To help you understand how professional David is, he was very sick when he did this show, and everyone made him sit during the performance because they were afraid that he would fall down when he went in to beast mode. Paul Simon wrote this song, and when he saw this performance he called David and congratulated him, and Paul even put it on his social media so that others could see it. Great reaction. I'm glad I found your channel.
In 1965 when this song was performed by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel it was a premonition ,
The being sick story was just PR.
@@65cj55 Provide your facts or shut up.
@@davidbrannon2627 Just what i read, there's no proof he was sick either, the industry works like this.
@@65cj55 hearsay and conjecture then, lacking any evidence
This is a classic song by the legends - Simon & Garfunkel from the 1960s & 1970s. You will discover them.. this one of the best covers of all time. Keep your mind open .. and your ears.
The best cover of this song of all time
Johnny Cash did a cover of NIN's
Hurt. Great song.
This band is one of my favorites, and this cover is better than the original, imo. David Draiman is a phenomenal singer / artist,so sexy (!), amazing in concert... and, yes, a perfectly bald head! I hope you do more Disturbed songs!!!
If she listens to the original she's going to think it's a different song :)) .... don't get me wrong the original song's flower power vibe is a nice contrast to the lyrics but those lyrics go much better with this cover arrangement and David's voice ^^
The sweet version of this song was done Simon and Garfunkel the writers, this version seems to be more angry about the conditions of society
The original was like a haunting dream that you can't quite remember when you wake up.
This version is the nightmare that wakes you up in the middle of the night and won't let you go back to sleep.
saw on another reaction some say that the original is a warning of whaat is to come and this is anger that the warning wasn't heard
The original by Simon and Garfunkel was softer and has been said to be a gentle push in the right direction and this is a hard shove because we did not pay attention the first time.
whatever
@@wde8160 glad you feel the need to show how awful you are to the world. Good job.
S & G = lament; Disturbed = accusation
One thing I found out that I always share is that David comes from generations of Cantors. He did ultimately become professionally trained to maintain his vocals but what amazes me is that he shows such respect to those that came before him and their heritage. He does not have any tattoos, thus the piercings.
He removes them before going to his grandfather's home or family gatherings out of respect for them.
So not only is he an extremely gifted vocalist but a very respectful and humble man. What a combo!
I didn't know any of his background. Thank you for posting this.
He went to college to be a Cantor. It was in college that he decided to go a different direction. His story is crazy when you think of some of the music they make and how David is rather wholesome.
and, do you have anything to say?
Great background info.. he is definitely my favorite ❤
David has since removed the chin piercing. Told 1 interviewer that he felt he was getting to an age where having used them to make the desired statement it was time to remove them.then chucked and said the were a pain to work around and could be just plan painful. That was just shortly after his 46th birthday. He turned 50 on March 13 of this year
A classic Simon and Garfunkel song, totally reimagined and brilliantly executed.
It is a very well performed cover from "Simon&Garfunkel" who released that song in 1965...a song with textual timeless significance
whatever
I'm a 56 year old guy and have seen this song nearly a thousand times and it never ceases to make me tear up. It's such a beautiful song. In this one he was extremely ill and wasn't expected to make it but he did it and the audience was so stunned in amazement they almost forgot to clap as they were so amazed and moved by it. The official music video is even better with an amazing video track. I've seen people who react on here and people in real Life who cry or get goosebumps from the very first word, some are bawling their eyes out and oddly enough it more men than women but it's not tears of sadness but pure emotion elicited by the beautiful words, music and video. I've seen professionally trained vocal coaches, musicians etc who have just been absolutely stunned and moved to tears at how well done this song is. When Paul Simon contacted David the singer and told him how moved he was and told David it is now his song well that says everything.
PS, when he finished the 3 hours of rehearsal for the song when they were laying down the track he came out of the booth and listened to the playback. He wouldn't look at the others there and they thought he must've been disappointed with the results but in truth he was crying because he was so moved at how beautiful it was and didn't want the others to see him crying
Paul Simon wrote this song in 1964 about a dream he had. David Draiman is amazing and Disturbed can do any kind of music they choose...amazing group all around.
this is a simon and garfunkel original from 1965 and disturbed done there version and brilliant too
The original by Simon and Garfunkel was a mellow warning. Disturbed's version, David's voice get deeper, harder, harsher filled with anger because people have not heeded the warning.
Side note David is a classically trained vocalist
Yeah, the original was a warning and this is a battle cry. I love how this arrangement is kind of a love letter to music, there’s so many different styles referenced in the arrangement and they all play together.
And another two side notes... Simon and Garfunkel along with David are all Jewish. Also, David's brother is a singer in Israel.
love the history to a masterpiece Paul Simon wrote “The Sound of Silence” in his parents’ bathroom in Queens, New York in 1964. It was completely dark and he had the water running - a sound he described as “soothing”. The bathroom was one of Simon’s favourite places to write and the song’s famous first line, “Hello darkness, my old friend”, salutes that fact.
I don't know if i am the only one at the end that gets so into the song i forget to breath. His voice and the lyrics is so damn powerful. Great reaction

Hey Britt! I’m really enjoying your reviews! Just a heads up… there was an echo on the music this time that resulted in a lot of reverb when David was singing that I’ve never heard on any of your videos before. (I’m not sure what was different this time, but it definitely affected sound quality.)
This song was written by Paul Simon of the singing duet, Simon & Garfunkel. They were a famous duet in the sixties and seventies. Paul’s lyrics to this song are as profound and relevant today as they were back then.
The words and music are by Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel. One of the greatest poets of our modern age and a helluva musician. Aside from this version and the original, the Acapella band Pentatonix did a genius interpretation that needs to be watched.
Love your channel. ✌️💖🎼
The lyrics are so genius, written by Paul Simon (of Simon and Garfunkel), who also wrote Bridge Over Troubled Water and many more iconic songs.
One of my all-time favorite songs, and every bit as relevant today as it was when it was first penned roughly 60 years ago. Even better, this particular cover is, in my opinion, one of the top 5 covers of any song I have ever heard, and breathed new life into it.
If you haven't watched the video..... its amazing!! These guys are super hard rock band. So this rendition is a shock for anyone who knows this groups reg music. This gives me CHILLS every time I hear it and Ive heard it a thousand times!!!
Epic cover of a song with great essence. Goosebumps!
You are definitely right on track and not even close to "too deep". Go also are impressive no matter what. This is especially true if you already listen to disturbed. Life changing ability. Great job you!
This was a good performance seeing that he was sick and I believe he had a fever of 103 while doing this but what you have to watch have to watch is the video the video brings the lyrics and the visual to a whole Nother level of meaning of course this is Simon and Garfunkel’s hit from the 60s Which was profound when it came out and his rendition of it is profound and the days that we live in now also because unfortunately not much has changed, we’re still missing each other talking at each other but it’s powerful and it makes you think like it made people think when I was a little child and heard this the first time this new version was just everything to me hearing it as old adult stay blessed love your channel
You need to see the video, then you will understand, watching David's Eyes says it all, one of the best covers ever right up there with, PostModernJukebox featuring Morgan James singing "Aerosmith's" Dream On (check it out it's amazing) and of course the #1 cover Heart honoring "Led Zeppelin" at the Lincoln Center singing Stairway to Heaven, don't go there if your faint of heart (no pun intended) if not now, eventually you will have no choice, but to sample these, they are after all the best!!! Peace Love, catch you later! PS Thanks love your reacts.😂😂😂😂😂
I’ve seen Disturbed live a couple times and they’re always excellent. I saw them back before this song was released so I’ve heard it live in particular, but they always sound good. I got to meet David Draiman, the singer, and he was exceptionally nice and humble. Even though I was working the event he still took a moment to talk with me and thank me for being a fan. He just seemed happy that people enjoyed their music enough to come out and spend the money to see them live. He just had that kind of presence about him, whether he was interacting with a fan, or talking to event staff like me, he just seemed kind and grateful. As someone who has seen countless bands and worked at a concert venue, I’ve met a lot of bands and artists and there aren’t a whole lot like David Draiman. Even though I only spoke to him briefly, I’ve got nothing but nice things to say about the guy. That was one instance where I was happy to have met one of my heroes. He’s a gem.
Lucky you met him! I would absolutely love to❤
💙💙💙🎼💙💙💙 .. yepp ! Your reactions have helped me this morning. I was raised on Country Music .. now I sing everything and love everything. Glad I found you Britt .. you have a good energy for hearing new music. Great choice here !
Thank you so much! I hope you have a beautiful day!
Disturbed has done several great covers of legendary songs. There’s this one by Simon and Garfunkel, Shout by Tears for Fears, and Land of Confusion by Genesis. David Draiman has such a range and talent. He can sing this serious soft song, then he can sing Land of confusion that’s a little harder rock but he can get grimy in songs like Down With the Sickness.
Ohhhh wah, ah, ah, ah!
written by Paul Simon, some people have dared to say one of the most beautifully written songs of all time, that's a really bold statement to make but you gotta admit it really is a beautiful piece of work, many thought provoking lyrics.......thankyou paul
He was even sick that night That's crazy I remember this was so so good it still puts chills on me the video just gives it even more depth👊🏻🫶🏼
Another great cover to check out is Chris Cornell - "Nothing Compares 2 U" (Prince cover made famous by Sinead O'Conner) [Live @ SiriusXM] | Lithium.
Simon and Garfunkel wrote this in the mid-1960s as a social justice song and had a huge hit with it. It has been covered countless times. But when David came along and sang it decades later, most people would describe it as Simon and Garfunkel sounded the alarm, but Disturbed showed how angry we should be that the stuff really hasn't changed all that much all this time later. People are still refusing to listen and provide solutions to the problems. The Sound of Silence.
You really ought to hear the original as well, it is quite beautiful and you will understand why it made such a big impact even all those decades ago.
Welcome Disturbed one ❤️ they are awesome! Take a dive into their music and David's voice
Top three favorite covers of all time 🖤🖤🖤
David Draiman had the flu when he did this performance. They sat him on the stool because they were afraid he might fall over. Paul Simon wrote them a letter expressing how much he liked the performance and also shared the video on his social media, which he has never done for a cover of one of his songs.
Congrats for 15k!!!!!! you will reach 50k, then 100k in no time girl! You are magnetic!!!!
I love that man. David is awesome. This song was my “gateway” drug into DISTURBED. Having NEVER liked metal I can’t believe I actually listen and enjoy, we’ll just DISTURBED, but hey, it’s metal. 😂 I really like you, and I DID understand what you were trying to say, guess we both have unique minds. Anyway, great reaction. I know this is off topic, but have you heard of PENTATONIX? If not, they have a VERY large & LOYAL fan base known as PENTAHOLICS I like to say WATCH ONE AND YOUR DONE…AND THEY WILL COME. If you decide to check them out I suggest either…HALLELUJAH or DAFT PUNK which is their first of 3 Grammys. We find out on Monday if they’ve won a 4th. If you aren’t already, please join us in the rabbit hole, you WONT BE DISAPPOINTED but you will be in for a wild ride. Oh yeah, they’re world famous and they’re ACAPELLA.
Good reaction. With David's training as a Chazzan(Jewish Cantor) he brings a spiritual depth to this song. For another surprise react to Jinjer "Pisces" (Live Session)
the original performers of the song , simon and garfunkle , loved the cover !
You should hear the Pentatonix cover... Stunning, breathtaking.
I adore your channel ♥️ Don't stop! Embrace every moment ♥️
I've seen Disturbed live twice and was right up front the last time I saw them do this song. As good as it is in videos is nothing to compare to seeing it up close and personal
I did watch singers and teachers talking about and above this song, but girl you described it like a legend it's how I feel it just the same Ty for this
One of the best covers out there!
Definitely got to check out the studio version with the video. The video is great but the performance itself is just mind-blowing. You can actually hear some of the nuance better than this live show. And it's definitely stronger vocally but then again Not only was this one live, but he was sick that night.
This is a cover of the classic 1960s folk rock song by Simon and Garfunkel. The profound lyrics are from the mind of Paul Simon. Paul Simon himself heaped praise on this particular cover version. Disturbed lead vocalist David Draiman really makes this song his own. You might enjoy reacting to some classic Simon and Garfunkel tunes including:
This song (Sound of Silence)
Bridge Over Troubled Water
The Boxer
among many others.
Great reaction to this amazing rendition.
Bright Eyes is an immediate flashback to childhood trauma for many in the UK, however.
I gotcha girl! Heard this lots of times, you made me hear it differently!
I could see that last stanza took you to another level...its mind-blowing 🤯🤯
David Draiman is one of my all time favorite vocalists. From any genre of music.
If I am not trippin, he was sick when he sang this song on conan, watch the other video with the story line, you are right it is DEEP.
a very old saying Britt "NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER" this song is decades old from Simon and Garfunkal now covered by Disturbed
I have listened to this over and over, and tonight it hit me. This is a summation of my feelings as a forward-deployed Army Nurse in Iraq.
Would love to see you react to the original, the disturbed music video, and Pentatonix version of the song, you can pick up 3 distinct messages in all 3 renditions
Fun Fact;
Sound of Silence was writing by Paul Simon and was originally performed my Simon and Garfunkle in 1966
I love watching people react to this song I remember when I first heard it I knew Simon and Garfunkel I knew disturbed but I couldn’t see how they could cover this song and make it sound good damn was I surprised
Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning to us. Disturbed's version was anger that the warning was ignored. And Finally Pentatonix version was to show there is still hope. Listen to them all back to back to back to get the full affect each has.
The silence of the Germans who didn't support the nazis but let the Holocaust happen, the silence the whites who supported the blacks in the Civil Rights Movement but didn't get off the bus, or never even got on the bus and said nothing. That and so much more is what this song is about.
"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." - Martin Luther King Jr.
Great song , one of the best covers ever. Also great analysis by you 👍🏻🇨🇦
Not sure if this has been posted here... but Paul Simon said... this is HIS song now. He took it to the next level, and I LOVE IT.
I would encourage listening to Simon and Garfunkel album Bridge over troubled water. They were brilliant songwriters and amazing singers. Paul Simon had a good solo career with many amazing songs. He wrote his own songs. I enjoyed Disturbed version. What a powerful singer. pentonex also did a great version of it which I also would love to see you review.
I found you less than an hour ago reacting to Fancy and you have already reacted to three of my favorite songs.
I love you.
Britt, you really need to listen to a man who also recoded his version of The Sound of Silence. Check out Touch of Class which is his bands name and his version of this song, has been watched by more than 10 million so far on UA-cam. I would love to see you do a reaction video of his cover because I will guarantee that your jaw will drop, as he reach the climax of the song and his voice has so much soul in it. Please give it a quick listen. 🤞🤞
The official video of this song is so much more intense than any of the live performances.
It's a really haunting video...my first experience was a version with Star Wars video game and it fit so perfectly
Sound of Silence originally by Simon and Garfunkel and Disturbed's lead singer is a formally trained OPERA singer!
Remember that film that was so good you didn't want it to end, this is the equivalent but a song
This is a Bob Dylan classic popularized by the Simon and Garfunkel remake of it. Disturbed IS a very major Metal band. Worldwide headliners. Listen to the uncensored version of their monster hit "Down With The Sickness" lyric video.
As you have probably learned by now, it’s a cover. The original artists were Simon (short guy) and Garfunkel (tall guy). Classic song that is obviously loved. Many have covered it, but, this cover is amazing.
I've been watching a ton of your videos in the past few weeks, I like your reactions. But for years I have loved watching people discover certain songs. This is one song that I have watched dozens of reactions. My only wish is that you see the official video -- it has over a biollion views! This is a cover of a song from the 1970's and this version has far outsold the original.
What also was amazing is that he told them he didn't need Autotune but they did it anyway, if you watch the video he notices the one moment that it pokes out from his voice and he gives them a sideways glance "like really?" And then he does the most powerful parts of the song. And all of this with a head cold. He is amazing.
I'm old and grew up with the Simon and Garfunkel version, written by Paul Simon... It's a beautiful song! BUT, when I heard this cover by Disturbed! It's absolutely my very favorite ever! Unbelievably deep!!! ❤❤❤❤
This song rocks, it used to be my favorite cover until the PTX cover but it's still a very close second.. I forgot how much I dig those giant drums too
No worries Britt.. You described this song PERFECT!(The silence surrounding the song) It makes sense!! :)
perfectly
@@wde8160 Tomato Tamato
Great reaction cutie! Luv ya. “The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls.”
"The Sound of Silence," originally "The Sounds of Silence," is a song by the American music duo Simon & Garfunkel. The song was written by Paul Simon over several months in 1963/1964 and released in 1964.
Your breakdown of silence being loud made me think of 'Twenty One Pilots - Car Radio' good one to react to....
YES! (this is in reference to, this is how silence sounds) - I have the same kind of brain, the atmosphere around anything can really drive the energy unknowingly!
I love the original simon and grafukel song but this take on it gives me chills
It is a metal band 😁👌
Simon and Garfunkel wrote this song as a warning, and they did it as a folk song, that was back in the 60''s distrbred version is the anger that nobody listensed, . it was all about technology through the years x
Britt, damn girl, I had no idea you could react like this and yes...Deep is exactly right... beautiful, insightful reaction!! Paul Simon, was the original author of this song famous for decades as "his song" until Disturbed covered it... so Paul Simon told Disturbed... this is "your song now" the best covers of any song I think manage to find a new way for next generation to appreciate the true power of the original... and Disturbed absolutely re-created this monster classic for today
I think you listened to a dual-layered version of that video, you can hear the "echo" sing _before_ his real voice comes in. In some ways it gives the performance more oomph, but it also distorts it, detracts from it.
You should most definitely react to Pisces by Jinjer, the live session. That song and the vocal range of their singer will absolutely blow you away!
Music video is a must to watch,
Simon and Garfunkel wrote the song about the advent of technology. Specifically the TV. They fealt at the time that technology would eventually lead to the fall of society as people no longer talked to each other. It was written as a warning. Disturbed's version is the sadness/anger that no one listened.
this is a cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song from the 60s. the best cover of this song i've heard.
There are two parts in this song that I love more than the rest, even if the entire song is beautiful
"And the words like silent raindrops fell, and echoed in the well of silence"
raindrops can fall for a long time, making no sound until they hit something which is where it makes a sound, but here it echoes where no one can hear it, but he is singing about the words of wisdom that go unheard because people are so busy worshipping their phones, tv's and such
"The words of the prophets were written on the subway walls and tenement halls"
The true bearers of wisdom in the world can be anyone but they just scribble their wisdom randomly since no one listens to wisdom anymore, but the words of wisdom is out there for anyone who actually is interested in hearing
This is a amazing cover Disturbed will touch your soul with this
The original is wonderful and beautiful, this cover is great, really makes the lyrics and meaning stand out. Paul Simon on hearing this shared it because he was so impressed. This is very different than what Disturbed usually does. David Draiman is such a talented singer, her can scream like a banshee, growl like a beast, and also sing as sweet as an angel.
All of Simon & Garfunkel music shouldn't be missed. One of their most popular songs is "Bridge Over Troubled Water", and I especially like "The Boxer".
Paul Simon, one of the greatest songwriters ever, wrote this and performed it with Garfunkel.
You should check it out.
The best part of this is you You are but a seed and this venture you are on is your soil and the more you grow pulling out all this knowledge of music from your soil when you bloom you will have experienced what some of us have in the last 60 years Great job it will be fun to watch you grow
Simon & Garfunkel was the warning, Disturbed's is the reality
Great cover powerful vocal lament; the original is more folksy, but the message still resonates.
As I'm sure others have said this is cover of a Simon And Garfunkel Song from the 1960's. There's a lot of ways to interpret it but for me it's always been about the dangers of blind conformity and self censorship. When everyone bows and prays to their Neon Gods, no one speaks out.
So loved this rendition
Lyrically one of the greatest songs ever. Art Garfunkel's voice is very different from David Draiman's, but the message is still as powerful now as it was 60 years ago.
Definitely a great cover of a classic song.
Really enjoyed ur reaction.
Definitely need to check out The Vengeful One and The Light from Disturbed.
I once heard someone say that the Simon and Garfunkel version was the warning to us all and Disturbed's version is David Draiman's lamenting that we didn't listen.
This was first done by Simon and Garfunkel, theirs was good but even they believed this was better. See the video
we must not be silent about a multitude of problems, racism masogynism, poverty, class differences, Politicians and world leaders listen but do not hear for example. Silence is the killer, we need to speak up en masse.
If you would like to hear a current comparison, check out Pentatonix and their rendition of Sound of Silence. It is phenomenal!
Girl! I watch a LOT of your reactions and a LOT of reactions to this song. Somehow YOUR reactions slipped through my net. First off, "Road to 15k". You crushed that goal in a few short months. Next, I absolutely LOVE seeing people's reactions entering the fourth verse when David starts to bring his grit and growl into it. He's spent the entire song building and building then unleashes his full power. The mix of sorrow one feels while listening to the words and the unease they feel with the delivery is truly a wonder. Thanks for this and keep doing what you do, 'cause you're doing it right!
I know I'm a little late, but I just wanted to say, that I agree with Your assessment. :)
