!
Yes, again because he was so sick, they opted to use a little autotune, although David denies it. For me it doesnt take away from his ability. My favourite story about this performance is that while he was singing, the crowd was absolutely silent, and the entire crew back stage stopped what they were doing to come out and watch - both of these were firsts for the Conan show
Seen them live a couple of times during the first few years of Ozzfest. They were phenomenal. They do a couple of other covers from some 80’s hits. One of my favorite originals is Conflict. It’s definitely the metal you would expect from Disturbed. They also have random concert videos where he talks to the crowd and has let them on stage. I highly recommend you check those out as well.
Ah, the early years of Ozzfest-a time when hair was big and the riffs were even bigger! "Conflict" is a metal masterpiece for sure. I guess it's safe to say that Disturbed doesn't just play, they bring the thunder!
Don’t often watch “not Ren reacts” but this is an incredible song and I enjoy your commentary so let’s roll! Maybe check out “wrong side of heaven by five finger deathpunch” incredible tune if you haven’t heard it! Great react man!
@ your gonna like that one like this disturbed one I think. I’m a veteran myself and this song crushes me. Such a beautiful message to the song and an incredible story told in the background with the video.
I love Simon and Garfunkel! Art has the most angelic voice and I love the original! However I think I love this more! His voice is amazing and I only heard of Disturbed about 18 months ago when I saw someone react to it! I was gobsmacked! I am old and I grew up on Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Heart etc… Something I would love to see you react to was a collaboration between Disturbed and Ann Wilson of Heart called “Don’t Tell Me” the video came out about 9-10 months ago and it is amazing! I think she was 72 or 73 at the time and she still sounds great! Loving your reactions! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It's amazing to connect with someone who appreciates both the classics and the new interpretations. I’ll definitely look into that Disturbed and Ann Wilson collaboration-your enthusiasm is contagious!
You’re my new favorite find!! I absolutely LOVE that you did both versions. The way they took this song and just ATE it up!! It 100% is the BEST cover - ever! Cheers!!
Disturbed is one of my favorite groups and David Draiman is a top tier vocalist! I never cared for the Simon and Garfunkel original because it is completely not my style of music, and I heard it as a child as part of my parents' music. After hearing this version, I truly listened to the lyrics and was stunned! One of my favorite songs ever, but I consider this version to be Disturbed's song, not a cover. It means a ton to me and I love to watch other people discover this for the first time! And the video is spectacular! David was sick during his live Conan performance, btw. Had a cold/flu and STILL crushed it! (I want my funeral song to be a different Disturbed song ... "Hold On To The Memories." Another softer song than their usual, but soooo beautiful.) If you're a hard rock/metal fan, check out some of their catalog. Maybe "The Night."
Disturbed definitely owns that song now! It's like they took Simon and Garfunkel's original and gave it a much-needed makeover-like turning a cozy sweater into a leather jacket!
That's what I thought! When I voted for the konan version and saw I was getting out voted, I thought ahh shame. Now having watched the reaction, I'm glad he did both versions.
David is my favorite male voice in all of music and im not even a huge Disturbed fan. Its just perfection from top to bottom, clean or grit, with the ideal tone for me.
Thats a grand statement! Wow... he sounded incredible here but for me.... best male rock vocal Ronnie James Dio ( although obviously Freddie Mercury is not forgotten)
@ReactADHD nothing wrong with either choice of those, and I can't lie they're both up there for me too, Queen especially... and to me, controversial though it may be, I have to give the edge to David over Freddie by a hair. Gah. Such talented singers, all of them! This much talent is practically unfair. Lol
This has been on my funeral song list for many years! Among several others. Nothing morbid with planning, as death is the only sure thing after birth...
Supposedly, the producers did use auto tune in two places against his will before they aired the show, because he was sick. David was PISSED. That's lore that I've picked up along the way. No idea if it's true.
Great reaction man 👍❤ Love how you feel the songs and live the music. It's a lot of fun enjoying the music with you.🫂 By the way, David wasn't in good shape when he was singing at the Conan Show. He was still a little sick.
I love that you did both versions! I have always said what you said. This is the best cover song I have ever heard. He actually had a lesion on his left vocal chord when he did Conan! I saw him talking about it during an interview with another reactor. That could explain what you heard at the end of the song. I hope you listen to some Disturbed. They are a fantastic band. Here is the link to the part of that interview where he talked about his voice during the Conan show, if you're interested. It is very short. ua-cam.com/video/idFt3y9HlYI/v-deo.html

For something kind of connected and definitely different for your channel would be to also react to the version of this the acapella version of this by Pentatonix. Or just go check it out yourself for the enjoyment of it!!
Great reaction! I loved this version when i first heard it. Enjoyed the original and its rare i prefer a cover when i really like an original! Another cover is of Lynayrd Skynyrds-Simple Man. A band named shinedown did it too. Thats another amazing cover and i will sit and listen to either at anytime of day.
I really appreciate your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction. It's always exciting to discover covers that resonate just as much as the originals!

An amazing cover that gives me chills every time. If you might entertain another suggestion in the genre of "covers", please give Bad Wolves version of Zombies (original by the Cranberries). You won't regret it
I’m not a Disturbed fan but this cover is better than the original imo. I’ve binge watched this track and there’s an acapella version (someone has just removed the instrumentation from a live performance) It’s worth a listen, not for a reaction, just because it’s epic. Lovely to see someone as impressed with this as I am
Thank you for your kind words! It’s always great to connect with others who appreciate music in a new light. I’ll definitely check out that acapella version!

No auto tune, he was really sick and Dr told him not to sing.. but he didn’t want to miss this. I think he had surgery on his vocal cords not long after… I may be wrong but thought I read that on other comments.
The live version still gives me chills. I don't get that with the studio version. I guess he was sick (pneumonia or something) and it's been determined he WAS auto tuned but it's more about the feeling than the technicality of it. So great.
I completely agree! There's something about the raw emotion in live performances that just can't be replicated in the studio. It's all about that connection!
I have to disagree with using this as a funeral song, as I wouldn't want to add any more negative feelings to a funeral, but I get where you're coming from

David was actually very sick before the Conan performance but didn't want to cancel. That's why he sat down and the warble.
I so wanted to hate this, because I grew up listening to the original, but I can't. Absolute chills!
You really need to react to a group called Pentatonics they're a 5 mixed acapela group and their cover of hallelujah will shock you. Talent.
Yes, Came here to say this. Their version of Sound of Silence is my ALL Time Favourite ❤❤
David Draiman, lead singer of Disturbed, was formally trained as a cantor
Thanks for sharing that! It’s always interesting to learn more about an artist’s background and how it shapes their music.
