AM I the only one who is ADDICTED to watching REACTIONS of Disturbed's cover of SoS?? Lol
No, you're not. I'm with you on that. I never tire of hearing this version, I remember the original being a teenager at the time but this one is stunning.
No 😂😂😂 think ive watched em all well thght i had but new ones keep popping up 😅😅😅
I'm there with ya !
still doing it lolll
You are NOT!!! I have watched more than 25!!
Paul Simon liked this cover so much he put it on his own channel.
He stated he wished they had done the original with this intensity.
That's a heck of a compliment from the original writer and singer.
Really? Wowzer!
Art Garfunkel actually wrote and sang it 😉
@@AngelaEatsMusic no shit Sherlock
@@mikerichmond9086 needless sarcasm. Azzho.
@@mikerichmond9086 I LOVE IT!
The anger in the line " and the people bowed and prayed ro the neon gods they made"..... DAMN!
Go listen to the music video version where he's not sick and actually in studio. It's even better.
This wasn’t a cover song. It was the fulfillment of the song.
Simon and Gatkrfunkel's was a warning. Disturbed was the judgement
@@davidnordmeyer513Beautifully said.
This is one of the best cover songs ever. I get chills. And he was sick.
I just learnt he was sick.Wow!
There was one point where Conan's people used autotune. David was pissed about that. That man doesn't need ANY autotune. He was seated because he wasn't feeling well. Flu I think 🤔
@@lnetscoutnshelby5691 He was literally so sick he thought he would fall over or pass out, David never sits when singing.
Agreed! Chills!
Agreed! Chills!
The way he delivers the line "and the people bowed and prayed...to the neon god they made" always makes tears spring to my eyes. The raw power there is just so beautiful and moving
I'll be honest. I always think of Trump.
I might be projecting some, but the anger, the frustration, and the desperation all seems to really come to a head at that part to me.
This song to me is about how we're talking _at_ each other, not _with_ each other. We're ignoring the people at the other end, and just propping up what we're talking through. We're always talking about and to the constructs that seperate us, like being a Democrat or Republican or Asian or Black or German or Mexican etc. instead of talking about and to people. Because under all the BS that's what we all are, people. I very much have been feeling those feelings for most of my life, so again this might just be me projecting that ball of emotion on that line.
@@guardian33 well, that line in particular does pretty aptly describe him and his followers despite the fact that it was originally written long before he was ever in politics.
I love the part where he sings "and in the naked light I saw..." he sings that part so beautifully. He has such an amazing voice
@@guardian33hes literally neon
In my humble opinion... THE best cover of any song ever done.... ever.
Let's not forget that the original artists came out publicly and declared this as belonging forever more to Disturbed. 😁I still get chills every time I hear it.
No he didn't, here is Simons Mail: "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks." What your'e thinking of is probably what Trent Reznor said about the Hurt Cover from Johnny Cash.
@@AidanPryde09 It was in a reaction video I saw on here. I don't watch Conan anymore. With the exception of the performance disturbed did on his show.
@@thomasaitken7495 It is apparently a myth.
I do too. And I always get teary eyed halfway through….always.
Never ever have they said that, Dear Lord no.
Has anyone ever noticed the total silence of the audience? They were stunned into silence until several seconds after the song ended. As amazing as the performance is, imagine being there for it...
That's what REAL talent does. You get lost in it. It engulfs you and taps into your soul. It takes you on a journey. When you ride a rollercoaster you don't immediately jump up when it's over do you? You take a few seconds to gather yourself because you just had an amazing experience. That's what the audience experienced.
@@rodmoore1577 If he's THAT talented, how come he uses autotune here?
@@OzStick he didn't. The production team for Conan put it on the vocal against his wishes.
@@IcePrincessWHN So he didn't use Autotune, however Autotune WAS used? Splitting hairs just a tad, aren't we??
@@OzStick not really. Do you honestly not see a difference between choosing to change your vocals and having someone do it after you told them not to?
I hope ppl can truly understand the meaning behind these words. I prayed for mankind in the 70's when this came to my ears. Now I pray even harder with tears streaking my face
It’s rare that I like the cover, much more than the original. But this dudes voice, no words.
I played this video for my dad, who was a BIG S&G fan and I grew up on them thanks to him. I loved watching my dad’s reaction to the video after which he said, “I bet that’s the way S&G wanted that song to be heard.” My dad is gone now, but it’s a great musical memory I have.
He was quite sick while doing this song. He said his throat was sore and had a bad cold. Kudos for this performance.
Too bad the techies put pitch correction on his mic. Nearly ruins the otherwise powerful performance.
@@samhilton4173 even the vibrato sounds electronic
So that’s why I have a hard tome hearing him😅😭
Time
Actually I hear it better hear lmao wut
I grew up with the original and think its one of the best songs ever written. Lyrics and all. However Disturbs version is amazing and I love it. He makes it there song in a way for the times of today. This song has been covered sooo many times over the years.
So agree
@kirk hall
Absolutely. This song imo puts Paul Simon over Bob Dylan as a lyricist. By FAR.
I've heard about 20 versions of this song. Disturbed has by far done the song justice. Try as you might the original version can never be beat.
The remake is good with his intense deep voice, but what made this song so special from the beginning was Simon and Garfunkels harmony. So many tried to duplicate it and couldn't quite make it. A solo could never exceed that quality and mastery.
Simon and Garfunkel were even blown away by Disturbed's rendition of this song.
THEE BEST Cover of this song. To me, no other cover will EVER compare like this one. And DISTURBED, Fantastic. (IMO)
David Draiman was extremely sick during this performance and he still killed it!
The singer was trained as a cantor, so he was able to give the range needed. I love this version and it's become one of my most favourite songs.
I heard him say, in an interview, that when he decided to cover this song, he wanted to do it in a different way. He took lessons to sing vibrato, and that it's the hardest technique to do well. I think he nailed it, because of his early training.
He most definitely did it a different way and then some.
The real beauty is in how he builds it....
When I compare the Simon & Garfunkel's version to this, I feel like S&G version is telling you what will happen if we don't listen & Disturbed's version is telling you what DID happen, because we didn't listen. Now it's time to start over. Now listen this time. I loved when the timpani came in. I find myself holding my breath.
Best cover ever. Paul Simon agreed and added it to his playlist.
Damn I love that observation! Thank you Jan ✌
@@wolfhart309 Thank you, Wolfhart for the compliment!
Exactly what I was about to comment!!
Love your analysis.... That is how it came across to me too!
I'm a 56-year-old man and I know Simon and Garfunkel and their songs! Well, wait, I don't know Simon and Garfunkel themselves! To me this cover of a song is the best cover I've ever heard!! And I've heard thousands of covers! Every time I hear this song, just listening to the energy and the heart that he puts into the song brings tears to my eyes!! I've always loved this song and I truly love this cover!! Great job Disturbed!! Thanks
👍🏼❤️
I get chills every time. Tears rolling without me knowing. I played this for my husband before he passed. He had tears rolling. Beautiful, powerful and perfect.
This man’s recording of this is much stronger!!! DEEPER AND DARKER!! Mind blowing
My mouth dropped when I heard him singing this. Loved it when Simon and Garfunkel. However, Disturbed took it to a whole new level. His talent highlighted the song even more. Then sealed it with a kiss. It's hard to take an original and make it your own. I'm truly addicted to what he had done. BRAVO
If you haven’t done Disturbed’s video for this song - you SIMPLY MUST!!!! They tell the story with images so well. The video is Poetic!
The original version of this song by Simon and Garfunkel was acoustic. It didn’t do well in the charts, so their producer convinced Paul Simon to speed up the tempo and add an electric guitar. The rest is history.
What I had actually read was that Simon and Garfunkel had nothing to do with the re-made version of the song. Paul Simon was in England by himself after their first album, Wednesday Morning, 3AM didn’t do well. The record company hired musicians to put bass, drums and electric guitar on the acoustic track from the original acoustic version of the song and it was this version that became a hit. Neither Simon or Garfunkel were aware of it until it was released.
@@yensilluap You could be right!
I am guessing that was Clive Davis, or he was their A &R guy 😊
Ohhh they did that to David Foster on Whitney's I Will Always Love You. He wanted to go in and add things and Clive said no let it go the way it is...
I will never get sick of hearing this song from him. He sings it seriously.
How you make an all time classic even better is remarkable. Disturbed rendition of the original is so powerful it commands its own respect. The singers voice is extremely powerful.
Absolutely
Only a voice that demands respect could do this song justice. He showed Simon how it was *meant* to be sung.
The original songwriter/artist Simon, gave the highest praise. He said this song is now as much David's as it is his. Simon meant it as a warning. David's version is now what happened when no one heeded the warning.
In today's world, with our tweets and selfish for likes....we don't even speak. People. Have somehow forgotten the beauty of true communication.
That is likely why I burst into tears when I hear it.
Aye, i always thought it was hinting at the invention of TV: References to 'the flash of a neon light' and also 'the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made' certainly hints at our devotion and addiction to electronic devices. Although the original would have been referring to only tv's, but now its PC's, gaming platforms, Phones, ipads etc. As a result, everyone has lost the art of conversation.
The original song is about the dying of music, and the creation of electric sound, which has flooded the music industry for decades. But the words are so powerful, you can attach what ever meaning you feel is relevant and it will fit. I agree it does resonate with society's move to a technological independent culture over the past habitus of community shared ownership.
He was sick with the flu that night but the show must go on and then ...incredible!
Wow! He had flu??
He should have cancelled the performance it was embarrassing.
@@bgallagher8129 You joking ...right?
@@terryconnelly484 no kidding? Wow.
@@HarriBestReactions He was really sick, fever, weak, that's why he sat on this high chair throughout the whole performance - he wasn't in his power at all, but under these circumstances it was an incredible performance! And their version is great, the best cover of the song, and I say this growing up with S&G and LOVE them and their Sound of silence... 😉😘
Simon felt that this was how the song was meant to be sung.
Watching the guy w/glasses reaction 🤓
WOW! What a Song❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
im 60 and this version of this song when i 1st heard it shook me more then any other song i ever heard and still has that same effect on me everytime i hear it
Frank, I absolutely agree with you. I really liked the original by S&G, but Davids version will forever give me chills. 🤗
I too am 60, so I grew up hearing and loving the S&G version (I even sang it in choir), but I was shaking, blubbering, and covered in goosebumps when I heard this version. I had to learn more about this man with an unbelievable voice. As someone had posted in the comments of another reaction video to this song - David was asked before being born into this world, "Do you want to be able to sing like a devil, or like an angel?" His answer: "Yes."
David was so sick when he did this live. That's why he is sitting in the stool. The guy playing the piano is actually his lead guitarist. Still sounded amazing.
This is a fantastic performance. Such a powerful voice. And the musical arrangement, with the orchestra and those drums, amazing.
One night im singing along with this...my daughter came from her room saying you are a bit loud,i can hear you from the other end of house..shhhh..she is 24 and about time she moved out...lol.my house my singing.
My most favorite version of this song! So powerful, so beautiful! Love this! Chills everytime I here it! ❤
Easily one of the best covers in music history.
This version is so intense it gives me chills inside, almost bringing tears, it's like a call.
The original was a call. This is in lament of not heeding that call.
@@justcausee 👍🏻✌🏻🎵🎼🎶 .... yep!
Yes, me too. If I close my eyes and just listen, it's like I lose the ability to breathe, tears rise...
😱Wow!! His voice is like the finest-tuned instrument. Powerful, intense, emotional and perfect tone in any range. I like this cover even better then the original S&G version.
He was sick during this performance. The music video version is even better.
This cover by Disturbed still sends a chill down my spine, he has such an amazing powerful voice
This song idc how many times I hear it I get goosebumps and tears. I have seen them live Davids voice is just beautiful and so damn powerful. I wish he would play the phantom in phantom of the opera on Broadway.
The original was perfect in it's time, this was perfect in this time. I like them both, and it's rare I like covers.
I grew up with this song Simon and Garfunkel. This version brought me to tears.
I think I'm addicted to this version so powerful it gives me goosebumps.
Such a powerful performance!! Gives me chills every time i hear this version. Absolutely love it!
Listening to this live version of this song,
by Disturbed, always brings a tear to my eye.
The two bloke's have such listenable voices
I was 16 years old when Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel released this song. It will always be the original and belongs to the ages. It is said that the music that we hear in the formative years of our life remains a special emphasis throughout our lives.
One of my favorite songs, powerful. However Disturbeds version takes it to another level, powerful!!!
I LOVE this song. He became able to reach that deep growl due to a throat surgery. He has an amazing voice and range. I'm a Disturbed fan for life❤ This song was very healing and comforting to me after the suicide of my ex husband🌹
unbelievable performance........... What a song..... Amazingly done. Hairs stood right up...
😯 WOW !!! Never heard this guy before. What a voice!!! What RANGE !!! You are Awesome 👏 🫡😎🥰
I loved both of your reactions. I am a big fan of Disturbed, and most people would not think he had such a smooth and almost velvet like voice. I do pay homage to Simon and Garfunkel, this song has so much relevance today, as when it was first written! When I see people that have a wealth of musical knowledge, such as yourselves, I learn why it is I love this particular re-make! Thank you!🧡
I never cared for the original when I was a teenager, but when I heard this version and as a 71 yr old I just loved it and I played it over and over again and put it in my bank. 🇺🇸
It has been said elsewhere that the original by Simon and Garfunkel was the warning, where Disturbed's is the rage because that warning was not heeded.
The version where Myles Kennedy joins him for harmonies is even better.
Paul Simon said that his version was a whispered warning and this is the angry response that the warning was ignored. Love it!
I've seen this performed live, imagine 20k + ppl watching this in awe and silence (no pun intended) it was amazing!!!!
Another one that will rock your socks off is "Hold Onto The Memories" Beautiful and soul inspiring.
guys you need to watch the video it will bring you to tears
This version is absolutely spine chilling and beautiful. He is SO talented. Thanks for your review and discussion. ❤️
Well said 🤩
David has an awesome voice! You were right...not many people realized what a magnificent voice he has because he's usually using grit/distortion...so you can't really hear what he's capable of doing. Here you can hear it! Great reaction guys!
I get chills every time I hear this!
Greatest song ever written I believe...
The lead singer is David Draiman, he was originally trained as a cantor when he was younger. The vocal distortion he sings with is his trademark, easily recognizable from any song they sing. When this came out, Paul Simon heard it, and said that the song belongs to Disturbed now, and posted it onto his Twitter page. It's the only time he's ever done that for any artist. He said his version was a warning, and sad, and this one is angry that everyone ignored his warning.
This song by Disturbed is HAUNTING!!!! It is in my favorites on UA-cam and I listen to it at least once a week. One of the best covers I have ever heard in a live setting.
What a masterpiece. Always beautiful to listen to
Hold on to the memories is another beautiful softer song by Disturbed. David has a voice that has been compared to the angels. Great reaction!
I still get goosebumps every time I hear this particular version.
I love both versions. But, Disturbs conveys the true message in the song.
He has a beautiful voice . Just WOW
Absolutely magnificent ❤🎉
"And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon gods they made" - makes the hairs on my arms stand up every time. It just seems so poignant.
I love the official video of this, it has a much grittier feel - especially on the line above.
Every time I hear this song I get shivers and goosebumps. A friend of mine wants told me that the band disturbed would be too heavy for me… And that may be true, but this song is one of the greatest covers ever made!
Totally agree. Awesome version of a great song.
Best cover of a song, ever. It’s perfect.
Heard this performed live in Houston a few years back, was incredible. Amazing strong voice shook the stadium. Gave me chills.
I love this song. He was seriously ill when he sang this live version, that's why he was sitting down. The Original version is a plea for change, this version is a call to revolution if change doesn't come.
A cover that is a whole musical...................
Bravo.
I was young when S&G did the original. Disturbed has blown it away. 🎶❤️
MR.Harri!! I really enjoyed this one! Especially since you brought your Pal in to Class-Up the joint! LOL! I liked what both of you had to say! Great Reaction!! CHEERS!!
Class up the joint 😂🤣😂
@@HarriBestReactions Heck Yeah!!!👍👍
Great cover reaction Harri and friend!!!! You made my Sunday!!!!!! Thanks for that hombre!!!!! To me Simon and Garfunkel were telling us back in the 60’s when I first heard the song to get our shit together or the future won’t be pretty and David’s version is saying oh well the shit has now hit the fan!!!!! Just saying. So says Austin Tx!!!! 😍😍😍🍸😎
Think of where we were in the 60's and the warning Simon & Garfunkle gave us through Paul's lyrics; think of where we are today, through the lens of this masterful arrangement David Draiman and Disturbed gave us - and of the anger we should feel that we've failed to listen to Paul's warning. Then think of where we're headed...
I have watch this song by Disturbed , at least 100 maybe 150 times.
Really like you including your friend and while watching you kept checking his reaction. Shows solid friendship. His reaction are also cool, very subtle but clear. Great combined discussion with both points coming. Thanks for this twist to your format. Worked well.
This is a nice version but I really love it by Simon and Garfunkel that’s one of my favourites, as is Homeward Bound. Nice to meet your friend Tevian, . ☮️

@@HarriBestReactions Sorry, my hearing sucks. ☮️🇬🇧
I loved the steady smile on your face..... pure joy.... like mine.... no matter how many times I see and hear it.... thank you...

Nice review. They do take it more melancholy and darker. What a voice with so much character while keeping the essence of the song, in fact bringing even more gravitas. A lot of respect shown.
He's got a beautiful voice. Listen to Down with the Sickness then listen to sound of silence you'll appreciate his voice even more. Chester Bennington had a beautiful voice. He could scream in some songs but then sing so beautifully
He sang this with pneumonia that evening.... Unbelievable... Nooooobody has a voice like David Draiman.
I prefer the video version, but mad mad respect every single time they perform this song... It is destined to be a timeless, priceless classic.
Disturbed has been a staple in my life for almost as long as I can remember. This cover came as no surprise to me when I first heard it. Awed, but not surprised.
I love this song in general. This is 1 of my 2 favorite versions; the 1 by Pentatonix is the other. If anyone has not heard them perform it is a definite must.
Yes, David was definitely sick that night. He has a beautiful voice even sick.
That version is so powerful. I can listen to it ten times a day. Stumbled on to you, I think because I’m always playing that song on UA-cam. I’m gonna hit the bell. 😉
One of my favorite of all times.
Disturbed has taken the timeless and introduced ALL in a welcome manner , to have COMMAND of the Delivery! Born in sixty and have 'grown' with the music... absolutely Amazing message from ALL involved in every phase along the years of this artistic masterpiece.... some messages can only BE EXPERIENCED❣️🎶 much gratitude
You really should listen to him sing it with Myles Kennedy. It is amazing!
I agree. The magic of the original song and the reason it is a classic is the interplay of the voices. This is an incredible arrangement sung brilliantly. The version with Miles Kennedy conveys that aspect in addition to all of the greatness of this performance.
This is the isolated Paul Simon part. Garfunkel part is just as different than the final result.

Was just gonna say the same thing, the live version with Miles is amazing.
Thank you for choosing this song! You two are like a new "Lighteous Brothers"! 💕 (this came to my mind because I just watch your commenting of Unchained Melody...) 😊
